Hairless stray dog found wandering on road turns into fluffiest ‘teddy bear’ with love and care

The rescue of Bobby the dog was a harrowing yet hopeful event. It all began in a perilous location, where Bobby was spotted wandering dangerously close to traffic. His life was in immediate danger as he narrowly avoided being hit by a speeding motorcycle. This close call set off a chain of events that would... Former SBC president warns a Southern Baptist ban on women pastors will yield 'A LOT of collateral damage'

Former SBC president warns a Southern Baptist ban on women pastors will yield 'A LOT of collateral damage'

The Southern Baptist Convention is holding its annual meeting in Indianapolis this week. Messengers will vote on an enumerated sixth item to Article III, Paragraph 1 of the SBC Constitution effectively banning female pastors and "disfellowshipping" churches that have them. While many Southern Baptists regard the amendment as biblically justified and a means to maximize unity among member churches, others have expressed concern about the possibility of alienating minority members. Among those in the latter camp is former SBC President J.D. Greear, who warned Thursday that the proposed amendment "rewrites the rules of our cooperation and attempts to fix, with a sledge hammer, something that isn't really broken." Background According to the Baptist Press, a June 2023 report alleged with "99% confidence level and a 2% margin of error" that there are 1,844 female pastors serving in 1,225 SBC churches. Volunteer investigators examined an allegedly randomized sample of 3,847 churches and found that there were 99 Southern Baptist churches with female pastors and a total of 149 female pastors. They then extrapolated that figure to the total number of cooperating Southern Baptist churches, now over 46,900. Hoping to arrest this trend — having previously observed signs of it at five nearby churches — Pastor Mike Law of Arlington Baptist Church introduced a motion at the 2022 SBC Annual Meeting in Anaheim seeking that Article III, Paragraph 1 of the SBC Constitution be amended to state that churches would "not affirm, appoint, or employ a woman as a pastor of any kind." Law stressed in a letter to the Executive Committee that "ushering women into the pastoral office in Southern Baptist churches unsettles our Convention's unity." Extra to his appeal to SBC unity, Law cited several biblical passages to justify precluding women from becoming pastors. "Devaluing our doctrine will not lead to faithfulness or fruitfulness. Rather, if we learn anything from history, embracing empty doctrines will soon empty our Convention too," wrote Law. "Consider the exodus among the liberal and mainline denominations. They abided with women as pastors for a time, then they embraced the practice — thereby abandoning sound doctrine — and so began their rapid decline." While the Executive Committee indicated it affirmed Article VI of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, which limits the office of pastor to men "as qualified by Scripture," it suggested the amendment was redundant, reported the Baptist Press. "Our beliefs are most appropriately stated in our adopted statement of faith rather than in our constitution and therefore opposes a suggested amendment to SBC Constitution, Article III, which would unnecessarily restate the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, Article VI," said the EC. Nevertheless, the EC put the motion to messengers at last year's meeting in New Orleans. After Texas Pastor Juan Sanchez of the High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin clarified that "we can say only men are to be pastors" but that women nevertheless "have a vital place in the life of the church," Law's motion received the necessary two-thirds vote by messengers, making the next step the securing of another two-thirds vote at the 2024 annual meeting. If the so-called "Law Amendment" passes this week, then the convention will only deem a church to be in friendly cooperation and sympathetic with its purposes and work if, extra to its satisfaction of the pre-existing criteria, it has only male pastors and elders. Reactions Responses to the proposed Law Amendment have been mixed. SBC Pastor Brett Maragni, founding pastor of Harvest Jacksonville, opposes the the Law Amendment, stressing that if it passes, "the SBC will, in effect, take on a new form as a denomination. And not for the better. We will officially abandon our historical identity and become a creedal people." Rob Collingsworth, the director of strategic relationships for Criswell College, who served on the SBC Resolutions Committee in 2023, recently blasted the Law Amendment, claiming it inconsistently prioritizes title; it is exclusionary; and it signals a transformation of the SBC into an "enforcement mechanism for our churches" as opposed to its traditional role as a "guardrail for the work of our entities." Dr. Heath Lambert, senior pastor of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, was initially uncertain about the amendment but changed his mind