A woman who alleged she had been sex-trafficked by the late Jeffrey Epstein chortled when news broke that the identities of 170 people connected with Epstein will be revealed. Virginia Giuffre‚ who claimed she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17 at Epstein’s home‚ eventually settled a $12 million lawsuit with Prince Andrew. The estate of the late “Lord of the Rings” author J.R.R. Tolkien has prevailed in a lawsuit against a fan who claimed to have authored “the obvious pitch-perfect sequel” to the beloved fantasy trilogy‚ The New York Times reported on Thursday. U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson‚ of the Central District of California‚ ruled last week in a summary judgment that the author — Demetrious Polychron — had violated copyright protections on works owned by the Tolkien Estate‚ ordering all physical and digital copies of the work to be destroyed. The battle between Polychron and the Tolkien Estate actually began six years earlier — when the aspiring author had sent both a digital and physical copy of his book‚ “The Fellowship of the King” — to Simon Tolkien‚ the original author’s grandson. Polychron included a letter with the book‚ in which he explained he “didn’t have a choice” but to write the would-be sequel and that he had time to “stick as close to canon” as possible. But Judge Wilson’s ruling suggested that Polychron may have stuck a little too close to canon in his writing‚ noting that he had found “direct evidence of copying.” As the NYT reported: The book included major characters from “Lord of the Rings‚” including Samwise Gamgee‚ Aragorn and Sauron‚ according to court documents‚ as well as verbatim copying of at least 15 poems or passages from the trilogy; the use of Middle-earth and dozens of other settings from the original books‚ described in detail; and the duplication of a central plot and structure‚ among other copied elements. The estate denied Polychron license to “create sequels or extensions” to the late author’s work‚ but Polychron later self-published the book. When the Tolkien Estate learned of that development — in March of 2023 — it attempted to put a stop to that by sending Polychron a “cease and desist” letter. Warner Bros. had a challenging time promoting the film due to controversies involving Miller in the months leading up to the release after he faced multiple accusations of criminal activity. The studio partially relied on word of mouth to publicize “The Flash” and the then-inherent popularity of the superhero genre. In November‚ “The Marvels” suffered the worst opening weekend in Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise history and the worst second-weekend drop of all time for Marvel Studios‚ beating out the previous holder “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantamania.” The Brie Larson-led film fell 78% in box office performance for its second weekend out and had the worst-ever box office drop for any modern-day Hollywood superhero film‚ The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Actor John Stamos recalls being so depressed about getting a DUI in 2015 that he kept drinking. “When I did get the DUI…I came home from the hospital that night‚ I sat down‚ I drank a bottle of wine just to forget what just happened‚” the “Full House” actor said during a recent interview with People. “And I never sobered up.” The 60-year-old said immediately after the incident‚ he had to go film “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.” Stamos said he kept drinking to numb the pain of what he was going through. “When you sober up‚ you have to look at the ugly truth‚ so you keep drinking‚” he told the outlet. “So I was kind of just loosely buzzed through the shooting of that movie.” Stamos said those two incidents represent a rock bottom point in his life. “That was bottom‚” he said during a recent appearance on the “Bialik Breakdown” podcast. “But I didn’t get it and I just numbed myself for a few weeks after that. An ironic plot twist caused a planned vote to limit sales on gas-powered cars in Maine‚ forcing a transition to electric vehicles‚ to come to a screeching halt: a widespread power outage following recent storms that brought heavy rains and high winds. The Maine Board of Environmental Protection was scheduled to take a final vote on the proposal — which would have called for electric and plug-in hybrids to total 43% of new vehicle sales by 2027 and over 80% by 2032 — but after Governor Janet Mills (D-ME) declared a state of emergency on Tuesday‚ the vote was postponed until early February. In addition to the vote being postponed‚ the effective date of the potential policy has been pushed to 2028 for the first threshold. The board would reevaluate the situation in 2028 to determine the next steps in whether a full transition to electric vehicles would be feasible. A non-binding vote in October showed that the majority of the board supported the move‚ but there has been a fair amount of pushback from car dealers and Republican lawmakers. U.S. Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) has also issued a statement opposing it. “The Maine Board of Environmental Protection will vote on proposed rules that would establish a California-style set of mandates forcing Maine auto dealers – and ultimately their customers – to purchase zero emission vehicles‚” Golden said. “Earlier this year‚ I submitted testimony in opposition to such a mandate and have taken every opportunity in Congress to vote against policy that amounts to de facto electric vehicle mandates. Forcing Mainers to purchase cars and trucks powered by electricity when our grid is insufficient‚ charging stations are few and far between‚ and a storm like yesterday’s would render 80% of cars useless is‚ to say the least‚ ill-advised. Biden said earlier this month‚ “I am willing to make significant compromises on the border. We need to fix the broken border system. It is broken. And thus far‚ I’ve gotten no response.” Johnson noted that the GOP-led House passed border legislation — H.R. 2 — earlier this year. A Christian couple is suing the Rockford‚ Michigan‚ Public School District‚ alleging that teachers secretly used a different name and male pronouns for their autistic daughter. Dan and Jennifer Mead’s lawsuit — filed by Alliance Defending Freedom on Monday — alleges that staff at East Rockford Middle School began referring to their 13-year-old daughter with male pronouns and a masculine name beginning in the fall of 2022. Earlier that year‚ the girl‚ referred to as G.M. in court documents‚ met with a school counselor and allegedly said she identified as a boy. “The Meads were stunned when they discovered that the District had—without seeking their consent and while actively concealing information from them—begun to treat G.M. as a boy‚ referring to her with male pronouns and a masculine name at school‚” the lawsuit says. “As directed by the District’s policy‚ District employees—employees the Meads had trusted with sensitive information about G.M.’s mental health—deliberately changed G.M.’s school records to conceal the fact that the District was treating their daughter as a boy without their knowledge‚” the complaint added. Rockford‚ a city of around 6‚000 people just north of Grand Rapids‚ is a relatively conservative area‚ but according to ADF‚ the school district went along with the radical gender theories pushed by many on the Left‚ violating the Meads’ “sincerely held religious beliefs and parental rights.” G.M.’s transition to identifying as a boy allegedly began after she was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (without intellectual or language impairment)‚ Generalized Anxiety Disorder‚ and Major Depressive Disorder in January of 2022‚ according to the lawsuit. Then in May of 2022‚ Erin Cole‚ one of the school’s counselors‚ allegedly received a message from G.M. on the school’s computer program that allows students to communicate with school employees. The alleged message read‚ “Hi Could you email my teachers and tell them to call me F[]?” — a common male name‚ the lawsuit states. For the next few weeks until the end of the school year‚ Cole allegedly communicated with Jennifer Mead multiple times‚ but never brought up her daughter’s request to change her name. The Meads said they only discovered the school was using male pronouns and a different name for their daughter after one school employee forgot to remove the new name and masculine pronouns from G.M.’s records. After the Meads found out how the school was referring to their daughter‚ the school staff member attempted to go back and remove the masculine pronouns from G.M.’s record‚ according to the lawsuit. After finding out that the school went along with G.M.’s name and pronoun change‚ the Meads withdrew their daughter from the school district and began homeschooling her‚ alleging that the Rockford Public School District’s “constitutional violations destroyed [their] trust in the counselors‚ administrators‚ and other District employees with whom they had shared intimate details about G.M.’s and their lives.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “Parents‚ not the government‚ have the right to direct the upbringing‚ education‚ and health care of their children‚” ADF Senior Counsel Kate Anderson said in a statement. “Schools should never deliberately hide vital information from parents‚ yet that’s exactly what the Rockford Public School District did.” Rockford Public School District Superintendent Steven Matthews said earlier this week that the district still had not read through the legal documents “completely‚” according to WOOD-TV. “We respect the privacy of this family and as such have no comment at this time‚” Matthews said. “Our staff continue to support all students and their families as we work together to help our students learn and grow.”

