Thousands Of Travelers Left In Limbo As Fire Shuts Down One Of World’s Busiest Airports

Global travel was disrupted on Friday as London’s Heathrow Airport shut down due to a fire that broke out at an electrical station.  Heathrow, one of the world’s busiest airports, announced it would be closed until midnight due to a fire that caused two terminals to lose power. The fire, which broke out Thursday, has already impacted more than 1,300 flights, with authorities telling travelers not to come to the airport. Reuters reported that the closure could impact up to 290,000 travelers. “Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage. To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23h59 on 21 March,” the airport posted on X. “Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and should contact their airline for further information. We apologise for the inconvenience.” Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage. London Police said it was working with firefighting authorities to determine the cause, saying the investigation was ongoing.  “While there is currently no indication of foul play we retain an open mind at this time,” the police said in a statement.  The investigation is being led by London’s Counter Terrorism Command because of the location of the power station and the “impact this incident has had on critical national infrastructure,” the Metropolitan Police said. In addition to the airport disruption, more than 67,000 homes in the area lost power due to the fire, and around 179 people were evacuated from the area by firefighters and police.  “I would like to take this opportunity to thank firefighters and Control officers for their courage and professionalism to bring this incident under control in what were very challenging,” said Deputy Commissioner at London Fire Brigade Jonathan Smith.

‘Ahem, AG Pam Bondi’: Oregon 11th-Grade Boy Crushes Girls In Track Meet For 2nd Year In a Row

Defying President Donald Trump’s executive order that aims to prohibit men and boys from participating in female sports, an Oregon high school allowed an 11th-grade boy who identifies as a girl to compete in a Portland Interscholastic League track meet, where he thoroughly dominated the girls in the competition. Last year, Ada (who formerly went by Aayden) Gallagher of Portland’s McDaniel High School won the 200M and 400M races at the 6A-1 Portland Interscholastic League Championship. On Wednesday, he won the 400m race again, timing at 57.62, a full seven seconds faster than Franklin High School’s Kinnaly Souphanthong, who ran the race in 1:05.72. Gallagher also won the 200m again, with a time of 25.76; his teammate Addyson Skyles timed at 27.31. Another day, another boy dominating in girl's sports. Aayden "Ada" Gallagher set a season record and beat the fastest girl by over 7 seconds. This was in Oregon. Ahem, @AGPamBondi pic.twitter.com/8g5ST6EUOs — Riley Gaines (@Riley_Gaines_) March 20, 2025 The Portland Interscholastic League is governed by the Oregon School Activities Association, which states in its handbook, “The OSAA endeavors to allow students to participate for the athletic or activity program of their consistently asserted gender identity while providing a fair and safe environment for all students. As with Rule 8.2 regarding Duration of Eligibility / Graduation, rules such as this one promotes harmony and fair competition among member schools by maintaining equality of eligibility and increase the number of students who will have an opportunity to participate in interscholastic activities.” The Daily Mail noted, “According to an NCSA college recruiting profile, Gallagher – who is listed as 5ft 10ins at 155lbs – writes: ‘I’m able to continue running when thousands of people wish for me to stop and doubt my integrity.’” After Trump issued his executive order, which declared, “It is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy,” Oregon House Minority Leader Christine Drazan, R-Canby, stated she would introduce a bill to amend Oregon’s laws regarding boys in girls’ sports. “Women have fought for — and earned — respect and support for themselves in sports and have made incredible gains in doing so. We must defend that progress and stand up for fairness,” she said. Oregon Senate Minority Leader Daniel Bonham, R-The Dalles, introduced Senate Bill 618, which stated: Each school district shall require that every athletic competition or extracurricular sport is expressly designated by the biological sex of the students who participate in the competition or sport as follows: (a) “Males,” “Men” or “Boys”; (b) “Females,” “Women” or “Girls”; or (c) “Coed.” (2) Students of the biologically male sex may not participate in any athletic competition or extracurricular sport that is designated as “Females,” “Women” or “Girls” under sub- section (1) of this section. Attorney General Pam Bondi warned Maine that it must comply with the president’s executive order banning men from women’s sports and spaces. Earlier this week, the Trump administration gave Maine educational bodies ten days to adhere to its revised Title IX rules. The move follows a rather dramatic scene at the White House, when President Donald Trump challenged Maine Governor Janet Mills (D) for refusing to follow the law on males in girls’ sports.

‘Most Lethal Aircraft Ever Built’: Trump, Hegseth Reveal 6th-Generation Fighter Jet

President Donald Trump, joined by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in the Oval Office on Friday, announced that the U.S. Air Force is moving forward with the production of a new U.S. Military jet called the F-47. Trump said the sixth-generation aircraft has “secretly been flying” over the past five years and is now ready for the U.S. Military. The contract for the F-47’s development was awarded to Boeing, which was competing with Lockheed Martin for the government deal. The new fighter jet will have a human pilot but will be made to operate alongside drones. “The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built,” Trump said, adding, “We’re confident that it massively overpowers the capabilities of any other nation. … This is next-level,” the president told reporters. “The F-47 is equipped with state-of-the-art stealth technology. It’s virtually unseeable,” Trump continued. NEW: Trump says DOD has awarded the contract for the next generation of air dominance to Boeing: pic.twitter.com/JFwCkEbUNG — Mary Margaret Olohan (@MaryMargOlohan) March 21, 2025 The F-47 will replace the F-22 Raptor, which was the world’s first fifth-generation fighter jet, according to Business Insider. The sixth-generation fighter jet is set to hit the skies in full force in the 2030s, The Wall Street Journal reported. Trump did not say what the new fighter jet program will cost, but the WSJ reported that experts predict the price tag could top $50 billion. Hegseth added that the new fighter jet “sends a clear message” to the world and continues America’s air dominance “for generations to come.” “This is a big day for our warfighters. This is a big day for our country, a big day in the world,” Hegseth said. “The name of this program is the Next Generation of Air Dominance.’ And Mr. President, because of your leadership, your clarity, America is going to have generations in the future of air dominance because of this sixth-generation fighter. We’ve had the F-15, we’ve had the F-16, the F-18, the F-22, the F-35, now we have the F-47.” The Defense Secretary praised Trump for pushing the F-47 program forward, saying the Biden administration “paused this program and were prepared to potentially scrap it.” “Under the previous administration, we looked like fools. Not anymore,” Hegseth added. “President Trump has reestablished American leadership. The F-47 is part of it.”
