NBC Skips Columbia University President Finally Resigning After Pro-Hamas Chaos

Four months after pro-Hamas terrorists took over the Columbia University campus and made it a no-go zone for Jewish students, university president Minouche Shafik finally resigned in disgrace. But while the Thursday newscasts of ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS Mornings found time to report on the resignation, NBC’s Today couldn’t spare even a few seconds to mention it. Perhaps NBC was too busy freaking out over Senator and vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance promoting the benefits of children having a relationship with their grandparents. But it makes sense for NBC to want to ignore the school now. As NewsBusters reported in April, NBC tried to discredit the Jewish victims at the school, they ignored the blood thirsty rant against Jews by the encampment’s leader, and they ignored the terrorists praising Hamas with “glory to our martyrs.” While Good Morning America did cover Shafik’s resignation, co-anchor Linsey Davis sped through it in 18 seconds: But first, the top headlines we’re following right now. The president of Columbia University has resigned. Minouche Shafik came under fire for her handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations. She is the third president of a major U.S. university to resign after testifying before Congress about anti-Semitism on their campuses. Her resignation is effective immediately.     In contrast, CBS Mornings gave the story over two minutes of air-time (2:10). “Another high-profile college leader has resigned after the campus unrest that we saw last spring,” announced co-anchor Gayle King. “Columbia University president Minouche Shafik had been roundly criticized for her response to the pro-Palestinian demonstrations on that campus.” Reporter Tom Manson downplayed the mass violence that took place and the threats against Jewish students, and made it about how Shafik just rubbed everyone the wrong way: In her resignation letter, she cited the turbulent period saying it had been, quote, “a period of turmoil where it has been difficult to overcome divergent views across our community.” Columbia University's encampment was the epicenter of pro-Palestinian protests across college campuses last spring. At times those demonstrations took a violent turn and resulted in mass arrests after Shafik twice called in the NYPD to dismantle the tent city. And culminating with hundreds of police officers moving in to clear out protesters that occupied a campus building. (…) Shafik's actions prompted criticism not just from pro-Palestinian students but also Jewish students who said they lived in fear on campus. “Resulting in calls for her to step down including from lawmakers who visited Columbia during the protests,” he added. “Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson in a social media post last night wrote, ‘Jewish students at Columbia beginning this school year should breathe a sigh of relief.’” The time NBC spent on Vance was nearly a minute (57 seconds); enough time to hit somewhere between ABC’s 18 seconds and CBS’s 130 seconds if they wanted to cover the resignation. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s Good Morning America August 15, 2024 7:30:40 a.m. Eastern LINSEY DAVIS: But first, the top headlines we’re following right now. The president of Columbia University has resigned. Minouche Shafik came under fire for her handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations. She is the third president of a major U.S. university to resign after testifying before Congress about anti-Semitism on their campuses. Her resignation is effective immediately. CBS Mornings August 15, 2024 7:06:04 a.m. Eastern GAYLE KING: Another high-profile college leader has resigned after the campus unrest that we saw last spring. Columbia University president Minouche Shafik had been roundly criticized for her response to the pro-Palestinian demonstrations on that campus. The new school year begins in just three weeks, so “why now?” is the question. As Tom Hanson reports, Shafik is the third ivy league president to step down in connection to protests against the war in Gaza. [Cuts to video] TOM HANSON: Nearly four months after fierce protests over the Israel-Hamas war gripped Columbia university and backlash by students, faculty, and lawmakers alike over her testimony on Capitol Hill -- MINOUCHE SHAFIK: Anti-Semitism has no place on our campus, and I am personally committed to doing everything I can. HANSON: The school's president, Minouche Shafik, stepped down Wednesday, just one year into the role. In her resignation letter, she cited the turbulent period saying it had been, quote, “a period of turmoil where it has been difficult to overcome divergent views across our community.” Columbia University's encampment was the epicenter of pro-Palestinian protests across college campuses last spring. At times those demonstrations took a violent turn and resulted in mass arrests after Shafik twice called in the NYPD to dismantle the tent city. And culminating with hundreds of police officers moving in to clear out protesters that occupied a campus building. PROTESTER: Minouche Shafik, shame on you! HANSON: Shafik's actions prompted criticism not just from pro-Palestinian students but also Jewish students who said they lived in fear on campus. YOLA ASHKENAZIE: When they harangue us with chants of "From the river to the sea," Shafik doesn't want us to believe our own eyes and ears. HANSON: Resulting in calls for her to step down including from lawmakers who visited Columbia during the protests. SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON (R-LA): I am here today joining my colleagues in calling on public Shafik to resign -- HANSON: Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson in a social media post last night wrote, "Jewish students at Columbia beginning this school year should breathe a sigh of relief." For CBS Mornings, I'm Tom Hanson.

