See videos and setlist of Kiss’ firsts shows after farewell tour

After 50 years of career, Kiss played their final show in 2023 in New York City, where the band had been formed by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. Two years after their touring days were over, the band’s final lineup reunited for the Kiss Kruise: Land-Locked in Vegas event, performing unmasked. They did two shows, on November 14 and 15, playing many songs that had rarely been performed live over the years. During the performance the band paid tribute to Ace Frehley, who passed away last month at the age of 74. (I want to take a moment to) think about somebody who is at the foundation of this band. We're talking about Ace. We certainly had differences, but that's what family is about. Why don't we take a moment... think about him looking down on us - from Jendell, probably - and let's have a moment for Ace," Paul Stanley said. Dave Mustaine says Megadeth’s farewell might last 3 to 5 years

The Megadeth leader, songwriter, guitarist and singer Dave Mustaine recently announced that the band would soon say goodbye to fans, trying to perform everywhere they could, and that their upcoming self-titled studio album would be their final one. Now, in an interview with Kerrang!, the musician said that he believes the farewell tour might last three to five years, so the thrash metal band is not going away that quickly. Dave Mustaine says Megadeth's farewell might last 3 to 5 years "We're easily talking about touring for another three to five years. And if we're going to be doing it for that long, then, shit, I'll be looking at the birthday I don't even want to think about." "I'm not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he's in his 80s. I have to remember that people live and they die. And I need to take good care of myself," Dave Mustaine said. The band is currently formed by Mustaine, Dirk Verbeuren (Drums), James LoMenzo (Bass) and Teemu Mäntysaari (Guitar). Megadeth is the second band of the Big 4 of Thrash Metal to do a farewell tour, since Slayer was the first in 2019, although the band reunited and is playing in festivals around the world right now. The band recently released "I Don't Care", the second single of their upcoming self-titled album which will be out next January 26. The record will also include a new version of Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning,” a song for which Mustaine is credited as one of the writers, since it features ideas from the period when he was still part of the band, before being fired in 1983, shortly before they recorded their debut album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E4O5VlRYOY&list=RD-E4O5VlRYOY&start_radio=1&pp=ygUVbWVnYWRldGggaSBkb24ndCBjYXJloAcBThe post Dave Mustaine says Megadeth’s farewell might last 3 to 5 years appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Pete Townshend’s opinion on Queen

