He was trying to receive medical clearance to re-enter the firefighting force before he was fired. The mayor said the city will assist “within our legal restrictions,” but also referred to the tragic situation as “just life.” “You can determine something on Monday and something can happen on Tuesday. That’s just life,” Adams said. “His medical condition did not allow him to become a firefighter. “It’s so unfortunate because he appears to have been a great young man who would have been great to the FDNY. But that’s the reality we were facing, and we’re going to be here for the family as much as possible.” City officials reportedly said the fire department let go of workers on "long-term duty" who couldn't return to work in more than a year and a half to meet budget cuts. Connecticut police released dashcam footage that shows an ATV rider crashing into the windshield of a police cruiser in New Haven, Connecticut. According to WSFA, police arrived to “address complaints of people illegally operating dirt bikes and ATVs in the city.” The incident happened Sunday afternoon on Farnam Drive. Hartford Courant reports: New Haven officers who were assigned to a dirtbike/ATV detail to address ongoing complaints of riders driving illegally and recklessly in the city responded to the area of East Rock Park on Sunday around 3:40 p.m. on the reports of a group congregating there, according to the New Haven Police Department. Officers used Farnam Drive, which has been closed to all vehicular traffic since 2020, to access the park. While the officers were driving up the road, they saw a large number of pedestrians, including families with children, in the area and noticed an ATV driving down the road at a high rate of speed toward the pedestrians, police said. In the footage, the police cruiser cuts off the ATV rider, causing him to crash into the windshield. “New Haven, CT police release dash cam footage showing their police cruiser cutting off an ATV rider. Police were called after they received reports of ATV and dirt bike riders at East Rock Park. When one of the officers noticed an ATV rider coming down the road, he angled his car in front of the man causing him to crash into the car. New Haven Chief of Police Karl Jacobson released a statement after the incident. “This is an unfortunate and stark reminder of the extreme dangers of illegal ATV and dirt bike riding on city streets, both for pedestrians and the operators of the vehicles themselves. Our police officers engaged in a potentially life-saving maneuver on behalf of this family that was in harm’s way. While we’re glad the family was protected from harm, what happened to the driver is tragic, and we hope for his complete and speedy recovery and we urge the public not to engage in this type of activity,” Jacobson stated. My parents had been conned into believing that my diagnosed attention deficit disorder behavior would be fixed with “tough love.” I’m still processing the trauma, doing the hard work it takes to tell the whole story in a memoir that will be published next year. It takes all my courage to talk about it, but I couldn’t stand knowing that children as young as 8 years old are being sent to these “troubled teen” programs by parents who don’t know and government agencies that don’t care. Sexual assaults of children The last stop on my terrible journey was Provo Canyon School, a lockdown facility where I was sent after I escaped from a couple boot-camp type places. On my first day, I was forced to remove all my clothes, squat and cough, and submit to a gynecological exam – all watched closely by male staff. Although it was an extremely uncomfortable experience, I was led to believe it was a legitimate, routine check for contraband. But what I couldn’t understand as a 16-year-old girl was why that internal exam would be done to me frequently during my time at Provo, and only during the middle of the night. Be quiet. Stop struggling or you’ll go to Obs.” Obs – short for observation – was solitary confinement in a tiny cinderblock room with nothing but a drain and a roll of toilet paper.
