Zohran’s Warmth of Collectivism: Residents Shovel for $$$

Commie Mamdani is encouraging the entire community to become snow shovelers as long as they have their paperwork, of course. It is the “warmth of collectivism” that he told us about. If you want snow removal, join the collective and start shoveling. It’s the socialist way. Actually, what he is doing is making sure the […] The post Zohran’s Warmth of Collectivism: Residents Shovel for $$$ appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

They Said Abortion Was The Only Option — Here’s What They Left Out

Welcome to Upstream, The Daily Wire’s new home for culture and lifestyle. Real human insight and human stories — from our featured writers to you. *** Pro-abortion advocates speak often about women’s health and “rights.” At the darkest moment of my life, however, they offered me nothing more than a pill and the lie that my impending abortion would be “just like having a period.” Years later, after grieving my lost child and overcoming the trauma of abortion, I am appalled that activists market abortion drugs as “safe,” and “empowering.” I am also shocked that these drugs are available via mail order, which leaves women to suffer alone or to experience forced abortions at the hands of abusers. My experience with abortion drugs opened my eyes to the fact that they endanger women’s health, safety, and happiness. Truly empowering women means ensuring that they are fully informed before they decide about something that could negatively change their lives. In 2018, I discovered I was unexpectedly pregnant. I already had a son and was not yet married to my then-boyfriend, Lane. Lane thought abortion was our only option. Fearing I could lose the first good relationship I’d been in, I decided to pursue abortion to appease him. Lane and I ventured to Planned Parenthood, where we rejected the offer to see our baby on the ultrasound screen. The nurse seemed to realize my discomfort and suggested that I take a few weeks to think through the decision since I was still so early in my pregnancy. Secretly hoping Lane would change his mind, I agreed to take the time. Yet after two weeks passed, Lane was still sure abortion was our only choice. Leading up to the abortion, I was terrified. I shook uncontrollably and had an awful feeling about what it entailed. When we arrived at Planned Parenthood, staff told me that I could take the chemical abortion pill, that it would just be like a heavy period, and that everything would be fine. They did not warn me about any long-term physical or emotional effects. I should have listened to my gut — especially after hearing the grief of the couple in the hospital room next to Lane and me, where another young woman sobbed while her partner told her it was the only choice they had. My heart breaks for her to this day. When the doctor arrived to check in on Lane and me, I asked him again if he was sure this was what we wanted to do. Rather than seeing that I was feeling pressured into this major decision, the doctor expressed annoyance while telling me to take it or leave it. I took it. Afterward, I went to the pharmacy to pick up the next set of pills. I’ll never forget the pharmacist’s face — his unmistakably sad expression and our mutual knowledge that he could not interfere with what I was about to do. When I got home, I became drowsy and kept waking up to intense and extremely painful cramps. Because I’d had a baby before, I realized with shock that my body was not just having a “normal period,” but that the pills I’d naively swallowed were preparing my body for labor. After intense pain and bleeding, I ran to the bathroom. I felt something pass. There, in the toilet, was my baby. I was in a state of shock. Nobody had prepared me for any of this. I didn’t know what to do, so I simply cleaned myself up and got back in bed. The next week, shock turned to extreme grief. The next month, I felt guilt. Then followed years of mingled guilt, grief, and suffering. At times, I felt like I had genuinely lost my mind — an emotional reaction I have since learned was due to my abortion. In all that time, Planned Parenthood never once reached out to check on me and Lane. Lane and I slowly picked up the pieces of our relationship and lives and tried to heal. We both struggled to forgive ourselves. Through God’s grace and forgiveness, however, we were more vulnerable with each other and began rediscovering our faith. Through prayer and communication, Lane and I slowly learned that what we thought would be forever was just a temporary suffering that opened our eyes to the horrors of abortion drugs. Today, we hope to turn the tragedy of our story into hope for others who might be struggling. To those who may find themselves in our shoes, I encourage you to trust your gut and to make sure you are fully informed before agreeing to a permanent decision that could leave you with painful scars while robbing you of your unborn child. I urge any woman to look at the ultrasound before making a permanent decision. We wish with our whole hearts that we would have. I hope you also know that you don’t have to grieve or undergo this suffering alone. Across the country, a network of nearly 3,000 pregnancy resource centers strives daily to meet the material, financial, emotional, and even professional or educational needs of women and children in need. These organizations provide hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of lifesaving support that offers women alternatives to abortions they do not need and often do not want. Not only that, but they exist to offer hope and healing to women who have experienced abortion, like me. And unlike those pushing abortion drugs without informed consent, these wonderful people will do everything they can to make you feel known, supported, and loved. *** McKenzie Kaupa-Thiesse is a wife, mother, and fighter for the unborn. Americans In The Dark As Historic Winter Storm Rages — When Will It End?