after taking into account the apparent lack of institutional clarity about who is eligible for the office of pastor; the populist revolt in the SBC against what is perceived to be an egalitarian creep; and the "biblical answer" to the question of whether women can serve as pastors. The website for the Law Amendment warns that "once a denomination has female pastors, it's usually just a matter of time until they ordain homosexual pastors." "The American Baptist Churches USA allowed female pastors in 1985 and then homosexual pastors in 1999," said the Law Amendment site. "The Episcopal Church USA went from having female pastors in 1976 to homosexual pastors in 1996. For the ELCA, it was 1988 to 2009. For the PCUSA, it was 1956 to 2011. And after the United Methodists allowed female pastors in 1956, they are now hemorrhaging over homosexual ordination, and it’s the conservatives who are leaving." "If we cannot be clear and unashamed about what the Bible says a pastor is now, then there is little hope that we will stand firm on other teachings of God’s Word that are out of step with the standards of the world," added the site. Greear weighs in Last year, Greear noted that "some churches have chosen to appoint women as lead pastors, which appears to be a clear denial of complementarianism. For churches like this, perhaps we should recognize that they are not closely identified with us." He noted, however, that in certain cases, at issue is not a violation of complementarianism but rather "nomenclature," as in the case of a church calling a Sunday school teacher a "children's pastor." In addition his attempt to introduce some nuance, Greear downplayed the issue, suggesting that the "reality is that even the largest estimates of churches with female pastors on staff make for a very small — and, in fact, shrinking — fraction of our Convention." With the vote imminent, Greear reiterated his sense last week that the "Law Amendment is unwise, unnecessary, and will have significant negative ramifications." "The church I pastor practices and celebrates complementarianism — in this context this means that as we believe pastor, elder, and overseer are the same office, every person called 'pastor' in our church is, and always will be, a man," wrote Greear. "My objection is that it rewrites the rules of our cooperation and attempts to fix, with a sledge hammer, something that isn’t really broken." According to Greear, Southern Baptist messengers already have the means to oust wayward churches that have female senior pastors from the convention, as they did with Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, and a handful of other churches last year. The Christian Post reported that 88% of messengers voted to remove Saddleback Church and 92% voted to remove Fern Creek Baptish Church for similarly having a female pastor. "It's become clear that this 'fix' will yield A LOT of collateral damage," wrote Greear. "There are churches who genuinely embrace complementarianism even as they differ in some of its applications. Several of our minority leaders (like the National African American Fellowship and California Southern Baptist Convention Executive Director Pete Ramirez) have told us as much. For Hispanics in particular, it really is an issue of nomenclature." The Associated Press indicated that some Asian and Hispanic churches may be at risk of disfellowship, as they have women working in assistant pastor roles. Others refer to women as pastors although they are in fact operating in other faith-based capacities. Besides suggesting that churches where women aren't effectively pastors but are nonetheless referred to as such could be ousted from the convention, Greear insinuated that this action will grease a slippery slope for further amendments. "Who knows what that one will be? The multi-side model? Closed communion? Exroverted women teaching in a mixed Monday evening Bible study?" added Greear. "I’ve been crystal clear on complementarianism and will continue to be. I don’t have to jump through some hoop to prove it, and neither do you." Like Blaze News? Spanish soccer fans sentenced to 8 months in prison for racial chants at player Vinícius Júnior

Three soccer fans were sentenced to eight months in prison and issued a two-year ban from soccer stadiums in Spain after allegedly racially abusing a Brazilian player.During a May 2023 game between top-tier soccer clubs Real Madrid and Valencia, fans of Valencia made racially charged chants in their stadium directed at star player Vinícius Júnior. The game at Mestalla Stadium was delayed for about 10 minutes as the player nicknamed Vini Jr. called out spectators in the crowd, and requested officials put a stop to their racial remarks.Fans were heard continuously chanting "mono" (monkey) as well as "Vinícius die."Following the game, Real Madrid filed a hate-crime complaint and three fans, who remain unnamed, were arrested. The fans were found guilty of a crime against moral integrity with the aggravating circumstance of discrimination based on racist motives, NBC News reported. The eight-month sentence