Broadcast Journalists Watch in Horror As Texas Protects Its Border

Broadcast networks are still angry about a bill signed into law Tuesday by Texas Governor Greg Abbott‚ which empowers state and local law enforcement to arrest and deport illegal aliens. This is the second round of whining we’ve seen in response to this law; the first bout came when the Texas legislature passed the bill several weeks ago. At that time‚ the common refrain from talking heads was that the bill necessarily would lead to “racial profiling” and “discrimination.” Broadcast reporters this week raised that same objection‚ while also touting pending litigation by outraged open borders advocacy groups (which they described as “civil rights” organizations).     “Immigration rights groups say they are already preparing to file a lawsuit because this encourages racial profiling and encourages migrants to seek asylum‚” exclaimed ABC correspondent Mireya Villarreal on the December 19 Good Morning America. She also described the law as “one of the most aggressive approaches a state has taken” in attempting to curb immigration. The following day on CBS Mornings‚ correspondent Omar Villafranca one-upped that characterization: “Many are calling that law one of the harshest anti-immigration laws in the country.” He added ominously: “The punishments would be harsher than federal law.” That same morning‚ NBC’s Today brandished sound bites from both the ACLU and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre‚ in which they panned the supposedly racially discriminatory nature of the new law: “It’s gonna open the door to racial profiling.” On Thursday‚ ABC’s Good Morning America ran a report detailing all of Governor Abbott’s border enforcement sins. “Texas now flying migrants to Chicago‚ days after Governor Greg Abbott signed that controversial new law‚” co-host Robin Roberts complained. As always‚ the American media frame every illegal immigration story as a battle between kindhearted immigration activists and curmudgeonly dinosaurs who‚ for some unknowable (and probably racist) reason‚ still think borders should exist.

Ex-Tennessee police officer sues city of La Vergne‚ claims 'racial prejudice' in firing over shocking sex scandal

A former Tennessee police officer involved in the shocking sex scandal that rocked the La Vergne Police Department has sued the city for racial prejudice. Last week‚ former La Vergne Sgt. Lewis Powell filed a lawsuit against the city of La Vergne; La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole; the city's Human Resources director‚ Andrew Patton; and former Police Chief Chip Davis‚ according to court records. As Blaze News previously reported in January‚ Powell was one of five La Vergne Police Department officers fired after an investigation into allegations of sexual escapades between the officers. The department’s police chief‚ Burrel "Chip" Davis‚ was also terminated after investigators determined that he "was aware of the sexual misconduct within his department and never reported or disciplined any of the officers involved."The sexual misconduct accusations of the sex scandal also resulted in three other officers being suspended following the December 2022 investigation. La Vergne Police Department officer Maegan Hall was fired after the internal probe allegedly discovered that she had sexual relationships with six of her coworkers — including a threesome with the wife of one of the cops. The report claimed that Hall performed oral sex on two officers at the police station and in the department's gym while the officers were on duty.Patrol Officer Patrick Magliocco told Director of Human Resources Andrew Patton that Hall had told him about Powell’s "big black d***‚" according to the report. The officers were accused of exchanging explicit photos and videos.Hall defended herself by saying‚ "My supervisors worked together to take advantage of my vulnerabilities and mental health‚ and they used it for their gain and their sexual pleasure."Hall claimed Powell threatened to kill himself when she tried to break up with him‚ "leaving Hall struggling to cope with her own anxiety‚ depression‚ and collapsing mental health‚" according to the Daily Mail. Powell alleged in a previous filing‚ "Consequently‚ in approximately May 2022‚ Powell began trying to break things off amicably with Hall‚ saying that he loved his wife. Nonetheless‚ Hall persisted in trying to entrap him back into a relationship. Hall (who is white) appeared to have some sort of fetish for Powell (who is black) based on his race.""Initially‚ she began by talking about sex. She complained to Powell that her own marital sex life was unsatisfying‚" Powell's filing says. "After Powell responded with an idea or two about how she might spice things up with her husband‚ Hall asked if Powell could demonstrate. That way‚ she said that she would know how to please her husband."Powell claimed that when he rejected her sexual advances‚ she lashed back by saying that he "must be a homosexual" if he didn't desire her.In Powell's lawsuit filed last week‚ the former La Vergne Police Department officer claims that he was terminated partly because of his race."They terminated and defamed all the officers involved — except for those who were white and male — based at least partly on racial prejudice‚" the lawsuit states. Powell argues in the lawsuit that he had a casual relationship with a female colleague for a short amount of time but stresses that he did not violate any department rules. He also notes that he was never reprimanded or disciplined by his superiors for his actions. Powell claims that Chief Davis instructed him to "deny that anything had even occurred at all" between himself and Hall. Powell alleges that he falsely denied a relationship with Hall because he took the advice of Davis. The lawsuit alleges Mayor Cole and the department became "aroused with righteous indignation that his officers had committed fornication under his watch" following the discovery of the scandal‚ and "Mayor Cole and Director Patton determined to get to the bottom of the situation and uncover every juicy detail."Powell is asking for a jury trial‚ back and front pay‚ $3 million in damages‚ plus attorney fees.Hall launched a lawsuit against the city in March. The lawsuit argues‚ "Where Ms. Hall sought role models at her new job‚ she instead found predators. In place of offering professional development‚ her supervisors and the chief of police groomed her for sexual exploitation.""Maegan Hall felt trapped in the role assigned to her at the City of La Vergne Police Department and‚ in an attempt to escape‚ she nearly killed herself‚" the lawsuit notes. "Then‚ the City blamed her for everything. This lawsuit seeks justice for Maegan Hall." Former La Vergne Police Chief addresses sex scandal www.youtube.com Like Blaze News? Old travel book returned to library — 90 years after its due date: 'Fortunately ... we no longer charge late fines!'

