NY AG Letitia James & 11 Other AGs: DEI Is a Civil Right?

New York Attorney General Letitia James and 11 attorneys general will defend DEI. To them, it is a civil right and anything else is discrimination. This comes as airlines hire people who have psychiatric disabilities, are seriously intellectually challenged, are fully paralyzed, and so on. DEI is now a civil right? This is their statement […] The post NY AG Letitia James & 11 Other AGs: DEI Is a Civil Right? appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

What Happens When You Put A Bull In A China Shop… Literally!

Zac Alsop is a hilarious TikTok influencer. He recently decided it would be interesting to see if there was any merit to the phrase “Like a bull in a china shop.” To set the stage, Zac made a china shop. He set up shelving and displays inside an enclosed indoor bullpen area. Zac chose this project because he thought the phrase was unfair to the bulls. After assembling the shelving, he filled them with 1,000 pieces of movie glass china. Although the movie China may break easily, it is significantly less expensive, so there is that. The setup looked pretty impressive. Image from TikTok. It was time to release the bull in the China shop. All the humans scattered and they let the animal loose. @zacalsop I put a bull in china shop ♬ original sound – Zac Alsop Zac and his team got the results they expected. When the bull was finished in the China shop, there was not one piece of unbroken China remaining. Image from TikTok. Mythbusters conducted a similar experiment. Surprisingly, they had less devastating results. Their bull was almost “delicate” as it moved around in the movie prop China shop. Zac makes videos he likes to call “Stories for the Grandkids.” One of Zac’s funniest viral videos was a partnership with the London-based VooDoo Brass Band. Zac and the band followed joggers playing songs like the theme from Rocky and Chariots of Fire. Some joggers laughed and played along, slipping into the movie characters as they ran. Others tried to ignore the band and continued running. If you like fun, follow Zac as he creates more stories for his grandchildren. They are full of laughs and will keep you entertained for hours. And they’re clean and innocent enough for you to share with your grandchildren. Please share. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Andrea Mitchell Acts as Publicist for First Trans Member of Congress

