The film includes never-before-seen home movies and interviews with Reeve’s children about their father’s life, and how the Superman actor became a leader and activist after he became a quadriplegic following a horse riding accident. Warner Bros. released a trailer today in the lead-up to the film’s release, and it gives us snippets of interviews with Reeve’s children as well as A-list actors who Reeve worked with. That trailer—at three-and-a-half minutes—packs an emotional wallop, suggesting that the full feature will be an impactful watch. The Reeve children—Matthew Reeve, Alexandra Reeve Givens, and Will Reeve—also issued a statement where they shared why they agreed to take part in this documentary: “What mattered most to us as we thought about taking this leap of faith was that the film told ‘the Christopher Reeve story’ holistically and without favor, and examined him as broadly and deeply and fully as he lived his life,” they said. “He was an actor, an author, a director; an activist, an athlete, an adventurer; a son, a husband, a father. This documentary is the definitive exploration of all the parts of Christopher Reeve that combined to make a hero.” They added, “This documentary is a story of perseverance, commitment, love, family, bravery, tragedy, triumph, hope, and so much more. Above all it is a story of humanity, embodied by an ordinary man who found the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story will be in theaters only on September 21 and September 25, 2024. MIT reveals racial shift in first-year class profile following fall of affirmative action

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology recently disclosed the racial data pertaining to the 1,102 members of its inbound class of 2028. The statistics are noteworthy because they hint at the broader impact of the U.S. Supreme Court's June 29, 2023, decision in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. Harvard/UNC banning race-based college admissions. Some individuals on and off campus who apparently prefer student selection on the basis of dermal pigmentation are less than pleased with the new merit-based results. After all, favored racial groups have seen a dip in representation while others have seen a slight increase. MSNBC talking head Ayman Mohyeldin framed the shake-up on his Saturday show accordingly: "MIT released some data that confirmed our worst fears about the Supreme Court. The university's incoming class will be significantly less diverse than in previous years, and that's thanks to last year's ruling that gutted affirmative action." According to the university's admissions page, 1% of the class of 2028 is American Indian or Alaskan Native; 47% is Asian-American; 5% is black; 11% is Hispanic; less than 1% is Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander; and 37% is white. The numbers don't add up to 100% as some students identified with more than one group. 'The student must be treated based on his or her experiences as an individual — not on the basis of race.' As compared with the composite profile averaging the demographic composition of the previous four MIT first-year classes, Asians students are up six percentage points; American Indian students are down one point; black students are down eight points; Hispanic students are down four points; white students are down one point; and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander students are down roughly one point. Like Mohyeldin, MIT president Sally Kornbluth is apparently prickled by the racial breakdown of her own university's admissions choices. Kornbluth noted in an Aug. 21 letter to members of the university community, "I let you know that we expected the ruling to pose a serious challenge to sustaining, in future classes, the diverse mix of students who make MIT the place it is today. Now that the Class of 2028 has enrolled, the impact is clear, and it is concerning." On June 29, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-2 in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. Harvard/UNC that the race-based admissions processes at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill could not be reconciled with the guarantees of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. "Both programs lack sufficiently focused and measurable objectives warranting the use of race, unavoidably employ race in a negative manner, involve racial stereotyping, and lack meaningful end points," Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. noted, writing for the majority. "The student must be treated based on his or her experiences as an individual — not on the basis of race. Many universities have for too long done just the opposite. And in doing so, they have concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual's identity is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned but the color of their skin," continued Roberts. "Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice." Justice Sonia Sotomayor suggested in her dissenting opinion that by scrapping race-based admissions, the court was "further entrenching racial inequality in education." Edward Blum, the president of SFFA, said of the ruling in a statement, "This ruling is a long-overdue monumental step forward in our nation’s pursuit of a truly fair and unbiased educational system. It affirms the principle that every student should have an equal opportunity to succeed based on their hard work and talents." Stu Schmill, MIT's dean of admissions, told the campus paper, "As a baseline, in recent years around 25% of our enrolling undergraduate students have identified as Black, Hispanic, and/or Native American and Pacific Islander. For the incoming Class of 2028, that number is about 16%." Although the demographic change has Kornbluth concerned, Schmill noted that "this cohort is no more or less prepared to excel in our curriculum than other recent classes that were more broadly diverse." Despite admitting to lacking racial