Wait, Can Donald Trump Drone His Political Enemies Now?

On Monday, all hell broke loose. It didn’t break loose because of a Supreme Court decision. It broke loose because the Left has decided, along with the media and the Democrats, to lie about the Supreme Court decision in order to revive the flagging hopes and dead body of Joe Biden. We’ll get to why the Democrats are doing this at the end of this column. Let’s start at the beginning. On Monday, the Supreme Court released a decision about presidential immunity. This decision was rooted in Donald Trump filing a lawsuit to stop the various Jack Smith lawsuits against him. His claim was that as President of the United States, no matter what he did while he was President of the United States, he had full immunity from criminal prosecution. That is not true. That is a step too far. The idea that the president of the United States is never to be criminally prosecuted for any activity is incorrect. If the president of the United States decided to murder a housekeeper in his home in the White House, for example, could he be criminally prosecuted? The answer, of course, is yes. However, there is the idea that the president is, in fact, criminally immune from certain activities that a normal person would not be. For example, if I authorized somebody to go kill somebody abroad, I’d be criminally liable for that. If I’m president of the United States and as commander in chief, I authorize SEAL Team 6 to take out Osama bin Laden, I’m not going to be criminally liable for that. Thus, there are numerous actions the president of the United States has to be able to perform in order to ensure the functioning of the executive authority of the United States. The president does have outsized powers under our Constitution, but those powers are not endless. Immunity is not eternal and endless; that is not the way that immunity works. And that’s essentially what the Supreme Court found. WATCH: The Ben Shapiro Show In order to understand why the Left and President Biden are lying about this decision and why political games are now being played, understanding the decision itself from the Supreme Court is necessary.  Jack Smith has been pursuing a couple charges that are basically dead on arrival. There are also several charges that are not dead on arrival and that will likely be upheld when this case is reverted back to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals because that’s effectively what the Supreme Court did. Vis-à-vis a couple of charges, they said the president has immunity for this sort of activity. Then they said they were not going to rule whether the president has immunity on the sort of activity about many of the other charges. Instead, they would send it back to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to determine whether the president has immunity.  Judge Tanya Chutkan is the judge in that particular case. Presumably, she’s going to rule that President Trump does not have immunity on those particular charges. In essence, this decision by the Court was an in-between decision, which one could figure out as Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the decision. Roberts is a fairly moderate justice. He is not Justice Samuel Alito; he is not Justice Clarence Thomas. He’s not one of the more Right-wing members of the federal judiciary. (It was Roberts who saved Obamacare back in the day.) Justice Roberts has a view of the court that it should be minimalist in how it approaches decisions; it should draw decisions as narrowly as possible. In this particular case, he seemed to think, “Ok, we’re going to try to create some sort of system, some sort of framework, for thinking about when the president is immune from criminal liability and when he is not. But we are going to restrict our judgment to very specific aspects of the charges being brought against Trump. We’re going to say that in a couple of these charges he has absolute immunity, and the rest of this we will push back to the courts.” That does not sound as if former President Trump or any other president has endless immunity. What does the decision say? The Supreme Court starts its decision by defining the crimes for which Trump is being charged, and they essentially break them down into five categories.  He tried to get state electors to change their votes.  He organized fraudulent state electors.  He tried to use the DOJ to conduct what Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has called sham investigations, meaning investigations into electoral fraud that were really poorly based and resulted in nothing.  He tried to persuade Mike Pence to alter the results.  He tried to convince members of Congress to delay certification.  All those things, in my opinion, would be morally wrong — but that does not mean that they are legally criminal. That’s particularly true if you’re president of the United States because, as the Court pointed out, the president is the head of the DOJ. There are only three branches of government; the DOJ is not an independent branch of government. The Department of Justice works for the President of the United States. If the president orders the DOJ to go forth with an investigation, it becomes the job of the DOJ to go ahead and investigate because the decision falls within the president’s purview of authority.  The Supreme Court wrote: The parties before us do not dispute that a former President can be subject to criminal prosecution for unofficial acts committed while in office. They also agree that some of the conduct described in the indictment includes actions taken by Trump in his unofficial capacity. They disagree, however, about whether a former President can be prosecuted for his official actions. Trump contends that just as a President is absolutely immune from civil damages liability for acts within the outer perimeter of his official responsibilities, he must be absolutely immune from criminal prosecution for such acts. And Trump argues that the bulk of the indictment’s allegations involve conduct in his official capacity as President. Although the Government agrees that some official actions are included in the indictment’s allegations, it maintains that a former President does not enjoy immunity from criminal prosecution for any actions, regardless of how they are characterized. We conclude that under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of Presidential power requires that a former President have some immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts during his tenure in office. At least with respect to the President’s exercise of his core