was accompanied by a two-year ban from soccer stadiums, along with the defendants having to pay for all court proceedings.TMZ noted that the punishment was initially a 12-month prison sentence combined with a three-year stadium ban until the accused accepted criminal responsibility, at which point their sentence was reduced.'This ruling is great news regarding the fight against racism in Spain.'Vinícius Júnior has received a considerable amount of verbal abuse from soccer fans between 2023-2024. He was seen crying when thousands of fans chanted "mono" at him during the match in Spain in 2023.Just a couple weeks later in Spain, a mannequin wearing the player's jersey was hung from a bridge by its neck with a rope. The doll was hanging beneath a giant banner that read "MADRID ODIA AL REAL," which translated to "Madrid Hates Real," referring to rival team Real Madrid. In February 2024, Vinícius Júnior was pictured in Morocco playing soccer with some local children. After the public event, a video circulated of young soccer fans recording the player while saying, "Hey black! Hey monkey!" and even, "Here's a slave playing in our neighborhood," a video posted online claimed.During a press conference, Vini Jr. shed tears as he said, "I just want to play football.""I just want to do everything for my club and my family," he added.Javier Tebas, president of Spanish soccer league La Liga, said, "This ruling is great news regarding the fight against racism in Spain.""It redresses the wrong suffered by Vinicius Junior and sends a clear message to those people who go to a football stadium to hurl abuse. La Liga will identify them, report them and there will be criminal consequences for them," Tebas also said.Like Blaze News? Former Big Lots manager says he was fired after following shoplifter outside store in an attempt to help cops locate suspect

A former manager at a Big Lots store in the Rochester, New York, area said he was fired after following a shoplifter — who took a swing at an employee — outside the store and into the parking lot to help police locate the suspect.Pat Guider told WHEC-TV during an interview at his Irondequoit home that he saw the shoplifter take a swing at his assistant manager during the May 10 incident: “What I saw is that he took a swing, like a punch at [the assistant manager],” Guider said while making an uppercut motion with a clenched fist.'The good thing is we have a huge faith in God, a huge faith in God, and everything will work out. It’s just going to be difficult.'Guider also told WHEC that’s the only reason he followed the shoplifter out of the store: “I let people who shoplift leave the store every day. Every day. We just put it in the system like they ask us to do. This was an assault. This wasn’t shoplifting. This was an assault.”Guider told the station he followed the male at a distance through the parking lot of the store while relaying his location to 911 so police might catch the suspect. The suspect got away — and Guider told WHEC he was fired over the incident.“I thought I was doing the right thing,” he told the station. — (@) Guider told WHEC that on May 29 he was called to his district manager’s office and fired over the incident — despite 20 years with the company and a positive review in March. The station in its interview with Guider asked him, “Do you think you did the right thing?” Guider replied to WHEC, “I think I did the right and just thing. The right and just thing.”The station said its reporter found no phone number for Big Lots' CEO or communication chief, so the reporter emailed the company on Tuesday — and then Wednesday and then on Friday — but Big Lots had not responded as of the story's publication.WHEC said a poster in the Big Lots lunchroom warns employees to “never leave the store to pursue, detain, or identify a customer.”The station's reporter asked labor lawyer Paul Keneally at Underberg & Kessler how Guider could have been fired for trying "to help police track down a shoplifter ... how does that happen?”Keneally told WHEC "the company is probably considering the liability of any sort of interaction between the perpetrator and store employee.” The attorney added to the station that likely explains why Big Lots has "a rule in place that the employees are not to do anything, and it’s unfortunate because it sounds like this person was trying to do the right thing."Guider told WHEC, "I did not put myself in jeopardy. I did not put any shoppers in jeopardy."Now without a job — and with two sons in college — Guider noted to the station that he and his wife are trying to figure out how to get health insurance. What's more, at age 62, Guider added to WHEC he's not sure how easy it will be to find another job. “The good thing is we have a huge faith in God, a huge faith in God, and everything will work out," he noted to the station. "It’s just going to be difficult. It’s going to be difficult."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Blaze News original: The fall of 'Pride Month': Comedian Thai Rivera explains why Target and the NFL are slowly walking back their activism

