CNN's Sour Grapes! Whining About Corporations Funding the Trump Inaugural

CNN keeps stamping on their sour grapes over the Trump victory. In a CNN This Morning segment on corporate donations to the Trump inauguration, substitute host Danny Freeman touted how The Wall Street Journal  "identified at least 11 companies and trade associations who are backing the inauguration, despite once saying they would not donate to him after the January 6th attack on the Capitol." Freeman turned for former Democrat congressman Max Rose, who was outraged. "God bless 'em: they're full of it, right? I mean, two years ago, you care about one thing, and now you obviously don't. It's clear that what they're in it for is their shareholder interest." Uh, yeah—they better be!  As the great free-market economist Milton Friedman put it in his Doctrine: "An entity’s greatest responsibility lies in the satisfaction of the shareholders. Therefore, the business should always endeavor to maximize its revenues to increase returns for the shareholders." Leftist CNN analyst and historian Leah Wright Rigueur agreed with Rose: "One of the lessons that a lot of these corporations have learned over the last four years is that it is about money. That there are no permanent friends, that there are no permanent affiliations or alliances." If any of these corporations hadn't long ago figured out that business is fundamentally "about money," it's surprising that they are still in business. As for the corporations not having "permanent affiliations or alliances," companies that don't adjust to new circumstances don't last long. During her short campaign, Kamala Harris raked in a record $1.5 billion though her campaign blew through all that and wound up in debt. The list of huge donors included all the usual suspects, including Bloomberg, Inc. and Alphabet [Google.] They all were presumably angling for favorable treatment in one form or another. We don't remember the liberal media kvetching about that. No, they touted it as Kamala-mentum!  Here's the transcript. CNN This Morning 12/26/24 6:13 am ET DONALD TRUMP: One of the big differences between the first term  -- in the first term, everybody was fighting me. In this term, everybody wants to be my friend.  DANNY FREEMAN: It's gonna be one of the bites we're gonna hear quite a bit. Apparently, everyone wants to be Donald Trump's friend in his second term, but they're bringing their checks to prove it now.  A flurry of Fortune 500 companies, crypto firms, and individual billionaires, all racing to help underwrite Trump's inauguration on January 20th, pledging seven-figure donations. In return, they'll get an intimate candlelit dinner with the President-elect, and the First Lady, Melania.  Now, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Trump's inaugural fund is on track to break records. And also, they identified at least 11 companies and trade associations who are backing the inauguration, despite once saying they would not donate to him after the January 6th attack on the Capitol.  . . .  When the Wall Street Journal asked the companies why they're donating now, despite some of them swearing it off after January 6th, one company representative responded with this: "People just really want to move forward and move on. The election results were very clear." Former Congressman, what's your reaction to that?  MAX ROSE: Look, God bless 'em: they're full of it, right? I mean, two years ago, you care about one thing, and now you obviously don't.  It's clear that what they're in it for is their shareholder interest. And maybe that had always been the case, but certainly that should be a message to Democrats, right? That none of these groups, corporate or otherwise, are in your camp permanently. Rather, the people that should be in your camp permanently and you in their camp are working people.  FREEMAN: Leah, what struck me interesting from this reporting is that it's not only different from four years ago, but also from President-elect Trump's first inauguration as well, right?  LEAH WRIGHT RIGUEUR: Absolutely. So I think part of what we saw during the first inauguration is that there was a real reluctance to associate with Donald Trump. There was really no interest from many corporate backers in taking him seriously. He was an unknown quantity for a large group of people, but also for many business people. It was important to be associated with his campaign.  I do think, and I would agree with Max on this here, I think one of the things, the lessons that a lot of these corporations have learned over the last four years is that it is about money. That there are no permanent friends, that there are no permanent affiliations or alliances.  And so when it became clear to them that Donald Trump was going to suffer very few, if any, repercussions for the behavior on January 6th, as well as other legal problems and allegations, it became very clear that this was going to be an opportunity for them to ply their case and make their trade with Donald Trump. We all know that he is transactional.  And so what we're seeing is an increase in that kind of transactional action. So we're seeing corporate giants like Amazon, like Facebook Meta, all these organizations, and they want something in return.  I would point, for example, to cryptocurrencies. Several cryptocurrency organizations and institutions have donated millions to Donald Trump because they want deregulation of the industry in a way that benefits them. And this is how they get it. So, this is, I think, a dawning of a new day. But it's one that is very much about corporate interest and corporate payouts.

