New Medicines May Lie Under the Sea–This Device Sniffs Them Out

Marine organisms are constantly releasing invisible molecules under the ocean’s surface‚ and much like a million anonymous plants in the Amazon‚ scientists believe that some of these compounds could be the medicines of the future. A study team at the Mediterranean Institute of Marine and Continental Biodiversity and Ecology has developed a proof-of-concept device that […] The post New Medicines May Lie Under the Sea–This Device Sniffs Them Out appeared first on Good News Network.

Revealing I’m Afraid You’ve Got Dragons by Peter S. Beagle

A dragon hunter‚ a princess‚ and a lovable cast of characters must come together to take their fates into their own hands… We’re thrilled to share the cover and preview an excerpt from I’m Afraid You’ve Got Dragons a whimsical new fantasy novel from beloved author Peter S. Beagle—available from Saga Press on May 14‚ 2024. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Last Unicorn comes a new novel with equal amounts of power and whimsy in which a loveable cast of characters trapped within their roles of dragon hunter‚ princess‚ and more must come together to take their fates into their own hands. Dragons are common in the backwater kingdom of Bellemontagne‚ coming in sizes from mouse-like vermin all the way up to castle-smashing monsters. Gaius Aurelius Constantine Heliogabalus Thrax (who would much rather people call him Robert) has recently inherited his deceased dad’s job as a dragon catcher/exterminator‚ a career he detests with all his heart in part because he likes dragons‚ feeling a kinship with them‚ but mainly because his dream has always been the impossible one of transcending his humble origin to someday become a princess valet. Needless to say‚ fate has something rather different in mind… Buy I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons from: Cover art by Justin and Annie Gerard Noted author and screenwriter Peter S. Beagle is a recipient of the prestigious Hugo‚ Nebula‚ Locus‚ and Mythopoeic Awards‚ and a World Fantasy and Science Fiction &; Fantasy Writers of America 2018 Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master‚ among other literary achievements. He has given generations of readers the magic of unicorns‚ haunted cemeteries‚ lascivious trees‚ and disgruntled gods. A prolific author‚ his best-known work is The Last Unicorn.     ONE Robert dreamed… It was The Dream—the one that visited him so often that it had long since lost any terrifying aspect and become as drearily predictable as the ones in which he was being driven out of town by a jeering‚ laughing mob‚ or found himself suddenly naked and pink as a shrimp while kneeling to court Violette-Elisabeth‚ the baker’s daughter. Even so‚ The Dream left him feeling strangely thrilled—in a shivery sort of way—when he woke to his mother’s call from downstairs: “Gaius Aurelius! Gaius Aurelius Constantine!” “Not now‚ not now” he muttered into his pillow‚ turning over in forlorn pursuit of a few last fragments of sleep.  But Adelise was on the bed already‚ pulling the coverlet back with her tiny fangs and tickling his ear with her forked tongue. He could hear clumsy Fernand scrabbling for a purchase on the shaky bedstead‚ which meant that Lux would be next‚ and then Reynald— poor little Reynald‚ always last in everything. The call came again. “Gaius Aurelius Constantine Heliogabalus!” He tried to shout “I’m awake!” but only managed a croak this time‚ as he forced himself to sit up. What was in that new batch at Jarold’s last night? “Get away‚ Adelise‚ I’m awake‚ I’m awake…Oh dear God‚ I’m dead but I’m awake.” Reynald’s long scarlet head appeared above the edge of the bed‚ accompanied by a piercing cry for attention. “Reynald‚ keep it down‚ I’m not well.” “Gaius Aurelius Constantine Heliogabalus Thrax‚ it’s chestnut pancakes—and if you’re not here in the kitchen in two minutes‚ it’ll be hog slop!” The three pigs rooting disconsolately in the small pasture out back could no more have passed as hogs than Robert could have‚ but Odelette Thrax was an optimist in all things. “And there’s a job waiting‚ Gaius Aurelius—” “Don’t call me that!” It was enough of a bellow to send all four of the dragons scurrying as he lurched out of bed and began stiffly fumbling his way into his heavy working clothes.  