Eric Church To Break Ground On 40-Home Neighborhood For North Carolina Hurricane Victims In April

Chief getting it done for the home state. Hurricane Helene made landfall in western Florida in September, and here we are now in February, and the devastation is still overwhelming, particularly in western North Carolina. The Category 4 hurricane brought sustained winds over 100 miles per hour, and mostly as a result of the flooding that followed, over 230 people people lost their lives. More than half of them in North Carolina. Eric Church, a North Carolina native, immediately stepped up and released “Darkest Hour,” signing over all the rights to the song to the people of North Carolina. Then, he teamed up with fellow North Carolina native and country music superstar, Luke Combs, for Concert for Carolina, an all-star charity show at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The two were able to raise a whopping $24 million for those affected by the storm. But he didn’t stop there. Church, via his Chief Cares foundation, launched the “Blueprint for the Blue Ridge,” a project dedicated to building 100 homes for 100 families who were displaced by Hurricane Helene. “Any time a community needs help, it’s always the community next door that comes running to help. And there are no communities next door. They’ve all been devastated. So we’ve made it our mission at Chief Cares that we’re going to be the community next door… We’re going to go and keep those people in their community, put a roof over their head, let ’em interact with their community, let ’em be a part of their community, and let ’em help rebuild the community. It goes way beyond 100 homes. I hope it’s a lot of homes. A lot more than 100 homes. I hope it’s about building the businesses and building the community back. That’s what we’re committing to at Chief Cares, and we would love your help.” And he also talked about how special the area is to him personally: “I’ve wrote every album of my career but one in Avery county, right here. So creatively it’s been real special to me, but spiritually it’s the place that my soul’s at rest. It’s the place that I get away from what I do in the world to come here and recharge. So it’s the most special place in the world to me, the mountains of this area.” And now, it’s been revealed that Church’s foundation has already purchased the land outside of Newland in Avery County, and they’re set to break ground on the project this April. They’re targeting for 40 homes to be move in-ready by June, with keys in hand for the new owners. The project would’ve actually been done sooner had winter weather not delayed the build. They also had to lay new roads, as well as sewer and water lines. The new neighborhood is also planning to have a community center and hiking trails. #BREAKING: Country music star, Eric Church confirms he is donating 40 homes to victims of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. He is building an ENTIRE neighborhood with a community center and hiking trails. The keys to the 1st home will be handed to families in June. pic.twitter.com/VqsgeNtfpy — Matt Van Swol (@matt_vanswol) February 15, 2025 The post Eric Church To Break Ground On 40-Home Neighborhood For North Carolina Hurricane Victims In April first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Brian Setzer says he can’t play guitar due to autoimmune disease

The Stray Cats co-founder and singer Brian Setzer revealed in a social media post that he can't play the guitar at the time due to an autoimmune disease he didn't specify. He said that there is no pain but he feels like he is wearing a pair of gloves when he plays and at the time he can't hold a pen or tie his own shoes. Brian Setzer says he can't play guitar due to autoimmune disease "Hi everybody, I just wanted to check in with you all. Towards the end of the last Stray Cats tour I noticed that my hands were cramping up. I’ve since discovered that I have an auto-immune disease. I cannot play guitar. There is no pain, but it feels like I am wearing a pair of gloves when I try to play." "I have seen some progress in that I can hold a pen and tie my shoes. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I was at a point where I couldn’t even do that. Luckily, I have the best hospital in the world down the block from me. It’s called the Mayo Clinic. I know I will beat this, it will just take some time. I love you all, Brian," he said. Some of his famous friends, like Steve Vai, showed their support in the comments. Vai said: "Brother Brian, you are a soldier! Take your time, you're on the mend, and we are all eager for your full recovery to optimum health. much love to you." Brian's most recent show was last August 17 with The Stray Cats at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, CT. Reunited since 2018, Stray Cats was formed in Massapequa, New York back in 1979. The band is formed by Brian Setzer (Guitar and vocals), Lee Rocker (Double Bass) and Slim Jim Phantom (Drums). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-yV4lBkwck&pp=ygUPc3RyYXkgY2F0cyAyMDI0The post Brian Setzer says he can’t play guitar due to autoimmune disease appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

How did Paul McCartney come up with the name ‘Sgt. Pepper’

