Marc Andreessen is one of the most fascinating people to listen to right now. Some people know a lot about a little, some people know a little about a lot, but Andreessen knows a lot about a lot.  As best I can tell, there are very few topics that this guy can’t go super deep on. He just say down with Lex Fridman and they talked for almost four hours….and it was absolutely fascinating! It felt like 40 minutes, not 4 hours, just moving from one topic to the next, and giving really incredible insights that you’ve never considered before on each topic. Anyway, I love listening to him and learning from him, but for some reason he has me blocked on Twitter, which is disappointing.  Perhaps it was because I once asked why he had a big old giant cone head, I don’t know.  Marc, let’s be friends again on X, ok? Anyway, all joking aside, out of the nearly 4 hour interview, all of which was fascinating, there was one little clip that I have to share with you…and I think you’re going to like it. Andreessen makes very clear he’s not on DOGE and not part of the Trump Administration, although he is consulting and helping where he can (he refers to himself as an unpaid intern), but he says he’s seen the “secret plans” they have for DOGE and he said it blew his mind! He goes on to say it’s nothing less than you’d expect from Elon, absolutely brilliant. And he also addresses why things like this have failed in the past, but why he thinks DOGE will succeed. They’re like, “This is impossible. This could never possibly work.” And I’m like, “Well, I can’t tell you what the secret plans are, but blow my mind.” And all three of those, they have ideas that are really quite amazing, as you’d expect from the people involved. So, over the course of the next few months, that’ll start to become visible. And then the final thing I would say is this is going to be very different than attempts like that. There have been other programs like this in the past. The Clinton administration had one, and then there were others before that—Reagan had one. The difference is, this time, there’s social media. It’s interesting—one of the reasons people in Washington are so cynical is because they know all the bullshit. They know all the bad spending, all the bad rules, and all the— I mean, look, we’re adding a trillion dollars to the national debt every hundred days right now. And that’s compounding. It’s now passing the size of the Defense Department budget. It’s compounding, and pretty soon it’s gonna be adding a trillion dollars every 90 days. Then it’s gonna be adding a trillion dollars every 80 days, and then a trillion dollars every 70 days. If this doesn’t get fixed at some point, we enter a hyperinflationary spiral, and we become Argentina or Brazil—and kablooey, right? Everybody in DC knows that something has to be done. But everybody in DC also knows for a fact that it’s impossible to do anything. They know all the problems, and they also know the sheer impossibility of fixing it. Things may be getting dicey down on the Texas border as President Trump’s border security and immigration enforcement plans ratchet up. First, there are reports that cartel members on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande fired upon U.S. Border Patrol Agents on the Texas side of the border. There was apparently a group of migrants attempting to cross the river (smugglers…?) when the gunmen opened fire on the Agents, who then returned fire across the river into Mexico. The exchange of gunfire successfully deterred the group, and the illegal aliens did not make it across the river. No injuries were reported among the agents or the individuals involved. Authorities are continuing to monitor the area closely. This is a seriously troubling sign, because cartels have mostly controlled their members from taking action against American Border Patrol Agents or U.S. assets. The general working system for the cartels is to go about their business while giving the U.S. as little reason as possible to target them. They also operate in a way that allows elements of the Mexican federal government to work with the cartels, and any violent action against American interests is considered dangerous to that relationship between the cartels and the Mexican authorities — who would then attract increased pressure from the U.S. to crack down on the cartels. This is a serious development, highlighting that cartels are likely taking the reigns off their members and allowing direct action to be taken against American Border Patrol assets as a response to President Trump’s Executive Order designating the cartels as terrorist organizations. Here’s a Fox News report about that designation: At the moment it is also being reported by Bill Melugin, who initially broke the story, as well as other news sources that Mexican military is currently staging assets across the river on the Mexican side where the gunfight just occurred. Melugin is reporting that Lieutenant Chris Olivarez with the Texas DPS is confirming the movement of Mexican military assets to the area. Texas DPS @LtChrisOlivarez tells me DPS is now patrolling the area and has a drone in the air and can see Mexican military assets now staging on the other side of the river. pic.twitter.com/z61RkrVvEq — Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) January 27, 2025 This is a quickly developing situation, and I can not confirm a link at this time — but this firefight comes on the heels of a Sinaloa cartel member arrested in Texas. The cartel member was loaded for war carrying 3,000 rounds of ammo, 2 pistols, and 3 rifles when U.S. ICE Agents arrested him over the weekend, according to a report by Fox News: A member of the Sinaloa cartel was arrested in Texas by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over the weekend and was found to be carrying three rifles, two pistols and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition, sources tell Fox News. The individual — who is from Mexico — was taken into custody in El Paso, the sources added. Across the U.S., ICE operations this past weekend resulted in more than 1,000 arrests. The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said last year that the U.S. is facing the “most dangerous and deadly drug crisis” in its history with fentanyl and methamphetamine flowing across the border — and that the “Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels are at the heart of this crisis.” As stated, it can not be confirmed at this time whether or not these two events are linked. But historically there have been immediate upticks in violent actions by the cartels any time members are arrested, particularly high ranking members. The interwoven nature of some Mexican cartels with the Mexican government — and Mexican military — is a particularly dangerous aspect to these types of situations. The question begs asking: are the military assets being staged across the Rio Grande doing so for the responsible securing of the border area in light of the event that just took place? Or are these elements of the Mexican military friendly to the local cartel, responding more as backup to their own allies? Border Patrol Agents reportedly fired into Mexico as they were returning fire.  