Speaking from the Oval Office in response to a reporter's question, President Trump said he's "not happy about certain aspects of it, but I'm thrilled by other aspects of it" and that the Senate would be nefotiating the bill. President Trump also touted the "beautiful" part of the budget bill -- which include expanding his tax cuts from 2017. What's your reaction to that? President Trump: Well, my reaction’s a lot of things. Number one, we have to get a lot of votes. We can't be cutting, you know— we need to get a lot of support, and we have a lot of support. We had to get it through the House. The House was— we have no Democrats. You know, if it's up to the Democrats, they'll take the 65% increase. You know, if that doesn't get approved, this country is going to have a 65% increase in taxes and lots of other problems, big problems, almost bigger than that, but we'll have a 65% increase, as opposed to the largest tax cut in the history of our country. We will be negotiating that bill, and I'm not happy about certain aspects of it, but I'm thrilled by other aspects of it. That's the way they go. It's very big; it's the big, beautiful bill. But the beautiful is because of all of the things we have, the biggest thing being, I would say, the level of tax cutting that we're going to be doing. We're going to make people really be able to— we'll have one of the lowest tax rates we've ever had in the history of our country, and tremendous amounts of benefit are going to the middle income people of our country, low and middle income people of our country. So, we're going to see what happens because the Senate, as you know, is negotiating with us, and they have to then go back to the House, and you know, it's got a way to go, but I have to say Speaker Johnson and Thune have done an incredible job. John Thune has done a fantastic job, and they're working together with me and others. And I think we have an amazing— if we pull this off, remember, we have zero Democrat votes because they're bad people. There's something wrong with them. You know, they'll let people pour into our country. The single biggest problem is we had 21 million people pour into our country, probably higher than that, and they're people that weren't supposed to be here, and many of those people are bad, murderers, drug dealers, the mentally insane. They were closing mental institutions all over the world, not South America, all over the world. They're coming into our country, and we're getting them out, but we're having a hard time because some judges aren't making it very easy for us, and it's tough enough. They approved that; they allowed that to happen to our country. We don't have one democrat vote. And if I were a Democrat, I'd be voting for this bill, and I'd get elected to any position I want as a Democrat. They're crazy. They're voting for a 65% tax increase, and they're only doing it for hatred. They're not doing it for any reason. They know it's terrible, terrible politics, in my opinion, but so we have no Democrat votes. That means we have to get almost all Republican votes, and I think we're very close to doing that. President Trump just announced a major win in his defamation lawsuit against the Pulitzer Prize Board. On Wednesday, a Florida appeals court sided with President Trump against the Board’s attempt to halt the case, allowing the lawsuit to go forward. The lawsuit centers around the Board awarding the (once) prestigious and coveted Pulitzer Prize to fake news outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post for malicious stories pushing the Russia Collusion narrative. Law and Crime has more details on the origins of the defamation suit: Trump sued the board for defamation in December 2022, after several months of legal demands and threats to file such a lawsuit. The nexus of the lawsuit is the 2018 award for National Reporting which was co-granted to The Washington Post and The New York Times for their reporting on the “Russiagate” scandal. During the 2016 U.S. presidential election, some Russian nationals interfered on Trump’s behalf — sparking a yearslong search for evidence that Trump’s campaign was engaged in a conspiracy with the Russian government. While special counsel Robert Mueller’s inquiries ultimately found no evidence of collusion with the Russian Federation, the two media companies were awarded for what the Pulitzer Prize board referred to as “deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect’s transition team and his eventual administration.” Unfortunately for the board, that was not all they said about the matter — ultimately responding publicly to Trump’s threats of litigation. In 2022, the board defended its award with a lengthy statement that stood by the outlets’ reporting. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently released a report calling out the potential dangers posed by titanium dioxide. Kennedy Jr., released a report last Thursday assessing chronic diseases, particularly those suffered by children. The report listed additives of potential concern, including titanium dioxide. It said the additive is “widely used in a range of candies and sauces [and] may cause cellular and DNA damage.” Titanium dioxide was banned in the EU in 2022 for “genotoxicity” — which is exactly what it sounds like. A federal judge in New York ruled the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) can access the Treasury Department’s sensitive data systems that manage trillions of dollars in federal payments. U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas initially blocked the team’s access in February. However, she lifted the restriction after the Trump administration indicated the DOGE representatives went through vetting, training and security clearance procedures. A group of Democratic attorneys general sued to block their access, and Vargas temporarily blocked their access in February but permitted DOGE to build a system to access the data with appropriate training and restrictions. In April, Vargas allowed one DOGE employee to begin accessing the system. In yesterday’s ruling, she said the Trump administration had established a system to train employees to prevent improper disclosures. Vargas is an appointee of former President Biden who serves in New York. “There is little utility in having this Court function as Treasury’s de facto human resources officer each time a new team member is onboarded,” Vargas wrote. DOGE’s efforts to implant itself at agencies across the federal bureaucracy has sparked a wave of litigation. Though some cases deal with efforts to dismantle certain agencies, many of the suits seek to block DOGE personnel from gaining access to sensitive government systems.