data on applicants this year, Schmill said he has "no doubt that we left out many well-qualified, well-matched applicants from historically under-represented backgrounds who in the past we would have admitted — and who would have excelled." Schmill insinuated that MIT is thinking outside the box on how it can maximize "diversity" where its incoming first-year classes are concerned. For instance, the admissions office will consider "prospective fields of study and areas of research, extracurricular activities and accomplishments, as well as economic, geographic, and educational background." "To be clear, there is no quick and easy 'hack' to solve for racial inequality," continued Schmill. "But MIT does not shrink from hard problems in science or in society, and we will do what we can, within the bounds of the law, to continue to deliver an exceptionally rigorous and inclusive educational experience." Eddie Glaude Jr., a professor of African-American studies at Princeton University, told MSNBC that the elimination of race-based admissions is part of a "two-front assault," noting that DEI is also under attack. "So even if you get admitted to these institutions, they're attacking DEI offices so that the experience is not, shall we say, as welcoming, as supportive as it might be," said Glaude. "So I think institutions need to live their values and not be afraid of being sued — bring the full weight of their reputation to bear in the fight for diverse higher educational landscape." The Democratic Party used lawfare and "private investigators" to try to keep Robert F. Kennedy Jr. off the ballot, RFK Jr. claimed during an appearance on "The Glenn Beck Program" on Monday. RFK Jr. indicated to host Glenn Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, that the Democratic Party engaged in the underhanded tactics even though polls showed he drew more votes away from former President Donald Trump than from Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. "Our polling, from the the beginning, was saying that we were hurting Donald Trump much more than we hurt the Democrats. ... And so it was odd that President Trump and the Republican Party never really attacked me, and he was not trying to keep me off of ballots. They weren't deploying, you know, private investigators to dig up every piece of dirt about me and publicize it," he explained. "The Democrats have this entire organization that was designed to destroy, character-assassinate me, and keep me off the ballots," he continued. 'Their big worry is about disinformation and misinformation,' RFK Jr. said. 'Well, you know, that's not the government's job.' RFK Jr. told Beck that the efforts to remove him from the ballot were just part of Democratic Party's attempt to exercise "ironclad control" over the electoral process. "They had to get me off the ballot using the judicial system and Donald Trump off the ballot using the judicial system," RFK Jr. said of Democrats. "It's all about ironclad control of the outcomes and no longer having any trust in the people of our country." Between these attempts to undermine the democratic process and the "deep state" and "neocon" agenda Harris espoused in her convention speech, RFK Jr. said that he found that he now has more in common with Trump and the Republicans than with the Democratic Party, with which his family has been associated for more than 60 years, and that is why he endorsed Trump after dropping out of the race. "There have been a series of political realignments throughout American history, about four or five big realignments, and one of those is happening right now," he said. "It's really interesting to be living through it and to have kind of a front-row seat in it." The "realignment" going on right now is so dramatic, RFK Jr. indicated, that even his late father, Robert Kennedy Sr., and his late uncle, former President John Kennedy, likely would not be welcome in the Democratic Party these days. "It's become the party of war," he said. "Their big worry is about disinformation and misinformation," RFK Jr. added. "Well, you know, that's not the government's job." ABC News reporter Jon Karl showed while interviewing Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) that he does not have a clue what Vice President Kamala Harris has campaigned on and what her current stances are on certain issues, in part because she has refused to do any interviews since becoming the Democrats' nominee for president.It started when Cotton brought up that Harris had promised in 2020 to take away private health insurance offered through employers."What do you mean taking away health insurance? What are you talking about?" Karl asked."She said when she ran for president that she wants to eliminate private health insurance on the job," Cotton replied."Well, yeah, I mean, that is not her position now ..." Karl said dismissively.'Jon, she has not said that.'"How do you know that is not her position?" Cotton shot back, with Karl continuing to insist Harris no longer believes in that policy."She has not said that. Maybe anonymous aides on a Friday night have said that," Cotton said.Karl then pivoted to Harris' rhetoric at last week's Democratic National Convention, saying it was not a "radical convention." "She is not taking the positions of the far-left of her party. She's clearly making an effort to move to the middle," Karl said. — (@) Even with Cotton pointing to the progressive ideas she campaigned in 2020 and what the Biden-Harris administration has done while it has been in power, Karl continued to defend Harris."But that's a position she's clearly changed on and she said she has changed on. ...Yes, she has," Karl said."No, no, she has not. Jon, she has not said that," Cotton replied.Many of the policy flip-flops Harris has made after she became the nominee for the upcoming election have been through campaign statements and not herself as she still has not set time to do an in-depth interview about her policy positions.
