Jenny Marr went in for an ultrasound and thought there was no heartbeat‚ but soon found out she was pregnant with spontaneous identical quadruplets. Yep‚ four babies! Jenny and her husband Chris are from Grapevine‚ TX‚ and met in a local pub. They had been trying to have a baby for several months before they got pregnant in 2019. And that is when they found out that they were not just having three babies but four. Jenny and Chris are only children and dont know of any multiples in their family‚ so having spontaneous identical quadruplets is incredibly rare. According to Dr. Murry and her colleagues‚ identical spontaneous quadruplet births occur in 1 in 11 million or 1 in 15 million births. Dr. Murry went on to say‚ Its unbelievable! Itll never happen again in my career.Babies Born During COVIDAll four babies shared the same placenta‚ which made the pregnancy more complicated. And as most expectant parents would be‚ Jenny and Chris were a bit worried. The risk was that one of the babies can develop stronger and basically take away from the other babies‚ Chris explained. The doctor also told them that the babies could need surgery.Labor began at 28.5 weeks‚ right at the start of COVID-19. Hospitals were changing their policies‚ and things werent exactly normal. Jenny was worried about how all of that would affect her labor and birth. For the first time (during my pregnancy)‚ I anticipated the worst‚ she said. First came Harrisson at 2lbs 6oz‚ then Hardy at 2lbs 10oz‚ Henry was third at 2lbs 6.7oz‚ and Hudson‚ rounding up the four babies‚ was 1lb 15oz. All four were born in just three minutes. We called them our baby birds‚ Jenny said. Because they really looked like baby birds. The boys needed to stay in the NICU for about ten weeks‚ and three of them did need oxygen. With four identical babies‚ you might be wondering how the parents will be able to tell them apart. They each have little bitty characteristics‚ Chris explained. A Prayer for Positivity from Morning to NightBy Laura Bailey";I am not saying this because I am in need‚ for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."; Philippians 4:11 NIVOne of my favorite quotations is from Henry Ford‚ who famously said‚ If you think you can or if you think you cant‚ either way‚ youre right."; I remember the first time I saw these words‚ waiting outside my high school guidance counselor';s office. A poster with this quotation hung on the wall next to a picture of a cat gripping a ledge with the words‚ ";hang in there‚"; in bold print at the top. At the time‚ the two posters seemed oddly placed beside each other. Henry Ford believed that how we think about ourselves and our abilities significantly impacts outcomes. He was a man who firmly stood by the belief that success starts with a positive attitude. And by earthly measure‚ Ford was quite successful. So‚ I agree with his assumption about the power of positivity.Twenty years have passed since high school‚ and with more life experience‚ I see why the counselor placed those pictures together. While a cheerful disposition is always an asset‚ it is especially needed when facing challenges or difficulties. It is easy to be happy to look for the good when things are going well. However‚ persevering‚ remaining faithful‚ and enthusiastic under challenging circumstances are much more difficult.Paul‚ the writer of Philippians‚ knew a thing or two about being in less-than-favorable situations. At the time of his writing to the church of Philippi‚ Paul was in a Roman prison‚ uncertain of his fate. Yet‚ in the middle of immense persecution and trials‚ he could find godly contentment. Contentment isn';t dependent on our circumstances; as the dictionary defines it‚ it is a continual state of happiness or satisfaction‚ a mindset. We often think people are naturally born as ";positive Pollys"; or ";negative Nancys‚"; while we tend to lean one way or the other; contentment takes practice; it is a learned behavior. Every one of us has a choice in how we will react to the hard things we face. We receive a less-than-comforting diagnosis. We come home to find that our spouse lost their job. We get a call that our child got in trouble at school and is being sent home. We hear that our friend said some unkind words about us.Yes‚ there are so many painful things that we will experience in this life. Finding contentment and focusing on the positive doesn';t erase the realities of our pain‚ hurt‚ and suffering. But when we choose to set our hopes on the Lord‚ to focus on His promises of deliverance and eternal hope through Christ Jesus‚ we can experience true contentment in all circumstances when life is easy and hard.Let';s pray:Heavenly Father‚ thank you for how you bring blessings to Your Children. We often neglect to acknowledge all the ways you provide for us‚ coming to you only when we have a need or desire to relieve our present suffering. But‚ Father‚ we know that You are the author of creation and that all that we have comes from You. Help us to start each day with thanksgiving and praise‚ humbling surrendering our times‚ talents‚ and lives to do Your will.God‚ many people are experiencing deep suffering‚ who are in the depths of despair‚ overcome with grief‚ or just feel hopeless. We ask that the Holy Spirit brings them comfort‚ that they feel Your presence. Lord‚ help us be sensitive to those in need and obediently answer the call to help others when we feel the Spirit leading us to action. Sadly‚ most of us dont think thats true. The problem is we tend to measure long-term success while downplaying the absolute victory found in small successes.Honestly‚ I need to remind myself of this. For instance‚ I';ve been trying to be more active lately by setting a goal of walking 10‚000 steps a day. In some moments‚ I just don';t feel like fitting an extra walk into my busy schedule‚ and I can start to convince myself it doesn';t really matter. But the truth is that each step is a victorious small success as I focus on moving my body.Now‚ I';m not saying I';ll be ready to run a marathon this year‚ but by building upon the small successes of simply showing up for myself - choice by choice‚ day by day - I';ve seen positive change in my physical‚ emotional and mental health.This principle applies to other struggles as well.If I choose not to be snappy with my kids and instead respond with tenderness‚ thats a victorious small success.If I choose to pause before responding to a rude sales clerk and give her a smile instead of being harsh‚ thats a victorious small success.If I choose to give my friend the benefit of the doubt rather than jumping to the conclusion that she meant to hurt my feelings‚ thats a victorious small success.I like the way our key verses talk about this:";Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness‚ knowledge; and to knowledge‚ self-control; and to self-control‚ perseverance ...";(2 Peter 1:5-6).Here‚ Scripture reminds us to ";make every effort to add"; some things to our faith. Think of this like a muscle. We have muscles as a part of our bodies‚ but we must add activity to those muscles to use them effectively and gain strength. In most cases‚ our muscles will work for us as we exercise them. Goodness‚ knowledge‚ self-control and perseverance will also work for us as we practice them over and over again.I don';t know what victory looks like for you. Maybe it';s a thought pattern you';d like to stop ruminating on. Or a habit you';d like to build to memorize more Scripture. It could be achieving goals you have for your family or making changes you';d like to see in yourself. Whatever it is‚ I challenge you to name what victory is for you.Here';s what I know: Sometimes victory seems so far away because we measure it only by our end goal. And end goals can seem overwhelmingly huge‚ daunting‚ and just plain hard to reach. Instead‚ if we start measuring victory by the smaller choices we make each day‚ it won';t seem so impossible.Before you do 10 pushups‚ you have to do one.Before you memorize a whole chapter of Scripture‚ you have to know the first verse.Before you start living a more peace-filled life‚ you can stop that one anxious thought from ruining your day.Before you have a better relationship with that person‚ you can have one better reaction.You see‚ change is possible. It just doesn';t happen overnight.Big things are built one brick at a time.Victories are achieved one choice at a time.A life well lived is chosen one day at a time.Dear Lord‚ I know that with You‚ victory is indeed possible.
