FACT CHECK: Viral AI Post Falsely Claims That Eric Church Signed On To Perform Turning Point USA’s Alternate Super Bowl Halftime Show
Can we stop falling for these now?
Over the past couple years, we’ve seen a scary increase in the number of AI posts going viral, especially as the technology advances and the photos and videos get more realistic.
Obviously everybody should live by the adage that “you can’t believe everything you see on the internet,” but unfortunately we see time and time again these ridiculous posts go viral as people share them without doing an ounce of fact checking first.
It’s gotten so bad that artists are being forced to speak out more and more to dispel the rumors that are started by these posts. Recently there was a ridiculous AI photo of Reba and Dolly Parton going around after Dolly was forced to cancel some shows due to health problems, and after Dolly released a statement reassuring fans that she was fine, Reba chimed in blasting those who are behind the AI posts:
“You tell ’em, Dolly. That AI mess has got us doing all kinds of crazy things. You’re out here dying, I’m out here having a baby. Well, both of us know you’re too young and I’m too old for any of that kind of nonsense.”
Well another country star has found himself the center of one of these AI pages, and unfortunately it seems that too many people are falling for the posts.
A clearly-AI generated photo of Eric Church has recently gone viral along with a post claiming that Church has signed on to play the Turning Point USA alternate halftime show this year.
The halftime show, billed as the ‘All American Halftime Show,’ was announced by the conservative media organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk as an alternative to the official Super Bowl halftime show in 2026, which is set to feature Bad Bunny. But so far, no lineup has been announced (despite another fake viral post showing a lineup that included Kid Rock and Jason Aldean).
Unfortunately, the post claiming that Church will be participating in the halftime show has taken off on Facebook the past few days, racking up over 37,000 likes and being shared over 800 times, including several times in Church’s fan club groups.
The problem with that, of course, is that it’s total bulls–t.
Not only does the photo in the post look nothing like Church, but as I said before, no lineup for the halftime show has been announced and there’s been no indication from Church or his team that he would be a part of it.
I thought about reaching out directly to Church’s team for their reaction to the post, but I figured it would be a waste of everybody’s time because I already know what the reaction would be: It’s nonsense.
These days, though, too many people are falling for the nonsense online, which makes it even more important to check to make sure something’s real before sharing it. The page that shared this rumor seems to be focused on Eric Church, and shares all kinds of false garbage about him.
It just goes to show you the importance of doing your research before sharing something online. As AI gets more and more advanced, it’s only going to get harder to distinguish what’s real and what’s not.