Released by The Beatles in 1967, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is one of the most influential albums of all time. The concept record was made by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, even becoming an inspiration for the evolution of Progressive Rock music. But what is the origin of the name "Sgt. Pepper"? It was McCartney who came up with that name and he once explained its origin. How did Paul McCartney come up with the name 'Sgt. Pepper' It's actually quite simple, Paul had the idea after he heard someone saying "salt and pepper". He recalled that in an interview with Howard Stern in 2020. "I was listening to a lot of kind of offbeat music … crazy stuff like John Cage. […] I was coming on the plane with our roadie … he said, ‘Pass the salt and pepper’ and I thought he said Sergeant Pepper." "The whole concept was for us to pretend to be someone else so that’s why the uniforms … it was just a way to remove ourselves from just being Beatles and not be fed up with being musicians. […] It allowed us to do crazier things than we might otherwise have done. I wasn’t me. I was this guy in this other group – it was freeing," Paul McCartney said. Besides the two title-tracks, the famous Beatles album also had songs like "With a Little Help From My Friends", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", "Getting Better" and "A Day in the Life". The album peaked at number in several countries at the time. Some of them were Australia, Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States. The Beatles eight studio record sold an estimated amount of more than 32 million copies all over the world since it was released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwwABrNLvFs&pp=ygUwdGhlIGJlYXRsZXMgc2d0IHBlcHBlcidzIGxvbmVseSBoZWFydHMgY2x1YiBiYW5kThe post How did Paul McCartney come up with the name ‘Sgt. The song from Bob Dylan’s son that Roger Waters loves

The song from Bob Dylan’s son that Roger Waters loves

Roger Waters, the Pink Floyd co-founder, bassist, singer and main songwriter, was heavily influenced by the 60s music and was not only by the psychedelic and experimental bands. Besides The Beatles, he was also deeply inspired by Bob Dylan, who is one of the most prolific songwriters of all time. Curiously, he also loves a song written by Bob Dylan's son, Jakob Dylan, who is the leader of the group The Wallflowers. The song from Bob Dylan’s son that Roger Waters loves It was in an interview with World Magazine back in 2005 that Roger Waters revealed which were some of his favorite songs from the 90s and late 80s. One of the tracks mentioned was "One Headlight", which is The Wallflowers' signature song. “I loved that song One Headlight by The Wallflowers. It probably appealed to me the same way Tommy Steel’s version of Singing the Blues did when I first heard it and took up my position in the corner of the playground to defend it against the Guy Mitchell version!” Roger Waters said. The band led by Jakob Dylan was formed in 1989 in Los Angeles California with the guitarist Tobi Miller (who was part of the band until 1995). Although they released their debut album in 1992, they would only achieve fame with the release of "Bringing Down the Horse" (1996). That was the album where "One Headlight" first appeared. Besides peaking at number 1 on several charts, the track also won the Grammy for "Best Rock Song" and "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals". Besides that track, the record also had famous songs like "6th Avenue Heartache” and “Three Marlenas”. The album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 charts at the time. It became their best-selling record. Four years later, in 2000, the band released "(Breach)" which had other praised songs like "Sleepwalker". Since then the group released four studio albums: "Red Letter Days" (2002), "Rebel, Sweetheart" (2005) and "Glad All Over" (2012). The most recent one is "Exit Wounds", released in 2021. Waters' love for Bob Dylan's music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzyfcys1aLM&pp=ygUNb25lIGhlYWRsaWdodA%3D%3D Although the kind of music made by Roger and Pink Floyd was quite different musically from what Dylan was doing, the one thing they had in common was in songwriting. Both of them wrote about injustice, prejudice, war, and other social issues. In an interview with Howard Stern back in 2012, Waters explained how important Dylan was for him. He said that the musician showed that long songs also could be successful. He was asked by Stern if he hated the 'rule' that record companies had when he was starting. They used to say that songs couldn’t be longer than 3 or 4 minutes. They believed that if the track was long, it wouldn’t be played on the radio. “(Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage) ‘(Bob Dylan’s) ‘Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands’ changed my life. When I heard that I thought ‘Worthy’, if Bob can do it I can do it. It’s 20 minutes long, it’s a whole hour and in no way gets dull or boring or anything. You just get more and more and more and grow. It becomes more and more hypnotic the longer it goes on.” During his career, Waters covered Bob Dylan a few times during special concerts. He played “Forever Young” and even made a studio cover of  “Knocking On Heaven’s Door”. But he also criticized the American songwriter when he made the covers album “Shadows in the Night” in 2015. That album had tracks that were only recorded by Frank Sinatra. The post The song from Bob Dylan’s son that Roger Waters loves appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

JD Vance goes after European allies in Munich Security Conference speech | DW News

US Vice President JD Vance has used his speech at the Munich Security Conference to criticize what he called the "retreat" of free speech across Europe. "The threat that I worry most about, vis-a-vis Europe, is not Russia, it's not China, it's not any other external actor," Vance said. "What I worry about is the threat from within: the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values — values shared with the United States of America." "Across Europe, free speech, I fear, is in retreat," he added. "Under Donald Trump's leadership, we may disagree with your views, but we will defend your right to offer it in the public square — agree or disagree." UTL COMMENT:- Great speech, phenomenal....but he never mentioned the TRUE VILLAINS behind all this.....yep those guys with the funny little hats and pigtail beards..... The World shall never be saved unless those demons are fully exposed....... Here he talks about Trump protecting 'free speech' whilst Trump shall put in laws where you could be arrested should you ever criticise those sinister men in those funny little hats..... Hmmmm how ironic!!! #JDVance #VanceSpeech #MSC2025
