Young Boy Survives 5 Days in ‘lion-infested’ Game Park in Zimbabwe

A 7-year-old boy has survived nearly a week lost on the savannah in Zimbabwe. Returning home to his rural village on New Year’s Eve, he avoided lions and ornery herbivores while using a clever trick to stave off dehydration. For food, he ate berries. Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) received notice of a […] The post Young Boy Survives 5 Days in ‘lion-infested’ Game Park in Zimbabwe appeared first on Good News Network.

See the Magic Behind the Gore in The Substance Featurette

News The Substance See the Magic Behind the Gore in The Substance Featurette By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on January 7, 2025 Comment 0 Share New Share The Substance, the latest film from writer-director Coralie Fargeat starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley is getting awards attention, with Moore already winning the 2025 Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Whether the film The Substance is a comedy is up for debate. The movie is full of body horror and centers on a star of a certain age (Moore) who goes to extreme lengths for youth—taking a black market drug (a self-replicating substance, if you will) that temporarily creates a younger version of herself (Qualley)—with gruesome results. With that premise, The Substance is full of gore and scenes involving complex prosthetics. If you want to watch it, it’s now available for streaming on Mubi, and the company released a 28-minute behind-the-scenes featurette that centers on an interview with Fargeat where she describes her inspiration for the film, as well as the technical aspects of creating some of the movie’s more memorable scenes, such as when the back of a young woman pulsates and splits wide open, and an audience full of extras gets gallons of fake blood firehosed all over them (a hose that we find out Fargeat herself was wielding). It’s an interesting watch whether you’ve seen The Substance or not, both for Fargeat’s commentary and for seeing the magic behind the practical special effects. Check out the behind-the-scenes featurette below. [end-mark] The post See the Magic Behind the Gore in The Substance Featurette appeared first on Reactor.

