Sen. Kennedy twists Biden's HHS secretary into pretzel with basic questions about abortion: 'Why are you scared to answer&;#63;'

Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra refused this week to support any restrictions on abortion.During a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on Tuesday‚ Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) posed a simple question to Becerra: Do you support the abortion of a healthy unborn baby up until the moment of birth&;#63;&;quot;Let's suppose it's the day before the due date‚ and the baby is fully formed‚ and the baby is healthy‚ and the mother is healthy. Do you support the right to abort the baby then&;#63;&;quot; Kennedy asked. But instead of answering the question‚ Becerra argued that no one is promoting late-term abortions. The Republican senator responded by quoting Becerra's own words from a press release when he was attorney general of California. &;quot; No government‚ state or federal‚ has the right to make decisions for a woman about her body or her health care‚&;quot; Becerra said at the time.&;quot;Your words‚ not mine‚&;quot; Kennedy said. &;quot;Good words‚&;quot; Becerra quipped.&;quot;I ask you again‚ up to the moment of birth‚ if the mother's healthy and the baby’s healthy‚ do you believe that there should be the right to abort that baby up to the moment of birth&;#63;&;quot; Kennedy followed up.&;quot;I have always supported Roe v. Wade‚ which does not do what you just said‚&;quot; Becerra responded. &;quot;I know of no one who is proposing or advocating what you've just announced‚ and I would hope what you would recognize is that that should not stop a woman from having the right to decide for herself with the consultation of her physician what she should do.&;quot; For the next several minutes‚ Kennedy and Becerra fought back and forth over his refusal to provide any direct answers.Kennedy refined his question‚ asking Becerra if he supports restrictions on abortions in the third-trimester‚ but he repeatedly dodged the question. Becerra would only say that he trusts women to make their own decisions while reiterating his support for Roe.&;quot; Why are you embarrassed to answer&;#63;&;quot; Kennedy finally asked. &;quot; Why are you scared to answer the question&;#63;&;quot;Becerra denied being embarrassed or scared‚ and yet he never answered Kennedy's question. It was clear the secretary did not want to say publicly that he supports any restrictions on abortion‚ even if that meant appearing to support late-term abortions.&;quot; You're dodgin' and weavin' and flip-floppin' like a mad catfish‚&;quot; Kennedy observed. For the record: Becerra never provided a substantive answer to Kennedy's questions‚ for which a simple &;quot;yes&;quot; or &;quot;no&;quot; would have sufficed.Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Blaze News investigates: California Democrats propose new law that will push rents higher during painful housing crisis

