Eight missing children were safely recovered last week during a multi-agency operation led by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and state officials in Arkansas.  Operation HOPE Arkansas began on August 18 and brought together HHS, Arkansas State Police, the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Children and Family Services, and other law enforcement and child-welfare partners. The operation began with four reported cases of missing foster children in Arkansas, with officials recovering three of them on the operation’s first day. Investigators responded to six additional cases that emerged during the four-day effort.  In total, the operation involved 10 missing children, eight of whom were safely recovered or located, including two Colorado foster children found in Arkansas. The cases involved children missing from foster and residential placements, an alleged child abduction, and cases showing indicators of possible human trafficking. Authorities are continuing to search for two Arkansas foster children who remain missing. “Every missing child case demands an immediate, coordinated response,” Arkansas Human Trafficking Coordinator Sgt. Matt Foster said. “Operation HOPE brought together the expertise and resources of law enforcement, child welfare professionals, and federal partners to locate vulnerable children, investigate the circumstances surrounding their disappearance, and ensure they receive the support they need once they are found.” Operation HOPE was first launched in Mississippi in May during which officials recovered 13 of the 15 missing children they were searching for. The operation’s success in May prompted HHS officials to expand the initiative nationwide, making Arkansas the program’s second target. “Every child in foster care deserves protection, so when they go missing, it is our utmost responsibility to bring them home,” Administration for Children and Families Assistant Secretary Alex J. Adams said. “When the Trump administration launched Operation Hope in May, we promised to replicate its success across the nation. We are proud to have done so with Arkansas, and we will keep working until every child in the nation is accounted for and safe.” The operation builds on Arkansas’ VALOR initiative, a statewide coalition created in January 2024 to improve the response to missing and endangered children. At the time, Arkansas had between 40 and 50 foster children reported missing. Following Operation HOPE, the HHS Administration for Children and Families says that number has fallen to just two missing children. Operation HOPE is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to support children in foster care. In April, Secretary Kennedy announced that his department would prioritize early intervention for parents battling addiction rather than waiting until families reach a crisis point. “Too often, government intervenes after addiction has already pushed a family into crisis, and a child is at risk of entering foster care,” Kennedy said. “We want to intervene before that happens.” First lady Melania Trump has also spearheaded the administration’s effort through her Fostering the Future initiative, which seeks to expand housing assistance, educational scholarships, and financial literacy programs. Shortly before Trump Accounts launched on July 4, 2026, the first lady partnered with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to allow state and tribal child welfare agencies to open and manage accounts for eligible foster children, ensuring they can get Trump Accounts even without a parent or guardian available to enroll them.

WASHINGTON — Just days after a man was sentenced for planning to kill Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, authorities arrested another suspect near the U.S. Capitol — a man with a guillotine in the back of his truck. Thirty-five-year-old Philan-Tam-Duy Le of Julian, California, had illegally parked his car along the 100 block of East Capitol Street, near the U.S. Supreme Court and the Capitol building. The U.S. Capitol Police said that they seized a guillotine spotted in the bed of his pickup truck on Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m. after they noticed his car was illegally parked. The suspect drove from California to Washington, D.C., and was arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon, according to the department. “USCP investigators are going through the suspect’s background to learn more about why he came to Washington, DC,” Capitol Police said in a statement. Photos provided by the police show a tall, apparently life-sized, guillotine sitting in the back of a black pickup truck. A family member told The Los Angeles Times that he recognized the truck as his brother’s vehicle.       The Secret Service told The Daily Wire that it is not involved in investigating the matter, and Capitol Police said they do not yet know the suspect’s motive. The suspect’s brother told the Los Angeles Times that the guillotine was probably a “symbol of disapproval” and that Le was generally happy about the state of American politics and disliked both Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom. The suspect’s brother, Kelvin Le, described his brother as a free spirit who funded his travels around the country by working as a tattoo artist and doing piercings. Le is one of several individuals who have been arrested after traveling across the country with a dangerous weapon. Last week, 25-year-old Ryan Michael English (who goes by Reily or Raleigh Jane English) of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, was sentenced to 73 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release for plotting to kill Bessent, according to the Justice Department. English identified as a transgender woman and is one of a number of trans-identifying attempted assassins who have made headlines in recent years. Nicholas Roske, the man who attempted to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh (another individual who identifies as a transgender woman), traveled from California to the D.C. area to kill the justice. According to prosecutors, Roske sought to keep Roe v. Wade from being overturned. The Supreme Court did not immediately respond to a request for comment for this story. In October 2025, police arrested a man who had hundreds of explosive devices with him outside a Mass in honor of the Supreme Court at St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C. He had a manifesto indicating he was targeting the Supreme Court and Catholics, according to court papers obtained by The Daily Wire. The manifesto “revealed his significant animosity towards the Catholic church, members of the Jewish faith, members of SCOTUS and ICE/ ICE facilities,” police said.

Colombia is ushering in a new era of conservative immigration policies after its citizens elected a Right-wing president to replace the country’s previous far-Left leader. Newly elected Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella said Sunday that he would commence immigration raids across the country as early as this week, according to the Associated Press. The conservative Latin American leader, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, said national immigration authorities, with the help of the Colombian police, will begin the operation by targeting illegal immigrants who are “committing crimes” before nabbing those who lack immigration status, according to the AP. “I will not accept any illegal immigrants, wherever they come from,” de la Espriella said in a video. “They will have to leave and be deported. It is a political decision I am taking responsibility for.” The majority of migrants living in Colombia hail from neighboring Venezuela, according to the AP. Roughly 2.8 million Venezuelan nationals were living in Colombia as of August. In 2021, Colombia granted temporary residence permits to roughly 2.3 million Venezuelan migrants, the AP reported. But it appears the new president is looking to turn the tide on the country’s years-long policy of amnesty. Upon de la Espriella’s election, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he “looks forward to working closely” with the new president to “end illegal immigration to the United States,” among other initiatives. In recent months, several Latin American countries, including Honduras, Costa Rica, Chile, Bolivia, and Ecuador, have elected Right-wing leaders. At one point, Colombia’s previous leftist president, Gustavo Petro, temporarily refused to accept deportation flights from the United States. The move led to icy relations with Washington before Petro ultimately caved after Trump threatened new tariffs. “The U.S. cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals,” Petro said upon denying the arrival of the planes. De la Espriella, who was sworn in three weeks ago, has signaled that he will usher in a new era of warm relations with the United States.