Hundreds of thousands in the Northeastern United States and the Mid-Atlantic were without power on Monday morning after some areas were hammered by more than a foot of snow, with even more expected.  Around 146,000 customers were without power in Massachusetts, 122,820 in New Jersey, 71,471 in Delaware, and 18,386 in New York, according to PowerOutage.us. The storm prompted local travel bans, school closures, and the cancellation of thousands of flights.  Snow fall is expected to taper off beginning Monday afternoon and evening before the storm leaves New England Monday night. As of Monday morning, tens of millions of people were still under a blizzard warning. The National Weather Service predicted that the Northeast and New England would continue to experience “very heavy snowfall rates” on Monday, with snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour and wind gusts of 40 to 70 mph.  “By tomorrow morning, some areas near the coastline could wake up to storm total snowfall amounts of one to two feet as the low departs into the Canadian Maritimes. For today, however, the very high snowfall rates and potentially damaging wind gusts will make travel nearly impossible from the DelMarVa Peninsula into southeastern New England,” the National Weather Service said.  The NWS added that another storm system out of the Upper Great Lakes could bring additional snow to parts of the Northeast later this week.  Hundreds of flights at New York’s LaGuardia and JFK International, Boston’s Logan International, and Newark’s Liberty International were cancelled amid the storm. As of early Monday morning, snow totals were well over a foot in the New York City area, including Islip (22.5 inches), Upton (18.3 inches), Central Park (15.1 inches), LaGuardia airport (15.1 inches), JFK airport (15 inches), and Newark (18.3 inches).  New York snowplow driver John Brown told The New York Times that the roads would not stay clear.   “I’ve never seen something like this,” he said. “As you plow an hour later you come back it looks like you were never there.” Credit: Photographer: Victor J. Blue/Bloomberg via Getty Images. New York City Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued an emergency declaration on Monday, closing schools and imposing a ban on car travel within the city for non-emergency, non-essential purposes. Exceptions are for vehicles “providing emergency services, public transportation, medical supplies, food, fuel, utility repairs and other critical services.” Rhode Island also implemented a statewide travel ban on non-essential vehicle travel.  Governors across the Northeast have declared emergencies over the storm, including in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

Top Medical Group’s Inconsistent Policy On Child Sex-Changes May Be Illegal, Alabama AG Says

