NewsBusters Podcast: 'Media Literacy' Means German-Inspired Censorship?

MRC's censorship investigators have published a two-part report on how the Department of Homeland Security used a "Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention" program to malign conservative information as "misinformation" and worse. This program had faded‚ but was rejuvenated under Miles Taylor‚ the anti-Trump advocate within DHS who wrote a wildly popular column (and then book) as "Anonymous‚" on how he and others bravely resisted the Trump menace from within. Then Taylor exposed himself and became an MSNBC regular and declared about the pandemic that "Republicans are quite literally murdering their base of support with their disinformation." He also claimed "radicalized elements of the Republican party now represent a bigger threat to our democracy than organizations like Al Qaeda or ISIS ever did." But complain about anonymous bureaucrats waging policy war within the "deep state‚" and you're defined as one of those conspiracy kooks who could turn violent. Dan Schneider‚ MRC's vice president for Free Speech America‚ explains just how deep this censorship effort goes. DHS grants for "media literacy" and "terrorism prevention" went toward denouncing conservatives‚ as in this example: “Donald Trump was also adopting the shock-jock style that Rush Limbaugh built into a cultural phenomenon‚ including his misogynistic and racist comments‚ conspiracy theories‚ and grievances.” But it also included teaching children how to be leftist political advocates‚ paying them taxpayer dollars to advocate for the Left.   There were State Department seminars focused on bringing longstanding German censorship strategies to American classrooms. Among the strategies educators were instructed to employ were using videogames to teach children to reject so-called “misinformation‚” instructing students to rely on hopelessly biased‚ anti-conservative fact checking sites like PolitiFact and Snopes and training educators how to use censorship tools like Ad Fontes and NewsGuard to block student access to websites with dissident views.  Documents gained through the Freedom of Information Act led to the University of Rhode Island's "Courageous RI" program‚ which exemplified this government-funded effort of liberal propaganda with their so-called "Courageous Conversations" (one-sided conversations). The MRC report  laments the Biden Administration is "supercharging a censorship industry devoted to an inherently anti-American philosophy hidden beneath the asinine moniker of 'media literacy.'”  Enjoy the podcast below‚ or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Comedian Jay Leno says he doesn't get into politics during performances

Comedian Jay Leno says he does not delve into politics during his performances."We live in an era now — I don't even do politics anymore in my act‚" the celebrity said‚ according to The Hill. "An audience is like an orchestra. You're up there and you’re getting the laughs‚" he noted. "Then you get into the political stuff.""It turns mean. They want to hear what the joke is — whether it's about my guy or against my guy‚" he explained‚ according to the outlet. "They're not thinking of the joke. They're thinking of the implications of the joke‚" he noted. "So to me‚ I just don't do it anymore. I just find it so annoying‚" he said. "I find [the] audience likes it better. Hopefully they come to a comedy show to get away from politics‚" he noted."I think we get enough of everybody’s opinions. It's nice to hear a singer just sing‚ or a comedian just be funny‚" he said‚ according to The Hill. "Obviously if you’re going to go see Stephen Colbert‚ a political comedian‚ that's what you want‚" he said. "But a lot of times‚ you just want to hear comedy‚" he noted‚ "and that's what I like."The comedian has previously noted that he dropped politics from his comedy."I've just taken politics out of the act‚ altogether. I just don't discuss anymore. It's like before the punch line‚ they're deciding‚ 'Is he pro-my guy‚ or against my guy?'" he said last year‚ according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.Leno‚ a car aficionado and collector‚ suffered burns in 2022. He broke numerous bones in an incident in early 2023 when he was knocked off of a motorcycle.Like Blaze News? 14 Democrats back resolution blasting 'the Biden administration's open-borders policies'

More than a dozen House Democrats joined Republicans in voting for a resolution that decries "the Biden administration's open-borders policies."The resolution "condemns the national security and public safety crisis that President Joe Biden‚ 'Border Czar' Vice President Kamala Harris‚ Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas‚ and other Biden administration officials have created along the southwest border."It passed in a 225-187 vote. While 211 Republicans voted for the resolution‚ 14 Democrats also backed it. Those Democrats include: Rep. Colin Allred of TexasRep. Yadira Caraveo of ColoradoRep. Angie Craig of MinnesotaRep. Henry Cuellar of TexasRep. Donald Davis of North CarolinaRep. Jared Golden of MaineRep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas Rep. Greg Landsman of OhioRep. Susie Lee of NevadaRep. Jared Moskowitz of FloridaRep. Wiley Nickel of North CarolinaRep. Mary Peltola of AlaskaRep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of WashingtonEric Sorensen of Illinois"Most of us understand that nations need borders‚ those borders should be secured‚ and we should enforce the immigration laws on the books. Most of us also understand that those seeking entry to our country deserve an orderly and predictable immigration process. Right now we have problems on both fronts‚" Golden said in a statement. "Illegal immigration threatens our national security and undermines American jobs. It's time for Congress and the Biden administration to come together and pass legislation to meaningfully address issues at the border. It should be a top priority in Washington‚ just like it is in most of America‚" Golden noted."It's unfortunate that the far-right and the far-left continue to make this a political issue rather than coming to the table to find consensus and common ground‚" Nickel said in a statement‚ according to The Hill. "I remain focused on working in a bipartisan way to secure the border and pass comprehensive immigration reform through Congress. I'll work with anyone to help save lives‚ improve security at the southern border‚ and make our communities safer."Like Blaze News? Newsom opposes prospect of blocking kids from playing tackle football

California Gov. Gavin Newsom‚ a Democrat‚ has declared his opposition to the prospect of blocking children from playing tackle football. A proposal put forward in the left-wing state would prohibit youth sports organizations from allowing kids under the age of 12 to take part in tackle football. But while the measure has not even been passed‚ the Golden State governor already rejected the idea."I will not sign legislation that bans youth tackle football. I am deeply concerned about the health and safety of our young athletes‚ but an outright ban is not the answer‚" Newsom said in a statement‚ according to The Hill. "My administration will work with the Legislature and the bill's author to strengthen safety in youth football — while ensuring parents have the freedom to decide which sports are most appropriate for their children.""As part of that process‚ we will consult with health and sports medicine experts‚ coaches‚ parents‚ and community members to ensure California maintains the highest standards in the country for youth football safety‚" he said in the statement‚ according to the outlet.Newsom‚ who survived a recall in 2021 and won re-election in 2022‚ faced off in a debate against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis last year. "I do look forward to the Governor's invitation to work on ways to better protect our youngest athletes and keep them safe from repetitive heads hits which can cause chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)‚" California state Assembly member Kevin McCarty (D) said in a statement‚ according to the Associated Press.