With corporations slowly backing off of their yearly tradition of screaming about gay pride from rooftops in order to hock merchandise, many musicians, comedians, and companies alike are noticing that the threat of being canceled by online mobs is diminishing.Celebrities like Katt Williams and J.K. Rowling powering through attempted cancellations has shown that a temporary wave of online criticism is a storm that can indeed be weathered. This has inspired other comedians to steady the course when offended parties put them in the crosshairs. This could not be more true than in the case of stand-up comedian Thai Rivera. A self-professed bridge-burner who has dealt with multiple campaigns against him, Rivera openly stated to Blaze News that being a master of his craft gives him the confidence to speak openly about taboo subjects. It is with this attitude that Rivera often finds himself at odds with the LGBT activist community, despite its propensity to assume he is aligned with them on every issue.Case in point: Rivera's recent statements on Target's new decision to remove Pride clothing sales from select outlets. This comes a year after the department store was under fire for their "tuck-friendly" bathing suits aimed at transgender people and other Pride products marketed toward children."Whenever it comes to LGBT, what happens is the people that are in charge of the marketing just go too crazy at a point and start trying to do things that nobody, even in the community, is really asking for," Rivera explained."When it comes to marketing towards kids, nobody is asking for that. Especially when it comes to Pride itself, that's a big thing right now where they say, 'Pride is great for kids,' and it's like, since when?!""We've always had kids at Pride because lesbians make mistakes," Rivera joked. "But it was never a push," he continued. Similarly, Rivera said that when Target starting selling "books for kids on gender ideology" and promoting the "tuck-friendly bathing suits," it went too far.'That's what it is with these people: You tell the truth, and they get mad at you.'"The marketing was just off, and it seemed weird that they marketed it for years and [didn't market] it to kids, and then all of sudden they were marketing it to kids, and then we end up where we are now."Reminding the audience that Target exists to make money, Rivera stated that he doesn't put any faith into a company actually sharing his beliefs and neither should folks who consider themselves LGBT."If gays, people of different ethnicities ... if you think any corporation or business actually supports what you are, you're stupid. It really is about making money, and are you marketable and are you profitable."If the product isn't moving, or, even worse, making people turn around and walk out, "then why would you keep it at the front of the store," Rivera asked.Target recently shared its plan for Pride Month 2024, which included dialing back how many stores it sells gay-themed products in.But the company did not back off its ideological support, saying, "At Target, we know our business thrives when we create experiences that foster a sense of belonging. That’s why we support and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month and year-round."Target also stated that it would participate in the Minneapolis Pride parade and support organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign, which explicitly supports sex-change surgeries for children. — (@) 'I don't think trans-women athletes belong in women's sports, not only for physical reasons but because ... can't women have anything?'NFL dissidentsThe NFL's support for Pride initiatives was a widely-discussed topic at the beginning of June 2024, with all but nine teams (and counting) making front-facing posts or webpages in support of certain sexualities. When asked why the NFL is taking so long to recognize that its initiatives aren't popular among fans, especially in comparison to the national anthem protests, Rivera replied, "Because a lot of gay people don't have lives.""If they think you're not supporting them then they'll just start harassing you," he laughed. "I know how all this works because I've been the subject of LGBT 'cancellation' before."Rivera described a scenario of a "few gay people that really have no lives" who will create 10 different email accounts per person and send messages to a particular company to create the feeling that there is a strong backlash and outrage."Sometimes it's as lazy as a copy and paste," he disclosed."I think it happens with sports teams, too. The push is kind of ridiculous though, because there are gays that really like sports. There are trans people that do like sports. But, when it comes down to it, I don't think that we're a market that they should specifically cater to.""I also don't think that there's a lot of us that are expecting that from them," he added. Thai Rivera on the Fall of Pride Month www.youtube.com Trans-canceled"The first time I got canceled by the trans community I don't remember what I said. I'm sure it was something true, though," Rivera