Draining the Swamp Should Start With New Civil Rights Commission Staff Director

Draining the Swamp Should Start With New Civil Rights Commission Staff Director

Given vexing experiences in his first administration, once and future President Donald Trump is well aware of the resistance he will face from the Swamp, the vast horde of left-wing bureaucrats that inhabit the executive branch. They see it as their political duty to impede, resist, and sabotage every policy priority of a Republican president, especially Trump, and to implement left-wing policies. With that in mind, the president-to-be has clearly been picking nominees to head executive branch agencies who will shake up that Swamp. But Trump and his advisers need to understand that there are other, lower-level, non-Cabinet positions over which he has authority to make appointments and where it is also important that he find the same type of nominees. He needs individuals willing to challenge the bureaucracy and turn around a ship of state that has been heading in the wrong direction for a long time. Those individuals who shouldn’t care what the editorial pages of The New York Times or The Washington Post say about them and, in fact, should realize that if those left-wing propaganda organs approve of their actions, then they are probably doing the wrong thing. A prime example of that is the staff director of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, who is appointed by the president with the concurrence of the commissioners under 42 U.S.C. §1975b. The commission is an independent agency established in 1957 when we were in the midst of real civil rights fights. It has no executive power and can only hold hearings and issue reports and studies on civil rights issues. But it has a power that should not be underestimated; namely, the power to create storylines and narratives all stamped with the imprimatur of the commission. The commission even has subpoena power. Just in the past few years, it has falsely opined that Trump’s Federal Emergency Management Agency made racist decisions in handing out hurricane relief and that the right to self-defense is racist. Despite having some good commissioners appointed by Trump during his first term and Republican in Congress, it has long since outlived its usefulness and has turned into an agency that promotes every bizarre, unsupported claim of the far Left and publishes inaccurate, biased propaganda that masquerades as serious research. Republicans currently hold four seats and liberals hold four. Like many split bodies in Washington, the staffers take advantage of the even split. And the staff are almost all uniformly left-wing. Thankfully, one of them—current staff Director Mauro Morales—is on the way out and needs to be replaced posthaste by Trump. In an example of the typical nepotism of Washington between the government and radical advocacy groups, Morales is married to Janet Murguia, the president of UnidosUS, formerly known as the National Council of La Raza. You can see the mindset in the internal email that Morales sent on Jan. 3 to the eight commissioners who run the agency as well as the commission’s staff, announcing his resignation as of Jan. 17. Morales, who was appointed by President Barack Obama—and unfortunately, not replaced during the first Trump administration—bragged about bringing “national attention” to the “mistreatment of immigrant women and children; the unprecedented rise of hate crimes; the deaths of black Americans because of excessive police use of force; the maternal health of women of color; and the assault on voting rights by powerful forces seeking to suppress and intimidate voters.” Not exactly the type of nonpartisan, objective, neutral individual you would want running a federal agency, but typical of the civil service ideologues I encountered in my years in the federal government. The eight commissioners, four appointed by the president and four appointed by Congress, are supposed to run the agency. But you wouldn’t know that from the reign of Morales, who ran the agency with dictatorial assurance, doing everything he could to block the Republican commissioners. Sources inside the commission tell me that: At one hearing, he cut off questions by Commissioner Pete Kirsanow who was asking a witness questions about discrimination against Asian college students, telling Kirsanow he could no longer ask questions. When the commissioners—Democrat and Republican alike—asked to have an opportunity to be introduced to the staff and learn about the work they do, Mauro refused and the commissioners were prohibited from interacting with the staff. Morales was so paranoid about preventing the commissioners from knowing what he was doing that he installed a high-end security lock on his office door that is usually kept locked, even when he is in the office. “This combination lock is the frequent jest of some of the commissioners,” a source told me, “who wonder what top secret documents he must be keeping in his office, since such locks are normally used by offices involved in national security or narcotics investigations.” Morales basically refused to report his activities to the commissioners, routinely stating at public meetings that he had nothing to report to the commissioners or the public about his work. When he would offer to answer questions outside of such meetings, even then he would seldom actually respond. Without getting the approval of the commissioners, Morales turned the commission into a virtual agency, allowing staff to work at home with little supervision, and with only rare occasional visits to the commission offices in D.C. Morales hired a slew of far-left ideologues in key civil rights positions within the commission, essentially engaging in political hiring. With the assistance of the Democratic chairwoman of the commission, Rochelle Garza (who lost the race for attorney general of Texas to Ken Paxton), Morales constantly canceled scheduled commission meetings, in an apparent effort to thwart the authority of the Republican commissioners and give the left-wing staff more power to run the agency without their supervision. As just one example of Morales’ machinations, he manipulated one study of the commission sponsored by Commissioner J. Christian Adams (a Trump appointee) to study the harmful impact of crime increases in minority communities due to “defund the police” policies and the election of rogue prosecutors. Morales refused to call witnesses requested by the commissioners and engaged in other actions resulting in a study that was such a farce that Adams voted against the final report, even though he sponsored the study. The report went off the rails: Instead of studying the effects of increased crime on minorities, the study purported to conclude that crime wasn’t increasing, which would be quite a surprise to the residents of urban areas such as New York and Chicago. But Morales’ politics are such that he would not allow a truthful study to come out about the harmful effects of anti-law enforcement policies, which he wholeheartedly supports. The bottom line is this: Every political appointment that Trump and his Cabinet secretaries make inside every executive branch agency, board, and independent commission should be a hard-charging individual who believes in the Constitution, the rule of law, and principles of fairness, and in limiting the power and reach of the federal government so that it does not unduly interfere in our lives. Mauro Morales leaves behind a federal agency with a large staff and outsized budget. Trump should replace him with someone who will undo the extensive damage that Morales has caused. INSANE: Soros-Funded Group Praises Biden’s ‘Vital Mechanism of Mercy’ Criminal Clemency Abuse

INSANE: Soros-Funded Group Praises Biden’s ‘Vital Mechanism of Mercy’ Criminal Clemency Abuse

