The announcement has excited Marvel fans‚ but it also appears to have thrown a wrench into other projects Pascal had in the works. One of those is Weapons‚ Zach Cregger’s next movie after the runaway success of his horror film‚ Barbarian. Production on Weapons‚ which The Hollywood Reporter describes as an “interrelated‚ multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia‚” was delayed due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes. Because of this‚ the shoot now conflicts with Pascal’s work on Fantastic Four. Weapons‚ however‚ has appeared to find another great actor for the role. (A role‚ I should note‚ we have no details about. The only thing we know about this film is what I quoted above. Is the character Pascal initially signed up to play a hero? A serial killer? A man who owns a donut shop? The options are limitless.) According to THR‚ Josh Brolin is in negotiations to take over Pascal’s place on the call sheet. Brolin‚ of course‚ is no stranger to genre films: he played Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe‚ is returning for a second season of Prime Video’s Western sci-fi series‚ Outer Range‚ and is also in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies as Gurney Halleck (pictured above). This will‚ however‚ be Brolin’s first foray into horror—the one thing we do know about Weapons is that it is‚ indeed‚ a horror film. I‚ for one‚ am excited to see what he does with the part. California is once again leading the way‚ showing us the dark‚ dystopian post-America future that awaits us if the Left remains in power. The latest absurdity is that a noncitizen was appointed to office in San Francisco‚ the first time such a thing has happened in this country. According to The New York Post‚ Kelly Wong—reportedly an “immigrant rights” activist from Hong Kong—was “unanimously appointed by San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors to the city’s Elections Commission on Feb. 14.” Think about that for a moment. Somebody who isn’t a citizen and isn’t even legally allowed to vote—for now—is now supervising elections in an American city. This came to pass‚ according to The Post‚ because San Francisco voters passed a measure in 2020 eliminating the citizenship requirement to sit on San Francisco boards. Wong came to the United States in 2019. Nothing seems to bind her to this country in any way besides the fact that she now holds office.  That raises several questions. If China and the United States went to war‚ to which country would Wong be loyal? This development seems particularly concerning given that Chinese nationals are now the fastest-growing group attempting to illegally cross the U.S. southern border. Chinese nationals have been caught flying drones over the Pearl Harbor military base. Hundreds of other incidents involving Chinese nationals at U.S. military bases have occurred in recent years‚ too. It isn’t a stretch to think that the Chinese Communist Party is trying to harm or disrupt the country‚ or to steal information from the United States. Is Wong a literal Manchurian candidate? Is San Francisco simply becoming a province of China? When Chinese leader Xi Jinping visited San Francisco in November‚ the streets were lined with Chinese flags. Perhaps that was a glimpse into the future. The potential for spies to infiltrate the American system is only one part—perhaps the smaller part—of why allowing noncitizens to vote or to hold office in our country is so problematic. The modern Left is insistent on making the concept of citizenship irrelevant. But this isn’t about China or any other country. It’s about our country essentially abandoning its republican‚ constitutional system based on the consent of the governed and the rule of law. To take it a step further in the warped political and moral framework through which the modern Left views the world‚ citizenship may even be a negative. After all‚ a noncitizen is likely higher on the hierarchy of oppression and more worthy of rights and rewards granted by the state. It must tickle the hindbrain of a certain kind of Western leftist to think of the “oppressed” peoples of the world not only voting in American elections‚ but ruling over the United States to make it pay for its “sins.” There may have been a time when the Left feigned some opposition to illegal immigration‚ but that time has passed. The Biden administration‚ aided by an army of relentless and fantastically well-funded open-borders nongovernmental organizations‚ has done everything in its power to ensure that this country is beset with an endless flow of nearly unimpeded illegal immigrants.  