Family Heard a Snap and Lost Grandparents Forever in Hurricane Helene; Astonishing Find Made as Debris Is Removed

A grieving family now believes they witnessed God's plan in a tragic moment during Hurricane Helene. When the storm passed over the home of Jerry and Marcia Savage, 78 and 74 respectively, they were huddled in their bedroom while merciless winds whipped around the Beech Island, South Carolina, property. Sorta Bikernet Weekly News for October 3rd, 2024

Okay, I’m trying to get a handle on our new format, so bear with me. The News was provided by the Bikernet Team including the Redhead, Bob T. Sam Burns, Laura, Barry Green, El Waggs, J.J. Solari, Amy White, Jenn and the rest of the crew. Dale’s Wheels Through Time   · UPDATE : As you probably know, on Friday of last week, Maggie Valley and the surrounding regions were hit with devastating floods as Hurricane Helene passed through the area. Thankfully, the museum, our staff, and the collections are safe. The museum is currently closed for daily operations as this event has rippled the infrastructure here; roads, power, internet, and phones were all dramatically affected. When we have established a reopening date, we will send out an email and post it on all our social media platforms. Until then, we are asking for your help. The fall season is one of the busiest times of the year for tourism-related businesses in Western North Carolina, and without the steady stream of visitors, many businesses will feel the impact. As our way of helping our community, we will donate a portion of all online proceeds during the month of October to local flood relief efforts. Thanks, Rogue Senior Editor Bikernet.com To Vote or Not to Vote First off, there is never a good time not to vote—no excuses. The most un-American thing you can do is to abstain from the privilege of voting. This is when the work begins as a citizen of this great country. You can affect the future direction of the policies serving or hindering us. As a Motorcycle Rights Foundation (MRF) or an Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket (IMA) member you already understand the importance of taking a stand. As a member you will learn about the horrendous amount of work involved in passing or repealing legislation. You will come face to face with the unimaginable number of people who don’t have a clue to the consequences officials and policies can have on our lives. Policies rule our life in America. It is of utmost importance to be aware of what controlling policies are on deck. Did you know, for 30 years the Chevron Act allowed politicians to start agencies who regulated our lives without your vote? The Supreme Court just this year overturned the Chevron Doctrine? That means we can re-evaluate 30 years of regulations you didn’t approve. At least now we can!  Most proposed laws before our legislators do not affect them personally. Say you legislator doesn’t ride or own a motorcycle but they suddenly decided to write a helmet law or loud pipes legislation. On the other hand, they could own stock in a company making helmets or are promised votes by a group who proports Zero tolerance. They are under constant pressure. This is where your motorcycle rights group steps in to keep you and your elected officials informed. State motorcycle rights group stay on top of new legislation and share positive and negative efforts with national groups like the IMA or the MRF.  But both levels of freedom fighters need everyone’s input and involvement to properly contest or kill a proposal. If a bad law is passed, it’s way more difficult to change or repeal it. We as citizens fund the government and the government was established to serve our needs. As a member of a State Motorcycle Rights Organization or an active club member you have a better understanding of this principle than most bikers and shop owners. It is on us to share this knowledge and the impact current legislation is going to have on our motorcycles, businesses and more importantly our culture. I have personally visited shop owners who do not have a clue of the regulatory threats to their businesses. Some business owners are afraid to contest legislation. I am not just talking about making their daily routine more difficult through additional bureaucratic bullshit, but threats of crippling fines, eventually closing their doors and destroying careers. Independent shops ownership is rapidly shrinking. Only a few years ago there were over 2,500 wrench-turning shops nationwide. Now there are only a few hundred.  Our dwindling motorcycle shop industry is under attack from overbearing government regulation and illegally formed agencies. Please, please get all your biker friends to check out where their representatives and senators stand on motorcycle related legislation and vote accordingly. Go to imamembers.org, join the Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket today and we promise to have your back to keep our bikes on the road and our culture alive and well. The more support we build from the bikers on the streets, independent shop owners, custom bike builders, motorcycle parts/accessory manufacturers and aftermarket distributors the stronger our voice will be to stave off harmful legislation. Choppers Magazine Issue 16 Automated Taxi Mayhem To Err Is Human – To Really Muck Up Requires A Computer Two self-driving taxi companies embarrassingly made news this week. First, while Vice-President Kamala Harris was in San Francisco, her travel was interrupted when a Waymo robotaxi got stuck in the path of the Vice-Presidential motorcade while trying to make a turn. The driverless vehicle had to be manually moved by police to unblock the route. That story comes on the heels of reports from San Francisco that parking lots with off-duty Waymo vehicles become confused and start honking at one another. Nearby residents have complained about the driverless cars honking randomly at all hours of the day and night. In more serious news, General Motors robotaxi company, Cruise, will undergo more stringent oversight and pay a fine to settle claims by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it failed to disclose information about a crash involving one of its cars that struck and dragged a pedestrian last fall. In October 2023, a Cruise robotaxi dragged a pedestrian nearly 20 feet before coming to a stop. The incident injured the pedestrian and resulted in a suspension of Cruise’s license to operate in California. The case prompted Cruise to recall its automated driving system. According to NHTSA, two reports Cruise provided about the event failed to disclose post-crash details and were incomplete. Remember that all three of these stories involved vehicles with no driver behind the wheel! The Motorcycle Riders Foundation remains committed to spreading the word about the protection that all roadway users deserve from being test subjects for this new technology. If the Vice-President of the United States can have her path blocked by a driverless car, what chance does the average biker have out there? –MRF Motorcycle Riders Foundation Troy Herfoss Crowned 2024 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers Champion S&S Cycle / Indian Motorcycle rider Troy Herfoss clinched the 2024 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers Championship with a win in the final race of the season. A damp track set the stage for two races during an intense weekend, placing teammates Troy Herfoss, Tyler O’Hara, and Harley rider Kyle Wyman on the second row for Saturday’s race. Anticipation ran high among fans and racers, eager to see who would push through the pack to claim the top spot. Despite a challenging start, Herfoss found himself in 5th place after the first lap. He steadily worked his way up, overtaking Tyler O’Hara, James Rispoli, and Kyle Wyman to climb into second place. Once there, Herfoss and Landers separated themselves from the field, leaving the others behind. Herfoss finished Saturday’s race in second, transforming a 2-point deficit to Wyman into a 2-point lead heading into the final race of the season on Sunday. On Sunday, Wyman had a strong start, but Herfoss quickly caught and passed him. Maintaining the lead for the remainder of the race, Herfoss secured the championship, finishing the season 11 points ahead of Wyman. This victory marked Herfoss’ seventh win of the year, and his 14th podium finish out of 18 races, capping an extraordinary rookie season on the S&S Cycle / Indian Motorcycles Bagger. Reflecting on the season, Herfoss shared: “It’s been an incredible journey. Twelve months ago, I was on top of the world in Australia, but uncertain about the future of my racing career. This opportunity to race for a new motorcycle brand in the King of the Baggers series arose, and I wanted to step out of my comfort zone—and that’s exactly what happened. From the banks of Daytona to the world championship crowds at COTA, and even through the gravel trap at Brainerd, it’s been a wild ride. Kyle Wyman has been an amazing competitor—truly a professional in every sense. On his tough days, he kept himself in the fight, and on the good days, he made me work for it. It was thrilling and stressful, and a career highlight for me. Last year’s Superbike Championship in Australia was a major milestone after recovering from a significant injury, but I wasn’t sure if I could achieve this at the start of the year. That’s what makes this moment so special.” –S&S sscycle.com TOOL OF THE WEEK--CLAMPTITE With the introduction of the compact CLAMPTITE tool, this unique extremely useful tool belongs in every tool box. Another Major Union Will NOT Endorse Presidential Candidate

