NewsBusters Podcast: CNN's Profane Malice Erupts on Jake Tapper's Show

Nick Fondacaro broke a story on how debate moderate Jake Tapper's show aired a nasty hit piece that spurred a defamation lawsuit from a man named Zachary Young working to evacuate people out of Afghanistan. Internal messages show profane malice from reporter Alex Marquardt and others. It's no one's idea of idealistic investigative journalism. It sounds like Gotcha journalism. In messages found by Young's lawyers, Marquardt said he wanted to “nail this Zachary Young mfucker” and thought the story would be Young’s “funeral.” On that declaration of wanting to “nail” Young, CNN editor Matthew Philips responded: “gonna hold you to that cowboy!” When Marquardt notified Young that CNN would be publishing a story about him, and gave him only two hours to respond, he was upset when Young replied. Marquardt messaged a colleague, “fucking Young just texted.” CNN did not respond to our request for a response. A judge ruled that CNN can be sued for punitive damages, making it possible CNN could face a punishment to rival Fox News in the Dominion Voting Machines case. Young's lawyer Vel Freedman told Fondacaro: "CNN claims to be the 'most trusted name in news,' but their internal documents show that the only thing you can trust CNN to do is ignore the facts, push an agenda, and hurt innocent people. We’re looking forward to trial." Plus: On Monday morning, CNN morning host Kasie Hunt abruptly cut off Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt and ended the interview because Leavitt asserted that debate moderators Tapper and Dana Bash have an established record of bias against Trump. Why end the interview when she's unmissably correct on the facts here?  Monday's edition of The View carried Whoopi Goldberg's bizarre assertion that "The media has pretty much always been fair to each side," and "we have to tell you both sides. That's why Alyssa's here. That's why Ana's here, because we don't all think the same way." Any exposure to this show demonstrates that Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro aren't serious Republican dissenters. Meghan McCain added real dissent and a measure of difficulty for liberal and Democrat guests.  Enjoy the podcast below, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

The Horrific Story Of Scott Pettigrew, The ‘Tenant From Hell’ Who Murdered His Elderly Roommate

In 2016, 66-year-old Anita Cowen filed a restraining order against her roommate Scott Pettigrew, alleging that he was terrorizing her in her own home. Days later, Cowen’s dead body was found floating in her pool. "Justin Trudeau is FINISHED" as Canadians take to the streets | Redacted with Clayton Morris

Canadians have had enough of the Trudeau policies pushing gender ideology and other woke programs on their kids. UTL COMMENT:- So Justin is friends with china & friends with the Ukraine and China is friends with Russia. Make that make sense lol. The same goes for my country Australia. Maybe your country too? Sounds like they’re all on the same team to me, at the higher levels. Perhaps they all have the same boss? It doesn’t pass the sniff test for me....I smell a turd and you cannot polish a turd to remove that odour....

