Hiker Survives 700-Foot Fall From Oregon’s Mount Hood Thanks To “Some Kind of Miracle”

A hiker is lucky to be alive after a terrifying fall from Mount Hood in Oregon. Since turning 50, Chris Zwierzynski, now 55, has made it his goal to climb to the highest point in all 50 states. On July 6 during his ascent in Oregon, he fell a staggering 700 feet. Crews airlifted Chris to an area hospital for treatment. According to a statement from the Clackamas County Sheriff, two off-duty military medics witnessed Chris’s horrific fall and quickly made their way to help him. He slipped on frozen snow and couldn’t stop himself from tumbling down the mountain. Thankfully, the conditions on the mountain were ideal for a rescue on the day of the fall, and crews were able to get Chris off the mountain in a relatively short amount of time. He was en route to the hospital within six hours. “May through early July is a popular time to climb Mt. Hood, and good climbing conditions have lasted longer this year than most. Nevertheless, all routes up the mountain are technical, requiring specialized training and equipment. All routes become progressively more difficult approaching the summit, which can lure inexperienced climbers into situations beyond their skill. Portland Mountain Rescue urges climbers to get proper training from an organization like the Mazamas, or to climb with a qualified guide,” Mark Morford of Portland Mountain Rescue said in a statement. The Mount Hood Hiker’s Injuries Were So Significant It’s a Shock He’s Alive His wife, Laurie Zwierzynski, told KPNX her husband had broken ribs, a brain bleed, a concussion, and his eye sockets were broken. Chris’ eyes were swollen shut, and yet he is still here. “Most of the doctors that I talk to, my friends, my family, everyone’s using the word miracle like I’m some kind of miracle for having survived this fall,” he told the news station. “Maybe I am.”  You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. How Parents Plan to Make Back-to-School ‘Magical’ For Their Kids

Four out of five parents are working to make the back-to-school season “magical” for their elementary school kids, according to a new poll. A survey of 2,000 parents with children aged 12 and under found 86% are trying to bring the “magic” back to school and, for many, their goal is getting their child excited […] The post How Parents Plan to Make Back-to-School ‘Magical’ For Their Kids appeared first on Good News Network.

NY Times Columnist Maureen Dowd Dishes on Biden 'Coup' -- 'A Jaw-Dropping Putsch'

New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd raised a lot of eyebrows with her Saturday column, with the provocative headline "The Dems Are Delighted. But a Coup Is Still a Coup." Liberal journalists don't like to describe top Democrats forcing Biden out of the 2024 campaign a "coup," since he's still technically in office now. The headline the paper was softer: "After Biden Bloodletting, Time for Fun!" It’s going to be a glorious coronation — except that everyone’s mad at one another. Top Democrats are bristling with resentments even as they are about to try to put on a united front at the United Center in the Windy City. A coterie of powerful Democrats maneuvered behind the scenes to push an incumbent president out of the race. It wasn’t exactly “Julius Caesar” in Rehoboth Beach. But it was a tectonic shift and, of course, there were going to be serious reverberations. Even though it was the right thing to do, because Joe Biden was not going to be able to campaign, much less serve as president for another four years, in a fully vital way, it was a jaw-dropping putsch…. Biden went from looking “forward to getting back on the campaign trail” to gone in one weekend, with the handprints of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries on the president’s back. "Party leaders whitewashed the coup by ornately extolling Biden," and she mentioned Nancy Pelosi saying Biden could be put on Mount Rushmore for his greatness. "Despite the grandiose flattery, Joe, Jill and Hunter were not fooled or appeased." There was a lot of gossip about the internal drama (and Obama behind the scenes) that hasn't exactly been leading the nightly newscasts of ABC, CBS, and NBC. The president already resented Obama for shoving him aside for Hillary [in 2016], and he resented Hillary for squandering that opportunity and losing to Trump. Even though Obama tried to do everything quietly to protect his saintly status, Joe was furious that Obama was sidelining him twice. Michelle Obama’s relationship with Biden soured when his family ostracized Hunter’s first wife, Michelle’s friend Kathleen; that’s one reason the popular Michelle wasn’t on the campaign trail for Biden. She noted Biden's first chief of staff Ron Klain went on TV with Anderson Cooper and complained Biden "won the nomination fair and square," drawing 14 million votes in the primary -- albeit with everyone trying to hide his decline. He added: “I do think, you know, the president was pushed by public calls from elected officials for him to drop out, from donors calling for him to drop out. And I think that was wrong.” Dowd wrapped it up by saying Trump winning would "soil" democracy:  Those who pushed out Biden should be proud. They saved him and their party from a likely crushing defeat, letting Trump snake back in and soil democracy. That would keep Biden off Rushmore.

What is Christian nationalism, and can America return to its Christian roots?

What is Christian nationalism, and can America return to its Christian roots?

— (@) Gnosticism — it’s a heresy which some of the earliest Christians anathematized and fought against. But since the 19th century, it has secretly and subtly increased its popularity amongst Christian, especially evangelical, circles. The earliest Gnostics essentially believed that all of the physical world is evil and painful. So, one of their goals in life was to escape the world. Similarly, some evangelicals believe that Christians should not try to “fix” the world through political means since the world is so evil. Instead of engaging in political action, Christians should only focus on winning souls to Christ since the world is (temporarily) controlled by the devil, whereas heaven is controlled by God in their minds. It’s true that getting into heaven is more important than winning an election. But they aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, orienting the political and social order toward God may lead more souls to Christ. That’s why some Christians are advocating for a public faith — one that isn’t shy to mix theological conservatism with political conservatism. On "Zero Hour," Stephen Wolfe, the author of "The Case for Christian Nationalism" and graduate from Louisiana State University with a PhD in political philosophy, sat down with James Poulos to discuss the proper role of faith in politics today.Wolfe criticizes evangelicals for caving to the left instead of trying to appeal to nominal Christians — many of whom are white, conservative Trump supporters; only attend church twice a year; but most importantly, can be convinced to be active members of a Christian church.A self-described “Christian nationalist,” he argues that “in the end, Christian nationalism [is] not about taking America back for God.”“There are aspects of that,” he adds, “but it's ultimately [about] want[ing] a nation where people are encouraged culturally to worship God ... it's not about taking dominion for dominion's sake.”As a Christian nationalist, Wolfe believes this can be achieved partly through political means. For Wolfe, governments should pass laws which align with the Bible and orient its citizens toward Christianity. But being a Christian nationalist doesn't just mean that the national governments should legislate everything. Sometimes, maybe even most of the time, the federal government gets it wrong. So, since the power of state governments “is not delegated from the president or or U.S. Congress,” Wolfe argues that state governments should “resist things that are unjust at the federal level.”To hear more of what Stephen Wolfe had to say about Christian nationalism, evangelicalism, the MAGA movement, and more, watch the full episode of "Zero Hour" with James Poulos.America was convinced tech would complete our mastery of the world. Instead, we got catastrophe — constant crises from politics and the economy down to the spiritual fiber of our being. Time’s up for the era we grew up in. How do we pick ourselves up and begin again? To find out, visionary author and media theorist James Poulos cracks open the minds — and hearts — of today’s top figures in politics, tech, ideas, and culture on "Zero Hour" on BlazeTV.