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) announced Thursday it will decline to make a presidential endorsement in the 2024 election. The IAFF’s decision follows Teamsters declining to endorse a presidential candidate. According to POLITICO, the IAFF represents more than 300,000 career firefighters and emergency responders. “Today, the IAFF Executive Board, by a margin of 1.2%, voted to not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Over the past year, the IAFF took unprecedented steps to hear our members’ views on the candidates and the policy issues that matter most to them,” the labor union said in a press release. A statement from @IAFFPresident following today's IAFF Executive Board meeting pic.twitter.com/D6K6eQFrF7 — International Association of Fire Fighters (@IAFFofficial) October 3, 2024 From POLITICO: Harris has won the endorsements of an overwhelming number of unions. But it’s the second notable union-related setback in recent weeks for her campaign, which is strongly banking on organized labor to boost its outreach to working-class voters on her behalf — particularly in key swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. Both vice presidential candidates — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) — spoke at IAFF’s August convention in Boston as the union considered its options. IAFF’s late non-endorsement — with votes already being cast in some states — carries particular weight given that the union was the first to endorse President Joe Biden at the outset of his campaign to defeat Donald Trump in 2019. That was partly due to Biden’s decades-long ties with IAFF and its then-leader, Harold Schaitberger, who stepped aside in 2021. Under Schaitberger the IAFF had also preliminarily planned to endorse Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign but scuttled the idea after taking stock of its membership, The New York Times reported in 2015. The Firefighters Union, first out of gate to endorse @JoeBiden four (actually five) years ago, makes it official that it won’t endorse in 2024 race pic.twitter.com/kZ9CLcUwSb — Mike Memoli (@mikememoli) October 3, 2024 This is … not a good timeline if you are Kamala Harris. Say, what Democrat failed to receive the IAFF endorsement in 2016, and whatever happened to her? pic.twitter.com/kQGP533eX8 — Tim Murtaugh (@TimMurtaugh) October 3, 2024 The Hill reports: The union announced in April 2019, with the Democratic primary still in its early stages, that it was supporting Biden’s White House bid. The president spoke at the union’s 2023 legislative conference, where he told the firefighters in attendance, “I have your back.” The IAFF’s decision not to endorse comes after the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, one of the nation’s largest unions, announced it would not endorse a candidate in the White House race this year. While Teamsters leadership said they weren’t backing a candidate between Trump and Harris, numerous local Teamsters chapters quickly came out in support for the vice president. Harris has earned the support of several other major organized labor groups since she replaced Biden atop the Democratic ticket, including the United Auto Workers. Harris has signaled she will carry on with many of the same labor policies as Biden, who has often touted himself as the most pro-union president in history.