constitutional powers, this immunity must be absolute. As for his remaining official actions, he is also entitled to immunity. At the current stage of proceedings in this case, however, we need not and do not decide whether that immunity must be absolute, or instead whether a presumptive immunity is sufficient. So why does a president need immunity at all? The answer is that the executive has to be able to function in the constitutional order. So as the Supreme Court wrote: A President inclined to take one course of action based on the public interest may instead opt for another, apprehensive that criminal penalties may befall him upon his departure from office. And if a former President’s official acts are routinely subjected to scrutiny in criminal prosecutions, “the independence of the Executive Branch” may be significantly undermined. The Framers’ design of the Presidency did not envision such counterproductive burdens on the “vigor” and “energy” of the Executive. They also wrote: We must, however, “recognize the countervailing interests at stake.” Federal criminal laws seek to redress “a wrong to the public” as a whole, not just “a wrong to the individual.” There is therefore a compelling “public interest in fair and effective law enforcement.” The President, charged with enforcing federal criminal laws, is not above them. In other words, the president is not above the law, but there are core constitutional functions where the president is immune. For example, criminal prosecution could not be brought against Barack Obama for droning Anwar al-Awlaki despite the fact that Awlaki was an American citizen overseas who was a terrorist.  For all the Democrats who are freaking out today (among them Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who hysterically wrote in her dissent, “The President of the United States is the most powerful person in the country, and possibly the world. When he uses his official powers in any way, under the majority’s reasoning, he now will be insulated from criminal prosecution. Orders the Navy’s Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Organizes a military coup to hold onto power? Immune. Takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immune, immune, immune.”), I might point out that if Donald Trump had that authority, the current president is Joe Biden. So he could do that to Trump today. But Biden isn’t doing that because he doesn’t believe this malarkey. No one believes the claims the Left are making about this particular case. So why are the Democrats doing this? Because Joe Biden is a failed candidate. That’s all. Trump is still going to be prosecuted on a number of these charges, but that doesn’t matter. They have to proclaim that the end of the Republic is nigh. If Biden were leading in the polls, up by a significant number, nobody would care because this is a very rote, noncontroversial decision. The Democrats have to pretend that there was an inflection point on Monday. They have to, because if there was no inflection point, Biden will lose the election. They have to pretend because Biden physically died during a debate. And if Joe Biden died physically during a debate, they can’t claim that Donald Trump is such a threat to the Republic that Biden has to be elected.

Silver Persians have been delighting pet lovers for over a century, giving enthusiastic owners one of the most attractive felines and breeding experts an undeniably captivating variety to draw more interest to the breed. From their sparkling coats to their adoring personalities, Silver Persians are magnificent inside and out. Let’s look at the traits and lifestyle of the Silver Persian cat and discover why many breed experts enthusiastically agree that these are the “Cadillac of cats.” Breed Overview Height:8–10 inches Weight:7–12 pounds Lifespan:11–15 years Colors:Chinchilla silver, shaded silver, blue Chinchilla silver, blue shaded silver Suitable for:Families with children, laid-back owners that like to relax with their cats, owners that don’t mind the grooming demands Temperament:Playful, loving, relaxed, quiet, intelligent, friendly The Silver Persian cat is a color variety of the Persian breed. The long-haired cat takes on a shimmering silver appearance, which many regard as the most dazzling and regal of all Persian coats. There are two varieties, Chinchilla Silvers and Shaded Silvers, which share similar origins and general traits. Silver Persians achieve their classic elegance through stunning points of contrast. The round eyes stand out in remarkable shades of green and blue-green, while a brick-red nose sits below. Black outlines emphasize these and the lips, making the already mesmerizing eyes stand out even further and sharply defining every subtle change in facial expression. Silver Persian Breed Characteristics The Earliest Records of Silver Persians in History While the Persian breed dates to the 1600s, silver-coated cats didn’t garner significant recognition until the 1800s. The Chinchilla Silver Persian cats began with Chinnie, a female born in England in 1882. Chinnie’s unique coloration captured her owner’s interest, and she soon mated with another Silver with tabby markings named Fluffy I. Sadly, Fluffy I and many of Chinnie’s offspring met untimely ends due to various accidents, leaving only her first female, Beauty. Beauty would go on to have several litters. In 1890, her second mating produced Silver Lambkin, a legendary champion and the first of the Chinchilla Silvers. Silver Lambkin sired numerous cats that would significantly impact the breed’s development, and many modern silver cats can trace their lineages to him and his relatives. Image Credit: Linn Currie, Shutterstock How Silver Persian Cats Gained Popularity Silver Lambkin and his offspring, notably Lord Argent and Champion Lord Southampton, were highly influential, appearing in the pedigrees of many modern Silvers. At this time, crossings with blues, Silver Tabbies, and other varieties found their way into the silver lines. Spreading Silver Lambkin’s influence, much of Lord Southampton’s offspring moved across the ocean to develop silver lines in the U.S. by the turn of the century. Lord Argent also came to America in 1901 with his owner and founder of the Silver Society, Mrs. Florence Champion, to establish the Argent line. The Silver Persian’s popularity quickly took off, so much so that Silver Lambkin’s death in 1906 was significant news on both sides of the pond. Formal Recognition of Silver Persian Cats Following Chinnie’s birth in 1882, interest in Silver Persians grew, and the offshoot received its first standalone class at the