Senate votes to cancel Biden-era rule capping bank overdraft fees

The Senate voted to cancel a rule finalized under former President Joe Biden that capped overdraft fees at large banks and credit unions. The Senate voted 52-48 on Thursday to pass the joint resolution, introduced by Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC), that would rescind the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rule. The resolution passed through the Congressional Review Act, a special legislative process to bypass the filibuster,...

What Does Someone Like Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò Do When DEI Dies?

About seven years ago, an entire industry sprang up. It was centered on racial obsession and grievance. For those who became the prophets of this new gospel — which promulgated the idea that all of America’s problems lay in a pervasive racism that infected all white people — there was fortune and fame to be made. We think primarily of figures like Robin DiAngelo and Ibram X. Kendi as those who profited from this racket, but there are so many more who crafted a livelihood based entirely upon selling this idea of racial division. For instance, take Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò, an associate professor of philosophy at Georgetown University. The grift of racial obsession landed him book deals, speaking tours, and articles in major publications like New York Magazine. In his case, he stressed a need for global reparations — in the form of “cash transfers” as well as drastic institutional change — to address past racial injustices as well as the climate injustices that resulted from colonialism. Only that dramatic intervention, Táíwò asserted, could stand up against what he termed the “Global Racial Empire.” It was a “theory of everything” that crafted a simple solution to all of wokeism’s grievances, including climate change. That solution, of course, was just Marxism on an international scale. In this way, Táíwò was “an academic philosopher who works in the intersection of climate justice and colonialism.” I say “was,” but Táíwò still is just that. Yet, today, the situation for Táíwò and the many others like him is so different that they really need to build their careers from the ground up again. Táíwò can’t simply serve up his gobbledygook in his books and articles and know that the audience will swallow it without question. (And gobbledygook it is. He once said: “[C]limate injustice, runaway climate change, is a bad foundation for building racial justice. It’s going to create the kinds of conflicts and empower the kinds of actors who are hostile to racial justice, who will move many parts of the world backward and who will sacrifice Black, brown, and Indigenous people.”) Audiences will no longer simply nod along, knowing without doubt that Táíwò is a prophet of the future, that his explanations and solutions are morally just and societally inevitable. They will shift uncomfortably in their seats, knowing that the majority of Americans will see his words as poison labeled “DEI.” So what’s a man in Táíwò’s situation to do? Well, Táíwò has found a genius solution: Turn the blame onto radical leftists and tell them that they were too racist to do the leftist revolution correctly. In this way, he can still preach about systemic racism to his core audience, and his oh-so-great words of wisdom will come across as still having relevance at a time when DEI is dead. Essentially, Táíwò has found career longevity in yelling at the choir. In an article Táíwò penned for Slate this month, he argued that the effort to achieve racial justice following the death of George Floyd was “well-intentioned” but that it “was also shot through with empty lip service.” He explained: “[O]n many levels, elite institutions and powerful organizations were performing symbolic identity politics to bolster their reputations without enacting meaningful material reforms. Many efforts were made to rebrand, but not replace, existing institutions.” Táíwò goes on the say that DEI initiatives “wrapped corporate entities in a shawl of faux progressivism.” That’s right-on, really, so you’ve got to give it to Táíwò for seeing what was actually going on to a far greater degree than your usual DEI activist. And Táíwò was early to the party on this; he’s been saying since at least 2022 that racial justice activism had been co-opted by elites who were only looking to advance their own interests. On April 8, Táíwò will continue to advance this same strategy when he gives a talk for the Metro D.C. Democratic Socialists of America. The event’s description begins by pointing blame at leftists: “The neoliberal climate agenda has failed us.” It will certainly be interesting to see how other DEI prophets stay in business now that most people have stopped listening. Public Diplomacy Must Be Made Great Again: Unilateral Disarmament Is Not an Option

