Proclaiming Jesus by Serving With Joy – Encouragement for Today – April 19‚ 2024

April 19‚ 2024 Proclaiming Jesus by Serving With JoySHALA W. GRAHAM Lee en espa&;ntilde;ol &;quot;God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.&;quot; 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT) My strong belief in serving others is a quality I learned from my mother. When I was young‚ I remember a time my mother pulled up to a stoplight as I rode in the car with her‚ and I watched her give to a person standing beside the road. &;quot; This is my good deed for the day‚&;quot; she said. Her example set an expectation to do good daily. In September 2023‚ I finally got to take my mother to her home country‚ the Philippines‚ after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled her flight in February 2020. Over those three years‚ Mom experienced kidney failure and required dialysis‚ so we coordinated with healthcare providers for her to receive treatment during her long-awaited visit. But after one of her treatments‚ Mom wasn't feeling well and needed to rest instead of traveling with me to serve at a local church for the weekend. Twelve hours after I left that morning‚ she still hadn't gotten out of bed to eat and take her medicine. I wondered if I needed to return early since we had no family in that town who could help. But then I remembered the house manager‚ Joy‚ who had been so kind to us during our stay so far. I sent out a cry for help&;#33; Within an hour‚ Joy came to my mom‚ cooked her fish and rice‚ and had her take her medicine. I didn't want to inconvenience Joy by asking her to serve Mom again the next day‚ but I prayed for God to provide and committed not to worry. Around noon‚ I received a message saying Joy had made my mom breakfast and lunch. To say I rejoiced was an understatement&;#33; Joy's service to my mother was a timely example of the scriptures taught at church that Sunday: &;quot;God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking&;#63; Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others&;#63; Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever&;#33; Amen&;quot; (1 Peter 4:10-11‚ NLT). In ancient Israel‚ the gift of hospitality was highly valued. Christians were to be prepared to welcome guests‚ provide food and serve without complaining: &;quot;Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling&;quot; (1 Peter 4:9‚ NIV). Similarly‚ Joy diligently used her spiritual gifts as she served my mom until I returned that evening. She did it with all her strength‚ and her joyful service gave God glory&;#33; Friend‚ would you keep your eyes open and your heart ready to serve those around you‚ whether that be with your time‚ energy‚ possessions or finances&;#63; Your service might just be the answer to someone's earnest prayer. Father‚ You have wisely given Your children various spiritual gifts so we can serve each other. Help us share Jesus with this world by serving others with joy. In Jesus' Name‚ Amen. You have been faithful in handling this small amount‚ so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let's celebrate together&;#33;'&;quot; (NLT). God brings supernatural blessings through you and to you when you engage your spiritual gifts&;#33; When you use your gifts‚ you are releasing Jesus’ love into this world. Multiple African Countries Recall Johnson &; Johnson Drug‚ Elevated Levels Of Toxicity

Multiple African countries have issued a recall for a batch of Johnson &; Johnson children’s cough syrup due to laboratory tests finding elevated levels of toxicity. “Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) announced the recall after laboratory tests found an unacceptably high level of diethylene glycol‚ which is toxic to humans‚ prompting regulators in five other African countries to also issue recalls‚” Reuters reports. Drug regulators in Tanzania‚ Rwanda‚ Kenya‚ South Africa‚ and Zimbabwe also issued recalls of the drug. African states recall Johnson &; Johnson children’s medicine Kenya has followed Nigeria in withdrawing a batch of cough syrups‚ saying they contain deadly toxins Why is this company still a thing&;#63; pic.twitter.com/A0u4rdF75I — Krossa Kat (@ClublessKat) April 18‚ 2024 RT reports: On April 12‚ the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) initiated the recall upon receiving information regarding the Nigerian test findings on the previous day. On the same day‚ the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) issued “the present recall for precautionary measures.” The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) director-general Richard Rukwata stated on Monday that the organization had decided to recall the product. According to the Nigerian regulator’s report‚ “laboratory analysis conducted on the product showed that it contains an unacceptable high level of diethylene glycol and was found to cause acute oral toxicity in laboratory animals.” Diethylene glycol has been reported to cause abdominal pain‚ an inability to pass urine‚ and acute kidney injury‚ which can be fatal. The batch being recalled was manufactured by JNJ in South Africa in May 2021 and has an expiration date of April 2024‚ according to the Kenyan Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB). 3 more countries join African recall of Johnson &; Johnson children cough syrup https://t.co/V6qhypJHDK — Africa Updates (@africaupdates) April 16‚ 2024 Zimbabwe has recalled with immediate effect a tainted children’s cough syrup manufactured by Johnson &; Johnson which was also sold in six African nations. https://t.co/sTsHVaNWVj — Bloomberg (@business) April 15‚ 2024 Per Reuters: South Africa’s drug regulator said on Tuesday that there was no record of adverse reactions in South Africa or anywhere in the world to the two batches of Benylin Paediatric Syrup it recalled. It said it was conducting tests and investigations‚ as was manufacturer Kenvue‚ which now owns the brand after a spin-off from J&;J last year. “We hope to finalise these soon‚” the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority told Reuters. Consuming diethylene glycol can result in acute kidney failure. The substance has been linked to deaths of dozens of children in Gambia‚ Uzbekistan and Cameroon since 2022 in one of the world’s worst waves of poisoning from oral medication. Fraden Bitrus‚ NAFDAC’s director of pharmacovigilance‚ told Reuters the regulator had been testing cough syrups in response to those deaths‚ not because of any specific report of harm to children in Nigeria. “We sampled a number of products. Some failed and some passed. This particular product had been sampled earlier‚ but we were not thinking of diethylene glycol‚ and because of this‚ we decided to test the product again‚” he said.