Crystal Palace Show in 1894. Although detailed records are sparse, many believe Silvers earned recognition upon the Cat Fanciers’ Association’s founding in 1906. Over the years, confusion and lack of agreement over definitions have caused Silvers to move in and out of classes of various color-type combinations. Silver Tabby, Smoke, Cameo, Tortoiseshell, and other Persians mingled in shared divisions as judges struggled to consistently and logically define the differences. Smokes and Cameos were in the Shaded Division with Silvers until 1965 when Smokes got their separate division. In 1977, Golden Persian cats (a recessive variation of silver that produces golden tipping) gained CFA recognition and joined the Shaded Division. Silver Persian Cats Are Tricky to Identify Though Silver Persian cats lie on a spectrum of silver coloring, they fall into one of two color-types: Chinchilla Silver: Chinchillas have a white undercoat and a topcoat featuring subtle black tipping on the back, flanks, head, and tail for a light silver-white appearance Shaded Silver: Guard hairs have more shading on the tips, clearly separating shaded sections from white areas on the ruff, face, and inside the body and making the cat much darker than the Chinchilla The distinction between the different colors and classifications has been up for debate since the earliest Silver Persians. Many people, including judges, can’t decide where a Chinchilla ends and a Shaded begins. The confusion continues today, as some Silver Persians earn a “neither/nor” designation, meaning they don’t clearly fit either mold. Though they’re difficult to interpret, purists say cats should be distinguishable as a Chinchilla or Shaded from a distance. 2. Silver Persians Look Much Different as Kittens A newborn Silver Persian kitten can catch a first-time owner off-guard. While most people know the eyes take a few weeks to take on their natural color, the coat pattern can leave many scratching their heads. The darker coat and markings are the first features you might notice with a Silver Persian kitten. If your cat is a Chinchilla Silver, they’re often born with a Mackerel Tabby pattern featuring slender stripes and spots. Shaded Silvers usually have the blotchy pattern of a Classic Tabby. Though the patterns are well-defined on kittens, the coat lightens, and the markings disappear after around 10 weeks as the hair grows out. Persians have some of the most pleasant personalities of any breed, and the silver-coated variety is no exception. Though sometimes aloof with strangers, they’re easy to get along with and rarely get too loud or temperamental. Silvers have a reputation for being more intelligent and active than other Persians, but they’re still more relaxed than the average cat. In most cases, they’re happiest lounging with their favorite person. Many owners even consider them similar to little dogs with their tendency to shadow their owners. Grooming is usually the most demanding part of owning a Silver. A Persian is a high-maintenance shedder requiring daily grooming. Getting them comfortable with the routine at a young age is crucial. Despite the added challenges, tending to a Chinchilla Persian is also extra-rewarding, as the groomed-out coat creates a gorgeous cloud of delicate silver-tipped hair. Conclusion Regal, exquisite, ethereal. You can pick any of the most common descriptors, and they all point to the Silver Persian being almost too good to be true. For over a century, Chinchilla and Shaded Silvers have brought their unique appeal to the cat fancy, garnering much debate over the years and plenty of appreciation from avid fans worldwide. Bob Good Narrowly Loses Va. Primary Bid to Trump-Backed Challenger, Will Seek Recount

Rep. Bob Good has lost his GOP primary bid in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District against state Sen. John McGuire, a fellow Republican who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, two weeks after the polls closed on June 18, The Associated Press reported. The Virginia Board of Elections certified the election results on Tuesday, with McGuire winning by roughly 375 votes, 0.6% margin, according to the AP. Good said he would ask for a recount. “In a race with nearly 63,000 votes that is separated by a 0.6% margin, Republican voters across the 5th District deserve to know that all legal votes have been accurately counted,” Good’s campaign said in a statement. “We will vigorously pursue that objective over the coming days and weeks, as permitted by Virginia law.” Trump endorsed McGuire, a former Navy SEAL, in May after Good, who chairs the House Freedom Caucus, supported Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida during the presidential primary. Good subsequently endorsed Trump in January after DeSantis dropped out of the race. “My life is a testament to the fact that America is the greatest country on this planet, and I’m so honored to have the chance to serve her again,” McGuire wrote in a post on X on June 19. “Thank you to my family, thank you to everyone who helped out on this campaign, thank you to the people who endorsed and supported me, and thank you to Donald J. Trump for believing in me. There are still a few votes left to count, but it’s clear that all paths end with a victory.” “The entire DC Swamp was aligned against us with over $10 million in attack ads, but with your help we were able to make this race too close to call.” Good wrote in a post on the night of the election. “No matter the outcome, you’ve shown the DC Swamp that you won’t back down from standing for what’s right. Keep the faith and don’t stop fighting now.” Good suggested there were attempts to interfere with the voting process after the election was deemed too close to call. Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., also backed McGuire, Politico reported. Good was one of eight Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy as speaker in October 2023. Other Republican members came to support the state senator, including Reps. Mike Collins of Georgia, William Timmons of South Carolina, and Warren Davidson of Ohio. Davidson serves as the whip for the House Freedom Caucus, and Timmons previously survived a Good-backed primary challenger. Good did retain some endorsements among key GOP representatives. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida endorsed Good, calling him a “conservative fighter.” Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida also endorsed Good, saying that “there are few people who actually live by conservative principles every single day, and Bob Good is that person.” Republican Reps.
