Top State Election Officials Urge Congress To Protect Elections From Non-Citizen Voting

A coalition of top state election officials led by Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson urged congressional Republicans to require federal election officials to mandate stronger citizenship protections for voter registration, according to a letter obtained by The Daily Wire.  Watson and ten other GOP secretaries of state urged Republican leadership in the Senate and House to pass legislation requiring the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to change the current federal voter registration form to demand proof of citizenship rather than relying on an applicant’s word. The Republican officials said that the federal form made it more difficult to ensure that only American citizens were voting in elections.  “Each state requires that to vote, a person must be a U.S. citizen. Unfortunately, the EAC has consistently refused to change the form to require proof of citizenship, preferring a general attestation instead,” Watson wrote on Monday. “As our states’ chief election officials, we respectfully seek your help in fixing this persistent problem.” The letter was addressed to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-ND), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Rules Committee Chair Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Administration Chair Bryan Steil (R-WI).  The letter asked them to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require applicants to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote. The measure has been opposed by Democrats.  The current voter registration form posted by the EAC requires an applicant to check a box as proof of citizenship.  For the past two decades, state election officials have asked for the EAC to update its form to require documentary proof of citizenship, but have so far been rebuffed, the letter said.  “The EAC’s refusal to change the Federal Form instructions has forced election administrators to process and approve voter registration applications which do not themselves satisfy the requirements laid out in state law,” the officials wrote.  Watson said that the process of making state officials verify applicants’ proof of citizenship was costly and time-consuming.  “Each paper form requires our election officials to make individualized inquiries into state records and consult with other state databases to process them and determine citizenship,” he wrote. “In Mississippi, these checks can require up to roughly an hour of an employee’s time, depending on how far into the required state process a check must go. This is an enormous aggregate expense both in employee time and tax dollars.” Join us now during our exclusive Deal of the Decade. Get everything for $7 a month. Not as fans. As fighters. They requested that lawmakers revise federal law to require proof of citizenship on the form provided by the EAC and to hold oversight hearings examining the EAC’s opposition to stricter citizenship safeguards.  Election integrity groups like the Honest Elections Project have joined in the calls for documentary proof of citizenship for elections.  “Requiring proof of citizenship is common sense, routine, and hugely popular,” Honest Elections Project Executive Director Jason Snead told The Daily Wire. “The time has come for the EAC to affirm laws that keep noncitizens from voting, not undercut them.”

Grandmother Becomes Oldest Woman Ever To Complete Ironman World Championship

If you’ve ever worried that it’s too late to achieve a goal in life, may we introduce you to Natalie Grabow. The 80-year-old grandmother from New Jersey became the oldest woman in history to complete the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, on October 12. The infamously grueling race includes a full 26.2-mile marathon, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 2.4-mile swim. Ironman shared a video of Natalie’s finish, and it’s nothing short of remarkable. “Age is just a number at the IRONMAN World Championship,” the caption reads. “Natalie Grabow, you’ve conquered Kona at 80 yrs young and showed everyone that you can bounce back SO strong even after a fall we’re honored to celebrate you.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by IRONMAN Triathlon (@ironmantri) Natalie Grabow Has An Incredible Origin Story According to NPR, Natalie didn’t learn how to swim until she was 59 years old. But in order to achieve big fitness goals, she had to learn. “It was a big hurdle I had to overcome,” she shared in an email to NPR, “in order to do a triathlon.” At 80 years old, Natalie finished the Ironman in 16:45:26, nearly 15 minutes before the 17-hour cutoff. The same day, more than 60 of the 1,600 athletes who began the race did not finish. “I am so happy and grateful that I can still race in this sport at my age,” she said. “Triathlon allows me to feel strong both mentally and physically, and it satisfies my competitive spirit.” Natalie Grabow’s performance astonished people. “The definition of ‘if you don’t use it, you lose it.’ To do Kona at aged 80 would be the result of unwavering discipline and a lifetime of movement,” a fan share in the Instagram comment section. “Simply outstanding! “I literally can’t stop watching this. I’m beyond impressed, hopeful and inspired by this woman,” another person shared. Natalie Grabow is a true inspiration. This story’s featured image is by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images for IRONMAN. The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2 Officially in Development at Netflix With New Directors