According to a Fox News analysis of U.S. Customs and Border Protection data‚ 7.3 million illegal immigrants have come into the country since Joe Biden became president in January 2021. If you gathered all these people into one state‚ it would be the 15th-largest in the union in terms of population. While this is happening‚ blue cities and states are in the process of demolishing citizenship requirements for the basic functions and privileges of citizenship. Soon‚ the only thing left for the citizens of this country will be their obligation to pay taxes to support all the newcomers. Already‚ cities are reallocating their budgets to cover the enormous costs created by all the illegal immigrants. What we are left with‚ when all is said and done‚ is a country that’s hardly a country at all. I’ve had difficulty coming up with a name for this sort of political system‚ but it certainly isn’t a republic‚ nor is it really a “democracy.” In the old days‚ when federalism was stronger‚ people used to say the United States “are” this or that. More recently‚ as the country became more centralized and nationalized‚ people would say the United States “is” this or that. That distinction is now sliding away‚ too. If the Left’s anti-American project continues‚ people will have to say the United States “was” a country‚ but is now an economic zone—worthy of neither respect nor devotion—in which they happen to live. It will be a wealthy‚ but decaying remnant of what was once the mightiest and freest nation on earth‚ a carcass to be devoured by warring ethnic tribes and hostile foreign powers. California is giving us an early preview of this future. The rest of the country now must decide whether this is the kind of “progress” we want for ourselves and our posterity or whether we hold on to our once enormously successful system of ordered liberty. Leave it to New York schools to indoctrinate five-year-olds through coloring books.  Students at PS 321 in Brooklyn’s Park Slope were given coloring books recently titled “What We Believe: A Black Lives Matter Principles Activity Book” as part of a lesson for Black History Month. The book goes through 13 tenets of the BLM movement throughout the coloring and activity worksheet compilation. According to The Free Press‚ the book incorporates BLM’s “national demands” such as “mandate black history &; ethnic studies‚” “hire more black teachers‚” and even “fund counselors not cops.” Aside from teaching kids that they’re innately racist if they’re white‚ that black people need to be put on a pedestal simply because of the color of their skin (which is in and of itself racist)‚ and the idea of defunding the police‚ the coloring book also features sections about the sixth and seventh tenants of the BLM movement: “Queer Affirming” and “Trans Affirming.” Reminder: this book was passed out to elementary students as young as five years old. Related: WV House Passes Bill to Allow Prosecution of Librarians for Passing Out Inappropriate Books One section instructs kids to read the book “When Aidan Became a Brother” about a transgender child and even asks kids the question‚ “How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?” One parent said that the activity book wasn’t an optional or supplemental material for kids to explore at their leisure‚ but that it was assigned classwork‚ saying she only found out about it because her daughter’s school had a snow day and the girl had to learn from home. The parent‚ who fled from Communist China before moving to New York‚ was “shocked” at the use of the word “comrades” in the activity book.  “Using the word comrades comes from Communist times. They are using words that I don’t think are appropriate for elementary school‚” the mother said according to The Free Press. “This is classwork‚ not homework. If it weren’t for the snow‚ we wouldn’t have known.” Another parent who left the Soviet Union when she was a teenager was also stunned by the language in the book‚ saying it reminded her “of the songs we were made to sing as elementary school children. ‘Dismantling’ and ‘comrade’ and everything—it really reminds me of the word salad that was a part of those songs.” Then‚ as The Free Press noted‚ she commented that the BLM movement is just like communism: “same salad‚ different dressing.” Mic drop.  Other commenters noted that the coloring book “demonizes the nuclear family” and that the curriculum forms “it as some sort of white supremacy‚" noting it didn’t even teach about Black History Month‚ just about the social justice crap. “There is nothing in these principles that talks about honoring greats in black American history. There is nothing in here that is actual scholarship. It doesn’t speak to education. It speaks to ideology." I genuinely cannot believe that something like this is not only being passed out to kids but is part of their curriculum in elementary school. The media freakout over the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that embryos are people continued on Thursday’s Andrea Mitchell Reports‚ where the MSNBC eponymous host welcomed OBGYN Jennifer Lincoln to label the state “dangerous” and claim Evangelicals are trying to kick women out of the workplace. Mitchell led Lincoln with two reasons why a woman may seek IVF treatment. The first had to do with the ramifications of certain life choices‚ “a lot of women are staying in the workplace longer and not having children‚ delaying marriage until their late 30s or 40s. For them‚ this can be very‚ very important‚ because that's when infertility becomes more of an issue than women who were‚ you know‚ years ago‚ decades ago‚ marrying in their teens and 20s‚ early 20s.”     