said with a smirk. "That's what it is with these people: You tell the truth, and they get mad at you, and they don't realize that I've had life-long trans friends."With that in mind, Rivera said he will talk to, about, or make jokes at the expense of trans people like any other person and not like "they are made of glass."The comedian's resolve is firm in that he isn't afraid of causing offense by telling the truth. An example of such was a time Rivera said he was scrolling his social media feed and was intrigued by an article about LGBT Pride."I was feeling quite prideful that morning, so I decided to click on the article."Rivera recalled reading "the whiniest thing" he's ever read about LGBT Pride and shared his thoughts on the article on Facebook. His commentary on the "whiny" articled inevitably ended up offending a few readers. A person dating a transgender individual tried to start an argument with him, Rivera said, but the comedian wasn't impressed by the outrage and reminded the person that their "boyfriend just turned into their girlfriend nine months ago."After being told several times he was being offensive and not honoring a "trans day of remembrance," Rivera remembered plainly stating the day is "not a thing.""It's like Kwanzaa, who cares?!""I told them," Rivera continued. "You're arguing with a real fag right now, it's not going to be the same situation as when you argue with straight people." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Thai Rivera (@officialthairivera) Pro athlete, pro womanRivera said he understands why some pro-women's sports groups act like "ambulance chasers," trying to sound the alarm on instances when men impede in women's spaces."Unfortunately, I think it is necessary," he admitted.Rivera revealed that he feels groups like the Independent Council on Women's Sports are fighting a just cause and that women should be able to have their own spaces, which he said definitely includes sports and changing rooms. The comic said he is "100%" on the side of women "putting their foot down and saying 'this is for us.'""I don't think trans-women athletes belong in women's sports, not only for physical reasons but because ... can't women have anything? ... I don't know if a lot of people at home have ever seen a trans woman naked, but it is jarring!" he laughed. In terms of scholarships and athletic records, Rivera said that many women are having opportunities taken from them by trans athletes, therefore he said that groups such as ICONS are definitely necessary, even though he sees ideas like women having their own sports as "common sense."Rivera referenced other necessary pushback from figures like J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series."She's got enough money that she can say f*** it."Rowling has not backed off from referring to a plethora of transgender women directly as men and quite literally dared Scottish police to arrest her for the violation of hate speech laws."I'm currently out of the country, but if what I've written here qualifies as an offence under the terms of the new act, I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment," Rowling said in March 2024.Rivera reiterated that a college-age woman should be able to express that she's uncomfortable with a man in her changing room and not be reprimanded for speaking up about it.He concluded by pointing out the unsettling reality of how much a person's livelihood can determine how vocal he or she is about his or her beliefs.A lot of people who take issue with men encroaching in women's' territory "have to keep their mouth shut because they don't want to lose their jobs," he stated.Rivera routinely posts portions of his stand-up comedy on his YouTube channel and is active on his Patreon page.Like Blaze News? Ukrainian outlet with ties to US State Department puts Blaze Media on 'Russian disinformation' watchlist

A Ukrainian publication with an editor in chief who has ties to the U.S. State Department has placed dozens of American politicians, activists, and media outlets — including Blaze Media — on a list of those allegedly known to have shared "Russian disinformation" or otherwise made "anti-Ukrainian statements."On Thursday, Texty.org — an "independent media" outlet that fuses "data journalism projects" with "traditional journalistic genres," according to its website — published an article entitled "Roller Coaster: From Trumpists to Communists. The forces in the U.S. impeding aid to Ukraine and how they do it," which contains a list of more than 75 individuals and nearly 400 entities that have opposed sending aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia.Such claims are 'wishful thinking' and do not work on 'planet reality.'Blaze Media was mentioned on page 34 of a 47-page list. The "anti-Ukrainian" Blaze Media links on the list are all from 2023. They include one Blaze News article, two tweets — one of which shows a clip and quote from Tucker Carlson, who also appears on the Texty.org list — and three segments with Blaze Media cofounder Glenn Beck. Screenshot of Texty.org article listThe Texty.org