Rep. Jamaal Bowman and the Toxic Rot of the Squad

Rep. Jamaal Bowman and the Toxic Rot of the Squad

“We are gonna show f—ing AIPAC the power of the motherf—ing South Bronx.” So declared Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) to an ecstatic audience in the Bronx last weekend in a profanity-laced tirade against Israel and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. “People ask me why I got a foul mouth,” Bowman mused to the crowd, offering this explanation: “What am I supposed to do? You coming after me. You coming after my family. You coming after my children. I’m not supposed to fight back? I’m not supposed to fight back? We’re gonna show them who the f— we are.” But then, last weekend in the Bronx, the old anti-Israel demon once again took possession of Bowman. Bowman once again showed who he is. His words speak volumes. Last fall, Bowman had dismissed reports of Hamas raping Israeli women after the October 7 invasion as mere “propaganda.” Now, Bowman was at it again. He told his supporters who the real enemy is. “We are not gonna stay silent while the U.S. tax dollar kills babies and women and children,” averred Bowman. He said of his Republican opponent in November: “My opponent supports genocide. My opponent and AIPAC are the ones destroying our democracy. And it is on us, it is on all of us to save our democracy and save our collective humanity. Because this race is about our collective humanity.”(READ MORE from Paul Kengor: You Can Never Have Enough Kids) This, ladies and gentlemen, is Rep. Jamaal Bowman, an elected member of Congress. It is also the Squad and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Initially, the Squad was defined by Congressgirl Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), the odious Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and the hysterical, perpetually weeping Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). The three young members of Congress literally became DSA poster girls, with their images splashed throughout the organization’s promotional material. They also comprised the worst, most radical, hard-left members of Congress. They hailed less from the Democratic Party than the Democratic Socialists of America, the self-proclaimed “largest socialist organization in the United States.” In its 2021 convention statement, the DSA addressed its 94,915 members as “comrades.” As readers here know, I’ve tracked the DSA for years. As a researcher and scholar of communism/socialism, dealing with the ideological stench of groups like the DSA is an unfortunate occupational hazard. In one of my first dispatches on the DSA for The American Spectator, I quoted Young Turks founder Cenk Uygar, who had allied and plotted with the DSA. “What we need to do is take over the Democratic Party,” urged Uygar. “We’re going to primary all of the establishment Democrats…. We’re going to primary all vulnerable Democrats.” Scheming with the DSA and its members-candidates, Uygur hoped: “We want hundreds. We want to replace Congress.” He said that if they succeeded in electing a dozen or two AOCs, Omars, or Tlaibs, “People would freak the hell out.” Well, the freak show is in process, as more and more DSA-affiliated members have gotten elected as Democrats. In the process, the race-and gender-obsessed weirdos on the Left hoped that all elected DSA-types would be minorities. What could be better than that? Moving forward, a couple DSA guys got elected to Congress, too. And the guys weren’t white! Yahoo! Namely, in November 2022, Jamaal Bowman of New York and Greg Casar of Texas got elected. The Squad was expanding, diversifying, as was the DSA’s presence in Congress. Since then, Jamaal Bowman has particularly stood out for his obnoxiousness. He has vigorously contended with Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib for the dubious distinction as the craziest member of Congress. It’s a tough call to judge who’s the nuttiest, though Bowman arguably became the front runner last year when he pulled the fire alarm in the Capitol Building while Congress was in session. This led the House to censure him, no doubt because those members of Congress are “RACISTS!!!” Bowman yanked the fire alarm because there was a presumed “emergency.” He had to “save democracy,” after all. When not pulling fire alarms in Congress, Bowman is setting other environs ablaze with incendiary statements, including his Bronx-burning diatribe against Israel last weekend. I can attest as a close watcher of the DSA that such statements from Bowman are no surprise. Go to rallies or online chats among DSA members or read their literature and you’ll see that such anti-Israel sentiment is typical. You’ll hear as much about “Free Palestine” from DSA members as you’ll hear about their racist, anti-Semitic buddy Karl Marx. Dominant issues among the DSA rank and file are gender, sex, race, and Israel-Palestine. Much of the latter reeks of anti-Semitism. And of course, this isn’t just in online chat rooms. Tlaib and Omar have been two of the most open anti-Semites on the floor of the House of Representatives. The anti-Semitic bilge spewed by its members has been a major wakeup call to Jewish members of the DSA, just as the campus uprisings at places like Columbia University have been so sobering to Jewish liberals nationwide. The liberal Jewish publication Forward recently reported, “The DSA was broadly condemned for celebrating the Hamas attacks on Israel at a demonstration in Times Square on Oct. 7 — the day of the assault.” (READ MORE: Countering the Criticisms Aimed at Ronald Reagan) These fireworks have prompted a moment of reckoning within DSA. As for Jamaal Bowman’s antics, he has presented a particularly challenging problem for the DSA to navigate in New York City. He has struggled to remain within the organization’s “good graces.” The DSA actually had looked to expel him in late 2021. As that internal battle raged, the Left’s lunatic fringe sided with Bowman. The hideous Jacobin magazine (sickeningly named after the French revolutionaries that beheaded over 40,000 people between 1793-94) urged in a March 2024 headline, “Jamaal Bowman Deserves the Left Support.” The controversy has festered. Two weeks ago, on June 10 and June 11, there were major stories in both the New York Times and New York Post (respectively) on Bowman’s struggles. The Times headline estimated, “Bowman Makes Amends With Democratic Socialists After Rift Over Israel.” Or so it seemed. Or so Bowman hoped for electoral reasons. Looking to get reelected, Bowman has scrambled to cover his tracks, which is about as easy as removing fingerprints from a Capitol Building fire alarm. The New York Post headline put it this way, “NY ‘Squad’ Rep. Jamaal Bowman exposed for ‘lies’ about Israel support as he pushes for Democratic Socialists’ backing.” Bowman has been trying to recapture that backing. But then, last weekend in the Bronx, the old anti-Israel demon once again took possession of Bowman. He unleashed himself just as he seemed back in cahoots with the DSA. In fact, it was just last weekend that the DSA’s Action Network had launched a get-out-the-vote campaign for the congressman. One wonders what those comrades thought as they watched Rep. Jamaal Bowman uncork himself in the Bronx. Any regrets, comrades? The reality is that this toxic stench has stunk up the ranks of the DSA (and the Squad) for years. That rot has reared its ugly head yet again. I’m glad to see it finally getting exposed. The post Rep. Jamaal Bowman and the Toxic Rot of the Squad appeared first on The American Spectator | USA News and Politics.