This week‚ Greg Abbott‚ the governor of Texas‚ signed a law that will allow local police in the state to arrest illegal migrants. The law will also permit state judges to order the removal of these migrants. The Biden administration is going to challenge the law‚ as you’d expect‚ because immigration enforcement is generally regarded as the sole responsibility of the federal government. Even though the Biden administration is completely ignoring that responsibility‚ on purpose‚ they’re still going to maintain that states like Texas aren’t allowed under the Constitution to do the job for them. Not to sound too defeatist‚ but the Biden administration is probably going to win this case. That’s what happens every single time conservatives try to use the legal system to defend this country’s borders. It happened when Donald Trump tried to reverse DACA‚ which was de facto amnesty for hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens. Even though DACA was just invented on the spot by Barack Obama to help Democrats in an election year‚ the federal courts determined that the Trump administration wasn’t allowed to get rid of it. Along the same lines‚ when Arizona passed a law allowing police officers to inspect the immigration status of suspected illegal aliens‚ the Supreme Court struck that down‚ too. These kinds of legal defeats have gone on for decades. But this week‚ Greg Abbott seemed convinced he can win this fight. Watch: Obviously‚ if Abbott somehow succeeds in this court battle against the Biden administration‚ then Texas could single-handedly halt the flood of foreign nationals into this country. Texas could ensure that it doesn’t become the next California. Everyone who cares about the future of this country would then herald Greg Abbott as a hero‚ and rightfully so.  But given recent history‚ it’s probably worth having a “Plan B.” And what that means is broadening the focus beyond the Biden administration. You wouldn’t know this if you listen to most conservative politicians‚ but the White House isn’t solely responsible for the immigration crisis at the southern border. They’re not the only reason we’re importing entire cities’ worth of illegal migrants from the third world every year. The Biden administration has some help. And for the most part‚ the organizations providing this help have escaped scrutiny.  WATCH: The Matt Walsh Show But that began to change quickly this week‚ when Ashley St. Clair‚ the conservative commentator‚ uploaded a video to social media as she waited to board a Delta flight at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport. Here’s what she saw: My @Delta flight from Phoenix appears to be flying migrants who crossed the border and are being shipped to New York When I asked a Delta representative if this was the case‚ his response was “What does it matter‚ they’re humans too” What is happening???? pic.twitter.com/zew340d6u2 — Ashley St. Clair (@stclairashley) December 19‚ 2023 Ashley wrote on social media that she later approached a Delta representative to ask what was going on here. She says she received this response: “What does it matter? They’re humans too.” She then posted this question to Delta on X: “Why the hell is @delta complicit in shipping illegal migrants from border states like Arizona to New York City? Our own mayor (a Democrat) has begged Biden to stop sending the migrants here because we are overwhelmed. Is Delta being directed to transport these migrants or are they willingly shipping illegal migrants to cities they know are crumbling for a paycheck from taxpayers?” Predictably‚ Delta ignored her. The Daily Mail independently reached out to Delta‚ and didn’t receive a response. But Ashley did host a “Spaces” chat on X last night‚ in which pilots joined and said‚ among other things‚ that this is a common occurrence at airports. These pilots were too afraid to say any of this publicly‚ and they used voice-scrambling technology to hide their identities. So there’s no way to verify what they said. What that means is that‚ because of the blackout from the airlines‚ we don’t have clarity on who’s paying for these migrants’ premium seats. We also don’t know why these migrants are in this country. Did they submit a fraudulent asylum claim and get waved in by the Biden administration?  That’s the normal way this is done‚ and apparently that’s what’s happening in Phoenix. Tayler Hansen with TENET media says he saw dozens of migrants at Phoenix’s airport this week. He reported they were receiving expedited security screening at the airport. When he spoke to some of these migrants‚ they admitted they were here to get jobs — not because they had legitimate asylum claims (which would require fear of persecution in their home country). So at least they’ve already been Americanized in that respect. Again‚ we really have no idea how large-scale this operation is‚ or who’s paying for it. But it does appear that Delta and other airlines know something that they’re not telling us. If the federal government is paying an airline to relocate illegal migrants‚ it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened. Last year‚ an official in Westchester County‚ New York obtained footage showing that migrants were being transported on secret charter flights‚ in the middle of the night‚ from the southern border to New York. In body camera footage dated August 13‚ 2021‚ one federal contractor tells a Westchester County police officer that‚ “The government is betraying the American people.” Watch: So DHS claimed that nothing was out of the ordinary. They claimed that the contractors were lying‚ and that the Biden administration is just trying to reunite families‚ and for some reason‚ they’re doing it in the middle of the night. Oh‚ and also‚ they just forgot to disclose this to anyone‚ until this bodycam footage leaked‚ and they had to come up with some explanation as quickly as possible. Even if you buy that story‚ no one has ever explained why the federal government should ever be in the business of “reuniting” anyone in the first place. If you‚ as an American citizen‚ are separated from your family because you commit a federal crime‚ then guess what? The government’s not going to pay for your family to visit you in prison. Nor should they‚ the whole premise is absurd. But it’s gone unchallenged. And so private companies have continued to facilitate the transportation of migrants throughout the country. The guy claims he’s not doing anything wrong. But he also doesn’t want to mention his name‚ or his employer‚ or who hired his employer‚ or where he’s picking up these migrants.  