The Humilation of Keir Starmer. Is This the End of the US-UK ‘Special Relationship’?

“Never be separated from the Americans.” That was the advice Winston Churchill gave to his countrymen in the last meeting with his cabinet in 1955. Unfortunately for the United Kingdom, current Prime Minister Keir Starmer has clearly ignored that advice. He appears to be doing his best to pull the plug and drain whatever is left of the once mighty and revered British Empire. On Tuesday, while at a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President Donald Trump lambasted Starmer’s response to America’s ongoing military operation in Iran. Trump said he was “not happy” with the U.K. for its initial decision to restrict U.S. access to launching strikes from the Diego Garcia base in the Chagos Islands. Trump said that blocking use of the base made it necessary for U.S. military aircraft to go on much longer and more difficult missions from elsewhere to conduct their strikes. He then went with the brutal putdown, “This is not Winston Churchill we are dealing with.” "This is not Winston Churchill we're dealing with"U.S. President Trump says he's "not happy" following Sir Keir Starmer's decision to not get involved in the U.S. offensivehttps://t.co/PAiZ4D1jU3? Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube pic.twitter.com/3zvYHj2gks— Sky News (@SkyNews) March 3, 2026 I’ll say not. Starmer ended up reversing his decision after Iran attacked a British military base in Cyprus. In some sense that looks even more pathetic. Did he not see this coming? Iran fires ballistic missiles towards Cyprus, home to a RAF base, yet the Defence Secretary says they “were not targeting the island.”Really? Does John Healey think Iran just accidentally fired ballistic missiles in that direction? This Labour government is totally rudderless.— Nigel Farage MP (@Nigel_Farage) March 1, 2026 This brutal monologue by Alex Phillips, a British journalist outraged by Starmer’s “leadership” was absolutely perfect. Watch as thus British show host unleashes 2 minutes straight on her own government! It's beautiful, elect her as PM… STAT!!! This is way Americans are FED up with Demoncrats! pic.twitter.com/UrVwy6W6dB— Summer D (@Daisysummer05) March 4, 2026 “It horrifies me to read that,” Phillips said of the Iranian attacks on British military personnel. “Our amazing armed forces deserve all the credibility, they deserve good resources, they deserve our full support, they deserve to be protected for crying out loud and we were exposed out there. … And now France and Greece have to come to our rescue.” Sad days indeed for the British to be hoping the French Navy can step in and bail them out. But maybe that’s necessary when this is the size of your mighty “fleet.” I am blown away that this is the size of the UK's navy in 2026. Shocked. I had no clue it had been reduced to this tiny flotilla.? pic.twitter.com/EGulXjMEWb— British Miss (@CleansedTweets) March 3, 2026 Unfortunately, the disaster for Starmer and the U.K. goes beyond his hapless preparations for the Iran strikes. Given the enormity of the current military operation in Iran, it’s easy to miss the extremely consequential changes happening in the relations between the U.S. and the U.K. That Spain initially decided (then apparently un-decided) not to assist the U.S. is no real surprise. Spain’s ruling leftwing government appears to have the support of billionaire financier Alex Soros and has frequently been at odds with the U.S. But the Anglo-American alliance has long been called the “special relationship,” for a good reason. Since the United States entered World War II, the two countries—united by a common language and a similar-enough culture—have typically worked closely together in war and peace. Yet, Starmer has made a series of baffling and catastrophic decisions that have put his government at odds with Trump and the U.S. while weakening his country’s overall position in the world. First, his government suspended some intelligence sharing with the U.S. as it struck narco-terrorists in the Caribbean in the lead up to the extraction and arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. That was a significant move given that the U.S. and U.K. are members of the so-called Five Eyes intelligence sharing alliance alongside Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The fruit of this decision and others is that Starmer seemed blindsided by the U.S. strikes on Iran. His response was weak and vacillating, lawyerly in the worst way imaginable. While Starmer seemed utterly paralyzed and inconsequential, a most consequential event took place that may seal the fate of the U.K. as even a middling power. Major insurance companies began halting some of their coverage of ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump stepped in and announced on Truth Social that the U.S. Development Finance Corporation would step in and provide insurance, backed by the might of the U.S. military, of course. Trump is obviously concerned about global economic stability, but this potentially signals a huge shift in the maritime shipping insurance market. You see, while the British Navy has largely rusted out and the U.K. largely abandoned its territorial possessions, the country was still quite dominant in the extremely lucrative shipping insurance industry. It has long been speculated that that British maritime insurance industry was buoyed by MI6 and British intelligence. What’s going to happen if the U.S. begins to withdraw its intelligence and moves into the market as the most reliable insurance provider? Not great for the sleeping British Lion. Our once invaluable ally is sinking into oblivion. Starmer’s government appears more concerned with appealing to the global Left and the rising Muslim voting bloc in his country than in defending its common interests or cultivating the relationship with its strongest ally. The more I see this, the more surreal it gets. You could make a movie about an abjectly pathetic coward, and if you filmed this scene, people would call it over the top. The phrase total submission barely scratches the surface of how humiliating this is. pic.twitter.com/h2mV2d6TZl— Hans Mahncke (@HansMahncke) March 4, 2026 Or maybe China has deeper tendrils into the highest levels of the U.K. government than they would admit. If we’ve truly entered a new, post-“special relationship” era, Starmer is largely to blame for the bottom falling out. This comes at a time when the U.K. faces transformational and increasingly toxic demographic changes and a shameful retreat from free speech. Meanwhile, Trump and the U.S. won’t stay still. America will move on and work more closely with better, stronger, and more reliable allies if that’s what needs to be done. This would signal a sad and undesirable undoing of a remarkable partnership that once held up the free world. The post The Humilation of Keir Starmer. A Radical Plan to Save Detroit and Restoring the Rust Belt