Democrats in the California legislature are pushing a law that critics say will hurt renters with higher rents by imposing restrictions on landlords. &;quot; This is really going to cause havoc to renters in California‚&;quot; said Daniel Yukelson of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles to Blaze News about Assembly Bill 1266. AB 1266 would restrict landlords from asking whether potential renters have pets and would ban them from requiring pet deposits in order to cover the potential cost of damage from pets. Coverage of the bill in the mainstream media has been mostly positive and ignored criticism from housing experts who say the bill would likely lead to higher rent prices and other damaging consequences. The bill was authored by California Assembly Member Matt Haney‚ a Democrat‚ who says that it is unfair to pet owners that landlords can restrict pets in their units or charge them a deposit to cover possible damages. “A two-tiered system that punishes people for having pets‚ or treats them differently‚ or has a greater burden on them just for that fact should not be allowed in the law‚” said Haney to KQED-TV. Opponents of the bill say that it will only worsen the housing crisis in California. Yukelson outlined numerous ways that the bill could be detrimental to the availability of housing in California by adding another restriction on housing providers. One of his major concerns is how the proposed legislation could make it harder for property owners to obtain affordable insurance. He pointed out that insurance companies are already raising their premiums or dropping coverage altogether in California. Forcing all landlords to accept pets would add another complication that will hurt tenants in the long run. &;quot; You can't even get renewals in a lot of cases‚ and this is just gonna add insult to injury because the insurance companies are just going to exclude all liability coverage for pets if we're forced to accept these animals‚&;quot; Yukelson explained. He went on to say that many rentals don't have lawns or other outside accommodations for pets‚ making them inappropriate for pet owners. With the new law‚ property owners would have to allow pets regardless of whether the property can accommodate them. 'Smell this photo' Erin Stumpf‚ a Sacramento-based realtor‚ criticized the proposal by posting a photograph of excessive damage done to a rental unit by pets that she says added up to thousands. &;quot;Don’t limit a housing provider’s ability to decline pets‚&;quot; Stumpf posted to X‚ formerly known as Twitter. — (@) &;quot;A pet can do TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS damage‚&;quot; she added. &;quot; If you could smell this photo maybe you’d get it.&;quot; Stumpf elaborated her point in a statement to Blaze News. She said the additional restrictions would just add more pressure to increase rental requirements. &;quot; As a rental property owner myself‚ I will probably be inclined to impose much more stringent minimum credit score and income qualifications on potential renters if I must accept pets‚&;quot; she wrote. &;quot;Pets can be very destructive between digging‚ chewing‚ and urinating‚ etc.‚ so as a rental housing provider‚ if I am forced to rent to a tenant with a pet‚ I will want to ensure that I only rent to absolutely the most responsible tenants who have sufficient income and assets‚ where I can hope to recover the cost of pet damage upon move-out.&;quot; Yukelson added that the bill could force people with allergic reactions to pets to be forced to live in units next to pet owners. Other organizations voiced similar concerns‚ including the California Apartment Association and the Southern California Rental Housing Association‚ among many more. 'It's simple economics' Haney has claimed the pet law is aimed at easing the housing crisis. “We’re not going to solve our housing crisis if we continue to allow for no protections for pet owners who represent the majority of our tenants‚” Haney has said. “This is simply about access to housing.” Yukelson explains why the new proposal on top of decades of over-regulation will make the housing crisis far worse. &;quot; It's just another straw that breaks the camel's back. These days people are getting out of the business. They can't afford to be in the business‚ they can't stomach it any more‚ there's so many layers of regulation‚&;quot; he continued. &;quot; And then the legislators sit back and they wonder‚ 'Why do we have a housing shortage&;#63; Why do we have the worst homelessness situation in the country&;#63; Why do we have skyrocketing rents&;#63;'&;quot; Yukelson added. &;quot;Well‚ it's simple economics‚&;quot; he concluded. &;quot; There's just not enough housing for people. And there's policies that we've had in place for more than four decades that are not working‚ and they need to be balanced so at least the property owners have a fighting chance to stay in the business&;#33; It's crazy&;#33;&;quot; The law is considered to be the first of its kind in the U.S.‚ but its detractors are afraid that it will spread to other states. The bill has passed the Judiciary Committee and is now on the Assembly floor. Yukelson admits that Haney's office has been trying to come up with a compromise to answer some of the criticism‚ including the possibility of increasing limits on security deposits. He did identify one benefit of the mismanagement of politics in California. &;quot; The only thing we have going for us to help our housing is people are leaving California in droves‚ but those are all the taxpayers&;#33;&;quot; he joked. Haney's office did not respond to requests for a comment from Blaze News. Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. 'I’m being so serious': Jake Paul declares he will fight in MMA after Mike Tyson boxing match

YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul announced his intention to have a mixed martial arts fight following his boxing match against Mike Tyson. After his fight with the boxing legend‚ Paul said on his &;quot;Problem Child&;quot; podcast that he is &;quot;so serious&;quot; about fighting UFC fan favorites Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz in MMA.Paul and Tyson will box on June 20‚ 2024‚ while Masvidal and Diaz will box weeks before on June 1‚ 2024. Following those fights‚ Paul said he would like to take six months to train for a fight against either in the Professional Fighters League‚ a mixed martial arts organization to which Paul is signed.&;quot;I'm being so serious when I say that I want to fight them in MMA‚&;quot; Paul said on his podcast. &;quot;$10 million offer‚&;quot; he continued. The 9-1 fighter said that both UFC fighters have hidden behind the idea that he isn't a good boxer and therefore would be even worse in a cage.&;quot; All of these guys hide behind these crazy things‚&;quot; he went on while naming other UFC fighters like Paddy Pimblett and Sean Strickland. &;quot;None of them have shown up to the table to talk any business about anything to make anything actually happen in a real fight or a real spar‚ whatever it is.&;quot; After a cohost asked for a realistic timeline on an MMA fight‚ Paul said &;quot;obviously&;quot; he has Mike Tyson first but to just &;quot;do it after that.&;quot;&;quot;I would do like a six month camp‚&;quot; he added.&;quot; You've got to learn some kicks‚ my man‚&;quot; his brother Logan Paul‚ a professional wrestler‚ mocked. Jake Paul wants to fight Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal in MMA after Mike Tyson \ud83d\ude2f — (@) Masvidal and Diaz have not expressed a lot of desire to fight Paul in an MMA cage. Diaz has fought Paul in boxing and has expressed some interest in a potential MMA bout‚ but he has shut down fighting in the PFL‚ which he rightfully called a smaller organization with less of a reputation.&;quot;I'm good — I'd rather fight real fighters. And never back track to the minor leagues‚&;quot; Diaz said in November 2023.Masvidal explained that since he is still under contract with the UFC‚ the organization's top executives were not interested in making Paul any type of money or increasing his brand. In fact‚ the Cuban fighter revealed that UFC President Dana White had even sponsored Tyson's camp for their boxing match.&;quot;Under no circumstances&;quot; would the UFC allow a &;quot;top draw&;quot; to go to PFL and make it money‚ Masvidal claimed. When asked about Paul during a press conference ahead of their boxing match‚ both Diaz and Masvidal responded by saying‚ &;quot;F**k Jake Paul‚&;quot; with Masvidal adding‚ &;quot; There are real fighters over here.&;quot;A six-month camp would cast strong doubt on Paul's MMA debut taking place in 2024‚ which was long anticipated by fans. The timeline would be limited to an end-of-year event‚ which isn't out of the question. Many MMA promotions often save big events for mid-December‚ with the UFC typically taking a month break after the end of the year through mid-January.PFL executive Donn Davis has already stated that Paul's debut has taken longer than expected‚ as he appeared to be prioritizing boxing for 90% of his training.Professional MMA fighter T.J. Laramie‚ who fought in the UFC in 2022‚ told Blaze News that he was also skeptical of Paul entering a cage in 2024.&;quot;I highly doubt he will make his way to the PFL this year‚&;quot; Laramie said. &;quot; If he loses the boxing match‚ it could be a different story‚ and it would make more sense to try his luck in an MMA cage‚&;quot; the featherweight added.Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. All hail Taylor&;#33; Blaze host creates hilarious mock trailer about a society where (almost) everyone is a Swiftie.