Biden settles lawsuit to reopen near-vacant $85M ICE detention facility

The Biden administration settled a lawsuit to reopen an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in California that has remained nearly empty since 2020.There are currently three detainees in the 1,940-bed Adelanto ICE Processing Center, the New York Post reported Tuesday.'Biden Admin and DOJ are rolling the red carpet for Trump's deportation machine.'In May, the federal government agreed to continue funding the $85 million facility despite a judge's 2020 court order that prevented ICE from bringing in additional detainees due to a lawsuit regarding the spread of COVID-19. The judge's order compelled ICE to transfer detainees to other facilities, significantly reducing the number of individuals housed at the center. The facility was slated to close in December when ICE launched a 60-day order to evaluate the impact of the ongoing litigation, maintenance costs, and operational requirements, Fox News Digital reported. ICE subsequently announced a 120-day review, further delaying the facility's closure. An ICE spokesperson told the news outlet, "The new task order will extend beyond the current 60-day task order issued on Dec. 19 — expiring Feb. 19 — and provides additional time for potential relief from ongoing litigation that prevents full use of the facility."In January, RJ Hauman, president of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement, spoke out against a potential settlement. Hauman said, "What is there to settle, and why even discuss a settlement? This is an enforcement show as we enter a critical election year."The Biden administration's recent settlement indicates that the ICE facility will once again be fully operational ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's plan to launch mass deportations of illegal aliens.California-based immigration lawyer Nicolette Glazer called the agreement "horrible" news. Glazer wrote in a post on X, "Well F**k, what can I say, Biden Admin and DOJ [Department of Justice] are rolling the red carpet for Trump's deportation machine."Earlier this month, Democrats called for the facility's closure, claiming that its conditions put detainees' safety and well-being at risk. A 2018 Department of Homeland Security Inspector General report revealed "a number of serious issues" at the facility following an unannounced inspection. The report claimed the IG's office found "nooses made from braided bed sheets" in several cells, "inappropriate segregation," and "failure to provide timely and adequate medical care."Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) stated, "I've had detainees come out and they are sobbing because of the conditions there.""They should not be imprisoning people," Chu declared. "It's just horrendous."Chu called the facility "a huge waste of money."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

What was to be a fun bachelor party in Florida ends with best man dead, 3 friends hospitalized, another sentenced to prison

