Will Ohio Gubernatorial Race Include This Dem?

Former Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, is reportedly passing on a chance to run for governor in order to run again for the U.S. Senate after losing last November to Republican Bernie Moreno. With Brown opting for the Senate chamber over the governor’s mansion, other Democrats may take an interest in next year’s gubernatorial race. One of those Democrats could be former Rep. Tim Ryan. Ryan represented Ohio’s 13th Congressional District until 2023. He lost the 2022 U.S. Senate race to now Vice President JD Vance. "Sherrod Brown's decision to run for the U.S. Senate has renewed and heightened Tim Ryan's interest in running for governor to further serve the people of Ohio," said Ryan spox Dennis Willard pic.twitter.com/781d8UPp3n— InteractivePolls (@IAPolls2022) August 12, 2025 Comments from Ryan spokesperson Dennis Willard have been circulating over social media and local news outlets, including 10TV. “Sherrod Brown’s decision to run for the US Senate has renewed and heightened Tim Ryan’s interest in running for governor to further serve the people of Ohio,” Willard said. The Daily Signal reached out to Willard for further comment. During an interview with WKYC in June, Ryan spoke to the possibility of running for governor. “I think I’m still processing. I’m not really in any super big hurry to make a decision. I think that I could do a really good job. I think I understand Ohio better than almost anybody in the state, as far as the different areas and how to do economic development,” he said when asked about a run. “So, that’s intriguing to me—to jump back in, but really my family life has changed in the last three years for the better. I’m coaching my kid in football and basketball. I’ve got way more time with my wife. We’ve traveled a little bit. I don’t miss anything with the family (now), where the previous 10 years I missed 75% of things and I love nothing more than my family,” Ryan explained. “So that’s the biggest thing, because having done this for almost 25 years, you know what you have to give up. You know what the sacrifices are, and knowing that, I think, makes me really want to think about it a lot before I would pull the trigger, and obviously the family would be involved in that decision, too.” The former congressman did speak out against businessman Vivek Ramaswamy over X when the Republican launched his campaign in February. Vivek will own everything DOGE does. And this race will be a referendum on all DOGE actions. https://t.co/mNs3iBRlRL— Tim Ryan (@TimRyan) February 25, 2025 Ramaswamy looks to have cleared the field for the Republican nomination. However, if Ryan runs, he would have to face Dr. Amy Acton in a Democratic primary. In a statement for The Daily Signal, Acton’s campaign manager, Philip Stein, focused on running against Ramaswamy. “Whether it’s record-setting fundraising, standing room only crowds at events, or numerous polls showing a toss-up race, it’s clear Ohio voters are fired up about Amy Acton and ready to move on from corporate billionaires like Vivek Ramaswamy, who will continue the same failed policies that have left so many Ohioans struggling,” Stein said. Should Acton face Ryan in a primary, 314 Action highlighted she’s in a good place, with an April poll showing her with a 52-38 percent lead against the former congressman. A memo released on Tuesday also shows Acton performing better against Ramaswamy than Ryan would. Internal polling from July via Impact Research conducted July 24-July 28 with 800 likely general election voters and a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5% shows Ramaswamy leading Acton by 47-46%, with 7% undecided. Last month, the campaign announced it had raised $9.7 million since Ramaswamy declared in February. A source with knowledge of the Ramaswamy campaign’s thinking spoke to The Daily Signal about the state of the race. “I think that who Vivek faces, because he’s put together such a strong infrastructure, and he’s got so many new ideas, he’s not worried about it from that standpoint,” the source said, also offering how Ramaswamy “would rather face someone like Tim Ryan,” given that there’s a “proven playbook on how to beat [Ryan].” “When there’s already someone so well known, there’s proven messages that work against them,” the source also said. Cook Political Report and Crystal Ball both consider the gubernatorial race to be “Likely Republican.” The post Will Ohio Gubernatorial Race Include This Dem? appeared first on The Daily Signal.