article did not explain why Blaze Media had been included on the list. Blaze News reached out to the outlet for clarification but did not receive a response. The article clearly presupposes that Ukraine is entitled to American financial support in its efforts against Russia, asserting that "Ukraine's victory is essential for the democratic world." It also seemingly blames Congress for "increased casualties among Ukrainian troops and a gradual retreat by the Ukrainian Armed Forces" because it delayed authorizing more aid by a mere four months. The article even blasted 10 congressional Republicans for simply calling for "a stronger audit" of Ukrainian funding packages.Texty.org does note that it could not establish "direct, proven ties" between most of the people and outlets on its list and the Russian government or known Russian "propogandists." Instead, it said it had gathered evidence that these same people and outlets had spread "Russian disinformation" by echoing "key messages of Russian propaganda" in their arguments against sending Ukraine further aid. Still others are just "useful idiots," it claimed. The Ron Paul Institute countered that the Texty.org article contains "crude disinformation" as well, pointing to the article's assertion that "claims of Nazi dominance and American Biolabs in Ukraine" were "long-debunked myths." Such claims are "wishful thinking" and do not work on "planet reality," RPI claimed.Even Texty.org's understanding of American politics and the identities of some of its supposed opponents is factually dubious. For example, the article includes Blake Masters among the "influential Republicans ... who are known for blocking aid to Ukraine." Masters, however, did not win his bid for the Arizona seat in the U.S. Senate in 2022, and though he is running for Congress as a Republican, he currently has no meaningful influence on American foreign policy. He certainly cannot "block[] aid to Ukraine."Meanwhile, Anatoly Bondarenko, the cofounder of Texty.org, has influenced — or been influenced by — the federal government since he participated in TechCamp, "a public diplomacy program" established by the Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. Return, the tech division of Blaze Media, asked Texty.org to clarify the connection between Bondarenko and the State Department. Thus far, Texty.org has not responded.Curious if @Textyorgua_Eng would like to make a public statement about why you placed @theblaze on a list of Russian disinfo? We’re also curious why your Editor-in-Chief, @dvrnd Anatoly Bondarenko was trained by the @StateDept. https://t.co/zrhyDBK5zK pic.twitter.com/k05fWIBlcS— RETURN (@returndotlife) June 9, 2024 Jason Buttrill, chief researcher for "The Glenn Beck Program," claimed on X that TechCamp has been associated with color revolutions around the globe. "Soooo.... we are on the list. And if anyone has been watching our show for the past few years, you've heard a lot about the use of the State Department's initiative called Tech Camps. More specifically how Color Revolutions usually follow them around... all over the world," he posted to X on Sunday."Isn't it interesting that this org has ties to the State Department and USAID, and their founder was part of Tech Camps? Kind of MORE interesting that we get put on this list after talking about this strategy and how it's used in Color Revolutions. Maybe it's just me..." Buttrill continued. — (@) Texty.org's article also identifies several left-leaning people and outlets, such as Ben Cohen of Ben and Jerry's fame and the anti-war organization CODEPINK, for their supposed pro-Russian and/or anti-Ukrainian stance. It even called out the Democrat congressional group known as "the Squad," even as it admits that "all" eight Squad members ultimately voted for the Ukraine funding bill of April 2024.After the article received severe blowback on social media, Texty.org added a statement to the article, insisting that it had not made an "enemies" or "kill" list. The statement also insisted:These data were collected and published solely to demonstrate the evidence supporting the theses presented in the article. The article itself is not an accusation but a study of the political and media context that influences government decisions regarding further support for Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war.The editorial team of Texty.org.ua does not deny, condemn, or dispute the right of American citizens, media, and institutions to express any opinions or hold any political beliefs. We value and respect freedom of speech, which is essential for a democratic society.Like Blaze News? The CoD HQ launcher has to be one of the least popular additions the series has received in recent years. Oregon Officials Won’t Blow Up Their Recently Beached Whale Carcass — And Repeat The Mistake They Made In 1970

When a dead whale washed ashore on an Oregon beach in late May, it called to mind an incident in 1970 when the state detonated a beached whale with dynamite. This time, however, the state parks department was adamant: "History isn't repeating itself."
