NBC: Axing USAID Means People Will Die in Cambodia From U.S. Landmines

Making sure all sob stories are fed to the masses, the liberal media are pulling out all the stops to defend and justify the need to keep the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in place (and offer no suggestions for reform). Friday’s NBC Nightly News sent its China-based correspondent Janis Mackey Frayer to Cambodia to declare innocent Cambodians will die without USAID funding for nonprofits to remove landmines from the Vietnam War. Anchor Lester Holt had the foreboding tease: “We’re back in a moment with the human cost of cutting foreign aid. We take you to Cambodia with life and death consequences.” Ah, so we’ve moved from kids in Sudan are going to die en masse if they don’t get their only meal (and with the U.N. seemingly nowhere to be found or mentioned) to....people will die in Cambodia due to 50-year-old landmines? Holt cued to Frayer with the declaration that there’s “chaos...around the world” because of the Trump administration’s desire to shrink the size of government. This is from Friday’s ‘NBC Nightly News’ – USAID is apparently funding demining for unexploded U.S. landmines in Cambodia from the Vietnam War, so the argument here is that the Trump administration is going to be killing people.... pic.twitter.com/hGZvfr6djv — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) February 17, 2025 “The delicate and dangerous task of clearing unexploded bombs in Cambodia. Deminers using simple tools and every day finding something,” Frayer began ahead of an interaction with Bill Morse, the head of a mysterious, unnamed nonprofit (Cambodian Self-Help Demining) that receives USAID money to defuse the mines. After showing a mine being blown up, she explained that “[m]any of the munitions here are American dropped in rampant U.S. bombing during the Vietnam War” and thus the U.S. has “for decades...helped to clean up the mess until President Trump froze all foreign aid for 90 days.” Of course, Morse was ready to drop the money quote for NBC about what will happen without USAID keeping CSHD funded: “They die. They don’t have a job. It’s going to affect everybody. Nobody knows quite what to do right now.”  Frayer would later say 65,000 Cambodians are “maimed or worse” by such mines. Frayer added America “spends about $72 billion a year on foreign aid, much of it delivered through USAID, which was abruptly dismantled, upending every kind of program on the planet, from HIV/AIDS treatment to fighting hunger though a U.S. judge ruled the White House can’t cancel funding already in place.” Adding there’s a “realtime impact of the stop work order” with “charities facing collapse” (and thus raising questions about whom do they answer to for accountability if they’re all-but government agencies), Frayer fretted “teams are having to scale back, so fewer bombs are getting cleared” with it taking “over two months to clear” just half of a nine-and-a-half-acre field. She closed on an ominous note: “Already, China is filling funding gaps, pledging $4.4 million to keep demining going here and decades of work still ahead.” To see the relevant NBC transcript from February 14, click here.

Critics blast liberal reporter for seizing upon hurricane devastation to belittle North Carolinians' beliefs

The Guardian, a leftist publication based in the U.K., is facing criticism over a Sunday article that seized upon the devastation wrought in North Carolina by Hurricane Helene as an opportunity to belittle locals' beliefs, attack President Donald Trump, and push a climate alarmist agenda. The article was penned by the Guardian's "senior climate justice reporter" Nina Lakhani — a British national who previously suggested that nTrump was a terrorist and a fascist; pushed the Russian collusion hoax; claimed that America's border wall created "environmental and cultural scars"; advocated for banning white men from positions of power; and called the British monarchy a "white supremacist institution." After insinuating that Trump and Elon Musk were to blame for delayed disaster relief, the Guardian reporter expressed concern that in her travels through Buncombe County, North Carolina, "the climate crisis was largely absent from people's thoughts" in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Resident Twila Little Brave, for instance, told the Guardian about her struggles in the wake of the hurricane, her gratitude about being alive, and how the efforts of her community, not her government, helped her survived the ordeal. Sharon Jarvis, a 59-year-old woman who lives on a mountain slope on the outskirts of the community, criticized the Biden administration's disaster relief or lack thereof and noted that Christian relief groups, local churches, and other volunteer or nonprofit groups — not the government — stepped into the breach to help. David Crowder, the pastor at a Barnardsville Baptist church, discussed tough living conditions along with potential threats to local pride and the storm's transformation of the landscape. Since Brave, Jarvis, and Crowder failed to furnish Lakhani with the talking points the foreign reporter needed for her preferred narrative, Lakhani clumsily shoehorned them into the piece herself with the help of fellow travelers. 'We've failed to communicate this in a way that reaches some of the most vulnerable people.' Lakhani insinuated that Brave and others who "have found comfort from attributing Helene to God's will" were ignoramuses, noting that "the science is clear: the intensity of the wind and rain during Helene was supercharged by the climate crisis, and the frequency and severity of such storms will increase as the planet continues to warm — driven by the world's dependence on the burning of fossil fuels." While dismissive of locals' religious beliefs, Lakhani appeared more than willing to accept as gospel truth an assertion from Thomas Karl, the former head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Centers for Environmental Information, that might rely on misleading and inaccurate claims. Lakhani shared Karl's belief that "these events will become more intense and stronger. But somehow we've failed to communicate this in a way that reaches some of the most vulnerable people, while they're getting false information from places they trust." The government watchdog group Protect the Public's Trust noted in a complaint last year that the NOAA's Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters tracking project relies on economic data and cannot as a consequence "distinguish the effect of climate change as a factor on disaster losses from the effect of human factors like increases in the vulnerability and exposure of people and wealth to disaster damages due to population and economic growth." 'This is a vile, mean-spirited article.' The so-called Billions Project not only has been been cited in over 1,200 articles but has been characterized by the U.S. Global Change Research Program as a "climate change indicator" and had its data cited in 2023 as evidence that "extreme events are becoming more frequent and severe" in the same federal program's "Fifth National Climate Assessment." Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. noted in a study published June in the Springer Nature journal npj Natural Hazards: NOAA incorrectly claims that for some types of extreme weather, the dataset demonstrates detection and attribution of changes on climate timescales. Similarly flawed are NOAA's claims that increasing annual counts of billion dollar disasters are in part a consequence of human caused climate change. NOAA's claims to have achieved detection and attribution are not supported by any scientific analysis that it has performed. Despite outstanding questions about the veracity of claims of intensifying weather, Lakhani framed Karl's statement as the "clear science," then echoed his concern about the germination of alternate viewpoints regarding the storm and broader weather patterns. Lakhani complained that "false rumors and conspiracy theories," as well as "fossil fuel-friendly" narratives, appear "to resonate among even those directly hit by floods and fires." When criticizing so-called "disinformation," Lakhani turned to a fellow traveler to shore up her narrative — Sean Buchan, the so-called research director at the leftist censorship outfit Climate Action Against Disinformation. Buchan appeared to insinuate that rural North Carolinians and other disaster-struck Americans were not smart enough to grasp "climate science" because it is "complicated and nuanced and requires patience." As a result of locals' supposed inability to understand what he and Lakhani believe to be true, Buchan suggested that "propagandists and bad actors will show up in person or online to fill the information vacuum." Matt Van Swol, a former nuclear scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River National Laboratory, called the Guardian article "absolutely disgusting." "This is a vile, mean-spirited article from The Guardian," continued Van Swol. "Everything mountain-folk HATE about big city reporters is covered in this article." Like Blaze News? Border agent accused of being cartel member who smuggled illegal aliens into the US

