SCOTUS Win for Companies Suing the Federal Government

The following is the Corner Post Supreme Court ruling. Companies affected by federal agency rules can count the statute of limitations [six years] from the time they are affected by it, not from the time it was issued. TL;DR: Companies that weren’t established at the time an agency rule was announced can still challenge them, […] The post SCOTUS Win for Companies Suing the Federal Government appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Villain In New Highly Criticized ‘Star Wars’ Series Seemingly Quotes Jordan Peterson

The new Disney+ “Star Wars” series, “The Acolyte,” appeared to quote DailyWire+ host Dr. Jordan B. Peterson in a line from one of the show’s villains in a recent episode.  Screenwriters and a comic book author have seemingly used Peterson as a template for villains in the past, including in Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling” and in a “Captain America” comic. After episode 5 of “The Acolyte” dropped last week, using Peterson as the inspiration behind a story’s bad guy appears to be a trend.  The latest example of a villain appearing to quote Peterson was first reported by Looper last week. In the episode, Qimir — played by Manny Jacinto — quotes something said by Peterson in a 2022 interview nearly word-for-word.  “Even in the revelation of our triumph, we see the depth of our despair,” Qimir says at the end of the episode.  On January 3, 2022, Peterson appeared on entrepreneur Steven Bartlett’s podcast “The Diary of a CEO,” and said, “Wherever I go in the world people come up to me and they often have a pretty rough story to relate. It’s an awful thing because you see, even in the revelation of their triumph, the initial depth of their despair.” “First Red Skull, then Olivia Wilde’s movie villain, now a Dark Side villain. I can’t,” Peterson’s daughter, Mikhaila, tweeted on Sunday.  “Also Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage also took some ideas from dad. Too good,” she added.  “The Acolyte” was roundly mocked just a few episodes into its first season, and after its showrunner laughed about people calling it “the gayest Star Wars.”  In one episode, a character makes an effort to use “they/them” pronouns when referring to someone. The series sits at a 14% Rotten Tomatoes audience score even though critics overall gave it a high rating of 83%. In 2021, Leftist activist Ta-Nehisi Coates created a Nazi villain in his “Captain America” comic who espoused views that echoed the titles of some of Peterson’s works. A year later, Wilde, the director of “Don’t Worry Darling,” revealed that the film’s villain is based on Peterson, referring to the renowned psychologist as an “insane man” who is a “pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community.”  “People have been after me for a long time because I’ve been speaking to disaffected young men — what a terrible thing to do, that is,” he said in response to Wilde’s comments, adding, “I thought the marginalized were supposed to have a voice.” RELATED: ‘The Acolyte’ Showrunner Says She’s ‘So Into’ Series Being Called The ‘Gayest Star Wars,’ Calls R2-D2 A ‘Lesbian’

Former Trump Aide Steve Bannon Begins Federal Prison Sentence

Former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon reported to federal prison on Monday after the Supreme Court declined to postpone his sentence while he appeals his conviction on contempt of Congress charges.  Bannon, 70, was sentenced to four months in prison after he was convicted for not complying with a subpoena from the Democrat-run January 6 committee in 2022 instructing him to testify and produce certain documents for the committee. After a lengthy appeals process, a federal judge ordered Bannon to report to prison on July 1.  Before turning himself in at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, Bannon spoke to supporters, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). “I am proud to go to prison,” he said. “If this is what it takes to stand up to tyranny; if this is what it takes to stand up to the [Attorney General Merrick] Garland corrupt criminal DOJ; if this is what it takes to stand up to Nancy Pelosi; if this is what it takes to stand up to Joe Biden — I’m proud to do it.” On Friday, the Supreme Court chose not to postpone the prison sentence after Bannon requested it do so.  Bannon previously said that the prosecution was politicized and was a way to go after former President Donald Trump.  “This is about shutting down the MAGA movement, shutting down grassroots conservatives, shutting down President Trump,” he said after a judge ordered him to prison. “Not only are we winning, we are going to prevail and every number and every poll shows that.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Another Trump aide, Peter Navarro, is also in prison after being convicted of contempt of Congress charges. Navarro was charged because he, too, refused to meet with the January 6 Committee. He entered federal prison on March 19 and is serving a four-month sentence.  Last week, top House Republicans announced a plan to file a brief with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in support of Bannon’s efforts to have his conviction overturned.  The brief would “withdraw certain arguments made by the House earlier in the litigation about the organization of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol during the prior Congress” when Democrats led the House.