Scottish Citizens Disrupt Census To Protest Gender Ideology, Mark Religion As ‘Believer In Biology’

Scottish citizens fed up with their government’s adherence to radical gender ideology — often under threat from trans activists — protested en masse, disrupting the 2022 census by marking down their religious preference as “believer in biology.” A report detailing the write-in answers was published Thursday, and revealed that thousands had responded to a call to get involved and disrupt the 2022 census from pro-woman groups like For Women Scotland. “Fascinating to see from Scottish census data published today that nearly 3000 people identified their religion as ‘Believer in Biology’ in a coordinated protest led by @ForWomenScot,” Professor Sarah Pedersen wrote via X, sharing links to some of the relevant census data. You can find the write-in responses to the religion question hereScotland's Census 2022: write-in responses for Ethnicity, National Identity, Language and Religion topic | Scotland's Census (https://t.co/KfWwnABP2v) 2/ — Prof. Sarah Pedersen (@SarahPedersen2) October 3, 2024 The 2,883 Scots who participated in the protest responded to a question asking, “what religion, religious denomination or body do you belong to?” and wrote in, “believer in biology.” “This is the article in which I discuss Scotland’s census and Believers in Biology — all 3000 of them,” Pedersen wrote. Rowling confirmed that she had been a part of the action: “I was one of those people.” I was one of those people. https://t.co/gFe5gGVMwX — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) October 3, 2024 “This is great! Well done all who took part!#BelieverinBiology https://t.co/96XQNYysC6 — For Women Scotland (@ForWomenScot) October 3, 2024 The protest was aimed at Scotland’s Gender Recognition Act, which would make it easier for citizens to legally change gender identity, largely on the basis of self-identification, provided they had “lived with the acquired gender” for at least three months and promised that the change was to be permanent. The new law eliminated two key previous requirement for a legal change of gender, reducing the legal age to apply to 16 and removing a requirement of an official diagnosis of “gender dysphoria” from a doctor. The GRA passed Scottish Parliament in December of 2022, but the U.K. blocked the law from Royal Assent by invoking Section 35 of the Scotland Act — which allows the United Kingdom to intervene in Scotland’s legislative process — for the first time in history.

Investigators Identify Cause Of Deadly Maui Wildfire That Killed More Than 100

The deadly wildfire that killed 102 people and caused $5.5 billion in damages last year in Hawaii was caused by a downed power line, according to a report released Wednesday from local and federal investigators.  Officials with the Maui Fire Department and the ATF both said that the August 8 fire that blazed through the island was determined to be one fire that arose from a “single origin and cause.” The investigators said the fire had a morning and afternoon phase and ruled it accidental.  “The cause of the fire was the re-energization of broken utility lines which caused the ejection of molten metallic material (sparks) to fall to the base of pole 25, igniting the unmaintained vegetation below,” the report from the Maui Fire Department said, noting this happened at 6:34 a.m.  A separate, but similar report from the ATF was attached as an appendix to the Maui Fire Department report. Both reports identified the same cause.  Investigators added that the firefighters believed the blaze had been extinguished after they responded the morning of August 8.  “Following the morning phase of the fire, all available indications showed the fire fully contained and extinguished—no flames, no smoke, and no perceptibly combusting material had been observed for hours,” the report said. “Despite the extraordinary diligence of personnel and the significant number of resources at the scene, undetected smoldering material from the morning phase of the fire initiated the afternoon phase of the fire in a gully adjacent to the existing fire area at [2:52 p.m.].” The report said the surrounding vegetation made up of a variety of local grasses was highly flammable. The fire spread quickly due to “extreme winds” and most severely impacted Lahaina in West Maui.  Investigators said there was no evidence that the fire was a result of intentional human activity or caused by lightning.  Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! When commenting on the report, Assistant Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Giesea said there was no blame for the firefighters who responded to the morning blaze. “We want to make abundantly clear to the community that our firefighters went above and beyond their due diligence to be as confident as they could be that the fire was completely extinguished before they left the scene,” he said. State and local officials came under intense scrutiny over their handling of the fire. Some survivors said that police blocked roads leading away from the blaze, causing a traffic jam as people attempted to escape.  Earlier this year, Hawaii Governor Josh Green announced a $4 billion settlement to resolve a host of lawsuits brought by victims of the fire against a number of parties, including the state, county, and Hawaiian Electric company.