A United States Customs and Border Protection agent stands accused of being a Mexican drug cartel member who exploited his position to smuggle illegal aliens into the country.CBP officer Manuel Perez Jr., 32, was terminated from the agency when he was arrested on federal human- and drug-smuggling charges on February 8, according to the El Paso Times.'By all measures, he lives in Mexico.'Perez, a U.S. citizen born in California, was stationed at the Paso del Norte International Bridge in El Paso, Texas. If found guilty, he could face up to a decade in prison.A special agent with the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility testified that Perez was a member of a drug cartel.“Multiple witnesses said he belonged to La Linea cartel in Mexico,” the special agent stated. The agent explained that intercepted phone calls from smugglers promised a “100% guaranteed” border crossing, claiming that they had “the officer in their pocket.”Perez’s lawyer, Ruben Ortiz, claimed that the alleged co-conspirators could be lying about his client’s involvement. He accused them of “pointing fingers, perhaps to gain favor from the government in their own cases.”“The cooperating witnesses are telling them (federal investigators) whatever they want to hear for now,” Ortiz stated. The agent testified that Perez admitted to federal investigators that he received $2,500 for each illegal alien he allowed to pass through his inspection lane at the southern border. Investigators revealed that Perez permitted a gray Nissan Pathfinder carrying illegal aliens to cross the border multiple times. The exact number of illegal immigrants, including children, that Perez allegedly allowed into the U.S. remains unclear.Federal investigators estimated that Perez could have been paid up to $400,000 since December 2023 for his involvement in the illegal smuggling operation. He is also accused of participating in a cocaine distribution scheme from November 2019 through February 5, 2025. Perez has no prior history of criminal activity or substance abuse. The investigation into Perez uncovered that the CBP officer allegedly spent approximately 80% of his time in Mexico despite claiming he resided in El Paso.“By all measures, he lives in Mexico,” prosecutors argued. The special agent testified that Perez was always armed and had an armed security detail with him while he was in Mexico.Ortiz stated that his client spent significant time in Mexico because he had a girlfriend living there. One witness claimed that Perez had expressed a preference to be detained in Mexico if arrested so that he could continue his illegal activities from inside the jail.Mexican agents reportedly searched Perez’s rental property in Juárez and discovered $18,000 in cash. U.S. Magistrate Judge Miguel Torres rejected Ortiz’s request to release Perez on bond with GPS monitoring. The judge determined there was "no question" Perez posed a flight risk, citing the extensive time he spent in Mexico. Consequently, Perez will remain in jail without bond.Like Blaze News? Watch Trump skewer CNN’s Kaitlin Collins for pulling a Jim Acosta

The mainstream media has discredited itself for years by being nothing more than the Democrat Party’s propaganda machine. CNN is among the worst of these radical leftist news outlets. Even though its ratings are abysmal, the network continues to trudge down the tired anti-Trump path. At a recent press conference, CNN’s Kaitlin Collins was brutally silenced when she tried to pull a Jim Acosta and speak out of turn. Pat Gray of “Pat Gray Unleashed” plays the clip of Collins’ ruthless skewering. “Mr. President, you won the White House in part because of high inflation. If your tariffs make prices go up …” Collins began before President Trump cut her off. “Excuse me, we haven’t asked you to speak yet, please,” he said tartly before turning back to the cameras to continue showcasing the executive order he’d just finished signing. “He does not like her,” laughs co-host Keith Malinak. But Trump wasn’t done with Collins just yet. In the same press conference, when Collins asked his thoughts regarding Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) voting against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Cabinet confirmation, Trump took the question as an opportunity to take another jab at Collins. “If I didn't come along, the Republican Party wouldn't even exist right now. Mitch McConnell never really had it. He had an ability to raise money because of his position as leader, which anybody could do. You could do it even, and that's saying a lot,” he retorted. Pat and the “Unleashed” panel can’t help but howl in laughter at what they regard as a well-deserved public shaming. To see the footage and hear the panel’s analysis, watch the clip above. Want more from Pat Gray?To enjoy more of Pat's biting analysis and signature wit as he restores common sense to a senseless world, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.