A group of friends traveled to Florida for what was supposed to be a fun bachelor party, but things took a tragic turn when three participants were hospitalized and the best man died. Now one of the friends has been sentenced to eight years in prison.'Mr. Nabors’ actions took Tom’s life and, in doing so, tattooed an indelible sadness on the hearts of myself, my wife, our daughter, and the more than 500 people who attended Tom’s funeral.'As Blaze News previously reported, several University of Alabama fraternity brothers who graduated together traveled from Georgia, Alabama, and Connecticut to Santa Rosa Beach for the party in May 2022.During the celebration, cocaine reportedly was distributed to the partygoers, and one of the bachelor party attendees suffered a medical emergency. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found 26-year-old Thomas Gleason unconscious on the floor. While deputies were administering lifesaving measures to Gleason, three other men at the bachelor party "collapsed and became unresponsive."The Walton County Sheriff's Office said in a statement, "All the men were transported to Sacred Heart, but days later, Thomas Gleason, 26, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, took his last breath in front of his parents when he was taken off life support."Bob Gleason — the father of Thomas Gleason — told AL.com, "By the time we got to Charlotte [for a layover], the doctor was like, ‘Do you want us to keep him alive?’ That’s how it was."The distraught father said his son "was gone" within 10 minutes after being taken off life support. The three hospitalized friends spent several days in ICU before recovering. The groom-to-be reportedly was not one of the victims, and his wedding was called off in the wake of the tragedy. Gleason was set to be the best man. It isn't clear if the wedding was rescheduled.Authorities launched an investigation into the tragic death and determined that Gleason died from "a lethal dose of fentanyl."Bob Gleason noted, "When the toxicology came back, Tom wasn’t even drunk. He had his wits about him, and so did everybody else. But the fentanyl level was off the charts."Investigators determined that the fentanyl had been mixed with cocaine that Tom Gleason had ingested. Gleason's fraternity brother and fellow party attendee, John "J.D." Nabors, 26, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, allegedly brought the cocaine to the party and distributed it among his friends.Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson stated, "This case relied heavily on witness testimony proving Nabors provided the drugs during the party. That single decision altered the course of an immeasurable number of lives."On November 15, 2022, a grand jury indicted Nabors on felony charges of distributing a controlled substance causing death. He turned himself in to the Walton County Jail on Nov. 30, 2022. Nabors was released on $25,000 bond.On December 12, 2024, Judge Jeffrey Lewis sentenced Nabors to eight years in prison for the fatal fentanyl poisoning. His sentence will be followed by five years of probation.Sheriff Adkinson said, "Our hearts ache for the Gleason family and an entire community who is still in mourning. Let this be a lesson to all of us of the profound losses we face at the hands of drugs and addiction."Bob Gleason pointed out, "It wasn’t like these guys went down the street and found a dealer. They trust [Nabors] because he was their fraternity brother. They got it from a trusted friend, and this is what happened."Gleason added, "Mr. Nabors’ actions took Tom’s life and, in doing so, tattooed an indelible sadness on the hearts of myself, my wife, our daughter, and the more than 500 people who attended Tom’s funeral."Like Blaze News? 'Why don't you run?' Trump asks Wayne Gretzky to run for 'governor' of Canada, the '51st state'

President-elect Donald Trump wants Wayne Gretzky to be in charge of Canada. After Trump's recent election victory, many of his lesser-known endorsements were revealed as celebrities flooded Mar-a-Lago in Florida. This included "the Great One," who attended a post-election party at the resort.Since then, Trump has continuously stated he would like Canada to become the 51st state. On Christmas day, the Republican said he had recently spoken to Gretzky, and asked him if he would run for leadership in Canada."I said, 'Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada - You would win easily, you wouldn't even have to campaign,'" Trump wrote on Truth Social.Gretzky, however, "had no interest," Trump revealed. "I think the people of Canada should start a DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement. It would be so much fun to watch!" — (@) 'Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State.'Trump's Canadian-state narrative stemmed from demands that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gain control of the U.S.-Canada border in order to stop the flow of illegal immigration and drugs, under the threat of tariffs. On December 10, Trump said he had dinner with "Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada" to speak in depth about trade. Two days later, Trump again referred to Trudeau as "governor" after Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned.Trump's push for annexing Canada continued on December 18, when he asked why the United States has been subsidizing the Great White North for more than $100 million per year."Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State," Trump claimed. "They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!" — (@) After his mention of Gretzky on Christmas, Trump again told "Governor Justin Trudeau" that taxes are "far too high" in Canada.Trump added, "but if Canada was to become our 51st State, their Taxes would be cut by more than 60%, their businesses would immediately double in size, and they would be militarily protected like no other Country anywhere in the World." — (@) Gretzky doesn't say much on his social media, but his actions spoke louder than words when he was spotted wearing a white "Make America Great Again" hat with gold letters at Trump's victory party.Gretzky's daughter, Paulina, also posted a family photo from the Trump resort. The photo included her parents, brother Trevor, and her husband, professional golfer Dustin Johnson. Photo by Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire/Corbis/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesLike Blaze News?
