Republican Governor Criticizes President Trump For National Guard Deployment Across State Lines

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican, expressed criticism of President Trump’s move to deploy Texas National Guard troops to Illinois, saying it violated the principle of states’ rights. Stitt, the chair of the National Governors Association (NGA), spoke with The New York Times about the matter. “I was surprised that Governor Abbott sent troops from Texas to Illinois,” Stitt told the outlet, according to The Hill. “Abbott and I sued the Biden administration when the shoe was on the other foot and the Biden administration was trying to force us to vaccinate all of our soldiers and force masks across the country,” he continued. “As a federalist believer, one governor against another governor, I don’t think that’s the right way to approach this,” he added. Stitt is the first Republican governor to break with Trump on his deployment of National Guard troops across state lines. Gov. Kevin Stitt condemned President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops across state lines, the first Republican governor to speak out against the practice.https://t.co/p4gAfERGN7 pic.twitter.com/6w0QqlJyGT — Oklahoma Watch (@OklahomaWatch) October 10, 2025 The Hill has more: Approximately 200 soldiers from the Texas National Guard and 300 soldiers from the Illinois National Guard were activated in the greater Chicago area by Wednesday night, according to an update from U.S. Northern Command. Stitt emphasized that he supports President Trump’s goal of ensuring “law and order” in Democratic-run cities, as well as the president’s effort to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. But the governor said he worries about the precedent the deployment could set and how a future president from another party could take advantage of that tool. “We believe in the federalist system — that’s states’ rights,” Stitt said. “Oklahomans would lose their mind if Pritzker in Illinois sent troops down to Oklahoma during the Biden administration.” “The elite Texas National Guard are on the ground and ready to go. They are putting America first by ensuring that the federal government can safely enforce federal law,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said earlier this week. You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees or get out of the way and let Texas Guard do it. No Guard can match the training, skill, and expertise of the Texas National Guard. They defend our country with pride,” Abbott said. “America must also know that Texas still has thousands of National Guard assisting with the Border security,” he added. Democratic leaders — including Pritzker, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek and California Gov. Gavin Newsom — have been sharply critical of the use of military troops in cities, with all three filing lawsuits seeking to curb the moves. Newsom and Pritzker have also threatened to leave the NGA if the organization did not speak up against the interstate National Guard deployments. In the interview, Stitt shrugged off those demands, citing the NGA’s status as a tax-exempt nonprofit.

Legendary Country Singer Announces Final Concert Amid Ongoing Health Battle

Legendary country music singer-songwriter Alan Jackson announced his farewell concert will take place in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, June 27th, 2026. The show, “Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale,” will be at Nissan Stadium. The 66-year-old will be joined by other stars, including Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and more. Jackson announced in 2024 that he would be retiring from the stage amid an ongoing battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT). “We just felt like we had to end it all where it all started, and that’s in Nashville, Tennessee – Music City – where country music lives. I gotta do the last one there,” Jackson said. It’s #LastCallWithAlan The Finale! Pre-sales begin Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. ET. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, Oct. 17 (Jackson’s birthday!) at 11 a.m. ET, should any remain. VIP experiences will also be available. A dollar from every ticket sold for Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale will be donated to the CMT Research Foundation, which funds research to find a cure for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Jackson revealed his diagnosis of the degenerative nerve condition in September 2021, sharing he had already been dealing with the condition for 10 years at that point. After three decades of touring, the effects started to become noticeable when Jackson performed and he wanted to let “the fans and the public … know what’s going on.” It's an all-star lineup for Alan Jackson's Last Call. pic.twitter.com/7lIYeAjM7l — American Country Music Chatter (@ACMC_Country) October 9, 2025 Fox News has more: Jackson recently completed his “Last Call: One More for the Road” tour in May. His last tour began in 2022, just a year after he announced his Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease diagnosis. The country music star was diagnosed in 2011. “I don’t want them to think I’m drunk on stage because I’m having problems with mobility and balance. I have this neuropathy, neurological disease I inherited from my daddy,” he told People magazine at the time. “I’ve been reluctant to talk about this publicly, but it’s been a while, and it’s starting to affect my performance on stage a little bit where I don’t feel comfortable.” Added Jackson, “I just want people to know that’s why I look like I do, if they’re wondering. I don’t want to appear like some whiny celebrity. It’s not going to kill me, it’s not deadly… It’s not fatal – it’s just going to disable me eventually.” Jackson revealed he’d inherited Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease from his dad during an interview on the “Today” show. “There’s no cure for it, but it’s been affecting me for years,” he said in 2021. “And it’s getting more and more obvious.” The “Livin’ on Love” musician said he’s been “self-conscious” on stage because it’s affected his ability to balance, especially in front of a crowd and in front of the microphone.

MIT Rejects the Deal to Get Federal Funding

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is the first school to reject the Trump administration’s proposal that offered a select few universities preferential access to federal funds in exchange for agreeing to a set of demands.