Kamala’s Deceitful Google Ads ‘Part of Her Strategy,’ MRC’s Schneider Warns

Kamala’s Deceitful Google Ads ‘Part of Her Strategy,’ MRC’s Schneider Warns

Media pundits have clutched their pearls at Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign for deceitfully editing news headlines in Google ads. But MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider said the scandal was predictable. In a Wednesday interview on Fox Business’s The Evening Edit, Schneider said this scandal is in line with the rules-for-thee-but-not-for-me mantra of the Biden-Harris administration’s fight against misinformation. “This is all part of her strategy,” he told Fox Business anchor Elizabeth MacDonald. “The Kamala Harris campaign has made one thing clear, that news that is accurately reflective of her views has to be deemed misinformation, but her deceptive ads are supposed to be honored because they actually help her,” Schneider stated. Schneider’s comments stem from information first discovered by AllSides, and later picked up by Axios, which busted the Harris-Walz presidential campaign for running Google ads news reports with fictitious headlines. Harris’s ultimate goal? Whitewashing her reputation while tucking away from the leftist-friendly media. “She is, obviously, not speaking to reporters,” Schneider said, referring to Harris not holding a press conference since Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her (25 days, to be specific).  Schneider further expanded, “She does not want to speak to the American voter through the media, but she is very creative and running a very effective ad campaign. And she's running micro-targeted ads to segments of the voting population. And that is why she has really picked up in the polls.” The approval pick-up is triggered by what Schneider called a “fraud on the American voter.” He warned, however, that “we can't merely complain” as Big Tech platforms are putting their thumbs on the scale ahead of the election.  In remarks to Axios, Google reportedly said Harris’s cunningly edited ads did not violate its terms of service. They did this because it “helps her,” Schneider declared. Harris’s plan to run fake headlines as Google ads followed the release of a bombshell Media Research Center/McLaughlin & Associates poll showing that between 71 and 86 percent of Democrat and Independent voters either had no knowledge of the most radical positions previously endorsed by the vice president or were unsure. Fox News anchor and comedian Greg Gutfeld juxtaposed the deceitful Google ads with the MRC polls to explain how Harris plans to keep Americans in the dark about her policies. The policies include allowing death row inmates to vote, endorsing Medicare-for-all, upending ICE and co-sponsoring the Green New Deal. “According to an MRC poll, over 70% of Democrats aren't familiar with Harris's radical policies—and that's a win for Harris. But it's got to be weird to be happy when fewer people know about your beliefs: ‘They don't think I'm as crazy as I really am,’” he said on the Wednesday installment of The Five. “If you're grateful that you're hiding them from the public, you know, why not just listen to the public and have to, like, worry about what you said before? It’s like a cheating husband: ‘What did I say before? I’ve gotta keep lying.’ No, why don't you just listen to the people?” Conservatives are under attack. DNC 2024 will stream on more than a dozen platforms – including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube

Once the 2024 Democratic National Convention gets underway in Chicago next week, get ready -- you're going to see live DNC footage everywhere you go online. For the first time, next week's convention at which Kamala Harris will be nominated as her party's standard-bearer will stream on more than a dozen major platforms ranging from TikTok to Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, Prime Video, and more. It's a first for the DNC, which this year will not only offer an unprecedented number of ways to tune in to the proceedings -- its blanketing of the internet also aligns with the Harris campaign's usage of more than 175 staffers whose work includes “digital persuasion and mobilization,” according to Semafor. That digitally oriented work includes everything from meme-y posts to responding to breaking news events across the Kamala Harris and KamalaHQ social channels, which also benefit from a Gen Z rapid response team that produces daily content. “With more and more Americans consuming their news in new and innovative ways, Democrats stand ready to meet them where they are -- and to bring our vision for a brighter future to households all across the country," DNCC Executive Director Alex Hornbrook said about the convention, which will take place from Aug. 19-22. In addition to offering a range of accessible viewing options, the DNC will also be available with English and Spanish language audio along with corresponding captions in both languages. The DNCC will also provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and audio description services to its streaming partners. Among the platforms and URLs that will take viewers to the DNC's online content are: DemConvention.com/watch YouTube.com/demconvention   x.com/demconvention   tiktok.com/@demconvention   instagram.com/demconvention   Facebook.com/demconvention   Twitch.tv/demconvention Amazon Prime Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y52w0sVwFvI Don't Miss: The internet has already decided who should portray Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, on SNL The post DNC 2024 will stream on more than a dozen platforms – including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube appeared first on BGR. Medieval Coin Treasure Unearthed in Glottertal: A Glimpse into the 14th-Century Economy

One of the largest medieval coin hoards in recent decades has been unearthed in Glottertal, a picturesque village in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Germany. This extraordinary find, consisting of approximately 1,600 coins, offers a rare window into the economic practices of 14th-century Europe and sheds light on the region's minting activity, silver trade, and the broader monetary circulation in Breisgau. A Routine Task Turns into a Major Archaeological Find The treasure was discovered by Claus Völker, a local citizen who was assisting with the laying of a pipeline near the village swimming pool in early May 2024, records a Stuttgart Regional Council  press release. Völker's sharp eye caught sight of what he initially described as "small metal plates" within the excavation. Realizing the potential significance of these objects, he promptly reported the find to the State Office for Monument Preservation (LAD) in the Stuttgart Regional Council. LAD archaeologists, alongside Völker, visited the site the same day to recover the coins, and discovered a whopping 1000 coins. On subsequent visits, a team of certified detectorists braved difficult conditions, including heavy rains that turned the excavation site into knee-deep mud, and uncovered an additional 600 coins, bringing the total to around 1,600.