Pete Townshend’s opinion on Queen

The guitarist, songwriter and singer Pete Townshend was part of the 60s British Rock movement that revolutionized music. Alongside The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, The Who helped to change the course of Rock and Roll forever, inspiring countless bands all over the world. In the 1970s they were still active and highly relevant, but new groups were also emerging and would carry the torch in the years that followed. One of them was Queen and Pete Townshend has already shared his opinion on the band. What is Pete Townshend's opinion on Queen Although Pete Townshend recognizes the impact Queen had in music, he is not a big fan of the band as he said that he never appreciated what "Queen was about" when talking about Live Aid festival. "The Who invented Stadium Rock. We gave it away. Our timing was terrible. When we did Live Aid, we could barely fuckin’ play. Queen were in the middle of a tour, walked out there, took the whole thing, and turned it into an advert for themselves. I never really appreciated what Queen was about, to be honest. I liked ABBA, but I didn’t really connect it with the lighthearted pop diversity of Queen’s catalog. I’m a huge fan of Bruce, of course, and a big fan of U2, and very happy to see the way that they took the stadium mantle." "But with songs like 'Won’t Get Fooled Again' and 'Baba O’Riley,' I fuckin’ nailed it. There’s no question. And I gave that instrument away. But it would be wrong to say that I regret it, because I don’t. I have to look back and say, 'Well, what is, is.' But where it really bit for us all was financially, because that moment was one where instead of playing places like the Fillmore and the occasional arena, the big acts were playing consistently huge venues," Pete Townshend told Rolling Stone in 2025. That wasn't the first time that Townshend had the chance to see Queen playing. As he told in his autobiography "Who I Am" (2012), he went to their show a few years before, in 1980, with his first wife Karen Astley. The musician said they were the "maddest group" he ever had seen live by then. Pete Townshend said: "Karen and I went to see Queen at Wembley. I thought they were about the maddest group I’d ever seen. They were bigger than The Who in the UK by this time. John Lennon had been shot dead in New York the day before, and it was all anyone could talk about. I had only met him once or twice, but I felt for Yoko, Sean and Julian," Pete Townshend said. He also mentioned Queen’s participation in Live Aid in his biography, saying that they and George Michael delivered the best performances of the festival. At the end, as he battled to find a place to stand on the stage, it was I who moved to lift Bob Geldof up to join us for the finale, and it was Paul McCartney who moved to my side to help. That was a good moment for me. As for our performance, The Who were out of practice and should probably have left it to Queen and George Michael, who stole the show," Pete Townshend said. Pete Townshend and Freddie Mercury studied at the same art college A big part of the famous British Rock and Roll musicians studied at art colleges in England, including Pete Townshend and Freddie Mercury. They both attended the Ealing College of Art, although in different eras (Ronnie Wood was also a student there). Townshend left a year before Mercury enrolled in 1966. Mercury graduated in 1969 with a degree in Graphic Art and Design, later using his skills to create Queen’s logo, known as the “Queen crest.” It combines the zodiac signs of the four members: the lions for John Deacon and Roger Taylor (Leo), a crab for Brian May (Cancer), and two fairies for Freddie (Virgo). "I went to Ealing Art School a year after Pete Townshend left. Music was a sideline to everything we did. The school was a breeding ground for musicians, I listened to Hendrix, really. I got my diploma and then I thought I'd chance it as a freelance artist. I tried, I did it for a couple of months. But I'd done it for so long I thought, 'My God, I've done enough.'" He continued: "The interest wasn't there. And the music thing just grew and grew. Finally I said, 'Right, I'm taking the plunge, it's music.' I'm one of those people believes in doing those things which interest you. Music is so interesting, dear," Freddie Mercury told Melody Maker in 1974. In 1992, five months after Freddie Mercury's death, Queen organized a charity tribute show. Although Pete wasn't part of it, The Who's vocalist Roger Daltrey represented the band to honor Mercury's legacy. That night he joined Queen and Tony Iommi on stage to perform "I Want it All". Another interesting connection between Freddie and Townshend is that in 2006 The Who won the first annual "Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement in Live Music Award" at the Vodaphone Live Awards. Brian May said Pete Townshend was Queen's biggest inspiration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CSSnrY3Ezs&list=RD4CSSnrY3Ezs&start_radio=1&pp=ygUUcm9nZXIgZGFsdHJleSBpIHdhbnSgBwE%3D The Who was one of the bands that inspired Roger Taylor and Brian May the most when they were still aspiring musicians. They used to go see together Townshend's band playing and they would "get that feeling of reckless danger, anger, passion. And that’s what we seek. Pete Townshend, in full flight, is a dangerous experience," Brian May told Cuepoint in 2014. As May said on his website in 2024, Pete is “at the top” of the list of Queen’s biggest inspirations. “We (Queen) wanted to take people off into the stratosphere. It’s always been that way with us. We were inspired by our heroes to do that, and I put The Who way up top of that list. Pete Townshend is the master of mood change, a master of the suspended chord." "I owe so much to him… That was the whole kind of principle of the early electric guitar. So that you could amlify it on the stage and it wouldn’t feed back. So I’d seen feedback. I’d seen Pete Townshend – again, wow! Pete Townshend’s a god of guitar and always will be! I’d seen him stand there and let the guitar explode into life on its own," Brian May said. The post Pete Townshend’s opinion on Queen appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

A pro wrestler left the ring mid-match to stop security from manhandling a boy with Down syndrome