‘Partner For Life’: Candace Cameron Bure Celebrates 28 Years Of Marriage

Candace Cameron Bure reflected on almost three decades of marriage to her husband, retired professional hockey player Valeri Bure. The 48-year-old actress told Fox News Digital she’s “more committed” now to her husband than she was the day she married him.  “The love has grown over the years. When you really do go through the depths of the valley, and you come back out on top as many times as you go through that roller coaster of life – within marriage, every time you come back on top it’s like another notch in the belt of commitment, staying together,” Bure told the outlet.  “We’ve been together for 30 years, and that’s a pretty big milestone,” she added. “I truly love him more today and am more committed to him today than I was when we first got married. He’s my partner for life.” The “Full House” star also posted about her 28th wedding anniversary with a lovingly worded post on Instagram. “28 years today! How it started … and how it’s going,” Bure shared with her 5.7 million followers. She also posted some recent images and throwback photos in the post. The couple shares three children: daughter Natasha, 25, and sons Lev, 24, and Maksim, 22.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Candace Cameron Bure (@candacecbure) “Marriage is so wonderful. And yet there are so many ups and downs over the years,” she told Fox News, explaining how her faith has been key to her successful marriage.  “I’ve said it before, but the secret has not just been the commitment to God and the blueprint that God provides us biblically within a marriage, but it’s honoring one another. And in that, even when I may not, he may not deserve it, we honor each other, because it’s honoring God. “ Bure added, “And I think that’s where the focus is for us. That we honor God in all our actions first and foremost, but that is an outpouring of the love that we share together whether we really feel like it or not at the moment.”

Illegal Immigrant Who Reentered U.S. After Deportation Charged With Sexual Assault Of 14-Year-Old Girl

An illegal immigrant who was previously deported from the United States allegedly reentered the country and has been charged with sexual battery after he allegedly assaulted a 14-year-old girl in Florida. Jose Chan, a 24-year-old foreign national from Guatemala, was arrested by Florida’s Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. The girl reported the alleged attack to family members, who transported her to a nearby hospital. “A medical examination of the victim showed a positive finding for sexual abuse,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. “Florida Department of Law Enforcement lab results also found evidence of the girl’s DNA on Chan.” Chan is currently in the Okaloosa County Jail, though Customs and Border Patrol has requested to take him into custody. The suspect was previously deported back to his homeland on February 9th, 2024. The alleged attack comes amid a broader wave of violent attacks allegedly committed by illegal immigrants. Police in Texas arrested an illegal alien who allegedly killed two people in a Chick-fil-A restaurant last week. The suspect, Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, is a 37-year-old native of El Salvador. Concerns about illegal immigrant crime escalated earlier this year after Laken Riley, a Georgia nursing student, was allegedly killed by Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old illegal immigrant from Venezuela. Illegal immigrants were also allegedly behind the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray in Houston, Texas. Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, were both charged with her murder. The duo, who allegedly killed Nungaray by strangulation, both unlawfully entered the United States during the Biden administration. There was also a 13-year-old girl, whose name has been kept private, who was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old illegal immigrant named Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi from Ecuador. Inga-Landi was charged with predatory sexual assault, first-degree rape, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, obstructing governmental administration, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child after he allegedly admitted to assaulting the girl to police. The father of the alleged victim condemned President Joe Biden’s border policies in the wake of the attack. It isn’t just isolated incidents of violence that many are worried about, however. Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) recently warned that the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua is gaining power in the United States and is taking advantage of our porous southern border. “This gang in several years is going to be the dominant transnational criminal organization throughout the United States. There’s no doubt in my mind,” Rep. Gonzales explained in an interview with Fox News. “They’re very vicious. They have no rules. They gobble up territory almost like a cancer.” Members of Tren de Aragua may have been involved in the strangling of a retired police officer in Florida and the beating of a New York City police officer and were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. There are also indications that foreign terrorist organizations could be taking advantage of the border crisis. One recent report found that more than 400 illegal immigrants have been brought into the United States by a human trafficking organization affiliated with ISIS under Joe Biden’s presidency. The report comes just weeks after eight Tajikistan nationals with suspected ties to ISIS were arrested in the United States after illegally crossing the border. More than 10 million people have crossed the border under President Biden, with an estimated 1.7 million illegal immigrant gotaways recorded since he assumed office in 2021. There were 415,000 total reported gotaways for 2018, 2019, and 2020 under the Trump administration. There have also been more than one million illegal immigrant encounters recorded on the southern border in just the first six months of fiscal year 2024.