In the aftermath of President Donald Trump's new policy against transgenders serving in the military, MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell gave an unchallenged forum to Delaware U.S. Representative Sarah McBride to trash Republicans for acting on the issue. Before bringing aboard McBride as a guest, Mitchell set up the segment: President Trump is focusing on the military with his latest round of executive orders signed on Monday, including ending DEI programs and taking the first steps to stop transgender Americans from serving openly. The President's directive is not immediate. It does order the Pentagon to update its policy in 60 days and come up with a new plan in 30 days. One DOD estimate puts the number of transgender service members at up to 8,000 people. After the Delaware Representative complained about the move to bar transgenders, Mitchell cued up her liberal guest to question the motives of Republicans: "Why do you think the DEI policies and also the issue of transgender people have been so targeted in these first opening days? And certainly this is something the President campaigned on." McBride repeated a frequent talking point on the left that Republicans have an ulterior motive in highlighting transgender issues: The attacks on DEI -- the attacks on transgender people are part of a political strategy by this administration -- a strategy of misdirection and distraction. This is a strategy as old as time. Right-wing leaders will often target vulnerable and misunderstood communities in order to distract from what they're doing that is deeply unpopular with the American people. For instance, just last night, this administration put a massive freeze on all federal spending that is going to assist states, localities, nonprofits. She added: This is federal funding that includes health care for low-income folks and people with disabilities. This is funding for Head Start, to provide child care for young people. They are trying to distract from what they are doing with their right hand because I guarantee you every time they bring up DEI, every single time they bring up trans people,  they are trying to pick the pocket of American workers, fleecing unions, undermine unions, and destroy the programs and care that millions of Americans rely on every single day... Without giving any pushback, Mitchell then followed up by asking about Trump's push to only recognize two genders on legal documents. In her final question, the MSNBC host brought up the effort by Democrats to help illegal aliens who were brought to the country as children: "I know we don't have much more time, but I know you've been very active on the movement to try to do something for Dreamers in Delaware, and they are obviously at risk with this crackdown on immigration." The segment wrapped up after McBride excoriated Republicans again: Absolutely. The draconian efforts that we've seen by this administration to separate families -- to deport our neighbors -- it includes Dreamers. It includes people who have been living in this country for years growing up, paying taxes, doing hard work every single day across our country, and we have to be very, very clear that Dreamers unfortunately are not excluded from this administration's draconian policies that will separate families and undermine our economy. Transcript follows: MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports January 28, 2024 12:41 p.m. Eastern ANDREA MITCHELL: President Trump is focusing on the military with his latest round of executive orders signed on Monday, including ending DEI programs and taking the first steps to stop transgender Americans from serving openly. The President's directive is not immediate. It does order the Pentagon to update its policy in 60 days and come up with a new plan in 30 days. One DOD estimate puts the number of transgender service members at up to 8,000 people. Speaking at the Pentagon on the first day of his new job yesterday, the Defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, laid down the law. ... Joining us now is Democratic Congresswoman Sarah McBride of Delaware, the first openly transgender member of Congress. Congresswoman, thank you very much for being with us. So trans military members have already had to testify on Capitol Hill about the ban the last time the President was in office in 2019. Part of his new executive order reads, quote, "A man's assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honor this falsehood, is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member." So that seems pretty obvious where they're going on this. What do you think the impact is? REPRESENTATIVE SARAH McBRIDE (D-DE): The commander-in-chief's focus should be 100 percent on protecting our national security and making sure that our military is as strong as possible. And this legislative action puts at risk the careers of thousands of qualified transgender servicemembers -- individuals who, in many cases, have been serving this country for years, taking the same oath as their fellow servicemembers and meeting the exact same rigorous physical and medical standards that all servicemembers need to fulfill. This is an attempt to rid the military of thousands of qualified individuals, and it's part of a larger effort by this administration to purge the federal government of patriots who seek to serve their country. And I will say, it is telling that this President's definition of patriots is pardoning over 1,000 insurrectionists who violently assault police officers and apparently does not include patriotic transgender servicemembers who have been ably serving this country for years.  MITCHELL: Why do you think the DEI policies and also the issue of transgender people have been so targeted in these first opening days? And certainly this is something the President campaigned on. McBRIDE: The attacks on DEI -- the attacks on transgender people are part of a political strategy by this administration -- a strategy of misdirection and distraction. This is federal funding that includes health care for low-income folks and people with disabilities. This is funding for Head Start, to provide child care for young people. They are trying to distract from what they are doing with their right hand because I guarantee you every time they bring up DEI, every single time they bring up trans people,  they are trying to pick the pocket of American workers, fleecing unions, undermine unions, and destroy the programs and care that millions of Americans rely on every single day, and I'm hearing from constituents across the state of Delaware who are fearful of this federal funding freeze and fearful that there will be massive layoffs -- fearful that there will be programs that they rely on that will be eliminated. They're fearful about what the future has in store, and this is part of an effort to distract from that reality. MITCHELL: I mean, one of the issues with transgender people is that they have issued an order that all government documents have only two genders. So passports, for instance, we are told, can no longer have any kind of other signifying of gender other than male of female. McBRIDE: And it appears that they are trying to eliminate the ability of transgender men and women to have identity documents that reflect their gender identity. And that could present a very real risk -- not just for the dignity but for the safety of transgender people. It would essentially amount to forced outing of transgender people who are trying to gain government services or travel in the case of a passport. These actions have real consequences. They impose real harm on real Americans. But they are also part of an effort to distract from these very clear attacks on the economic and financial security of the American people that are happening at the very same time, and we have to be crystal clear about how all of these attacks -- how all of these efforts connect and are part of this administration's larger strategy to gut programs and care and services for the American people. MITCHELL: I know we don't have much more time, but I know you've been very active on the movement to try to do something for Dreamers in Delaware, and they are obviously at risk with this crackdown on immigration. McBRIDE: Absolutely. MITCHELL: Congresswoman Sarah McBride, it's -- it's good to talk to you. Thank you very much. I'm glad we could do this.

Short-Term Memory Loss? Nicolle Wallace Can't Remember Trump Inauguration Date!