Robert’s mother alternated between being his best friend and a headache to dwarf the one he already had—sometimes she filled both positions simultaneously—but at all times he was extremely fond of her cooking. Adelise leaped to his shoulder as he clumped down the stair‚ her claws skidding on the dragonskin vest that he always wore to a job‚ and whose origins she and the others never seemed to sense. He hated the vest and all the rest of the armor of his trade as he had never hated any item of clothing—all right‚ except for the silly green forester’s cap that his mother had made him wear as a boy—but his customers took confidence in his appearance‚ as some kind of emblem of his expertise‚ and it did have practical benefits in a day’s work‚ for all its uncomfortable stiffness. He reached up awkwardly to pet the carefully-balanced dragonlet‚ feeling the feather- softness of her deep-green scales‚ which would not turn tough‚ almost impermeable‚ for another year yet. The women like them just like this at Dragon Market. The men want the yearlings. The thought of Dragon Market roiled his empty stomach as he sat down at his mother’s table. She was at the stove with her back to him‚ cooking what amounted to her third breakfast of the morning. Robert’s younger brothers‚ Caralos and Hector‚ were of course already out and at work behind a neighboring farmer’s oxen‚ having left at dawn. Now Patience and Rosamonde were racing through their own meal‚ late for lessons as usual‚ too hurried even to greet him. Robert loved his sisters‚ but he also envied them painfully. He had always thought it unjust that village girls got to be properly educated‚ while boys must apprentice early‚ and were lucky if they were taught to read and write at home‚ as he had been. He often peered over his sisters’ shoulders while they were studying‚ until they complained and their mother shooed him away. By the time Patience and Rosamonde had left for the schola‚ trailing promises of good  behavior they would keep only if absolutely necessary‚ Robert had revised his opinion of the day. Chestnut pancakes‚ browned perfectly at the edges…pomegranate syrup…fresh milk…there might be something said for living after all. Wolfing down his third cake‚ he asked   with his mouth full‚ “Who’s the engagé?” He never referred to the people who hired him as customers‚ that being a term favored by those in trade‚ the people who sold things‚ rather than renting out their skills. In all honesty‚ he didn’t actually care‚ but it mattered a great deal to his mother. She was intensely aware that her late husband’s work‚ now Robert’s work by inheritance‚ assigned them to the lowest rung of a steep and unforgiving social ladder. “Medwyn and Norvyn‚ behind the granary.” Odelette turned then‚ frowning as she saw Adelise on his shoulder. “Does she have to hear this?” “Go help the others with the beds‚ Adelise‚” Robert said gently.  The dragonlet flicked out her tongue and spread her miniscule wings‚ their inner vanes flushed purple as thunderclouds‚ then glided to the floor and scuttled up the stairs to Robert’s bedroom. The four of them always did his bed first‚ no matter how often he tried to get them to alter their routine. Sometimes they even tried to make the bed with him still in it. When he was sure the little dragon was out of earshot‚ Robert turned back to his mother. “Medwyn and Norvyn? That’s going to be nasty. Another caud of serpens flamma vegrandis‚ I’ll lay odds—it’d serve them right‚ not letting me sweep for eggs the last time. Five‚ what‚ six seasons in a row‚ is it? You think they’d learn.” “They didn’t like your father. They like you. Maybe you can convince them.” “Not much chance of that so long as they both keep the books. They’re too busy cheating each other to know a bargain‚ once nothing’s blistering their ankles. Ah well‚” he sighed as he slid his seat back‚ “More food on the table‚ and new scrolls for the twins. There are worse livings.” But later‚ after he’d left the house to gather up Ostvald and the day’s tools‚ he had to confess to himself that he really couldn’t think of any.   Excerpted from I’m Afraid You’ve Got Dragons by Peter S. Argentina Just Elected a Libertarian President &; the MSM Hates Javier Milei

