CBS’s Stephen Colbert wrapped up his week of live shows from Chicago on the final night of the Democratic National Convention by hyping Kamala Harris’s acceptance speech as “everything we've been waiting for.” To cap it all off, he welcomed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for some additional party promotional material. During his monologue, Colbert noted, “All this week, the DNC has been a big TV hit. On Tuesday, the DNC crushed night two of the RNC by 39 percent.”     Colbert had an idea as to why, “One reason could be the speakers. Night two featured Michelle and Barack Obama, while the RNC's second night closed with Lara Trump and Marco Rubio. That's like saying, ‘Sorry, we don't have coke. Is diarrhea okay?’" As for the actual nominee, Colbert teed up a clip of Harris by recalling, “Harris had this warning about Trump.” In the clip, Harris warned, “Understand he is not done.” Going full fanboy, Colbert responded, “Madame Vice President, I politely disagree ‘cause after you roasted him this hard, I think he's well done. There we go. Kamala Harris's speech was everything we've been waiting for all week. She hit her opponent on his policy failures. She hit him on his dereliction of duty. She hit him on his lies, his treason, and his crimes and his crimes and his crimes. She is a prosecutor in the trial of Donald J. Trump. He is guilty as charged and now it is time to sentence him to four to eight years of President Harris.”     Harris wasn’t the only one who received copious amounts of praise. During his interview with Ocasio-Cortez, Colbert gushed over President Joe Biden, as if he wasn't forced out: Joe Biden has gotten a lot of praise this week, and I just don't think we can praise him enough for the courageous and patriotic decision he made. When George Washington got to the end of his second term and willingly set down his office, King George said quote, ‘If he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world.’ And no one since Washington has laid down this office in quite the same way by his own volition… What do you have to say about President Biden's choice?” Ocasio-Cortez did likewise, “I think, similarly to George Washington, President Biden did this in order to not just establish, but preserve American democracy, and I think it is one of the largest acts of political selflessness that we may see in our entire lives, and he deserves an enormous amount of credit for the kind of character that it takes to do that.” Later in the interview, Colbert came down with a heavy case of selection bias, “The Democratic Party has got a few in important firsts. First black president, first female vice president, first female presidential nominee, first speaker of the House, first person of color to lead the House Dems. Why do you think those firsts are established by the Democrats when either party has an opportunity to do that?” Ocasio-Cortez claimed it was because “it really comes down to what we fight for in living our values, which is gender equality, racial diversity, civil rights, housing equality. And also, and it's not just the civil and gender and orientation and identity rights that we protect.” Of course Colbert didn’t mention the first female Supreme Court justice, black Secretary of State, first black female Secretary of State, or first post-Reconstruction black senator from the Deep South, but that would upset the narrative.   Here is a transcript for the August 22-23 show: CBS The Late Show with Stephen Colbert 8/23/2024 12:02 AM ET STEPHEN COLBERT: All this week, the DNC has been a big TV hit. Over a month has passed since the Trump assassination attempt and still, nothing seems to add up. Not only did Trump’s Secret Service bodyguards fail to protect him, but he was denied more security despite a known Iranian threat. Even if it’s all just sheer incompetence, it’s still incredibly troubling. “One of the things I worry about is the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump, which exposed how the paper tiger of the Secret Service, how they were not the James Bonds of the world,” investigative journalist and author Gerald Posner tells Glenn Beck. Posner believes this “might encourage a copycat” who realizes that “the system is vulnerable.” However, Glenn isn’t so sure that it can just be chalked up to incompetence — and that the system might be working just as it’s supposed to. “This is conspiracy central,” Glenn comments. “Everything the government is doing, everything the Secret Service is doing, the FBI, is not normal. And if you don’t want conspiracy theories, they’re acting exactly the wrong way.” “You hit the nail on the head,” Posner agrees. “The government in this case is not only hiding information from the American public, from investigators, from researchers, we’re getting some members in Congress who are getting whistleblowers who are coming forward.” “That’s not the way to get information when the former president of the United States came within an inch of being killed,” he continues. “They should have learned from the Kennedy assassination; they didn’t. They should have learned from the King assassination, cover-ups do not work well.” “And it doesn’t have to be the cover-up of a murder. It’s just the cover-up of the truth,” he adds. CNN host Dana Bash suggested this week that this year's Democratic National Convention