Professional wrestling in the 1990s was really something else. Dominated at the time by the WWF (now WWE), stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, and The Undertaker were larger than life and some of the most popular public sports figures in the world well before The Rock and John Cena hit the scene. And then there was Shawn "The Heartbreak Kid" Michaels, who was perhaps the biggest star of all during his heyday. Known for his extraordinarily cocky and vain character, Michaels was a terrific performer both in the ring and on the mic, making him a beloved fan favorite. Peak Shawn Michaels was larger than life. Giphy In one iconic moment from a 1997 match, Shawn Michaels stopped and left the ring mid-match when he noticed a security scuffle taking place just a few feet away. The 1997 King of the Ring Pay Per View event featured Shawn Michaels taking on Stone Cold Steve Austin, pitting two of the sport's biggest stars against each other for what would become a legendary showdown.Just a minute or so into the match, Steve Austin stops to stare outside the ring at some kind of disturbance. Michaels quickly clocks what's going on and slides out of the ring. He saunters over to a group of security personnel who seem to be roughly grabbing at and restraining a young boy. Michaels gently shoves them aside and offers comfort to the boy, who it becomes clear has Down syndrome. It would have been the perfect heartwarming moment...if Steve Austin hadn't run over and immediately started "punching" Michaels in the head! The performers resume their match in the ring for another minute before Michaels again exits and finds the boy. He waves off the security guards and gently escorts the boy down the aisle and safely away from the ring, effectively breaking character in front of the crowd of 13,000 stunned onlookers.Once they're a safe distance from the ring, Michaels hands the boy over to some other officials and a woman who comes running after him, and then returns to the match. As a show of respect, Steve Austin holds the ropes open for his opponent to return to the regularly scheduled match, which went on to be an all-time classic. — (@) In professional wrestling, there's a concept called "kayfabe"— it means that at no point are the performers or the production to ever, ever indicate that what's taking place isn't real.We all know that professional wrestling like WWE is staged and mostly scripted. While the athletic stunts are impressive (and the falls really do hurt), the wrestlers in the ring aren't really fighting each other. It's all a giant soap opera, with dramatic storylines written that build anticipation for the big showdown. What's so unique about pro wrestling is that this illusion is never broken—especially not in the 90s. Performers like Shawn Michaels were never to break character in interviews or fan interactions, and absolutely never during a live match, let alone one of the main events of a Pay Per View performance!Think kayfabe is silly? Tell that to the wrestlers. In 1975, a trio of wrestlers were involved in a horrific plane crash. One of the wrestler's, Mr. Wrestling, survived and made it to the hospital, where he proceeded to lie to the doctors:"While lying in a hospital bed, and with no way of knowing if his compatriots were alive or dead, Mr. Wrestling provided his true name...and then lied about his job to preserve the illusion of wrestling. He knew that if word got out that a good guy, the owner of the company’s brother and three bad guys were all on the same plane, it could ruin that illusion forever," according to Uproxx.A wrestler named Junkyard Dog once became "blinded" during a match and wore dark glasses and a walking cane in public for months afterward, even claiming that he could not see his newborn son. One story goes that the "blind" Junkyard Dog was once sitting ringside at a match when a fan jumped the barrier with a gun close by, and JYD was legitimately torn about whether to stop the man and break kayfabe (luckily, police officers intervened first, but can you believe he really had to give this decision serious weight?!). Junkyard Dog took kayfabe extremely seriously. Giphy Kayfabe also means that, no matter what's going on around the production, the show must go on. In 1999, a wrestler named Owen Hart died in the ring after some acrobatics equipment sadly malfunctioned. The others wrestlers were ordered to continue performing the rest of the show with Hart's blood still drying on the mat.For Michaels, and Austin to a lesser extend, to break that illusion of reality in order to help a fan showed a tremendous amount of compassion. The match has over 12 million views on YouTube, striking a cord with viewers both for the performance and for the amazing display of integrity and warmth by Shawn Michaels. Commenters shared their admiration in droves:"Shawn Michael protects the special kid like a caring father. Respect.""Shawn Michaels taking the time to make sure that young man got out of the ring side safely is one of the best things Ive ever seen in wrestling. A legend in the ring and out.""The way Shawn loving blanketed the boy with love to keep him out of the ring and content at the same time was so angelic""How great of shawn was it to break character and go help that disabled olympian kid. What a great guy.""Stone Cold holding the ropes for Shawn Michaels out of respect for what just happened is the greatest breaking kayfabe moment in the history of the WWE. ... Stone Cold acknowledged what just happened and how much he had respect for what Michaels just did."Police and security personnel often have extremely poor training on dealing with people with disabilities, which can lead to unnecessary violence. When the young man at this WWF event hopped the railing, he unknowingly put himself in a lot of danger. Shawn Michaels stopping the live performance, breaking character, and helping the boy out with warmth and compassion may have prevented a tragic outcome.