We’ve seen this a lot lately. A few months ago‚ a New Yorker noticed a bunch of guards standing outside a hotel. It turned out to be one of the many hotels that’s been co-opted for use as an emergency migrant shelter. Watch how the guards responded to the man’s questions: They end up calling an NYPD officer over to harass this guy‚ and to his credit‚ the NYPD officer refuses to do so. But that still raises the question of who these guards are‚ and why the NYPD is stationed at the hotel. To be fair‚ New Yorkers voted for this — they wanted a sanctuary city and they got it. But we’re seeing this same pattern of secrecy play out everywhere now. It’s not just happening in New York. This is a recurring pattern that’s played out again and again. The various organizations that are helping the Biden administration resettle migrants are very cagey about the whole thing. The only way to get any clear answers is to speak directly to the migrants themselves. Often‚ they’re willing to open up about what’s going on. That’s why the other day‚ the commentator using the name “Nuance Bro” decided to speak to some of these migrants. Again‚ he was at Phoenix airport‚ waiting for his flight. Why are these migrants from Guinea carrying paperwork from “Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona?” If you go to that organization’s website‚ you’ll find that they claim to help “families who have legally entered the United States and have escaped persecution in their home countries.” They say they‚ “serve migrant families who have left their home countries to escape violence and poverty.” So essentially‚ they’re adopting the Biden administration’s approach. They’re treating all asylum claims as valid‚ no matter how fraudulent they are. That raises a couple of questions. For one thing‚ are these Catholic charities receiving money from the federal government for helping to resettle these illegal migrants? What kind of services are they providing exactly? We need the answers to these questions‚ because it’s not just one Catholic group in Southern Arizona that’s involved. Resettling migrants in Europe and the United States‚ without regard for the wellbeing of either country‚ is now the policy of the Vatican. With Pope Francis’ blessing‚ the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops operates something called “Migration and Refugee Services.” They say their mission is to‚ “Treat refugees‚ migrants‚ and people on the move … with dignity‚ respect‚ welcome‚ and belonging.” In Christian theological circles‚ this is known as “liberation theology.” It was prominent in Latin America in the 1960s. The idea is that the oppressed need to be liberated. It is rooted in Marxist ideology‚ and publicly‚ Pope Francis has suggested that he rejects it. In the same breath‚ though‚ the Pope goes out of his way to make it clear that he endorses illegal migration. Just this week‚ the Pope defended a group that’s charged with bringing illegal migrants into Italy. He also told leaders in Europe to start treating migration to their continent as a fact of life‚ instead of an emergency. This is not consistent with actual Catholic teaching‚ which puts a high premium on the rule of law. But that’s now how the progressive leaders of the church in the modern age see it. When was the last time you heard about NGO’s‚ or Catholic charities‚ or Pope Francis‚ or major airlines‚ or limousine charter companies‚ in the context of the immigration crisis? For that matter‚ when was the last time you heard anything about the white-shoe law firms — particularly the firms in New York — that offer “pro bono” legal services to fraudulent asylum applicants? That happens all the time. Illegal migrants from places like Venezuela are coming here with made-up sob stories‚ and they’re getting high-powered legal representation for free. When was the last time these organizations were called before Congress to answer basic questions about their level of involvement in the flood of migrants at our southern border? It’s never happened‚ as far as I can tell. If we take conservatives like Governor Greg Abbott at their word‚ then they view this flood of migrants as an invasion. But so far‚ they’ve only fought back against the Biden administration‚ which is well-protected by the federal courts. That strategy needs to change. According to some estimates‚ Joe Biden has imported 250 years’ worth of Hispanic migrants into this country in just three years. That is not compassion. That endangers millions of Americans who have done nothing wrong. It destroys our sovereignty and our way of life. And it’s going to continue until we admit a very uncomfortable fact‚ which is that Democrats in congress and the White House aren’t the only reason this is happening.