was strategically geared toward men with testosterone deficits, particularly those averse to type A male personalities and machismo displays.Jake Tapper told fellow CNN talking heads Bash and Abby Phillip Wednesday that whereas women "overwhelmingly" support Harris, men tend to support former President Donald Trump. An Economist/YouGov poll released this week revealed that 51% of women who are registered voters indicated they support Harris; 38% said they supported Trump. Alternatively, 49% of male respondents said they intend to vote for Trump, and 42% said they were going to vote for Harris. "There's the gender gap. Then there's the idea that for the last month, the Democratic Party has been rallying around a woman at the top of the ticket," said Bash. "Which is — the only other time they did it, which is in 2016. And it has been noteworthy to see how they are learning about what to do and how to confront Donald Trump as the opponent to a woman. 2016 and now — very different campaigns, very different female candidates." According to Bash, this time around, Democrats are attempting to appeal to more effeminate men. 'There is a contrast that is going to be on display tonight, here.' "They are doing so in trying to put forward male figures, Tim Walz being one of them, Doug Emhoff last night, who can speak to men out there who might not be the sort of testosterone-laden, you know, gun-toting kind of guy who wants to listen to Hulk Hogan and the kind of players that came out at the RNC or might want to listen to that," said Bash. "But also, in addition, understand that it's okay in 2024 to be a man comfortable in his own skin who supports a woman." "That's something that they really are trying to work on with male voters beyond the base," added Bash. After the allusion to low-testosterone men, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Doug Emhoff — who recently admitted having an affair during his first marriage — Jake Tapper referenced a previous conversation about "different definitions of masculinity in 2024" and suggested the Republican National Convention had alternatively been "testosterone-y," citing speeches from UFC CEO Dana White, Kid Rock, and Hulk Hogan as examples. After expressing dissatisfaction with Hulk Hogan's recent joke about body-slamming Kamala Harris, Abby Phillip said, "When we talk about the kind of testosterone that they put on display at the RNC, that's what it was. There is a contrast that is going to be on display tonight, here. There are going to be people associated with Planned Parenthood, the Human Rights Campaign — the LGBTQ+ organization." "They are going to be putting those people on the stage to talk about a different version of America," continued Phillip. "But for Democrats, it's always this balancing act between feeding the need for their base, to hear these messages of affirmation about a sort of rainbow coalition, if you will, of their party. But they do also have to talk to the people, who maybe they're not comfortable with the Hulk Hogans, but they do want the party to speak to them right now." 'You have a lot of younger men admiring the strength of Trump.' While Democrats are allegedly striving to appeal to those men who feel uncomfortable "with the Hulk Hogans," young American men are increasingly turning conservative and orienting toward strength contra cosmopolitan values. The Guardian recently noted that whereas in 2016, 51% of young men identified or leaned toward the Democratic Party, that number dropped last year to 39%. In the months since, young men have begun to favor Republican control of Congress and have taken even more of a shine to Trump. "This idea of America needing someone who is a strong masculine figure — I think the Republican campaign this year is doing it even in a more pronounced and overt way than it did in 2016," Melissa Deckman, CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute, told the Guardian. "You have a lot of younger men admiring the strength of Trump — or what they think is strong." Deckman indicated that in 2022, 49% of Gen Z men said that the U.S. had become "too soft and feminine." Last year, she said that 60% of the cohort said the same. 'The message is too feminine: 'Everything you're doing is destroying the planet.' There are some inside the Democratic Party who have raised the alarm about the apparent feminization project under way, including Democratic strategist James Carville. "If you listen to Democratic elites — NPR is my go-to place for that — the whole talk is about how women, and women of color, are going to decide this election," Carville told the New York Times earlier this year. "I'm like: 'Well, 48 percent of the people that vote are males. Do you mind if they have some consideration?'" Carville zeroed in on one possible reason Harris' predecessor was shedding support among minority voters and potentially alienating men: "A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females." Citing research by the Young Men Research Initiative, the Guardian noted that Harris is unlikely to perform better with young male voters than Biden. "'Don't drink beer. Don't watch football. Don't eat hamburgers. This is not good for you,'" continued Carville. "The message is too feminine: 'Everything you're doing is destroying the planet. You've got to eat your peas.'" Like Blaze News?