A Radical Plan to Save Detroit and Restoring the Rust Belt

Detroit has become the poster child of American decline and for good reason: No city in what is now known as the Rust Belt experienced such soaring highs and such abysmal lows. In the 1950s, Detroit was the wealthiest city in America. By 2014, just one year after the city declared bankruptcy, Detroit was considered the poorest city in America. Detroit is starting to show signs of comeback by courting large investments from some of the companies who brought Detroit to its zenith, such as the Ford Motor Company, and balancing the city’s checkbook. But plenty of problems persist, and the whiplash has left policymakers and every day Americans asking what happened, and what is the way back for cities like Detroit. Rodney Lockwood is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy with a business background in real estate. Lockwood joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to help unpack Detroit’s collapse, the beginnings of its recovery, and share his bold plan to revitalize a forgotten part of the city. “I think Detroit is probably the most prime example,” of the Rust Belt’s collapse, Lockwood told The Daily Signal, “because other cities have not suffered as much as Detroit.” “There was that period of time when it was the city,” Lockwood said of Detroit in the 1950s and 1960s. “Since that point in time, it is now, not even slowly but quite quickly, deteriorated into one third of its previous population.” In its heyday, Detroit’s population peaked at “almost two million,” Lockwood said. Today, Detroit’s population is just “over 600,000 people.” Detroit’s collapse was brought about, in part, by the auto industry looking elsewhere for lower production costs. Initially this meant automakers looked to other states south of Michigan—Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky. By the late 1980s, the auto industry was looking to offshore production, incentivized by growing volumes of trade agreements with foreign countries. But the auto industry moving out is not the entire story, Lockwood claimed. “It was part of it, but we also had some policy changes along the way,” he said. In Lockwood’s mind, the biggest change was Detroit’s tax structure. “An income tax was enacted in the sixties,” Lockwood said,  “taxing both residents and workers, or if you were a resident worker even more.” In the past few years, however, Detroit has shown signs of coming back. Lockwood wants to partake in that comeback, and he has an ambitious plan to create a “freedom city,” in Detroit on Belle Isle. Lockwood lays out his vision for this city through a novel he wrote titled, “Belle Isle: Detroit’s Game Changer.” “Belle Isle is an island in the Detroit River, which is an international river. One side is Detroit, Michigan. The other side is Windsor, Ontario,” Lockwood said. “It’s a total of, to be exact, 982 acres, about 1.5 square miles.” As Detroit deteriorated, so too did Belle Isle. “In the last couple decades, [Belle Isle] has fallen into, sort of, disrepair. Detroit was facing a budget crisis, so it wasn’t being maintained,” Lockwood added. Since Detroit’s bankruptcy, however, the state of Michigan took over Belle Isle and helped restore it, “but it’s still underutilized.” In his book, Lockwood envisions a walkable, densely populated city on Belle Isle where government has a very limited role and is focused on delivering essential services. The Belle Isle Lockwood describes seems like a town out of a European microstate meets “The Jetsons.”  And the idea has purchase. “I was shocked or surprised by the interest that this idea garnered from all over the world,” Lockwood said of his book. It’s not just Lockwood’s readers, either.  Mitchell Research and Communications performed a survey of Detroit and Michigan residents on the idea of turning Belle Isle into a special economic zone. They found that an outright majority of Michiganders (51%) and Detroiters (68%) support making Belle Isle “a Special Economic Zone as a high-density area within Detroit that is accessible to all.” The post A Radical Plan to Save Detroit and Restoring the Rust Belt appeared first on The Daily Signal.

