Trump White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller delivered a stern warning to illegal immigrants, threatening potential aliens with “prosecution and expulsion” under the new Trump administration. “All illegal aliens seeking entry into the United States should turn back now. Anyone entering the United States without authorization faces prosecution and expulsion,” Miller wrote Monday on X. Regarding Miller’s tweet, The New York Times reported, “The term ‘expulsion’ refers to the rapid removal of migrants at the border through a public health authority, known as Title 42.” Title 42 was used during the COVID pandemic from March 2020 until May 2023 in order to deny migrants the right to seek asylum, with U.S. officials turning away roughly 2.8 million asylum seekers under the emergency health mandate. Miller reportedly met with top GOP officials on Capitol Hill on Sunday, laying out Trump’s sweeping array of executive orders, with five of the ten focusing on illegal immigration. According to Punchbowl News, “Trump will classify drug cartels as ‘foreign terrorist organizations,’ a dramatic move he never took in his first term; declare an emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, which will allow Trump to deploy military forces to the border; stiffen interior enforcement; move toward reinstatement of the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy; end ‘catch and release’; and generally restrict entry into the United States.” Miller reiterated these points at Trump’s pre-inauguration rally at Capital One Arena on Sunday afternoon, with more details on these executive orders expected to be released to the public within the week. “He has always been fighting for all of us. Two far-left State Department officials profiled by The Daily Wire appear to have departed the executive agencies in the wake of Trump’s inauguration, with each of their profiles scrubbed from the government website. The State Department Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice Desiree Cormier Smith and Jessica Stern, the Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Persons, appear to have left the executive agency tasked with managing the United States’ diplomacy operations. The Daily Wire reported in November that the Trump administration could fire both officials in his attempt to purge the far-left diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda from the federal government. Now neither Cormier Smith’s profile nor Stern’s profile are active on the State Department website. The State Department did not respond to a request for comment. Stern has marched alongside transgender Brazilians and celebrated at the sight of children at LGBT pride events. The administration may also end race-based bureaucrat affinity groups, cancel pride month celebrations, abolish identity-based recruitment and hiring programs, and review grantmaking.

Embattled FEMA Director Deanne Criswell left the agency on Monday just as the second administration of President Donald Trump began.  Criswell, who has faced criticism over her handling of the agency’s response to recent hurricanes, left her position as administrator at 12:01 p.m. and was replaced by Tony Robinson, who will be the acting FEMA director until Trump chooses a replacement. During her time in office, Criswell oversaw the government’s response to multiple devastating hurricanes, the Maui fires, and most recently, the deadly Los Angeles County fires.  “It has been an honor serving as [FEMA] Administrator for nearly four years. The FEMA family takes immense pride in our mission of helping people before, during and after disasters. She maintained that the guidance was an isolated incident. “I do not believe that this employee’s actions are indicative of any widespread cultural problems at FEMA,” she said at the time. “FEMA however has taken appropriate action to ensure this matter is fully investigated and I am committed to ensuring that nothing like this ever happens again.”  There are still multiple investigations ongoing, including from the inspector general, into the guidance and the state of Florida has sued FEMA over the instructions  Trump has been a critic of FEMA’s response to both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, stating during his inaugural address that the agency had treated North Carolina poorly.  Last week, North Carolina’s Republican senators had to intervene after they said that dozens of hurricane victims were kicked out of the hotels they were staying in on Tuesday as their FEMA-sponsored vouchers expired. One whistleblower told Republicans on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure that FEMA had skipped entire neighborhoods in North Carolina if there were three or more Trump or other conservative signs in yards.