A civil war has broken out at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). Trump-appointed senior advisor Kari Lake’s DOGE-powered investigations uncovered enough waste, fraud, and abuse to declare the agency unsalvageable and move to depopulate the entities it oversees, like Voice of America and Radio Free Asia. Entrenched Biden-era holdovers are suing to save their shops and keep their jobs. They imagine themselves as noble defenders of American public diplomacy, and that shutting them down is a gift to the dictators of the world. Bear in mind, these are the same journalists who refused to call Hamas a terrorist organization. (RELATED: Shut Down the Voice of America — It’s a Relic We Don’t Need) Public information is critically important, but the system as it exists today is a pale shadow of what it was when information warriors helped win the Cold War. Our public information agencies used to be jewels in the crown of a full-spectrum national security strategy. Look at the storied history of Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and the U.S. Information Agency (USIA). (RELATED: Mend Don’t End the VOA) These were critical engines of strategic messaging that shaped global pro-American narratives. They told America’s story and gave hope to captive peoples that there could be a future of freedom. When Solidarity leader Lech Wałęsa was asked in 1989 if Radio Free Europe’s Polish Service played an important role in Poland’s struggle for freedom, he replied, “Would there be an earth without the sun?” Within the U.S. government, the importance of these agencies was reflected in their access to power. When Edward R. Murrow headed USIA he was a cabinet-level official with direct access to President John F. Kennedy. Murrow was not just a broadcaster; he was involved in helping craft and execute strategy for some of the most important national security issues of his day. Likewise, with President Ronald Reagan’s USIA Director Charles Wick. He was a personal friend of the Gipper who served with him all eight years. He knew Reagan’s mind and crafted innovative information strategies, harnessed new technologies, and even served as a covert diplomatic liaison for the president. When Wick encountered bureaucratic pushback, he would say dismissively, “Go tell the president.” Unfortunately, America’s victory in the Cold War spelled the end of this golden age of U.S. public diplomacy. A series of legislative reforms in the optimistic and, in retrospect, foolhardy 1990s spirit of the “end of history,” eviscerated the power, influence, and strategic purpose of our public diplomacy agencies. A new firewall detached staff from strategy, reducing output to echoes of what the mainstream media was already doing. Indeed, much of VOA’s recent output has been news reports copied and pasted from expensive wire services. Far from their intended role as top-level executive instruments of public diplomacy, the new agencies became bureaucratic backwaters, increasingly ineffective and wracked with low morale, waste, corruption, and security violations. Previous attempts at reform were vigorously resisted, which makes Lake’s current sledgehammer approach seem necessary. But in no way does that mean that the United States should abandon the work of public diplomacy. Our global adversaries continue to be masterful at shaping anti-American messaging, both for consumption abroad and inside our borders. Our country cannot unilaterally disarm in the face of the onslaught of false narratives and propaganda. Instead, the United States requires a serious and effective suite of information agencies that are mission-focused and employ the latest information technologies. The current system is so broken that only a major legislative overhaul will fix it. The misbegotten legislative reforms of the 1990s have to be thrown out, and the public diplomacy agencies reconstituted to their former structure and importance. Congress should immediately begin crafting a comprehensive, mission- and metrics-based legislative overhaul of our public information agencies. The current model has proved to be ineffective and even harmful to our national interest. Lacking Congressional action, USAGM will be left in an endless back-and-forth struggle between the few presidential appointees and hundreds of entitled bureaucrats and grantees. It is ironic and troubling that the United States, where the modern Internet-based information age was born, has fallen so far behind its adversaries in conducting operations in the global public information space. Our country can regain primacy and once again tell its own story while shaping narratives promoting freedom and opportunity. Congress, working with the president, must take urgent action to make this a reality. James S. Robbins is the dean of academics at the Institute of World Politics in Washington, D.C., and served on the Trump–Vance transition team for the U.S. Agency for Global Media. READ MORE from James S. Is That Cup of Coffee Killing You?

Is That Cup of Coffee Killing You?

