Cryptocurrency Companies Prep $160 Million To Back Pro-Crypto Candidates

Cryptocurrency companies have assembled over $160 million that they plan to deploy to support political candidates who support the industry, with experts indicating that these funds will likely benefit Republicans. Just under $25 million was spent by cryptocurrency companies last year on government relations, with another $5.6 million being spent in the first quarter of 2024. Experts say that the sum is expected to drastically increase this year, with Republicans likely to benefit. “Trump’s acceptance and embrace of crypto is in stark contrast with the overwhelmingly regressive approach to crypto taken by the Biden administration and the wider Democratic Party, which has constantly attacked the industry, in most cases unfairly,” Edward Wilson of Nansen, a blockchain company, explained. “It is likely that the issue of crypto will influence and may even swing the election. That’s because many US-based crypto supporters place crypto as a key issue for them and are fed up with the approach of going after good actors in the space.” “It is likely that the Republicans will receive significantly more in crypto donations — but how much is hard to determine — than the Democrats,” Wilson added, also warning that crackdowns on cryptocurrency threaten to push the industry offshore to other countries. The news comes as former President Donald Trump has become increasingly vocal about his support of the cryptocurrency industry. “I will end Joe Biden’s war on crypto,” Trump said at a recent rally, also adding that his administration “will ensure that the future of crypto and the future of Bitcoin will be made in America.” Trump also recently announced that his campaign would begin accepting donations in cryptocurrency. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP The former president’s support for the industry coincides with broader acceptance of the cryptocurrency tokens, with the Security and Exchange Commission approving exchange-traded funds for Bitcoin in January. The watershed moment preceded a drastic surge in price not just for Bitcoin, which reached a new all-time high of just under $74,000, but for crypto tokens across the board, ranging from smart-contract tokens like Ethereum to so-called “memecoins” like “Dogwifhat.” But it isn’t just Trump who has embraced the cryptocurrency industry. Bernie Moreno, the Republican candidate for United States Senate in Ohio, has also spoken out in favor of the industry. “Our Founding Fathers would have been bitcoiners,” Moreno, who is facing off against Democrat incumbent Sherrod Brown, contended. “They believed in decentralization of power and control.” Moreno also expressed doubt that Democrats would be able to pivot on the issue. “The energy of the Democratic Party is controlled by the extremists like Brown and Elizabeth Warren,” Moreno asserted. “Word is out to the industry that if they’re given four or more years of control, crypto in America is completely dead.” Not everyone is convinced that the cryptocurrency industry’s increased involvement in politics will necessarily benefit Republicans across the country, however. “It’s not clear whether crypto will succeed in influencing elections throughout the country or in close races involving powerful members of Congress such as Sherrod Brown’s battle for re-election in Ohio,” Christopher Devine, a political scientist at the University of Dayton explained. “It’s worth noting that the cryptocurrency industry donated about equally to both parties in 2022,” Devine added before saying “its goals are not particularly partisan or ideological. They want to curry favor with whichever candidate is most likely to win a seat in the next Congress and potentially be able to vote on legislation affecting their industry.”

‘Say Her Name’: Conservative Group Launches Media Blitz Blasting Biden’s Dangerous Open Borders