That means there was cross-border gunfire going both ways. Technically, that is an act of war. It thus remains to be seen exactly how this situation plays out, and what it might portend for U.S. / Mexican relations as President Trump secures our border, deports illegals, and targets cartels as the terrorists that they are. Major news outlets are just starting to pick up the story about the gunfight. There are reportedly no injuries from the gunfight that erupted on the Rio Grande across from Starr County in Texas according to a report just issued by Newsweek: According to multiple news outlets, including Fox News, U.S. Border Patrol agents near Fronton, Texas, exchanged gunfire at the southern border with suspected drug cartel gunmen from Mexico. According to reports, there were no injuries in the incident near Fronton Island, an uninhabited island in the Rio Grande in Starr County, Texas. “Per multiple law enforcement sources, within the last hour, Border Patrol agents near Fronton, TX were fired upon from MX by suspected cartel gunmen as a group of illegal aliens were being brought across the river. I’m told BP returned fire, nobody hit on either side, and that the illegal aliens did not make it across,” Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported on X, formerly Twitter. Thankfully, as far as this incident goes, it is being reported that there are no injuries on the Texas side. As things continue to heat up, that is going to be an outcome that will likely get harder and harder to duplicate. President Trump wins again! Actually, it’s not about President Trump getting the credit, it’s about President Trump winning FOR the people! And that’s what just happened again. Three days ago, President Trump travelled to Los Angeles and met with Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass and told them both to their faces what they needed to do. They drug their heels and did what Government always does: causes unreasonable delay and adds unreasonable expense. And they were rolling out that game plan again for the Pacific Palisades, but President Trump shut down Karen Bass right to her face, called her out and told her it was unacceptable. The people wanted access to their lots right now so they can begin clearing the debris, and Mayor Bass said “maybe in a week” (probably longer). Mayor Karen Bass that the Pacific Palisades will be completely reopened to residents in daylight hours on Monday, January 27 — far ahead of schedule. Two days before, at a roundtable at a local fire station on Friday, Bass had told President Donald Trump that it was unsafe for residents to return. After residents at the meeting objected, Bass relented and said they could return “within a week.” Trump replied: “That’s a long time, a week. I’ll be honest, to me, everyone standing in front of their house, they want to go to work and they’re not allowed to do it. … They’re safe. They’re safe. You know what? They’re not safe. They’re not safe now. They’re going to be much safer. A week, a week is actually a long time the way I look at it.” As Breitbart News reported, Palisades residents, many emboldened by the president, started flocking to their homes and lots on Saturday, often talking their way past police. And on Sunday, the county finally relented and agreed to let them return on Monday, weather permitting. The policy change went into effect at noon on Monday. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of our public safety, public works, and utilities partners – as of noon [Monday] all of the Pacific Palisades will be opened for resident re-entry,” said Los Angeles Councilwoman Traci Park in a video posted to her Instagram page. “This is a watershed moment and I want to thank you all for your patience to allow these workers to clear major hazards.” According to Park, as part of the update, the stretch of Pacific Coast Highway along the Pacific Palisades will be reopened for resident-only traffic. Eyewitness News was told residents will still need police escorts but you can check in at Lot 3 for re-entry. Park said residents will be allowed to go back between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., but the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew will remain in effect. For those in the Highlands, due to the rain, Palisades Drive has only one open lane, so drivers are being asked to be patient. Gov. Gavin Newsom is suspending Coastal Commission rules to make it easier for victims of the L.A. wildfires to rebuild. Newsom issued an executive order Monday, reiterating that permitting requirements under the California Coastal Act remain suspended. The order also extends the amount of time people can stay at hotels and short-term rentals. “As the state helps the Los Angeles area rebuild and recover, we will continue to remove barriers and red tape that stand in the way,” said Newsom in a statement released on Monday. “We will not let over-regulation stop us from helping the LA community rebuild and recover.” What does the executive order say? The order responds to Coastal Commission guidance that suggested rebuilds are subject to Coastal Act exemption provisions and procedures and reiterates that all permitting requirements under the California Coastal Act are suspended. A press release from Newsom’s office said the “legally erroneous guidance” threatened to create confusion and delay rebuilding efforts. Oh the irony: You have to show an ID to get back into palisades community, but you don’t have to show ID to vote in California. Acting AG James McHenry just gave over a dozen DOJ officials tied to Jack Smith their walking papers. Why? McHenry has transmitted a letter to each official notifying them of their termination, a Justice Department official exclusively told Fox News Digital. It is unclear how many officials received that letter. The names of the individuals were not immediately released. “Today, Acting Attorney General James McHenry terminated the employment of a number of DOJ officials who played a significant role in prosecuting President Trump,” a DOJ official told Fox News Digital. “In light of their actions, the Acting Attorney General does not trust these officials to assist in faithfully implementing the President’s agenda.” This action “is consistent with the mission of ending the weaponization of government,” the official told Fox News Digital. The move comes after the Justice Department reassigned more than a dozen officials in the first week of the Trump administration to a Sanctuary City task force and other measures.