By the author of Street Survivalism: A Practical Training Guide To Life In The City and The Ultimate Survival Gear Handbook Their team won the World Cup last year‚ and beautifully so. This last weekend‚ Argentina scored even bigger – a win for freedom – by electing libertarian Javier Milei with 55‚7% over left-wing Peronist candidate Sergio Massa (14 against 11 million votes‚ respectively). Now‚ I’m not one to have pet politicians‚ regardless of their ideological affiliation. Like most people‚ I’m disgusted with the whole election system and politics in general. Though refusing to become overly bitter‚ cynical‚ and disillusioned‚ I admit the current crop of so-called leaders and political cast has little to cheer for. Very little‚ in fact. However‚ I confess to being among those celebrating Javier Milei’s victory as a big win for freedom‚ and sincerely hope he can get Argentina out of its current mess. Call me an optimist‚ but perhaps he can do even more than that and inspire people worldwide to go out and vote for the good ones who insist on this fight despite getting pushed away (or worse) by the depth and filth of the swamp. We must never lose hope. Who is Javier Milei‚ and how did he win? Much in the way of a Trump and Bolsonaro‚ Milei is an outsider. A former economist‚ self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist turned libertarian‚ Milei can communicate his ideas and proposals in a clear‚ concise‚ and fact-based manner‚ despite his crazy hair and wild‚ fierce gesturing. He doesn’t measure his words when talking about communists and other leeches‚ not even when on TV. He ran on a platform of small government‚ radical anti-socialism‚ and Austrian economics – and won.  The Peronists – the populist party that ruled the country for the past 40 years and brought it to its sad current state – threw everything they could to warrant Massa’s election. That’s no small thing considering the power of those in charge‚ on any country even a broken one. Massa and his party also got $upport from leftist governments everywhere‚ including Brazil’s Lula and some say even China. Still‚ Milei won. Why it matters (and not only for Argentina) First‚ it’s a big blow to the Foro de São Paulo. If you have never heard about the Sao Paulo Forum‚ here’s a short brief: Founded by none other than Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and Lula (Brazil’s current president) in 1990‚ the FSP started as a convention for labor/leftist political parties attempting to organize and advance progressive agendas with the intent to grow their influence and participation in Latin America’s political scenario. Forty-eight parties from 14 countries attended the convention. Though that can be considered a legitimate aspiration‚ the event was also attended by members of the FARC (Colombia’s Revolutionary Armed Forces) and Chile’s MIR (Revolutionary Left Movement)‚ two Marxist-Leninist guerrilla groups with cartel ties‚ among other radical groups‚ which raised some questions about its legitimacy and intents‚ to say the least. Since then‚ the mainstream media has publicized or published little about the Forum and its advancements. However‚ many affirm it’s responsible for the Pink Tide‚ the rise of left-leaning governments‚ and the move toward economic and social progressive policies in Latin America since the 2000s. Currently‚ only Uruguay‚ Paraguay‚ Ecuador‚ Peru‚ and now Argentina‚ plus Panama‚ Costa Rica‚ and El Salvador in Central America‚ aren’t governed by FSP members. If you live in North America‚ Europe‚ or Asia and think the Forum is only a ragged leftist congregation of failed banana republics‚ think again. Twenty-three countries attended its last convention‚ held in late June 2023. Beyond the usual suspects (Cuba‚ Venezuela‚ Nicaragua‚ etc.)‚ the list of participants included delegations from China‚ India‚ Russia‚ Belarus‚ Germany‚ Turkey‚ Spain‚ Portugal‚ France‚ EUA‚ Iran‚ and Saudi Arabia. If that doesn’t show an impressive level of organization and influence‚ I don’t know what does. The world is changing‚ and we all better take notice. It’s against that backdrop that Javier Milei’s election brings hope. The global right wing celebrated Milei’s victory like the Argentines celebrated their third World Cup title last year. As made clear‚ I don’t believe in silver bullets‚ certainly not concerning politics‚ economy‚ and social issues. I’m also against messianism and the cult of personality. But I also refuse to become overly cynical and confess to being aligned with many of Milei’s ideas. I believe that’s the case with most other TOP readers as well. In his victory discourse‚ he declared that “today is the end of Argentina’s decline.” Among other things‚ he vowed to: End the Central Bank of Argentina. Dollarize Argentina (make the USD official currency in the country). Drastically cut secretaries and reduce the government apparel to the bare minimum. Fight against state-funded welfare state and other “socialist” benefits. Slash inflation. Cut ties with leftist governments and authorities of all kinds. How can one not root for the guy? The last point is a big one for Milei. He is radically against socialism‚ to the point of openly stating his intention to never negotiate or concede with