Poor Nicolle Wallace, perhaps the liberal media's saddest sourpuss. It was only 10 days ago, but on her MSNBC show on Thursday afternoon, Nicolle pitiably needed to ask an NBC reporter to remind her of when Donald Trump was inaugurated. Sad! Let's give Nicolle the benefit of the doubt. Instead of suffering from early onset, Wallace feigned ignorance of the date of Trump's inauguration for the purpose of trying to pin the tragic DC plane crash on him. After an aviation expert said that there was only one air traffic controller involved, whereas normally there would have been two—one monitoring the landing American Airlines flight, and the other monitoring the Army helicopter—a seemingly dazed and confused Wallace asked NBC correspondent Vaughn Hillyard: NICOLLE WALLACE: Just remind me, Trump's inauguration was on which date? VAUGHN HILLYARD: It was January 20th.  Nice try, Nicolle. But your aviation expert told you that the air traffic controller shortage dates back to the COVID-19 pandemic.  So Biden had four years to fix it but didn't. Yet you want to blame Trump for not cleaning up Biden's mess in 10 days! Here's the transcript. MSNBC Deadline White House 1/30/25 4:12 pm ET NICOLLE WALLACE: What are the possible scenarios for what could have gone wrong? What is the investigation? What are the investigators asking in terms of questions?  ANTHONY ROMAN: Well, the question is whether a mechanical failure between any of the two aircraft that led to their position changing somewhat and leading to the collision.  More likely, a shortage of air traffic controllers since the pandemic. And as a result, they are driven very, very hard during these episodes. Normally, they [sic] would be two controllers in an incident like this, one for the military helicopter and one for the civilian aircraft. In this case, there was only one controller managing both.  . . .  WALLACE: And just remind me, Trump's inaugurated on which date?  VAUGHN HILLYARD: It was January 20th.  WALLACE: So our timeline of Trump's aviation actions is, the President of the United States goes like this. On January 20th, the FAA director leaves the office under pressure. On January 21st, the air traffic controller hiring is frozen, so no more can be hired. And on January 22nd, the Aviation Safety Advisory Committee is disbanded.  Does the White House have any comment about any of those actions?  HILLYARD: No, we're still waiting for this point in time.

