The proclamation opens the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument (PRIMNM) to commercial fishing, boosting the economy of American Samoa. It allows U.S.-flagged vessels to fish commercially within 50 to 200 nautical miles of the PRIMNM’s boundaries. EMPOWERING AMERICAN COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN: President Trump believes that removing unnecessary restrictions on American fishermen will strengthen the U.S. economy, support local communities, and restore fairness to an industry disadvantaged by overregulation and foreign competition. The PRIMNM was first established by President Bush in 2009 and then expanded by President Obama, closing off over 400,000 square miles of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone in the Pacific. The ban on commercial fishing within the PRIMNM did little to guard fish populations against overfishing, as tuna and other pelagic species are migratory in nature and do not permanently reside within the PRIMNM. As a result of the prohibitions on commercial fishing, American fishing fleets have lost access to nearly half of the United States’ Exclusive Economic Zone in the Pacific Islands. This has driven American fishermen to fish further offshore in international waters to compete against poorly regulated and highly subsidized foreign fleets, most notably from China. By supporting honest American fishermen, we combat the rampant illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing by foreign fleets. This disadvantages United States commercial fishermen and is detrimental for United States territories like American Samoa, whose private sector economy is dependent on the fishing industry. American Samoa is home to the only Buy American-compliant tuna processing facility for U.S. military rations and school lunch programs. This cannery is the largest employer on the island, providing about 5,000 jobs.  In fact, the cannery accounts for 99.5% of American Samoa’s exports and 84% of the private employment in the territory.

During the Sirius XM “The Megyn Kelly Show” podcast, Kelly pointed out that almost every former FDA commissioner has left the agency and gone into “Big Pharma,” which she said makes it harder to count on them to be honest about a drug’s impact. If convicted as charged, he would be eligible for the death penalty. “Mangione traveled across state lines via an interstate bus line for the purpose of stalking and killing Brian Thompson,” the indictment reads. Last week, Attorney General Pam Bondi had instructed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Mangione, who is already facing state murder charges in the case. A California man was arrested after allegedly kidnapping a 10-year-old child he reportedly met on the popular video game Roblox. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office in California reported that Matthew Macatuno Naval, 27, was arrested on multiple charges, including kidnapping and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. On Sunday, the parents of the child filed a police report that their child was missing. Upon investigation, detectives discovered Naval had communicated with the child through the video game Roblox. Authorities later discovered the child over 250 miles from her home in Taft and with Naval in Elk Grove. Naval has been booked and his bail has been set at $250,000. CNN is working to determine whether Naval has legal representation. Kern County deputies began on Sunday searching for the child, who is a young girl from Taft, California, according to CNN affiliate KOVR, after her family reported her missing, police said. Following information indicating the possibility that the missing minor was kidnapped, detectives said they uncovered the juvenile had been communicating with Naval via social media, and they were believed to be in the area of Elk Grove, California – more than 250 miles away. Kern County police notified authorities in Elk Grove, who found the child Sunday afternoon, the release said. Naval was arrested and booked in Sacramento County and later transferred to Kern County, where he is being held with bail set at $250,000, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. He has a court hearing set for Friday.