The second was more medical‚ “There are people who have genetic issues‚ like BRCA1‚ who‚ even as college students‚ prophylactically have double mastectomies‚ have hysterectomies. So‚ they store their eggs for later in life when they’re going to meet a partner. Talk to me about the medical aspects of that.” Lincoln began her response by going after Alabama‚ “Let's also set the stage here in Alabama. It is already one of the most dangerous places to give birth when you think about maternal mortality‚ infant mortality‚ preterm birth rates. It's also the state that has the highest rates of pregnancy criminalization. It also doesn’t require sex ed and as you already highlighted: total abortion ban.” While Mitchell may seek to portray Lincoln as some sort of apolitical medical expert‚ Lincoln not only has an ACLU author page‚ but on that page she lists her pronouns‚ is seen wearing a shirt that says “Viva La Vulva‚” and is listed as the executive director of Mayday Health. Her bio also says‚ “She is also the co-founder of Obstetricians for Reproductive Justice and the founder of Three for Freedom‚ a website that serves as a hub to help people take control of their reproductive futures in all 50 states.” On the pronoun nonsense‚ on her own website‚ Lincoln claims to be passionate about helping women‚ even if she can’t really define the term‚ “I’m an OBGYN whose passion is helping girls‚ women‚ and those assigned female at birth understand their bodies and feel empowered to advocate for themselves.” For Lincoln‚ Alabama is un-American‚ “So‚ already a very dangerous place to want to grow a family however Alabamans who want to and should be able to‚ they should not have to be told to move or go somewhere else to start a family. That's just not very American if you ask me.” Moving on to Evangelicals and presumably pro-lifers more broadly‚ she continued: Those who do not have the money to do so cannot do that and so they’re pursuing growing their family and may need to‚ as you said‚ use fertility treatments because they have delayed childbearing‚ which is part of this whole package of‚ you know‚ wanting to take these things away from‚ as you highlighted‚ the Evangelical side‚ it’s the idea of getting women back in the home‚ you know‚ this idea of a nuclear family‚ not having women in the workplace‚ this is part of dismantling that.   Throughout the media focus on this story there have been plenty of denunciations of the decision as well as proclamations about how the ruling's unpopularity puts Republicans in a rough spot politically‚ but precious little time has been spent on the logic of when life begins. The Cackling Coven of ABC’s The View will‚ without fail‚ adopt the most ridiculous political position and defend that hill in the most clownish way possible. Such was the case on Thursday’s episode when all but one member of the cast defended President Biden’s vicious dog Commander after it attacked 24 people. They even suggested the animal was justified and the victims should have known better. While introducing the segment‚ moderator Whoopi Goldberg struck a mocking dramatic tone as she reported: “A Secret Service report was just released about a Biden family member who's caused a lot of controversy at the White House. Their dog. His name is Commander‚ the report found that there were at least. 24 incidents of him biting folks.” “Well‚ it makes you wonder. What did he see that nobody else saw?” Goldberg defended the poorly trained beast. Goldberg and staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin (the descendant of slave owners) suggested that Commander was just being a good guard dog on the lookout for bad people‚ meanwhile‚ faux-conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin called him cute. A picture of the violent animal got awws from the rabidly liberal audience: GOLDBERG: Okay‚ look. Look at him. He is standing there – [Aws from the audience] HOSTIN: He's seeing something. ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Oh‚ he's cute! GOLDBERG: He's like‚ “I know you got something in your pocket. She was also the only cast member to question the attacks in any way‚ wondering why the dog hadn’t been euthanized yet. “How does it last 24 bites? Co-host Joy Behar suggested it was just a story Republicans were looking to exploit. “I have a question for the Republicans‚ how can we blame this on Hunter Biden? There's got to be a way‚” she quipped. Hostin pushed past Haines’s questions by arguing that it was no big deal because he was only attacking Secret Service agents. In the age of liberal media outlets warning of Russian collusion and misinformation‚ it became much more ridiculous for liberal media outlets to take millions of dollars from the Communists in China to publish their propaganda in the newspaper insert China Daily. But the liberal media is that shameless.  Drew Holden at the Washington Free Beacon -- a Bulldog Award winner from the MRC for his journalism -- has an enjoyable investigative piece titled Some of the Same News Outlets Warning About 'Disinformation' Are Taking Millions To Print Chinese Propaganda. Holden dug up China Daily's Foreign Agents Registration Act filings‚ which show that between October 2020 and October 2023‚ the CCP mouthpiece paid outlets such as Time‚ the Los Angeles Times‚ the Boston Globe‚ and the Chicago Tribune a total of $8.2 million. Time was the top media recipient of CCP largesse‚ at $3.55 million to put China Daily articles within Time magazine and on Time.com. Holden then made a list of these propaganda-publishing outlets warning about disinformation‚ including:  "Poll: California Voters Agree Political Disinformation Is a Big Problem. But How To Fix It?" Los Angeles Times‚ Aug. 16: Misinformation can spread rapidly on social media‚ leading to violence such as the attack on the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco). It can also have an impact on local elections.