State Department Hotline Updated to Help Americans Escape Middle East, Leavitt Says

The State Department has fixed the travel hotline for Americans seeking help in evacuating Middle Eastern countries amid the conflict in Iran, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday. “The line was updated, and I expect every single person in this room to report on that accurately,” Leavitt said, “so that information can be relayed appropriately to your audiences and to the American people.” The hotline previously told those trying to evacuate that they should not “rely” on the U.S. government, but it has now been updated. “That is something the administration quickly worked to address,” Leavitt said, “and we have fixed that problem.” Leavitt urged Americans traveling abroad to register for help in evacuating. “We’re also pointing people to the website again to register so that we know exactly where you are,” Leavitt said, “so when there are commercial flights moving into that area, when there are chartered flights moving into that area, we can get Americans on planes as quickly as possible.” Since Feb. 28, more 17,500 American citizens have safely returned to the United States from the Middle East, with over 8,500 American citizens returning to the U.S. yesterday alone, according to State Department Assistant Secretary Dylan Johnson. “Many more Americans have left the Middle East to other countries in Europe and Asia,” Johnson said, “and others have safely departed the Middle East but are still in transit back to the United States. “Though the State Department’s 24/7 Task Force, we have assisted nearly 6,500 Americans abroad, including offering security guidance and travel assistance,” he continued. “The U.S. State Department will continue to actively assist any American citizen abroad, who wishes to depart the Middle East, to do so.” Johnson encouraged Americans in the Middle East who need assistance to call the State Department at +1-202-501-4444. House Oversight Committee subpoenas Pam Bondi to testify on release of Epstein files

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted Wednesday to subpoena U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.Five Republicans voted with all of the Democrats on the committee to approve the subpoena motion made by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina.'If Epstein had as many cameras as has been reported, what has been released to the public is only a fraction of what exists. So who has them? Who is hiding them?'Bondi has already been questioned by the House Judiciary Committee over the release, which was criticized for not being careful enough to protect alleged victims and others involved with Epstein."The attorney general has gone to speak, obviously, to other committees," said Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia of California, who is on the Oversight Committee. "I think it's important that she is in front of our committee. She can directly answer questions about the release of the files, about transparency, about ensuring that victims and survivors are protected."Garcia said the public still has "significant" questions about the Justice Department's process for releasing material."We want to know where all the audio and video footage is from all of the pinhole cameras at every Epstein property," Mace said. "What about the 'Lolita Express'? Where is the footage? If Epstein had as many cameras as has been reported, what has been released to the public is only a fraction of what exists. So who has them? Who is hiding them? The victims of this horrific global network deserve justice, and the American people deserve the truth. We will not stop until we get both." Bondi was criticized after she appeared on Fox News in Feb. 2025 and claimed that the files were on her desk and getting reviewed in order to be imminently released. That first tranche of documents was mostly composed of information already released and disappointed many.Democrats have since accused the Justice Dept. of covering up some information in the files to protect Trump and others, while leaving some of the victims' names unredacted.Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has also agreed to an interview with the panel after his interactions with Epstein were revealed in the last massive release.RELATED: Bill Clinton accuses GOP of setting up 'kangaroo court' over Epstein testimony — and demands public hearing Bill and Hillary Clinton were interviewed by the panel about their involvement with Epstein."There's nothing that I saw when I was around him that made me realize he was trafficking women," the former president said to the committee. The other Republicans who voted in favor of the motion were Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Rep. Michael Cloud of Texas, and Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania. Like Blaze News?