The Disease Slowly Killing Our Schools

This is a preview of this week’s episode of “The Signal Sitdown.” Don’t miss politics editor Bradley Devlin’s interview with Dr. Matthew Spalding by turning on YouTube notifications for the premiere at 6:30 a.m. EST on Aug. 14, 2025. Should I even send my kids back to school at all? Parents at every level are asking this question, whether they’re concerned about the exploding cost of higher education or the liberal takeover of the preschool classroom, because there is a disease running rampant through our education system. Though Dr. Matthew Spalding, a Ph.D., is not a medical doctor, he has diagnosed this disease that has led to more parents questioning America’s educational institutions. As the dean of the Van Andel Graduate School of Government at Hillsdale College’s Washington, D.C., campus and a Gov. Ron DeSantis appointee to the New College of Florida Board of Trustees, Spalding continues to work on a cure. He joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to discuss. If you run in conservative circles in Washington, D.C., and beyond, you’re well aware that Hillsdale and its graduates have performed a not-so-hostile takeover of the conservative movement.  “What we’re interested in is shaping minds and teaching people to think,” Spalding said when asked about Hillsdale’s recent momentum. That momentum, Spalding explained, is twofold. “On the one hand, this city is a vacuum that we can fill,” he noted. “But, on the other hand, more and more people are attracted to that because right now… I think more and more people are realizing an emptiness in our politics but also a certain lack of depth. And so they’re looking for something more.” The modern education system, from top to bottom, has turned its back on the Western tradition’s notion of education.  “Education should be about forming a human being, liberating them, training their mind, and you do that by perfecting and getting better at the things that human beings do by nature,” Spalding told The Daily Signal. “If you think through American history about how the normal person becomes a good citizen, a good human being, a good member of their community, it’s by learning those basic things.” For Spalding, this view of education is rooted in Christianity. “It’s no coincidence at all that higher education at large periods of our history is really carried over and protected by religion and Christian schools,” Spalding said. “There was something about Christian institutions and Christian thinking and theology that could see the Greek and Roman roots of reasoning in the nature of things, and there was something about that philosophical understanding of the nature of things that could see a certain coincidence with an idea of Christianity that held that all are equal before God and equal in their being. And I think that melding is a very important component of educational systems in the West.” “What is the thing they attack most precisely? That link. You’ve got to sever reason from revelation,” Spalding claimed. “Modern society has placed those things under attack to a large extent because it denies that man by nature can do these things,” he added. “You need science, you need mathematical expertise, and you need academic experts to tell you these things. Essentially what the modern project does, whether you think of it from the point of view of reason in classical reason or revelation in biblical or Christian thinking and theology, if you destroy the notion that the human mind can know things… it’s all relativism and subjectivism, it’s whatever it’s subject to, whatever you think, whatever your will is.” “Think about it in its more radical, skeptical sense,” Spalding suggested. “I don’t actually know you’re a human being. I don’t know that this is a table. I have no evidence of any of these things. I can’t prove any of this reality. I mean, it just becomes a nihilistic breakdown at a certain point.” The post The Disease Slowly Killing Our Schools appeared first on The Daily Signal.

With DC Police Under Federal Control, Tom Homan Says DC No Longer a Sanctuary City

Washington, D.C., will not operate as a sanctuary city as long the city’s police remain under federal control, according to border czar Tom Homan. Instead, police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement will work together.   “I think D.C. under federal control is not going to be a sanctuary city,” Homan said on Fox News Wednesday. “We’re working with the police hand-in-hand, and when we encounter criminal illegal aliens, they’ll be turned over to ICE.”  “I’m not saying every illegal alien in D.C. is a criminal, but many are,” Homan continued. “So these are the people we’re going to focus on. [The] illegal alien criminal safety threat in D.C. is not going to be protected. There’s no sanctuary for these people in the city of D.C.”   .@RealTomHoman: "D.C. under federal control is not going to be a 'sanctuary' city. We're working with the police hand-in-hand — and when we encounter a criminal illegal alien, they'll be turned over to ICE." pic.twitter.com/7lTtSd3YnV— Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) August 13, 2025 Homan’s comments follow President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize Washington’s police force and send the National Guard into the city in an effort to address violent crime in the nation’s capital.   Washington is one of multiple localities across the U.S. where local or state laws or policies restrict law enforcement from working with federal immigration agents.   “Sanctuary policies impede law enforcement and put American citizens at risk by design,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement last week. Bondi has pledged to bring “litigation against sanctuary jurisdictions and work closely with the Department of Homeland Security to eradicate these harmful policies around the country.”  Under current law, the president is only permitted to federalize Washington’s police for 30 days, but Trump expressed interest during a press conference Wednesday in seeing this time limit changed.   “We’re going to need a crime bill that we’re going to be putting in, and it’s going to pertain initially to D.C.,” Trump said. “It’s almost going to use it as a very positive example, and we’re going to be asking for extensions on that, long-term extensions, because you can’t have 30 days,” he continued. “Thirty days is, by the time you do it—we’re going to have this in good shape.”  Extending the 30-day limit would require a vote of Congress.   The post With DC Police Under Federal Control, Tom Homan Says DC No Longer a Sanctuary City appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Saving Lives: American Staffordshire Terrier Rescue