them on any terms “because you give communists an inch and they will take a mile‚ they will take everything and attempt to destroy you.” He declared Pope Francis – himself an Argentine – a communist. Imagine that. His secretaries didn’t invite Lula or other left-wing presidents to his inauguration on December 10th (former president Bolsonaro‚ though‚ was invited‚ as was Trump‚ who called to congratulate Milei on the win). Milei also declared he’d stop negotiating with China and remove Argentina from Mercosul‚ South America’s regional trading alliance‚ while reinforcing connections and commerce with the US and Western European countries. Those things are easier said than done‚ especially in today’s world and in a country that relies so much on international trading and tourism‚ but shows he at least has a different plan than his predecessors. In short‚ Milei seems intent on making Argentina great again. Only a century ago‚ the now disgraced country was a powerhouse with First World social indicators. The world has changed a lot since the 1920s‚ but who knows? Nobody thought El Salvador could go from the most dangerous to the safest country in Latin America in such a short time. Still‚ President Nabil Bukele (90% approval ratings) seems to have pulled that miracle‚ so perhaps it’s not unreasonable to expect Milei to significantly improve Argentina’s situation during his term. Not everyone is happy. We are living in very polarized and radicalized times. These are also times of deep distrust in institutions‚ and politics is just another area of modern society in which people can’t even agree on the most fundamental issues. Whether legitimate or stolen‚ elections are being heavily disputed‚ which is grave‚ in my opinion‚ but that’s how it is. The woke left cried in despair and disbelief after results were posted. To no one’s surprise‚ Javier Milei is considered a fascist by the leftist‚ though his opponent‚ Sergio Massa‚ elegantly conceded defeat and wished him success. Which came as a surprise‚ showing a level of political maturity and respect not common in recent elections. Whether that will translate into a responsible and constructive opposition or not‚ we’ll see. But it’s a good start‚ particularly when compared to what took place in Brazil last year. The Latin American legacy media‚ 90% left-leaning‚ makes no small business of painting him far-right‚ volatile‚ and radical‚ among other unflattering things. However‚ his ideas resonate big with a massive part of the population‚ tired of ruinous leftist policies that brought Argentina to its knees‚ and brought him to power despite the negative image painted by the media. Milei has a tough job ahead of him. Argentina is devastated‚ suffering with hyperinflation (143% annually)‚ accelerating currency devaluation (950 pesos-to-USD exchange rate‚ worse than that in the black market)‚ and growing misery (40% of the population living in poverty). Crime‚ violence‚ and social unrest are also on the rise‚ and the country’s industry and infrastructure are in poor shape. That gives an idea of the herculean challenge Milei has in his hands. Not only that‚ but Peronists still hold the majority of the congress and‚ after 40 years in power‚ occupy essential positions in Argentina’s administrative bureaucratic system and institutions. We all know what that means‚ given the left’s modus operandi‚ and it can put a severe dent in the executive’s plans. Despite all that‚ Milei seems determined to advance his agenda‚ and the people of Argentina – at least 55% – seem to have had enough of the misery and corruption of the Peronists. The market responded well to Milei’s election‚ with many Argentine companies listed on the NY stock exchange rising 28% even before the opening session on Monday is a good sign. Some point to Javier Milei’s election as another sign of the advancing right-wing conservative movement worldwide. Trump is beating Biden in all recent polls for 2024 elections. Right-wing AfD is surging again in Germany. Finland just formed the most right-wing government in its history. Sweden is cracking down on illegal migrants‚ and the anti-immigration party is part of the government for the first time. The anti-WEF farmer’s party is surging in the Netherlands. Another big one is the hundreds of thousands in Spain marching against the socialist coup. Is change coming? Of course‚ the MSM isn’t reporting on any of that‚ but it’s happening and will bring changes and consequences. Only time will tell how much of Milei’s proposals will come true and how much his victory will affect the political scenario everywhere. Is it possible his win can inspire the resurgence of conservative candidates and defeat of leftist candidates in upcoming elections everywhere‚ notably in the US and Brazil? Hard to predict. But it remains a fact that some people in power can be better than others on net balance. Javier Milei may just be one of those politicians. I’ll keep my praises for now. Once bitten‚ twice shy. But at the same time‚ I hope he can do a good job and help the people of Argentina‚ and maybe give a positive example to the rest of the world while at that. Well done‚ Argentina! 30-Million-Year-Old Whale Ancestor Sheds Light On Early Evolution Of Echolocation