PBS Switches Sides on Snowden to Roast 'Dangerous' Tulsi Gabbard

PBS Switches Sides on Snowden to Roast 'Dangerous' Tulsi Gabbard

The tragic plane crash in the Potomac River understandably sidelined coverage of Thursday’s congressional confirmation hearings on the major networks, but that evening’s PBS News Hour ran full stories on the hearings for Kash Patel to head the FBI, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (a former Democrat congresswoman from Hawaii) for Director of National Intelligence, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Health and Human Services. All suffered bruising and sometimes bipartisan criticism, and the coverage was deeply unfavorable to all three nominees. Reporter Laura Barron-Lopez mocked Patel’s supposed conspiracy theory about a “deep state” in Washington out to get Donald Trump. Imagine that! But Gabbard perhaps got the worst of it, with tough questioning about past comments on Syrian dictator Assad and especially her support of classified document leaker Edward Snowden, now in exile in Putin’s Russia, as a government “whistleblower.” PBS reporter Nick Schifrin eagerly emphasized senators calling Snowden a "traitor" during Gabbard's confirmation hearing, painting Snowden as a thorn in a Trump nominee’s side. Nick Schifrin: Edward Snowden was a National Security Agency contractor who leaked more than a million classified documents. In 2020, Tulsi Gabbard wanted him pardoned. Archive clip, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): I have introduced legislation to stand up for and to protect brave whistle-blowers. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA): Do you still think Edward Snowden is brave? Schifrin: Today, Gabbard's past comments drew bipartisan concern, beginning with Vice Chairman Virginia Democrat Mark Warner. Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford was shown calling Snowden a traitor for releasing American secrets and fleeing to China and finally Russia, as did Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennett. Schifrin concluded of Gabbard, “her supporters proudly call her unconventional, while, to her critics, she's dangerous.” After Schifrin’s segment, co-anchor Amna Nawaz asked Jamil Jaffer, executive director of National Security Institute at George Mason University, if “the comments about Snowden…sound alarm bells within the intelligence community?" Which makes PBS News Hour's previous swaddling of Snowden as a liberal whistleblower against the American surveillance state all the more odd. Was PBS "dangerous" when they were more supportive of this man? In February 2015, then-co-anchor Judy Woodruff teased “an intimate look at Edward Snowden with the journalists behind the Oscar-nominated documentary Citizenfour, which takes viewers inside the first days of one of the biggest intelligence leaks in U.S. history.” News Hour contributor Jeffrey Brown certainly didn’t make Snowden sound like a confirmed traitor: Jeffrey Brown: “The documentary Citizenfour brings us into a Hong Kong hotel room as former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden reveals secrets that would make for blockbuster headlines beginning in June 2013: the large-scale collection of phone and Internet data by the U.S. government….For some, Snowden was a free speech hero. In the film, he explains his decision to eventually make his identity known.….But others, including President Obama, called on Snowden to come back to the U.S. and face charges for espionage. Neither did then-News Hour co-anchor Gwen Ifill. In June 2013, Ifill teased a segment: "So, is Edward Snowden himself a hero or a turncoat? We will debate that later in the broadcast." Later she used the same formulation: "So, [journalist] James Bamford, is Edward Snowden a leaker or a whistleblower?" In August 2014, Snowden was embraced no less eagerly by Ifill, again accompanied by sympathetic journalist Bamford. Ifill: Edward Snowden has more secrets to tell and shares them with "Wired" magazine. We talk to the journalist who spent three days with the NSA leaker in Moscow….James Bamford, you say in your piece that you feel like you have a kinship with Edward Snowden. Why did he talk to you? These hypocritical Snowden-related stories were brought to you in part by Cunard. A transcript is available, click “Expand.” PBS News Hour 1/30/25 Nick Schifrin: Today, in the Senate Intelligence Committee, the name used more than any other was not the woman nominated to lead the intelligence community, but the man responsible for its largest breach. Edward Snowden was a National Security Agency contractor who leaked more than a million classified documents. In 2020, Tulsi Gabbard wanted him pardoned. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI): I have introduced legislation to stand up for and to protect brave whistle-blowers. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA): Do you still think Edward Snowden is brave? Nick Schifrin: Today, Gabbard's past comments drew bipartisan concern, beginning with Vice Chairman Virginia Democrat Mark Warner. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: Edward Snowden broke the law. I do not agree with or support with all of the information and intelligence that he released, nor the way in which he did it. Nick Schifrin: Oklahoma Republican James Lankford:   Sen. James Lankford (R-OK): Was he a traitor at the time when he took America's secrets, released them in public, and then ran to China and became a Russian citizen? Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: Senator, I'm focused on the future and how we can prevent something like this from happening again. Nick Schifrin: Colorado Democrat Michael Bennet: Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO): Is Edward Snowden a traitor to the United States of America? That is not a hard question to answer when the stakes are this high. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: Senator, as someone who has served in uniform… Sen. Michael Bennet: Is your answer yes or no, is Edward Snowden a traitor to the United States of America? I go on to my questions. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: As someone who has worn our uniform in combat. I understand how critical our national security is. Sen. Michael Bennet: Apparently, you don't. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: This is about regime change in Russia. Nick Schifrin: Senators also questioned Gabbard's judgment on Russia and the war in Ukraine. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: The United States and some of these European NATO countries are fueling this war. Nick Schifrin: Which she's blamed in part on the U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM): who's responsible for the war in Ukraine? Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: Putin started the war in Ukraine. Nick Schifrin: That conversion doubted by Kansas Republican Jerry Moran. Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS): I want to make certain that in no way does Russia get a pass in either your mind or your heart or in any policy recommendation you would make or not make. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: Senator, I'm offended by the question, because my sole focus, commitment and responsibility is about our own nation, our own security and the interests of the American people. Nick Schifrin: Senators also expressed skepticism in her conversion to supporter of warrantless surveillance, which she used to oppose. Sen. Mark Warner: I don't find your change of heart credible. Nick Schifrin: And on Syria.   Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: The fact is that the United States has been waging this war, this regime change war now. Nick Schifrin: Gabbard visited in 2017 and dismissed U.S. and U.N. conclusions that Assad launched a chemical weapons attack in April 2017. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: And that evidence was never presented, and it's very clear now as time has gone on that there was a cover-up. Nick Schifrin: Today, for the first time, Gabbard said she pushed Assad on chemical weapons. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: I asked him tough questions about his own regime's actions, the use of chemical weapons and the brutal tactics that were being used against his own people. Nick Schifrin: But Democrats fear Gabbard's prior positions could prevent allies from sharing intelligence. Sen. Mark Warner: I just don't believe on your judgment and credibility issues that this is the appropriate role that you should take going forward. Nick Schifrin: Gabbard was elected to Hawaii's legislature in 2002 at the age of 21 as a Democrat. She served in Congress for eight years, deployed twice to the Middle East, and is a serving lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve. But she became a Republican and endorsed Donald Trump over their shared questioning of the intelligence community. Fmr. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: The American people elected Donald Trump as their president not once, but twice. And yet the FBI and intelligence agencies were politicized by his opponents to undermine his presidency and falsely portray him as a puppet of Putin. Nick Schifrin: With that charge, her supporters proudly call her unconventional, while, to her critics, she's dangerous.