At midnight‚ global icon Taylor Swift dropped her 11th studio album – “The Tortured Poets Department” – which fans have been eagerly awaiting since Swift announced it in February at the Grammys. Already‚ the surprise double album is making headlines everywhere. Once again‚ Swift has knocked it out of the park. This should come as no surprise because‚ after all‚ who doesn’t love Taylor Swift&;#63; While it is true that the album appears to be an immediate success‚ the truth is not everyone understands the hype surrounding the global superstar. One of those people is Blaze Media host Alex Stein‚ who likes to‚ shall we say‚ poke fun at the absurdities of modern society — one being this widespread and unprecedented obsession with Taylor Swift. In a mock movie trailer about a tyrannical society where almost everyone worships the blond pop star‚ Stein channels the dystopian world of Orwell’s “1984.” However‚ this satirical film is appropriately titled “1989‚” which not only brilliantly references Swift’s fifth studio album but also parallels the literary themes of “The Tortured Poets Department.” Dark‚ gritty‚ and unapologetically sardonic‚ Stein’s “1989” offers opportunities for both laughter and reflection. You don’t want to miss it. Check it out below. And to all the diehard Swifties who will inevitably find offense in the trailer‚ please‚ shake it off. Migrants‚ advocacy group say city's plan to provide 6 months of free housing‚ other services is 'insufficient'

A housing advocacy organization and migrants in Denver‚ Colorado‚ recently organized a protest against the city's &;quot;insufficient&;quot; plan to provide 1‚000 migrants with six months of free housing and a number of other services‚ KMGH-TV reported.Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D) announced an immigration program last week to address the increase in migrant arrivals. More than 40‚000 illegal migrants have arrived in the city since December 2020.The mayor's new Denver Asylum Seekers Program aims to provide longer-term solutions to address the city's migrant crisis. It will provide six months of rent‚ food assistance‚ job training‚ and more to 1‚000 migrants. Migrants arriving in Denver after April 10 will be required to vacate the city's shelters after 24 to 72 hours. After that‚ they will be &;quot;provided a short-term stay at a congregate site along with assistance securing onward travel to another destination.&;quot; Previously‚ migrants were able to stay in the shelters for two to six weeks.Along with the new migrant program‚ Johnston also announced considerable budget cuts‚ including slashing the Denver Police Department's budget by $8.4 million‚ the sheriff's office by $3.8 million‚ and the fire department by $2.4 million‚ the Daily Mail reported.Johnston stated during a Wednesday press conference‚ &;quot; We will take all the folks that are in shelter tonight and be able to right away allow them access to that program. They will be the first in line to that program.&;quot;&;quot; It'll be somewhere around 1‚000 [people] that will enter into the program as we launch it in the next few days‚&;quot; he continued.Housekeys Action Network Denver‚ a housing advocacy group‚ claimed that the mayor's plan would force migrants to &;quot;fend for themselves after 24 to 72 hours‚&;quot; KMGH reported. The organization called the program &;quot;a slap in the face and an offensive period of time.&;quot;Willy Bastidas‚ a migrant‚ told the news outlet‚ &;quot;I think that it's insufficient.&;quot;&;quot; The mayor doesn't represent us. ... He needs to listen to us and work with us to a better solution‚&;quot; Bastidas added.Jon Ewing‚ a spokesperson with Denver Human Resources‚ told KMGH‚ &;quot;Denver has never turned anyone away and never will. We will still provide temporary shelter so that new arrivals to our city have a place to stay and we will still help them get to family‚ friends or other networks of support. We will still provide meals and we will still address immediate medical concerns. But we must transition to a long-term model that serves those currently in our care in a much more substantial way than what has previously been offered. We believe the Denver Asylum Seekers Program does just that.&;quot;Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. 'You talkin' s**t to my daughter&;#63;' Mom allegedly boards school bus‚ repeatedly punches 64-year-old driver‚ drags her by hair