The use of echolocation is one of the defining characteristics of toothed whales and dolphins‚ allowing them to navigate‚ communicate‚ and hunt in their underwater home. Now‚ a new study has provided fresh insight into how these creatures evolved to get their “built-in sonar”.To find out more about how dolphins and whales developed the ability to emit and locate high-pitched sounds‚ researchers analyzed a large collection of Xenorophidae fossils‚ an extinct family of animals belonging to the same group as all living echolocating whales and dolphins‚ Odontoceti.Within this collection‚ they found two ancient species belonging to the genus Xenorophus‚ including a species entirely new to science. Creatures in this genus lived in the waters surrounding eastern North America around 25 to 30 million years ago‚ and whilst they had more molar-like teeth‚ they otherwise resembled modern dolphins from the outside. At around 3 meters (10 feet) long‚ they were about the same length as some common bottlenose dolphins. The clues to the evolution of echolocation also lay in similarities between these ancient odontocetes and their modern relatives – primarily‚ in the structures of their jaws and around their blowholes. Similar to living toothed whales and dolphins‚ Xenorophus were found to have asymmetry in the skull near the blowhole; this “lopsidedness” is what allows their descendants to produce high-pitched sounds.  The researchers also discovered that Xenorophus had a distinct snout bend‚ with the snout shifted and twisted several degrees to the left. Previous studies have suggested that this could have affected the placement of fat in the lower jaw. This structure in modern whales and dolphins helps to conduct sound waves to the internal ear‚ in a way that they can locate where sound is coming from – aka directional hearing.Though Xenorophus was found to have less pronounced asymmetry near the blowhole – which suggests it may not have been as good as living whales and dolphins at producing and hearing high-pitched sounds – the researchers believe the snout structure demonstrates the 30-million-year-old creatures as a key transition point in the evolution of echolocation. The skull of a Xenorophus.Image credit: Boessenecker and Geisler‚ Diversity 2023 (CC BY 4.0)“While this asymmetry is seen in other ancient whales‚ Xenorophus displays the strongest of any whale‚ dolphin‚ or porpoise‚ living or extinct‚” said first author Robert Boessenecker in a statement. “In addition‚ although the blowhole-focused asymmetry in today’s odontocetes can be traced back to Xenorophus and other relatives‚ the twisting and shifting of the snout is no longer seen today. This suggests that Xenorophus is a crucial puzzle piece in understanding how whales and dolphins evolved their echolocation abilities.”The researchers also believe the study demonstrates that scientists should not dismiss the importance of asymmetry. “Biological symmetry‚ or the mirror-imaging of body parts across anatomical planes‚ is a major feature in the evolutionary history of animals and humans‚” said co-author Jonathan Geisler.“However‚ our research shows the important role of asymmetry in adapting to different environments‚ and that asymmetry should be closely investigated in fossils‚ instead of being dismissed as individual variation or assumed to be caused by geological distortion.”True to their word‚ the team are planning to look for the snout bend in other odontocetes‚ in hopes of determining if the feature was widespread. The study is published in Diversity.

