Megan Moroney Releases Surprise Song “Sorry… I Meant Tonight,” Just A Week After Dropping Her New Album

Giving the fans what they want… even more new music. Exactly a week ago today, Megan Moroney released her third studio album Cloud 9, and of course, fans have been buzzing about “Who Hurt You?” and I’ve had “I Only Miss You,” her duet with Ed Sheeran, on repeat, along with her other duet with Kacey Musgraves, “Bells & Whistles.” She’s aiming for a #1 debut on the Billboard 200 all-genre album chart, which would mark a first for the Georgia native. And today, she’s already adding another song to the Cloud 9 tracklist, putting out a tune called “Sorry… I Meant Tonight,” which was written by Megan along with Luke Laird and Jessie Jo Dillon. It’s pretty pop-heavy in terms of the production and simple in lyrical content, as it finds her daydreaming about a guy she’s just getting to know who she seems to have a lot in common with. She starts falling fast, asking him what he’s “doing for the rest of your life” before quickly correcting herself to asking what he’s doing tonight: “No way you like all the same records Like, oh, no way, feels like I’ve known you forever I know you’ve got your pick of gorgeous girls at your feet Don’t you think you’d look better with me? And tell me, what are you thinking? Tell me it’s me on your mind I can’t go one more minute without you, your heart being mine So you pick a place and I’ll pick a time Under the stars or the city lights (City lights) And what are you doing for the rest of your life? Oh, sorry, I meant tonight” It’s a cute song, though it’s certainly not one of my top favorites from the album, but I’m sure her fans will be thrilled to already be getting new music after she just put out the album last week. Check it out: “Sorry… I Meant Tonight” CLOUD 9 Tour Dates: MAY 29 | Columbus, OH – Schottenstein Center 30 | Indianapolis, IN – Gainbridge Fieldhouse JUNE 2 | Chicago, IL – United Center 5 | Baltimore, MD – CFG Bank Arena 6 | Greensboro, NC – First Horizon Coliseum 8 | Atlanta, GA – State Farm Arena 12 | Louisville, KY – KFC Yum! The Top 10 Country Artists With The Most Spotify Monthly Listeners

The streaming stats speak for themselves. Success in music looks a bit different nowadays. Used to, it was about who could move the most records, and which artists had the most albums go gold or platinum. Now? It’s all about the streaming numbers, and who can achieve (and maintain) the most monthly listeners. That’s at least how it’s viewed through the business lens… most country fans don’t care about all of the streaming statistics, and just want to listen to music that connects with them. The good news? When you look at the top 10 artists with the most monthly Spotify listeners… there’s not all that much pop country. Whether you want to call it surprising or relieving, there’s a whole lot of people out there listening to good, quality country music nowadays. So let’s see how that listenership stacks up, shall we? Surprisingly not in the Top 10: Lainey Wilson (9.8 million listeners), George Strait (8.5 million listeners), Eric Church (10 million listeners), Willie Nelson (6.7 million listeners) Honorable mentions: Johnny Cash (12.1 million listeners), Bailey Zimmerman (12.1 million listeners), Thomas Rhett (12.1 million listeners), Maren Morris (11.4 million listeners), Brooks & Dunn (11.4 million listeners), Cody Johnson (11.1 million listeners) 10) Riley Green – 12.6 million listeners The country music star (and soon to be actor) undoubtedly benefited from a duet with another artist that’s further down this list, but he’s certainly carved out a lane of his own. Green is still ascending as a country music artist, and his songs like “Jesus Saves” and “Worst Way” have helped him achieve over 12 million monthly listeners. 9) Dolly Parton – 15.6 million listeners The Queen of Country Music has still got it. The fact that Dolly still boasts over 20 million monthly listeners is a testament to her staying power. She hasn’t released a country record since 2022 (I don’t count her 2024 Rockstar album as country), and yet here she is in the top five of Spotify’s most listened to country music artists. 8) Shania Twain – 15.7 million listeners The 90s country star has enough hits to keep her in the top country music listenership. Shania Twain was one of the biggest stars of the 1990s, and she continued her success into the 2000s and beyond. Songs like “Any Man of Mine” and “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” will likely keep her firmly planted on this top 10 list for quite some time. 7) Kacey Musgraves – 15.8 million listeners Kacey Musgraves has enjoyed quite a bit of crossover success, and it’s safe to say that plenty of pop music fans fall into her 15.8 million listener audience. However, one of her most recent releases, “Lost Highway,” was a clear move back towards her country roots. Perhaps more country music is on the way in the near future, 6) Ella Langley – 19.9 million listeners Ella Langley already cracking the top 10? I’d say this is a surprise, but the rising country music star has proven to be a hitmaker in her young career. She first got country music fans hooked with her ear-worm “you look like you love me,” and since then, she’s backed it up with songs like “Choosin’ Texas” and “Be Her.” Of all the modern female artists, she finds herself highest up on this list. 5) Jelly Roll – 21.8 million listeners The rapper-turned-country-artist broke through into the country music scene and never looked back. Jelly Roll’s music connects with people, and the messages of his songs resonate. 2023’s Whitsitt Chapel and 2024’s Beautifully Broken brought him into the mainstream, and thus, over 20 million listeners a month. 4) Chris Stapleton – 25.1 million listeners The “White Horse” singer remains one of the most popular country music artists of the genre. Show me someone who says they aren’t a fan of Chris Stapleton and I’ll show you a liar. His version of country music connects with the most traditional country fans while also reaching out to fans outside the genre. Listen to just a couple of seconds of his iconic voice and it’s easy to see why he’s got just shy of 25 million monthly listeners. 3) Luke Combs – 25.3 million listeners Who doesn’t love Luke Combs? The “Beautiful Crazy” singer could be creeping higher and higher on this list after he releases his next album, The Way I Am, on March 30. Considering his latest release prior to that is his 2024 concept album, Fathers & Sons, was his least commercially successfully album… 25.2 million listeners isn’t bad at all. 2) Zach Bryan – 26.2 million listeners Zach Bryan has always done things his own way, and that’s worked out incredibly well for the “Pink Skies” singer. He’s not considered a mainstream country music artist, yet here he is almost at the top of the Spotify monthly listenership list. Like the next artist on this list, Bryan’s numbers benefit from putting out arguably more music than anyone else. 1) Morgan Wallen – 32.5 million listeners No surprise here, eh? Morgan Wallen has had a tight grip on the country music charts for close to a decade now. The superstar has a finger on the pulse of his fanbase, and continually delivers songs and albums (that usually stretch 30+ tracks) that keeps him atop the list of most streamed country artists.