American Staffordshire Terriers are often misunderstood, leading to countless dogs ending up in shelters. At DogingtonPost, we believe these loyal companions deserve a second chance at happiness. American Staffordshire Terrier dog rescue organizations play a vital role in saving lives and changing perceptions. This post explores the challenges these dogs face and how we can make a difference. Who Are American Staffordshire Terriers? Origins and History American Staffordshire Terriers (AmStaffs) have a rich heritage that traces back to the United Kingdom. Breeders brought these dogs to the United States in the 19th century. Contrary to popular belief, AmStaffs were not bred for fighting, but for companionship and farm work. Physical Traits and Temperament AmStaffs are medium-sized dogs with a muscular build. They typically weigh between 57 to 67 pounds and stand 17 to 19 inches tall. Their short coat and broad head give them a distinctive appearance. Despite their strong physique, AmStaffs are known for their gentle and affectionate nature (especially towards children). This loving disposition has earned them the nickname “Nanny Dogs” in some circles. The American Kennel Club describes AmStaffs as intelligent, confident, and good-natured. These energetic dogs need regular exercise and mental stimulation. Without proper outlets for their energy, they can become destructive (which is one reason they sometimes end up in shelters). Debunking Common Myths Many misconceptions surround AmStaffs, particularly regarding their temperament. People often wrongly assume that all “bully breeds” are aggressive or dangerous. However, a study by the American Temperament Test Society found that American Staffordshire Terriers passed temperament tests at a rate of 85.7%. Another myth claims that AmStaffs have locking jaws. This is entirely false. Their jaw structure is the same as any other dog breed. What they do possess is determination and strength, which can make their grip seem more tenacious. Shelter Statistics Despite their loving nature, AmStaffs often find themselves in shelters. The ASPCA reports that about 3.1 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters each year, with a disproportionate number being bully breeds like AmStaffs. Several factors contribute to this issue: Breed-specific legislation (BSL) that restricts or bans certain breeds, often including AmStaffs. Landlord and insurance company policies against these breeds, making it difficult for owners to find housing. Lack of proper training and socialization, which can lead to behavioral issues. Overbreeding by irresponsible breeders, producing more puppies than can be properly homed. Understanding these challenges is essential to address the plight of American Staffordshire Terriers in shelters. The next section will explore the importance of AmStaff rescue efforts and how they make a significant impact on these dogs’ lives. Why AmStaff Rescue Matters The Shelter Crisis American Staffordshire Terrier rescue organizations stand as champions against breed discrimination and shelter overcrowding. These groups tackle numerous obstacles in their quest to save AmStaffs from euthanasia and secure loving homes for them. AmStaffs in shelters face unique challenges. Shelter populations in the U.S. have surged by 900,000 overall since January 2021, and more than 359,000 dogs were euthanized in 2023. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for rescue efforts. Many shelters lack the resources to provide proper care and rehabilitation for AmStaffs. These dogs often arrive with behavioral issues stemming from neglect or abuse. Rescue organizations fill this gap by offering specialized care, training, and socialization that shelters can’t always provide. Success Stories The transformation of rescued AmStaffs often astounds observers. Blue, an AmStaff rescued by Bully Paws Rescue in 2022, arrived at the shelter emaciated and fearful after being used as a bait dog. Through patient rehabilitation and training, Blue transformed into a loving family pet and now works as a therapy dog in hospitals. Blue’s story isn’t unique. The Villalobos Rescue Center (featured on the TV show “Pit Bulls and Parolees”) successfully rehabilitates and rehomes over 400 pit bull-type dogs annually. These success stories prove that with proper care and understanding, these dogs can become wonderful companions. The Battle Against Breed-Specific Legislation Breed-specific legislation (BSL) presents a significant hurdle for AmStaff rescues. As of 2025, over 900 U.S. cities have enacted breed-specific legislation. These laws hinder rescues from operating in certain areas and make it difficult for adopters to find homes for AmStaffs. Rescue organizations play a vital role in educating the public and policymakers about BSL’s ineffectiveness. They provide data showing that breed-neutral dangerous dog laws more effectively promote public safety. For example, Calgary’s breed-neutral approach led to a 50% decrease in dog bites over a 12-year period, while cities with BSL saw no significant reduction. Beyond Shelter Walls AmStaff rescues do more than just shelter dogs; they advocate for change. These organizations work tirelessly to save lives, change perceptions, and create a world where every AmStaff has a chance at a happy life. Supporting these organizations means supporting a more compassionate and informed approach to dog ownership and breed perception. The impact of AmStaff rescue extends far beyond individual dogs. It shapes public opinion, influences policy, and creates a ripple effect of positive change. In the next section, we’ll explore how you can support these vital rescue efforts and make a difference in the lives of American Staffordshire Terriers. How You Can Support AmStaff Rescues American Staffordshire Terrier rescues need your support to continue their life-saving work. Here are practical ways you can make a difference: Volunteer Your Time and Skills Rescue organizations always need extra hands. Contact local AmStaff rescues and ask about their volunteer needs. Many rescues need help with dog walking, socialization, and basic training. If you have specialized skills like photography, web design, or grant writing, these can be invaluable to rescue operations. The ASPCA reports that volunteers contribute over 2.7 million hours annually to animal welfare organizations. Your time can significantly impact a rescue’s ability to care for more dogs. Open Your Home to Fostering Fostering can lead to improved behavioral outcomes in dogs compared to those housed in shelters. When you provide a temporary home for an AmStaff, you free up space in the rescue for another dog in need. Fostering also helps dogs adjust to home life, which makes them more adoptable. The Petfinder Foundation states that dogs in foster homes have a 50% higher adoption rate compared to those in shelters. Fostering an AmStaff not only saves that dog’s life but potentially saves another by creating space in the rescue. Support Through Donations Financial support is essential for rescues to operate. Even small donations add up. For example, a $25 donation can vaccinate an AmStaff against common diseases. A $100 donation could cover the cost of spaying or neutering one dog. Many rescues also need supplies. Check their websites for wish lists of items like dog food, beds, toys, and cleaning supplies. Some organizations (like the Villalobos Rescue Center) have Amazon wish lists where you can directly purchase and ship needed items. Advocate for Breed-Neutral Policies Educate yourself about breed-specific legislation (BSL) and its ineffectiveness. Share this information with your local representatives. The National Canine Research Council provides data-driven resources on why breed-neutral policies are more effective for public safety. Attend city council meetings when animal-related ordinances are discussed. Your voice can make a difference. In 2018, Springfield, Missouri repealed its pit bull ban after years of advocacy from local dog lovers and rescue organizations. Spread Awareness Use your social media platforms to share information about AmStaffs and rescue organizations. Post success stories, debunk myths, and encourage others to get involved. The more people understand these dogs, the more likely they are to support rescue efforts or even adopt. You can also organize local events (like fundraisers or educational seminars) to raise awareness about AmStaff rescues in your community. These events not only generate support but also create opportunities for people to meet well-behaved AmStaffs in person. Final Thoughts American Staffordshire Terrier dog rescue organizations transform lives daily. These groups save dogs from euthanasia, change public perceptions, and advocate for breed-neutral policies. Their efforts extend beyond individual dogs, shaping a more compassionate approach to dog ownership and breed perception. Every action counts in the mission to help American Staffordshire Terriers. Volunteers, foster homes, and donations all contribute to a brighter future for these loyal companions. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of these misunderstood dogs. DogingtonPost strives to provide dog lovers with the latest news and expert advice. We believe education and responsible ownership can create a world where every AmStaff finds a loving home. Together, we can ensure these incredible dogs get the chance to show their true, loving nature.