A George Soros-funded group is actually arguing that President Joe Biden’s outrageous abuse of the clemency power should be used more often as an act of “mercy.” The Brennan Center for Justice posted a piece on X Jan. 5 praising Biden, and captioned it with one of the article’s hot takes that just reeked of Soros’s soft-on-crime approach to criminal justice all over it. “When it comes to ensuring a fair justice system, we believe the presidential clemency power should be used more frequently as a vital mechanism of mercy,” Brennan Center’s ironically-named “Senior Director” of “Justice” Lauren-Brooke Eisen wrote. The nutty piece, written Dec. 12, boasted that Biden’s moves were “a major step in the right direction and a recognition of the excessively punitive nature of our criminal justice system.” Apparently subjecting mass murderers to capital punishment for slaughtering people is also considered “excessive” and “punitive.” Good grief. This was written just 11 days before Biden would commute the sentences of “at least five child killers and several mass murderers” just before Christmas, according to the New York Post. These included some of “the nation’s most violent murderers — nine of them found too dangerous to live after butchering fellow inmates.” On a separate note, Biden would also later release 11 Yemeni detainees from Guantanamo Bay prison on Jan. 6, two of which were alleged to be the bodyguards for 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. Soros funneled $4,950,000 into Brennan’s coffers between 2016 and 2023 alone. When it comes to ensuring a fair justice system, we believe the presidential clemency power should be used more frequently as a vital mechanism of mercy. https://t.co/DNRdwc8RaQ — Brennan Center (@BrennanCenter) January 5, 2025 But Brennan wasn’t fazed about reposting Eisen’s Dec.12 piece like Biden was doing some favor to society by letting mass murderers escape their fates. “There are thousands more Americans serving unjust sentences who also deserve pardons or commutations,” and apparently that included the death row inmates for whom Biden would eventually grant clemency. “We are still hopeful that he will grant clemency to the more than 40 people on federal death row whose sentences can be commuted to life without parole and more than 6,000 serving racially disparate drug sentences,” pleaded Eisen. But it wouldn’t be long before Brennan would do a complete 180-degree turnaround on this and commit a gross act of hypocrisy in the face of the levers of political power eventually changing hands Jan. 20. “Trump Pardoning Jan. 6 Insurrectionists Would Endorse Attacks on Democracy,” read Brennan’s Jan. 3 screed written by Senior Fellow and MSNBC Legal Analyst Joyce Vance. In an unbelievable display of complete lack of self-awareness, Vance railed that “[p]ardoning [Jan. 6 defendants] would be, as Brennan Center President Michael Waldman has said, a misuse of the president’s clemency power.” Ah, so commuting sentences for mass murderers and child killers isn’t a misuse of clemency power, but pardoning Jan. 6 defendants is? Wait, what! Advocating on behalf of criminals, however, is right in line with the Soros brand of justice. MRC Business released an extensive exposé revealing how the Soros machine directs and controls the radical soft-on-crime prosecutors tearing apart the justice system across the country after obtaining 7,785 pages of internal communications and documents through public records requests. What was revealed was how Soros-funded groups set the political agenda for the prosecutors, incentivizing them to target police and the left’s political opponents while pushing them not to enforce certain laws, constituting an unlawful “prosecutorial veto” of duly established laws. The Brennan Center was named in the report. At the time of the report’s release, at least 30 percent of the U.S. population were living under the boot of the Soros prosecutors who were pressured to sign pledges vowing to adhere to various Soros priorities. MRC Business calculated that Soros invested at least $117 million to install, direct and control at least 126 radicalized prosecutors. Couple Soros’s vice grip on the American criminal justice system with the $35 million he spent on anti-police groups and causes he’s funded since 2021 and you have a steamroller dedicated to crushing the fabric of law and order in the U.S. It's no wonder then why Biden would choose to flip America the middle finger by eventually giving Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom just before he’s put out to pasture. The Soros machine’s grossly anti-American view of justice was apparently guiding Biden’s own.

Haass Tries To Claim Jimmy Carter Was 'The Forerunner' To Ronald Reagan

President emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Haass had an interesting take on Tuesday’s installment of Morning Joe on MSNBC. Ahead of former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral, he claimed that Carter was actually the “forerunner” to Ronald Reagan. Haass declared that “I actually think Jimmy Carter was a really interesting foreign policy person, who at one and the same time was both an idealist and a realist. In some ways, if you think about him, he was the forerunner of Ronald Reagan. He put human rights front and center on the foreign policy agenda, but he was still willing to deal with regimes like China and the Soviet Union, which to me, you know, was impressive, and he—by the end, he was increasing American defense spending significantly.” The defense spending increases came after the failures of the first half of his term. Part of Carter’s human rights crusade included pulling the rug out from under the Shah of Iran, the consequences of which American presidents are still having to deal with. Reagan’s focus helped bring down the Soviet Union and its grip on Eastern Europe. As for Haass, he continued, “He understood that yes, he was a man of peace, but he understood the world wasn't there. So, he went through the Camp David thing, but he jacked up American defense spending significantly. All of our military capabilities in the Middle East, what we now call Central Command, guess what? They had their origins in late '79, early '80 under Jimmy Carter and his Pentagon. So, I actually think there's much more continuity between Carter and Reagan than anybody understands, and so I would give him a lot of credit for what he did.” It is hard to imagine the day when the state funeral for Donald Trump happens, an MSNBC foreign policy bigwig claiming that the conversion of Pacific Command to Indo-Pacific Command represents some grand success or that he was some combination of an idealist and realist who was ready to talk to North Korea, got the Abraham Accords signed, and upheld the red line on Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapons usage. And yet, Haass isn’t even correct when he says “all of” the military capabilities that came to define the 1980s started under Carter. The B-1 Bomber was cancelled by Carter and revived by Reagan while the 600 naval ship buildup that helped bankrupt the Soviet Union was an exclusively Reagan strategy. Here is a transcript for the January 7 show: MSNBC Morning Joe 1/7/2024 6:39 PM ET RICHARD HAASS: So, I actually think Jimmy Carter was a really interesting foreign policy person, who at one and the same time was both an idealist and a realist. In some ways, if you think about him, he was the forerunner of Ronald Reagan. He put human rights front and center on the foreign policy agenda, but he was still willing to deal with regimes like China and the Soviet Union, which to me, you know, was impressive, and he—by the end, he was increasing American defense spending significantly. He understood that yes, he was a man of peace, but he understood the world wasn't there. So, he went through the Camp David thing, but he jacked up American defense spending significantly. All of our military capabilities in the Middle East, what we now call Central Command, guess what? They had their origins in late '79, early '80 under Jimmy Carter and his Pentagon. So, I actually think there's much more continuity between Carter and Reagan than anybody understands, and so I would give him a lot of credit for what he did.