Conservative non-profit Building America’s Future (BAF) launched a six-figure media campaign blasting President Joe Biden’s dangerous open borders. The group announced that the spot, titled “Again,” will bracket the upcoming presidential debate on Thursday between Biden and former President Donald Trump, running from Wed. June 26-Friday June 28, a press release obtained by The Daily Wire read. The ad was also posted on X with the hashtag “Say Her Name.” The 60-second ad focused on how Biden’s border policy details the story of Rachel Morin, a mother of five from Maryland, who was jogging last summer and was allegedly raped and killed “at the hands of [Victor Antonio Martinez]-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, who was arrested and charged last week,” the release read. “Again” follows “Run,”  Building America’s Future’s viral ad featuring Laken Riley, who was also jogging when she was killed by an illegal immigrant, that aired during Biden’s State of the Union,” the release added. “Run” garnered even more attention after CNN was the only major cable network that refused to air it.” One message in the spot read, “It just keeps happening … Laken Riley wasn’t the first. And in Joe Biden’s America, sadly, she won’t be the last.” During the ad, various news clips run sharing details about Morin’s murder allegedly by “illegal immigrant” Hernandez, who “was wanted for murder… but Biden let him in,” the ad read. “Rachel Morin. Laken Riley. And countless others,” the message in the ad concludes. “They should be alive. Joe Biden’s open border — a nightmare for American women.” It will run in seven key battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, the release noted. Portions of the ad will also be displayed on Billboards and in 2D projections on famous buildings in the metro areas of Atlanta, Georgia, Greensboro, North Carolina,  and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the release noted.  Trump recently called to offer condolences to Patty Morin, the mom of the mother of five who was allegedly raped and murdered by the El Salvador illegal immigrant, prompting a very different reaction than her response to the Biden administration’s seeming indifference to her pain. Patty revealed that no one in the Biden administration had reached out to her after the arrest of Martinez-Hernandez, who was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape in Rachel Morin’s death. “I am deeply touched by President Trump’s kindness and concern,” Patty Morin stated, according to The New York Post. “He was genuine and truly wanted to know how our family was coping. He asked about Rachel and showed honest compassion for her untimely death. His words brought comfort to me during this very difficult time.” Hank Berrien contributed to this piece. House To ‘Withdraw’ January 6 Committee Arguments In Bannon Case

The House will submit a filing seeking to “withdraw” arguments from the January 6 Committee as part of the legal battle in which Steve Bannon, a close ally to former President Donald Trump, is fighting to stay out of prison, GOP leaders said on Wednesday. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) revealed their game plan in a statement after a vote of the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group — which POLITICO reported came down along party lines. “The Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group voted 3-2 to file a brief with the D.C. Circuit in the case against Steve Bannon,” the group said. “The amicus brief will be submitted after Bannon files a petition for rehearing en banc and will be in support of neither party.” They said the brief will “withdraw certain arguments made by the House earlier in the litigation about the organization of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol during the prior Congress” when Democrats led the House. “House Republican Leadership continues to believe” that former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “abused her authority when organizing the Select Committee,” Johnson, Scalise, and Emmer added in concluding their statement. Democrats rejected two picks by then-Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to be GOP members on the panel, after which he withdrew all his recommendations and Pelosi picked Trump critics Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) to join instead. A jury convicted Bannon, a former Trump aide, on two counts of contempt of Congress in 2022 for not complying with a subpoena from the committee that rejected a claim of executive privilege. He was later given a sentence of four months of incarceration. Earlier this month, a federal judge ordered Bannon to report to prison on July 1, which is Monday. Bannon asked the Supreme Court to allow him to remain free while fighting the contempt sentence after a federal appeals court panel denied his request. Bannon told Axios in a text message, responding to plans for the House filing a brief in his case, “Speaker Johnson and House leadership showed tremendous courage in repudiating the illegally constituted J6 Committee and its activities/investigations.” Three other ex-White House officials who refused to cooperate with subpoenas — Peter Navarro, Dan Scavino, and Mark Meadows — were found to be in contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with subpoenas from the January 6 Committee. The Department of Justice declined to prosecute Scavino and Meadows, but did open up cases and secure convictions against the others. Navarro, who served as a White House trade adviser, has already begun serving a four-month prison sentence. Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), chairman of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, has already filed a brief with the Supreme Court, claiming steps taken by the January 6 Committee against Bannon were “factually and procedurally invalid.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP A group of more than two dozen House Republicans have also put forward a resolution that aims to rescind January 6 Committee subpoenas against Trump’s associates and withdraw recommendations that they be held in contempt of Congress. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), chairman of the now-defunct January 6 Committee, told Fox News the resolution “will have no impact” and the subpoenas “were litigated exhaustively, with contempt of Congress charges going as high as the Supreme Court.” The GOP-led House voted earlier this month to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress because he refused to comply with subpoenas for audio from an investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents. Johnson vowed to go to court after the Department of Justice refused to prosecute Garland because the president asserted executive privilege over the tapes. Some are pushing to empower the House sergeant-at-arms to detain Garland until he complies.