Surveillance video caught the moment last week when a mom allegedly boarded a school bus in Mesa‚ Arizona‚ asked the 64-year-old bus driver if she was &;quot;talkin' s**t&;quot; to her daughter‚ and then unleashed a flurry of punches on the driver — and even began dragging the screaming driver by her hair toward the bus exit. Video released of Mesa bus driver attack youtu.be Police on Wednesday arrested 27-year-old Hermenegilda Marquez in connection with the April 11 incident‚ KSAZ-TV reported‚ adding that she's accused of aggravated assault on a school employee — a felony.Investigators stated that &;quot;the defendant was shown video of the attack on the bus and was told that because she was on video committing the assault‚ she would be charged with a felony‚ but she showed no emotion upon hearing this‚&;quot; KSAZ added.Oh‚ and KTVK-TV reported that Marquez was already on unsupervised probation for a domestic violence assault conviction. What's the background&;#63;Investigators said the incident took place after the bus driver dropped off children at a designated stop in a residential neighborhood near McKellips Road and 4th Avenue‚ KSAZ said‚ adding that court documents indicate the bus driver told police she's a substitute driver and normally isn't on the route.Court documents indicated that school district video shows Marquez entering the bus and yelling at the driver‚ KSAZ reported.&;quot; You talkin' s**t to my daughter&;#63;&;quot; the mother is heard yelling multiple times as she walks up the bus steps while students walk down the steps next to her and exit the bus. The woman appears to take a swing at the bus driver‚ who hollers at her to get off the bus.KTVK‚ citing documents‚ reported that the bus driver said she didn’t know Marquez or her daughter and reportedly told Marquez she hadn’t said anything to anyone.Soon‚ the mother exited the bus — but video shows at least two other individuals getting on the bus steps to berate the driver with one of them calling her a &;quot;stupid ass bitch.&;quot; With that‚ the mother got on the bus again and physically attacked the screaming driver with a flurry of punches and slaps. The attacker even tried to drag the bus driver out by her hair.Court documents state that a male later identified as the defendant's boyfriend ran aboard the bus and pulled the defendant off the bus‚ KSAZ reported‚ adding that investigators said Marquez fled the scene in a car before officers arrived. KSAZ's initial story about the attack cited a district letter to families saying the bus driver suffered minor injuries. KTVK‚ citing police‚ said the bus driver's pacemaker began to shock her.A judge ordered the woman to stay away from the bus stop and set her bail at $5‚000‚ according to a KSAZ video report.Below is a longer video of the attack‚ including what prefaced it as well as the aftermath. The PERFECT analogy to explain why Caitlin Clark’s WNBA salary makes sense

In the wake of Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark signing with the Indiana Fever‚ fans are outraged at the superstar’s projected WNBA salary‚ which will earn her just $76‚535 for her rookie season. When you consider that Clark was the number-one draft pick‚ that amount does seem remarkably low‚ especially when you consider that the number-one draft pick for the NBA in 2023 was Victor Wembanyama‚ whose starting salary with the San Antonio Spurs was just over $12 million. Is this fair&;#63; According to Dave Rubin and guest Dennis Prager‚ yes. While Dave gives credit where credit is due‚ calling Clark a “spectacular women’s basketball player‚” he doesn’t think “[taking] some money from LeBron James and [giving] it to Caitlin Clark” is the answer. Prager agrees‚ offering an analogy that puts things into perspective. “How much does a supermodel make&;#63; The truth is some of them make millions of dollars a year‚” he tells Dave. And he’s correct. In 2023‚ several supermodels made tens of millions of dollars‚ and every single one of them was – you guessed it – a woman. “Are there any male supermodels who make millions of dollars a year&;#63;” Prager asks. “I doubt it.” Correct again. The highest-paid male model of 2023 was Sean O’Pry‚ who earned roughly $1.5 million. Why the disparity&;#63; “Because generally speaking‚ people would rather see women models than male models‚” says Prager. “So is it fair that male models make so much less than female models&;#63; Yes‚ of course it’s fair&;#33;” And just as the male modeling industry pales in comparison to the female modeling industry‚ so “the WNBA does not bring in the revenue of the NBA.” “They take the gender confusion and then they combine it into something as it relates to capitalism that really just all leads to socialism‚” says Dave. To hear more of the conversation‚ watch the clip below.