A Massachusetts library received an unexpected Christmas present this year: an old book checked out nearly a century ago and returned by a stranger of good will.On Monday‚ the Watertown Free Library in Watertown‚ Massachusetts‚ less than 10 miles west of Boston‚ posted on Facebook that it now has a copy of "Hill Towns of Italy" by Egerton Ryerson Williams back in its keep. Originally checked out in January 1934‚ the book was returned by a "far-flung patron" who found the book somewhere in Washington‚ D.C.The thoughtful person then stopped by the library during "a trip to Boston" to return it‚ the post explained.Back in 1934‚ the library allowed patrons to check books out for two weeks at a time and charged a $.02 late fee for every day they were late. After almost 90 years‚ the original loanee would have had to cough up approximately $656 in back payment. "Fortunately for them‚ we no longer charge late fines!" the library post joked."If you return an item that is 'billed‚' your charges for that item disappear!" it assured library users.True to its title‚ "Hill Towns of Italy" offers readers a glimpse at some picturesque towns in remote parts of Italy which other travel guides at the time seemingly ignored. "It was this lack of a comprehensive book upon the hill towns which induced me to give to the public these memoirs‚ records of individual experience‚ ... to draw the attention of those who go abroad to the wonderful cities of the Apennines‚ and in the hope that those who stay at home may be able to see them‚ at least faintly‚ through my eyes‚" Williams of Rochester‚ New York‚ wrote in the preface dated October 4‚ 1903‚ the same year the book was published. The copyright on the book has long since expired‚ so interested readers may access the book for free online. Those who prefer reading books in a traditional format may also head to the Watertown library‚ which now has a hard copy of it once again.Like Blaze News? NYC Mayor Adams slams 'far-left' city council for forcing cops to record all encounters

New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams Wednesday evening slammed the "far-left" city council for pushing through legislation that would force police officers to document all encounters with the public and restrict solitary confinement for inmates‚ the New York Post reported.During an interview with WABC host John Catsimatidis‚ Adams stated that the council members are "digging in deep" regarding leftist‚ radical policies."You have people who have a far-left agenda‚ who don't believe in supporting police‚ and they're just writing this legislation‚ and just handing it over to the council people‚" Adams explained. The mayor noted that most New York City residents support the local police department."They want their police to do public safety‚ and not filling out paperwork. That's the same with the Department of Corrections‚" Adams continued. He claimed that the controversial bills were passed because of the "numerical minority" that is "controlling the narrative."On Wednesday‚ the City Council voted to approve the bills despite strong opposition from the mayor and the police and jail guard unions. The "How Many Stops Act‚" which passed in a 35-9 vote‚ will require police officers to report every single stop. The bill's sponsors claim the measure will hold authorities accountable for unlawful stops and searches.New York City Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry warned that the measure will "bury" police in paperwork‚ WABC reported."We do not have enough police officers‚" Hendry stated. "It won't help us with response times."The second passed measure prohibits nearly all forms of solitary confinement in city jails‚ with an exception for the most violent individuals."All people in city custody would have at least 14 hours of out-of-cell time in shared spaces‚" the city council stated."The Council has taken historic strides to advance justice and safety by banning solitary confinement and improving police transparency‚" ity council speaker Adrienne Adams said. "The physical and psychological harm caused by solitary confinement leads to increased death and violence in jails‚ endangering those incarcerated‚ as well as correction officers and staff."Adams previously vowed to veto the "How Many Stops Act‚" claiming it would "endanger public safety.""There is no way I will sign this bill into law‚" Adams remarked. "This is not how you keep the city safe."The city council's two-thirds majority could override the mayor's veto attempts. The bills are set to become law in three months.Like Blaze News?