Alabama Attorney General Stephen Marshall is leading a coalition of 20 states demanding the American Medical Association halt its support of hormonal therapies as treatment for gender dysphoria in children, after the organization withdrew support for child sex-rejecting surgeries. “We thus find it concerning that the AMA continues to support the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to treat gender dysphoria in minors,” the attorneys general wrote in a letter to AMA President John Whyte. “The quality of evidence is the same as it is for surgeries: low and very-low quality.” “The American Medical Association has finally admitted what many have warned for years: its recommendations for surgeries on children were not grounded in solid evidence, despite telling doctors and families otherwise,” Attorney General Marshall told The Daily Wire. “Yet the same weak science underpins puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. You cannot dismiss one intervention as unsupported while continuing to push the rest. When children’s lives and futures are at stake, anything less than full scientific honesty is reckless. The AMA must follow the science completely, not selectively.” Marshall warned the AMA’s inconsistencies could be misleading the public and violate Alabama’s consumer protection laws, which state it is unlawful for an organization to represent that “goods or services” have “uses, benefits, or qualities that they do not have,” according to the letter.  “We remain concerned that providers, patients, and their families in our States are being confused or misled by the AMA regarding the safety and efficacy of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to treat gender dysphoria in minors,” the letter says. To avoid a “formal investigation” Marshall asked the AMA to answer a series of questions meant to clarify its position on the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones as treatment for pediatric gender dysphoria, within 30 days.   “While we hope to avoid a formal investigation under our consumer protection laws, we do have concerns that the AMA may be violating those laws,” the letter says. The AMA recently told the New York Times and other news outlets that “surgical interventions in minors should be generally deferred to adulthood” due to the absence of “clear evidence” supporting their use.  “If you agree that there is insufficient evidence to support using surgical interventions to treat gender dysphoria in minors — as your recent statement indicates — we do not understand how you can find that there is sufficient evidence to support using hormonal interventions to treat gender dysphoria in minors,” Marshall writes in the letter.   “These interventions have not been shown to be any safer for children than sex-change surgeries are, and in fact may be all the more dangerous precisely because they are viewed as not as serious. But hormones can leave a child sterilized just as surely as surgery can,” the letter states.  The AMA’s turnabout came shortly after the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) published a February 3 position statement recommending “surgeons delay gender-related breast/chest, genital, and facial surgery until a patient is at least 19 years old,” after reviewing available evidence. The ASPS also pointed out in the statement there is “substantial uncertainty” of the “long-term benefits and harms” of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.  Marshall successfully defended Alabama’s law banning sex-rejecting procedures for minors during Boe v. Marshall and through litigation discovered hundreds of pages of documents revealing the political forces informing transgender medicine. This included emails showing former Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services Richard “Rachel” Levine controversially pressured the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) into removing gender surgery age minimums from its clinical guidance, called the Standards of Care Version 8. WPATH’s clinical guideline, which recommends children receive puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries, has been discredited and heavily criticized for lacking scientific rigor. A 2025 report from the Department of Health and Human Services on the treatment of pediatric gender dysphoria said the WPATH guidelines were “rated among the lowest in quality” and “have not been recommended for implementation by systematic reviews (SRs) of guidelines.”  “Despite their lack of trustworthiness, for more than a decade WPATH guidelines have served as the foundation of the healthcare infrastructure for gender dysphoric (GD) youth in the United States,” states the report.  Marshall views the AMA’s recognition of a lack of evidence to support child sex-change surgeries as a “tacit acknowledgement” that WPATH’s standards are not “evidence-based,” according to the letter.  The letter asks the AMA if it views the WPATH guidelines as “evidence-based, reliable, and consistent with the best practices of evidence- based medicine.” The letter was signed by attorneys general from Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. “We know that we share a common goal in wanting to protect patients and their families and ensure that they receive trustworthy information about their medical care,” the letter reads. The AMA did not immediately respond to The Daily Wire’s request for comment.

Labor Secretary’s Husband BARRED After Criminal Investigation…

A criminal investigation by DC Metropolitan Police into sexual assault allegations against the husband of Trump’s Labor Secretary has exposed serious questions about workplace safety and vetting protocols at the highest levels of the administration. Criminal Investigation Launched After Staff Complaints DC Metropolitan Police initiated a criminal investigation into Dr. Shawn DeRemer after Department of Labor employees filed sexual assault complaints against the Labor Secretary’s husband. The allegations prompted immediate action from department officials, who barred Dr. DeRemer from entering Labor Department headquarters while investigators examined the claims. Multiple staffers came forward with accounts of inappropriate conduct, triggering both criminal and administrative reviews. The swift response reflected the seriousness of allegations involving potential criminal behavior within a federal agency. Security Protocols and Access Questions Emerge The incident exposed troubling questions about how spouses of high-ranking officials gain access to federal workspaces and interact with career employees. Dr. DeRemer’s presence at Labor Department facilities raised concerns about appropriate boundaries between personal relationships and official government operations. The Inspector General’s review specifically examined security protocols governing access for non-employees, particularly family members of political appointees. This situation highlights a recurring problem in federal agencies where informal access arrangements can create vulnerabilities for staff members who lack recourse when feeling uncomfortable or unsafe around connected individuals. Prosecutorial Decision and Ongoing Administrative Review Federal prosecutors declined to pursue criminal charges against Dr. DeRemer following their investigation, though specific reasons for this decision were not publicly disclosed. The absence of charges does not necessarily invalidate the staffers’ concerns or experiences, but rather reflects prosecutorial judgment about evidence sufficiency and legal standards for criminal cases. Meanwhile, the Labor Department’s Inspector General continued administrative investigations into the allegations and broader questions about workplace safety protocols. These parallel tracks—criminal and administrative—serve different purposes, with administrative reviews focused on policy compliance and employee protection rather than criminal culpability. Secretary Chavez-DeRemer faces scrutiny over how her department handles such sensitive matters, particularly given the power dynamics involved when allegations concern a Cabinet secretary’s family member. The situation tests the Trump administration’s commitment to protecting federal workers while maintaining appropriate boundaries between political leadership and career staff. Conservative voters who supported draining the swamp and restoring accountability in government expect thorough investigations and appropriate consequences when federal employees face misconduct, regardless of the perpetrator’s connections. This incident underscores the importance of clear protocols that protect workers from abuse while ensuring due process for accused individuals.