Americans don’t just drink coffee — they exist on it. The United States is the world’s largest coffee market, valued at over $100 billion. More than two-thirds of adults consume it daily, with this figure rising sharply— 37 percent more Americans are dependent on their morning (and often afternoon) cup of coffee today than they were 20 years ago. An average American adult drinks about 3 cups daily, totaling around 1,095 cups of coffee each year. Coffee isn’t just another beverage; it’s the legal stimulant, the elixir of productivity, and the ritualistic fuel powering a nation that never stops moving. Yet, as this caffeine culture grows, so too does the barrage of somewhat jarring headlines: Coffee causes heart disease! Coffee spikes stress hormones! Coffee might be slowly killing you! It’s time to clear the air. Coffee itself isn’t the problem. In its purest, unadulterated form — black and free from harmful additives — coffee is not only safe but also a superfood. What truly poses a danger is what we’ve chosen to put into it. In short, it’s not the coffee that threatens us; it’s the sugar-coated, chemical-laden concoctions we’ve turned it into. For every fear-driven study that casts doubt on coffee’s health benefits, a mountain of research stands in its defense. For instance, a 2018 study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine found that coffee drinkers tend to live longer than those who don’t drink it. Other studies indicate that coffee drinkers have fewer strokes, heart attacks, and cognitive declines than their coffee-rejecting counterparts. There is even data that suggests coffee consumption lowers suicide risk. This is likely due to its mood-enhancing effects. Caffeine stimulates the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which can help combat feelings of depression. Beyond these mood benefits, coffee also sharpens focus, boosts endurance, and is packed with polyphenols. These powerful compounds fight inflammation and oxidative stress, further supporting mental and physical well-being. Of course, too much caffeine can interfere with sleep or spike cortisol levels, especially if abused. But moderate coffee consumption — one to three cups of quality black stuff — is generally free of serious health risks for most individuals. In fact, when consumed responsibly, coffee may just be one of the healthiest drinks on the planet. To expand on my earlier point: the real danger doesn’t lie in coffee itself, but in the so-called “coffee culture” we’ve created. Black coffee is a simple, calorie-free, sugar-free powerhouse. But as soon as you start adding sugary syrups, whipped cream, artificial sweeteners, and hydrogenated oils, you’re not drinking coffee anymore. You’re drinking a dessert, a diabetic time bomb. Consider Starbucks’ White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, for example. This monstrosity clocks in at over 50 grams of sugar, more than double the daily recommended intake for an average adult. Add to that the ultra-processed creamers that flood supermarket shelves, filled with artificial flavors, emulsifiers, and hydrogenated oils — and you’ve turned what was once a healthy, restorative beverage into a metabolic nightmare. In short, it’s time for a back-to-basics approach. That’s because coffee is more than a drink. When consumed properly, it is a ritual, a revered tradition, a cultural cornerstone with deep meaning. It has served as a spiritual tool for centuries. Ethiopian monks once used it to stay awake during prayer, a profound form of devotion. Ottoman scholars brewed it as part of elaborate rituals that celebrated the pursuit of knowledge. In the West, coffeehouses have long been sanctuaries of thought. These places sparked revolutions and philosophical debates. They allowed literary movements to flourish. Two icons of existential thought, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, frequented Parisian cafés. Their vibrant, somewhat controversial discussions on freedom, existence, and society helped shape 20th-century philosophy. For Sartre, the café was a space where ideas were born and the human condition could be dissected in its rawest form. In many ways, coffee was an essential part of the ritual of intellectual exploration. Yes, I know, Sartre was a devoted Marxist. But even a broken clock is right twice a day — his insights on bad faith and the danger of self-deception still hold weight. And while de Beauvoir was indeed a raving feminist, she was also sharp enough to recognize that freedom wasn’t always a privilege; in some instances, it was a burden. True autonomy can be a struggle. It demands constant vigilance against falling into passivity and succumbing to sin. Also, don’t blame the coffee for their poor decisions. In more recent times, the philosopher Martin Heidegger viewed the act of drinking as something deeply tied to being itself, a practice that connects us to both the present and the transcendent. For Heidegger, the daily ritual of enjoying a simple drink like coffee became a means of “being” in the world, an act that connected individuals to their environment. And yet, modern consumer culture has bastardized this ritual. The simplicity and meditative quality of coffee has been overtaken by corporate-driven concoctions, robbing the drink of its meaningful context. I’ll finish by saying this: Rest easy if you’re drinking black coffee. You’re not only indulging in one of the most health-promoting beverages available but also honoring an ancient, meaningful tradition. The key, as always, is moderation and simplicity. It’s the bucketloads of sugar, syrups, and chemical-laden creamers that pose the real threat to your health. BREAKING: D.C. Circuit BLOCKS Hegseth From Enforcing Executive Order On Transgender Troops