Tulsi Gabbard drops declassified top secret document implicating James Clapper in Russiagate

Two months after the first election victory of President Donald Trump in 2016, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper wrote an email about the investigation into Russian collusion that would remain top secret until Wednesday. The email was released by current DNI Tulsi Gabbard, who has been uncovering the origins of the Russiagate scandal and building a case against Obama administration officials who orchestrated it.'The decision to compromise standards and violate protocols in the creation of the 2017 manufactured intelligence assessment was deliberate and came from the very top.' The declassified document is an email from Clapper to former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, among others."Newly declassified Top Secret emails sent on December 22, 2016 complying with President Obama's order to create the manufactured January 2017 ICA about Russia expose how DNI James Clapper demanded the IC fall in line behind the Russia Hoax," Gabbard explained. She quotes Clapper saying that the effort was a "team sport" and that they needed to "compromise" on their "normal modalities." The email was a response to Mike Rogers, who was the director of the National Security Agency at the time. Rogers was expressing concern that the NSA did not have "sufficient access" to the underlying intelligence and that his personnel weren't "fully comfortable saying that they have had enough time to review all of the intelligence to be absolutely confident in their assessments."RELATED: Evidence in 'burn bags': DNI Tulsi Gabbard gives Glenn Beck IC update in exclusive interview "The leading figures in the Russia hoax have spent years deceiving the American public by presenting their manufactured and politicized assessments as credible intelligence," Gabbard added in a press release."The email released today reinforces what we already exposed: The decision to compromise standards and violate protocols in the creation of the 2017 manufactured intelligence assessment was deliberate and came from the very top,” she concluded. Clapper did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