Earth's Global Temperature Surpasses Critical 2°C Mark‚ Setting A New Record

Earth's Global Temperature Surpasses Critical 2°C Mark‚ Setting A New Record

Late last week‚ global temperatures briefly passed a benchmark that climate scientists have been dreading. Provisional data suggests the mean global temperature likely crossed a critical threshold of 2°C (3.6°F) above pre-industrial levels last Friday for the first time in recorded history.“Provisional ERA5 global temperature for 17th November from @CopernicusECMWF was 1.17°C above 1991-2020 – the warmest on record‚” Dr Sam Burgess‚ the deputy director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service‚ posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday."Our best estimate is that this was the first day when global temperature was more than 2°C above 1850-1900 (or pre-industrial) levels‚ at 2.06°C‚" she said.Dr Burgess added that provisional data for Saturday‚ November 18 showed the global average temperatures were 2.06°C above preindustrial levels.                IFLScience is not responsible for content shared from external sites. There’s a lot of evidence that if Earth stays consistently over 2°C (3.6°F) above pre-industrial levels‚ it will dramatically impact the environment and its inhabitants (including us). In a “2°C world‚” it is almost certainly game over for over 99 percent of the world’s coral reefs. We’re also likely to see significantly more declines in insects‚ 16 percent of plants‚ and 8 percent of vertebrates‚ compared to just 1.5°C (2.7°F) of warming. It could also lead several hundred million people into climate-related poverty. The 2°C threshold was a central tenet of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015 when international leaders agreed to keep global warming “well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels” with the hopes to limit this to just 1.5°C. Once again‚ this is only provisional data and the global average temperature only broke the threshold for a day. To fully gauge the impact of climate change‚ we need to think in terms of years‚ decades‚ and long-term trends‚ not odd days here and there. That said‚ some are seeing these record figures as an important benchmark – and far from a one-off.This year has repeatedly seen record-smashing temperatures. The world’s hottest day since records began was seen on July 3‚ 2023‚ but it was quickly beaten by temperatures on July 4‚ which was almost 1°C (1.8°F) higher than the 1979-2000 average. These single days are riding part of a bigger trend. Scientists have forecasted that 2023 is likely to see the hottest global surface temperatures in recorded history. Moreover‚ there's a good chance we'll see record-smashing temperatures in 2024 too if current trajectories are anything to go by.Climate scientists and activists often talk of “keeping 1.5°C alive‚” expressing hope that the world can take enough action to stay well below the 2°C threshold. While this weekend’s high global temperatures don’t mean that dream is dead‚ it should provide a worrying wake-up call to where we might be heading.

Long-Lost Monastery And Home Of Earliest Written Scots Gaelic Found After 1‚000 Years

Archaeologists believe they have located the site of the long-lost Monastery of Deer in Northeast Scotland. The site is not only significant in its own right but is also important for the history of Scots Gaelic. It is thought that the earliest examples of this form of Celtic language were produced at this monastery in the 11th and 12th centuries CE. These texts were Gaelic land grants‚ which were subsequently placed in the Book of Deer‚ a pocket gospel book that was originally written between 850 and 1000 CE.For a long time‚ academics have speculated that these entries – which represent possession of land – were added to the book when it was in the monastery. Now‚ archaeologists believe they have found the building’s remains around 80 meters (262.5 feet) from the ruins of Deer Abbey‚ close to the village of Mintlaw in Aberdeenshire.“As home to the earliest surviving Scots Gaelic‚ the Book of Deer is a vital manuscript in Scottish history‚” Alice Jaspars‚ PhD researcher from the Archaeology department at the University of Southampton who co-led the archaeological investigations‚ said in a statement.“It is now our belief that in our 2022 excavation‚ we found the lost monastery where these were written.”The Book of Deer in all its ancient splendor.Image courtesy of Midas MediaJaspars and colleagues carbon-dated material associated with the post holes they found during their excavations near the abbey‚ which match the time when the land grants‚ known as “addenda”‚ were added to the book. The team also recovered medieval pottery‚ fragments of glass‚ a stylus (implement used for writing)‚ and hnefatafl boards (sometimes referred to as Viking chess). All this evidence‚ the team argues‚ points to a monastic complex at this site.Investigations have been carried out here since 2009‚ with the help of the Book of Deer Project. Jaspar’s and her colleagues' work since 2022 has largely been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by a group of volunteers.“This would not have been possible without the extensive work of our volunteers‚ and the financial backing of the National Lottery Heritage Fund”‚ Japsars added. The 2022 research coincided with the Book of Deer’s return to the Scottish highlands for the first time in 1‚000 years. During this time‚ it was displayed in Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums while on loan from Cambridge University Library. “The material record of monasteries from this period is so poor that finds such as these can really help to inform our overall academic understanding. This also adds to the ongoing discussion regarding where the Book of Deer is cared for in the future‚” said Jaspars. The team plan to publish their results in an academic journal in the near future.