The D.C. Circuit just ruled to block President Trump’s executive order to ban so-called ‘transgender’ individuals from serving in the U.S. military. Specifically, the ruling orders Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth not to take any action against men pretending to be women (or vice versa) in the military. Take a look at breaking news for yourself: #BREAKING: The DC circuit just BLOCKED the Trump administration from taking action against transgender members of the military, pending appeal In other words, a bunch of activist judges just appointed themselves Commander-in-Chief and Secretary of Defense IMPEACH & REMOVE! pic.twitter.com/N5VvwvlcxW — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) March 27, 2025 Just in: The D.C. The Department of Justice had issued an appeal to the D.C. Circuit in that case. Advocate has more background: The U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday appealed a federal district court judge’s ruling that blocks enforcement of the Trump administration’s ban on transgender military service. The appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit comes one day after U.S. District Judge Ana C. Reyes denied the administration’s emergency request to dissolve a preliminary injunction she issued on March 18 in Talbott v. Trump, a lawsuit brought by 32 trans plaintiffs challenging the ban. In her Wednesday opinion, Reyes wrote that the federal government “cannot evade discriminating against transgender people simply by labeling the policy as addressing gender dysphoria.” She also denied the government’s request to stay the injunction pending appeal. Reyes’ order blocking the ban is scheduled to take effect at 7 p.m. Eastern on Friday. The ruling halts the implementation of the policy laid out in PresidentDonald Trump’s Executive Order 14183 and the accompanying “Hegseth Policy,” which attorneys for transgender service members suing the government say would result in involuntary separation of active-duty transgender military members and deny entry to transgender recruits. “The government respectfully requests a stay pending appeal and an immediate administrative stay by March 28 at 7:00 P.M., when the district court stay expires,” DOJ lawyerswrote to the D.C. Circuit Court. “Absent this relief, the military will be forced to continue implementing a policy that the Department has determined is not compatible with military readiness and lethality.” The DOJ claimed Reyes “substituted [her] judgment for that of the military.” These rogue, activist judges are getting out of hand. The ruling may be set to go into effect on Friday, but you can bet the fight is far from over… Impeach the activist judges now! pic.twitter.com/rDv3EHLwLA — Carlos America (@CarlosBtnoCigar) March 27, 2025

Sign On the Scratched Line: DocuSign’s Millionaire Lead Engineer’s Wife KEYS Tesla

A viral video shows 55-year-old fitness coach Kamelia Enzler keying a Tesla during a parking lot meltdown in Washington. She stormed out of her 4Runner, scratched the Model Y, then casually got back in her car. The moment is captured on video and it appears she’s having an argument with the Tesla driver. Enzler’s facing malicious mischief charges, but cops say it wasn’t political, just pure road rage. The kicker? She’s married to DocuSign’s Lead Software Engineer. So, being a millionaire, she can pay for the fines and repair. Millionairess filmed keying Tesla is identified…but cops have a surprising theory https://t.co/mK1buwOAIi — Daily Mail Online (@MailOnline) March 26, 2025 Daily Mail reports: A millionaire fitness coach has been identified as the woman who keyed a Tesla during a parking lot confrontation. Kamelia Enzler, 55, is facing charges of Malicious Mischief in the Third Degree after she was filmed vandalizing another driver’s Tesla Model Y on March 20 at the Issaquah Commons shopping center, according to police. Viral footage of the incident shared by reporter Jonathan Choe shows the woman, dressed in a grey sweater, angrily exiting her Toyota 4Runner and yelling a few words. She then walked up to the Tesla, keyed it, and calmly got back inside her own car. The keying came amid a spate of recent attacks on Teslas over owner Elon Musk’s work with the Trump administration. But investigators say they don’t believe Enzler’s alleged behavior to be politically-motivated and have instead described it as an act of road rage. According to Choe, the Tesla driver was backing out of the parking lot with a child in the back seat. They claim that is when Enzler flipped them off for no reason before marching out of her car. No further details on what may have triggered the road rage were shared. Enzler is married to Jeff Enzler, the lead software engineer at DocuSign, where he has worked for 12 years. The couple lives in a $1.5million home in Bellevue, a stunning suburb of Seattle famed for its greenery and lakes. They bought the property for $280,000 in 1998, according to public records and have since made a fortune on the home. Enzler has deleted her Linked In and social media accounts, but, according to public records, she owns a fitness company called IPEAK FITNESS. NEW: Issaquah, WA cops say a 55 year old woman is facing charges for Malicious Mischief in the Third Degree for her role in the Tesla keying incident that has now gone viral. After multiple leads, I can confidently say the suspect is Kamelia Enzler. pic.twitter.com/NMo5QmzJUw https://t.co/CWQ1fw1N4u — Jonathan Choe (@choeshow) March 26, 2025   Here’s another one caught on camera. And CORRECTION, that is NOT a White woman. She’s clearly Asian. How can people not tell the difference? Another white liberal woman caught on camera keying a Tesla. pic.twitter.com/56hLFzyItv — Derrick Evans (@DerrickEvans4WV) March 25, 2025 I suspect that most Tesla’s getting keyed are actually owned by liberals, since they were their main customers for years. Makes me laugh to think of liberals keying liberal’s cars. And on camera. Not too bright. This guy drove up next to a Tesla just to key it and drove away in California.