Trump Shouldn’t Cozy Up To Wall Street

Donald Trump garnered a rare rebuke from many otherwise loyal supporters last week in the wake of comments he made on the All-In Podcast, a show hosted by four Silicon Valley executives. The comments  —and the ensuing backlash — revolved around Trump’s response to a host’s demand that the former president “promise” to “give us more ability to import the best and brightest from around the world to America.” (Polished industry-speak for more foreign workers). To that, Trump replied: You graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country. And that includes junior colleges, too. Anybody graduates from a college — you go in there for two years or four years — if you graduate or you get a doctorate degree from a college, you should be able to stay in this country. Later, bemoaning the fact that foreign graduates of U.S. colleges couldn’t stay in the country after graduating, Trump promised: “That is going to end on day one.” Trump’s natural base lies in Middle America rather than the C-suites of Wall Street or Silicon Valley. The comments echoed what Trump reportedly said to “a group of America’s most powerful chief executives” in a meeting earlier this month. A New York Times report on the meeting — which included “dozens of leading chief executives, including Tim Cook of Apple, Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, Doug McMillon of Walmart and Charles W. Scharf of Wells Fargo” — detailed Trump’s efforts to “reassure” the business tycoons with promises of more corporate tax cuts and “talk[ing] up the importance of high-skilled immigration, saying he knew businesses needed these workers.” Per the Times: Mr. Trump said he thought it was “wrong” that people who made sacrifices to come to America and attend top U.S. schools should have to go home to their countries, one of the people said. Another person who was in the room recalled that Mr. Trump made the point that the high-skilled immigrants who received an American education could either be successful in the U.S. or in their home countries. He said that the best and the brightest were needed to help America, this person said. As many conservatives have already explained at length, the idea is bad — very, very bad — on its face. In a moment where immigration — both legal and illegal — is drowning the country, at the same time as the U.S. education system is more broken than it ever has been in living memory, stapling green cards to every foreigner’s diploma would simultaneously make both even worse. It would exacerbate discrimination against native-born Americans in higher education, boxing them out of their own country’s education system (and by extension, the pipeline to the American middle and upper-middle classes); it would further displace American workers (something the H-1B visa system is already very much doing); and it would twist and pervert the incentive structures for universities to heretofore-unseen ends, converting many colleges into de facto green card mills. (For an example of this in practice, look to Canada, where diploma-for-pay mills posing as colleges are cranking out tens of thousands of “international students” a year, due to the country’s college-to-permanent-residency pipeline). (READ MORE from Nate Hochman: Against Juneteenth) It’s entirely possible that Trump, a man known for his exaggerated manner of speaking, didn’t really mean what he said. As many were quick to point out, the former president made similar comments on the campaign trail in 2016, and subsequently fought to lower legal immigration rates, including as it pertained to visas. The Trump campaign itself rushed to clarify the comments, pledging to keep only the most “skilled” and “thoroughly vetted college graduates who would never undercut American wages or workers.” But even if the comments were meaningless on substance, they demonstrate an effort on Trump’s part to woo the corporate elites — both in his remarks on last week’s podcast, and during his meeting with wealthy executives earlier this month. Another New York Times piece today (“C.E.O.s Are Frustrated With Biden. That Doesn’t Mean They Embrace Trump”) outlines why that approach is unlikely to bear fruit: While a “number of prominent figures in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street … have grown increasingly vocal in their criticism of Mr. Biden, their praise of former President Donald J. Trump, or both,” the Times writes, “that shift mostly reflects movement among executives who already supported Republican politicians but had not previously embraced Mr. Trump. There is little evidence of a major shift in allegiance among executives away from Mr. Biden and toward Mr. Trump.” (READ MORE: Oh, You Thought This Was About Basketball?) Trump’s natural base lies in Middle America rather than the C-suites of Wall Street or Silicon Valley. Those are the men and women who thronged to his populist message in 2016; who drove hours to hear him speak; who devoted their nights and weekends to canvassing, knocking doors, and get-out-the-vote operations for him, both in 2016 and 2020. If Trump wants to fight for them, he must fight against the managers of global capital who have hollowed out their towns, flooded their communities with pills and addiction, and flung open their nation’s borders to suffocate the native jobs that remained. Cozying up to the business elite — especially on the issue of immigration — would be a betrayal of the people who made him president in the first place.