News The Mitchells vs. the Machines The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2 Officially in Development at Netflix With New Directors Will the Mitchells get to battle something other than machines? By Matthew Byrd | Published on October 22, 2025 Photo: Netflix Comment 0 Share New Share Photo: Netflix Variety reports that The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2 is officially in development with Netflix set to distribute the Sony Pictures project. The details of that arrangement are indeed a bit odd. Due to distribution issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony Pictures sold the distribution rights to 2021’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines to Netflix. Ultimately, Netflix decided to give the film a limited theatrical release before bringing the movie to its streaming service. While we can assume that the sequel will follow a similar distribution model, it’s worth noting that Netflix has been getting a bit more generous with their theatrical releases and may have learned a valuable lesson from the success of KPop Demon Hunters‘ limited theatrical releases. Given how popular The Mitchells vs. the Machines ended up being, it’s possible that this sequel could end up enjoying at least a slightly longer theatrical run. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time. What we do know is that Guillermo Martinez (head of story for The Mitchells vs. the Machines) and JP Sans (co-director of The Bad Guys 2) have signed on to direct this sequel. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are also returning to produce. No word yet on original director Mike Rianda’s involvement, though it’s likely that he will return in some capacity given that he voiced multiple characters in the first movie. That said, we really don’t know anything about the sequel’s plot, so it’s tough to say how much of the original cast will actually return. Even the sequel’s title is up in the air. It’s popularly being referred to as The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2, though the Mitchells seemingly scored a pretty decisive victory over the machines in the first movie. So either the machines return or the Mitchells will actually face off against a new threat this time around. We shall see. There’s no word yet regarding the sequel’s release date, so you have plenty of time to watch the original if you haven’t already done so. It’s really, really good. Until then, check out the movie’s trailer for a taste of how much fun it is to watch a barely functioning family become unlikely heroes. Atlanta City Council Chairmanship Race Raises Questions About ‘Changes in Policing’

A fierce campaign is underway for Atlanta City Council president in Georgia. The two contenders are Rohit Malhotra, a left-wing nonprofit executive, and City Council member Marci Collier Overstreet.  A debate in early October exposed the wide gap between Overstreet, who has served for several years on the City Council, and Malhotra, who has been described as “representing the more progressive wing of Atlanta politics.” “Mr. Rohit should really own up to the fact that he wants to defund or abolish the police department,” Overstreet said in a brittle exchange during the debate. “The words ‘defund the police’—which I have never said, actually—came after George Floyd was murdered, and people were asking for changes in policing,” Malhotra countered. “What does safety look like without always only talking about policing only? Policing is a part of a comprehensive strategy. It doesn’t have to be the only one, and to create a false binary is not only wrong, it’s dangerous,” the nonprofit executive contended. In August 2023, Malhotra signed onto a letter criticizing the process by which the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center had been constructed. The training center was designed to allow police officers, firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, and E-911 staff to train in a local area, according to the center’s website.  “There has also been copious disagreement about where, how, and—frankly—whether it should be built,” a portion of the letter reads. “Supporters and dissenters of these decisions—including Mayor Andre Dickens and several City Council members—agree on one thing: The city of Atlanta’s decision from the outset did not include sufficient, equitable, nor transparent public engagement,” the letter continues. Despite that strong sentiment more than two years ago, Malhotra now appears to have not much to say about where he stands on policing on his campaign website. What little he does say involves advocating for treating “gun violence as a public health crisis: invest in community-based violence interruption, diversion, and conflict mediation,” developing “data-driven metrics so we measure what actually produces safety (not just reactions),” and providing “support for families impacted by violence—mental health, funeral/therapy costs, ongoing local support.” Malhotra also calls for pilot programs “like universal basic income and baby bonds to build generational wealth.” The role Malhotra and Overstreet are seeking is more than just ceremonial. The president of the Atlanta City Council chairs meetings, casts tiebreaking votes, and appoints committee chairmen and members of committees for issues such as public safety and city utilities. He or she also serves as an interim mayor in the event that something happens to the elected mayor. Serving on the City Council can also be a steppingstone for a run for mayor of Atlanta. Malhotra is the founder and executive director—currently on a leave of absence—of the Center for Civic Innovation. The center discusses at length its emphasis on “equity” as a part of its work.  “We confront the systemic inequalities that have made Atlanta the most unequal city in the U.S., with an emphasis on race, income, gender, and geography,” the organization explains on its website under a section titled “Our Values.” According to tax filings published by ProPublica, Malhotra was paid $150,000 in fiscal year 2024 by the center, and the combined salaries and wages for Malhotra and his staff make up more than 63% of the nonprofit’s total expenses. He previously was an Ash Innovation Fellow in the Obama White House’s Office of Management and Budget. Malhotra went to school in Atlanta at Emory University and received a master’s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.  The election will be held on Nov. 4. The Daily Signal reached out to the campaigns of both Overstreet and Malhotra for comment.