White UFO causes airport closure in Manipur‚ India

A spherical‚ white unidentified flying object (UFO) recently led to the temporary shutdown of an airport in Manipur‚ India. The Indian Air Force scrambled two Rafale fighter jets after getting information about the sighting of an ‘unidentified flying object’ (UFO) near Imphal airport in Manipur on Sunday. The Rafales‚ launched from Hasimara air base‚ could not spot anything‚ top sources told India Today. The first aircraft returned to the base and the second was deployed towards the area to check again‚ but it could not ascertain anything. The Eastern Command of the Indian Air Force said that it had activated its Air Defence response mechanism. “IAF activated its Air Defence response mechanism based on visual inputs from Imphal airport. The small object was not seen thereafter‚” it tweeted on Sunday. “The UFO was visible with bare eyes moving westwards of the airfield till 4 pm‚” a CISF official said. Flight operations at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Manipur’s Imphal were halted for several hours after an unidentified flying object was sighted above the airport. The diverted flights included an IndiGo flight from Kolkata which was initially instructed ‘to hold overhead’. It was diverted to Guwahati after 25 minutes. The delayed flights left Imphal airport after receiving clearance after around three hours. The Indian Air Force Eastern Command at Shillong was also informed of the development. Alien-dinosaurs may exist on other planets‚ say scientists

Scientists propose an intriguing possibility: dinosaurs‚ extinct for over 65 million years‚ might still thrive as extraterrestrial beings on distant planets. Research published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society indicates the potential existence of dinosaurs beyond our planet and hints at our ability to encounter them. The study proposes that exploring compounds not present on present-day Earth‚ but existing during the dinosaur era‚ could yield significant revelations. One pivotal factor that scientists identify as crucial in this groundbreaking quest is oxygen. While Earth’s current oxygen levels stand at around 21 percent‚ during the dinosaur era‚ it reached 30 percent. This higher oxygen concentration theoretically facilitated the dominance and longevity of dinosaurs on our planet. The study speculates that if distant planets harbor similar oxygen levels‚ conditions might be conducive for the existence of alien-like dinosaurs in those environments. The study’s co-author Lisa Kaltenegger said in a statement: “Modern Earth’s light fingerprint has been our template for identifying potentially habitable planets‚ but there was a time when this fingerprint was even more pronounced — better at showing signs of life.” She adds: “This gives us hope that it might be just a little bit easier to find signs of life — even large‚ complex life — elsewhere in the cosmos.” One clue that could unlock this discovery which scientists are looking for are signs of a Phanerozoic stage on a planet which would allow creatures like dinosaurs to evolve. The study’s lead author‚ Rebecca Payne of Cornell University‚ said: “The Phanerozoic is just the most recent 12 per cent or so of Earth’s history‚ but it encompasses nearly all of the time in which life was more complex than microbes and sponges. These light fingerprints are what you’d search for elsewhere if you were looking for something more advanced than a single-celled organism.” If they are successful in finding these conditions on other planets then Kaltenegger believes it could lead to the discovery of dinosaurs that have never been found on Earth. “Hopefully we’ll find some planets that happen to have more oxygen than Earth right now because that will make the search for life just a little bit easier‚” she said. “And‚ who knows‚ maybe there are other dinosaurs waiting to be found.” The post Alien-dinosaurs may exist on other planets‚ say scientists appeared first on Anomalien.com.
