How Hollywood Twists Faith (VIDEO)

A father must do the impossible: sacrifice his son. The son kneels before him, ready to accept his fate. And then, suddenly, both are saved by … A word from an angel? A ram caught in a thicket? No, in this case, the son—Jake Sully’s adopted son, Spider, in Avatar: Fire and Ash—is saved by his remorseful adoptive mother, Neytiri. Just in the nick of time, too. Fire and Ash is in no way a Christian story. In fact, its shamanistic environmentalism is a few light years away from Christianity. But that hasn’t stopped its director, James Cameron, from using Christian themes and imagery to spread his own pseudo theology. For many, it would’ve been just a resonant emotional moment. But for those with a decent rooting in the Bible, they might’ve been struck by the narrative parallels to Abraham and Isaac. And given Cameron’s penchant for cherry-picking biblical motifs throughout his Avatar series, I’m pretty sure those parallels were intentional. This is nothing new, of course, and we shouldn’t be surprised. The gospel is often called the “greatest story ever told,” so why wouldn’t even secular moviemakers want in on that action? And sometimes, Hollywood’s stories—intentionally or not—can make us Christians even more mindful of important biblical themes: Good and evil. Truth and grace. Sin and redemption. Occasionally, movies can strengthen our faith or challenge it in healthy ways. But some filmmakers can use spiritual touchstones to draw us further away from our beliefs. And in some cases, they might even do a little of both. (I’m looking at you, Sinners.) So join Bob Hoose, Emily Tsiao and me as we talk about the intersection of spirituality with cinema—the good, the bad and the just plain ugly. The Red Clay Strays Tease Another Stellar Unreleased Song, “Revival”

An album announcement can’t come soon enough. It seems as if anything that The Red Clay Strays touch lately has turned to gold. After being one of the buzziest bands in the alt. country scene over the past few years, thanks to the success of Moment of Truth and Made by These Moments, the Alabama band broke out in a big way this past November. If you’ve been paying attention to them, you know they were bound to become a mainstay after winning Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2024 Americana Awards, winning New Vocal Duo or Group at the 2025 ACM Awards and scoring a 3x platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their breakout hit, “Wondering Why,” along with a gold certification for their debut album, Moment of Truth. As previously mentioned, however, their big mainstream break happened back in November thanks to their huge night at the 59th annual CMA Awards, delivering a killer performance of their current single, “People Hatin’” and, more importantly, dethroning Old Dominion as Vocal Group of the Year en route to their first-ever CMA win. Riding the highs of their big CMA night, the Strays have kept the pedal to the floor as of late. Not only do they have some major shows scheduled at the likes of Madison Square Garden, TD Garden and back-to-back, sold-out nights at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, but they also released their second single off their upcoming album, “If I Didn’t Know You,” back in February. Given the immense amount of hype surrounding their junior album, which was accidentally confirmed for a summer release date on Joe Rogan’s podcast, fans have been all but begging for new music. Though we’ve only gotten two officially released singles so far, over the past week, RCS has been ramping up teasers for what’s to come on the new record. Last Friday, they teased a rambling, brand new song, “I Don’t Wanna Know.” Yesterday, they returned once again with yet another unreleased track, “Revival.” View this post on Instagram Unlike “I Don’t Wanna Know,” “Revival” has actually been played around a dozen times in concert since it was first debuted live back in September. With that being said, however, this is the first time it’s been posted on any of their official social media accounts. Though it could be nothing more than extra live content on their pages, I find it highly unlikely that they’d post it without intentions of including it on the upcoming record. As for the song itself, it once again sees frontman, Brandon Coleman, leaning heavily into his gospel roots. Delivering yet another jaw-dropping vocal performance, he calls for the broken to find peace in their struggles through the blood of Christ. “Now to the orphan, come find your father And to the widow, come find your love And to the faithless, come be reborn Peace will find you when you’re washed in the blood” This leads to the incredibly anthemic chorus where he insists on them to spark the titular revival, promising they’ll be made stronger through his power. “Come spark revival and be filled with glory And through His power, your broken-hearted story It’ll be made stronger, stronger, stronger, amen It’ll be made stronger, stronger, stronger, amen” As always, “Revival” is looking to be yet another homerun for Red Clay. Though there are so many talented bands in the southern rock/country scene today, there truly isn’t anyone doing it like them at the moment. If you’re a fan of classic-sounding gospel, you won’t want to miss this track when it’s finally released. The Red Clay Strays Tour Dates March 17 – Houston, TX – Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo April 19 – Georgetown, TX – Two Step Inn 2026 April 24 – Indio, CA – Stagecoach 2026 May 1 – Memphis, TN – Riverbeat Festival 2026 May 24 – Norfolk, VA – Patriotic Fest 2026 June 5 – Nashville, TN – CMA Fest June 13 – Columbus, OH – Buckeye Country Superfest 2026 June 18 – Hollywood, FL – Hard Rock Hotel & Casino June 21 – Bloomington, IL – Tailgates N’ Tallboys June 24 – Rexford, MT – The Red Clay Strays Fan Fest June 26 – Calgary, Canada – Country Thunder Alberta 2026 July 11 – St. Paul, MN – Minnesota Country Club 2026 July 17 – Twin Lakes, WI – Country Thunder Wisconsin 2026 July 19 – Cheyenne, WY – Cheyenne Frontier Days July 30 – Columbia, MD – Merriweather Post Pavilion August 1 – Boston, MA – TD Garden August 9 – New York, NY – Madison Square Garden August 15 – Des Moines, IA – Iowa State Fair September 6 – Aspen, CO – Jazz Aspen Snowmass 2026 September 19 – Pryor, OK – Born & Raised 2026 September 26 – Louisville, KY – Bourbon & Beyond October 22 – Nashville, TN – Bridgestone Arena October 23 – Nashville, TN – Bridgestone Arena November 13 – Atlanta, GA – State Farm ArenaThe post The Red Clay Strays Tease Another Stellar Unreleased Song, “Revival” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