Democrats overwhelmingly vote against Laken Riley Act

The House passed the Laken Riley Act on Tuesday, with a majority of Democrats voting against the bill. The Laken Riley Act is the first bill in the 119th Congress addressing illegal immigration, requiring that aliens charged with theft or burglary be detained. The landmark legislation was named after Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien while she was jogging at the University of Georgia. Despite the overwhelming resistance from 159 Democrats, 48 voted with 216 Republicans to pass the legislation. 'President Biden never apologized to Laken's family for allowing her killer into our country, but he DID apologize for calling that monster an illegal.'The bill was also passed in the House during the 118th Congress, with 170 Democrats voting against it. Notably, 37 Democrats joined 214 Republicans to pass the bill. Speaker Mike Johnson praised the legislation, saying it will "ensure criminals like Laken's murderer are detained & deported before they can commit such evil acts.""President Biden never apologized to Laken's family for allowing her killer into our country, but he DID apologize for calling that monster an illegal," Johnson added. Under President Joe Biden's administration, there have been over 8 million encounters with illegal migrants on the southern border alone. As a result, illegal immigration has exacerbated the housing crisis and flooded communities with criminals, all at the cost of the taxpayer. Supporters of former U.S. president and 2024 presidential hopeful Donald Trump hold images of Laken Riley before he speaks at a "Get Out the Vote" rally in Rome, Georgia, on March 9, 2024. Photo by ELIJAH NOUVELAGE/AFP via Getty Images"This isn’t a partisan issue, but those on the Left will continue to prioritize 'political correctness' over American lives," Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona said. After enduring four years of the Biden administration's burdensome border crisis, Americans rejected the Democratic Party at the ballot box. Leading up to the presidential election, immigration had become a top priority for voters. President-elect Donald Trump spent his campaign addressing illegal immigration as a crisis and vowing mass deportations. At the same time, Trump's Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, avoided the topic altogether. The message on November 5 was loud and clear, and Congress took note. Like Blaze News? Trump says he will rename the Gulf of Mexico

Trump says he will rename the Gulf of Mexico

President-elect Donald Trump said during a media briefing Tuesday morning that he would seek to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico. Trump was addressing various topics before reporters at his residence at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, when he made the announcement. 'What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate.' “We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America,” Trump said. “What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate. And Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country.”Trump has signaled a far more contentious relationship with Mexico under his administration over criticism that Mexico has not done enough to stem the tide of illegal immigration. In a previous announcement, Trump said that he would slap the country with a 25% tariff if its leaders would not start helping end illegal immigration. "We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price!" Trump said at the time. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded in an open letter that warned the U.S. and Mexico would both suffer economically if Trump's tariffs sparked a trade war. "Among Mexico's main exporters to the United States are General Motors, Stellantis, and Ford Motor Company, which arrived in Mexico 80 years ago," read the statement. "Why impose a tariff that would jeopardize them? Such a measure would be unacceptable and would lead to inflation and job losses in both the United States and Mexico."She also pointed out that Mexico has already been working with U.S. law enforcement to try to stop illegal immigration. Mexico and Canada are the two top trading partners for the U.S., as both countries take in about $300 billion worth of exports from the U.S. per year. Like Blaze News?
