If anybody deserves a fun night out, it's these folks. First responders in Los Angeles have been working nonstop over the past month as a series of deadly fires have ravaged the state and left thousands homeless. Two of those fires, the Palisades fire and the Eaton fire, are still burning three weeks after they started, though both are nearly entirely contained at this point. But the damage is devastating, with the Palisades fire alone burning over 23,000 acres and destroying over 6,800 structures, killing 11 people so far. The damage from these fires is estimated to be over $250 billion, with residents frustrated at the slow response from the government as they seek to start the process of cleaning up and rebuilding. But through it all, and despite less than favorable conditions, first responders have been working around the clock to not only control the fires but also evacuate residents and provide assistance to the victims. So it's only fair that they get recognized for their hard work. A benefit concert was announced earlier this week to help raise money for those affected by the fires. FireAid will take place on Friday, January 30 at the Intuit Dome, home of the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Kia Forum, and will feature performances from artists like Jelly Roll, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, John Mayer and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But the next day, Jelly Roll plans to stick around and play a special show exclusively for first responders. According to TMZ, the free concert will be held at the Rose Bowl on February 1, and is open only to first responders such as firefighters, police officers, and the National Guard. Emails reportedly went out today to agencies giving them until this evening to respond and request up to four tickets to the free event - so they can bring their friends or family along as they have a much needed night away from work. The concert will differ from FireAid in that it's not a fundraiser or benefit concert, but simply a free show to thank the hardworking heroes who have been on the frontline working to help their community through the devastating fires. Although Jelly Roll is the only announced artist on the lineup so far, the event is billed as "Jelly Roll & Friends" so there's no doubt going to be some special guests and surprise appearances joining him to honor the local heroes. The event doesn't look like it's been advertised anywhere, and Jelly hasn't said anything about the show so far, so it seems like he's trying to keep it lowkey (sorry Jelly) as he gives back to the community in his own way. And honestly, say what you will about his music, but this is just one of the reasons that you'll never hear me say a bad word about Jelly Roll. You can hate on his music if you want, everybody has different taste so whatever, but the way he gives back and is continuing to try to help out not only his local community here in Nashville but inmates around the country and anybody else in need should be an example to everybody. Good on you, Jelly. Well done once again.

Nostalgic, indeed. I think many of us Eric Church fans would say that, even if "Springsteen" isn't our all-time favorite Chief song, it's up there as one of his biggest hits, and one of the most important song in his illustrious catalog. He released it as the third single from his breakout third studio album Chief, which itself was a huge turning point in his career, one that really launched him to the forefront of the mainstream country genre. Written by Eric along with Jeff Hyde and Ryan Tyndell, it’s become one of his signature songs, a fan-favorite, and I don’t think anyone would argue if you called it the biggest song of his entire career. It peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and has since been certified 7X Platinum by the RIAA. And believe it or not, Eric Church only has a handful of #1 hits. It’s of course a tribute to one of Church’s musical heroes Bruce Springsteen, but also a coming of age tale of a teenage summertime romance. It provides a level of nostalgia that honestly can make it hard for me to listen to at times. It’s not even really a sad song, but there’s something about it that always transports me to a different place and time, in terms of the lyrics and the song itself, but also where I was in my own life the first time I heard it… a young teenager myself, at a similar point in life to what he talks about in the song. And an artist on TikTok named Emmy Moyen recently shared a now-viral video of the song rewritten from a female's perspective, which is really creative and well-done, describing how the girl might've felt hearing their song "Springsteen" so many years later, reminiscing on that young love: "When I think about you, I want back 17, Riding shotgun in your jeep, When you compared the stars to my eyes, I'll turn back on that melody, If you wanna remake a memory, Dancing in the dark on the radio that night, Springsteen, Oh, Springsteen" It compliments the original so well, and obviously hearing that other point of view is really fun, especially for me as someone who loves that song deeply, and already has a special connection to it. She did a beautiful job with it, and if you love the original as much as I do, you have to check out Emmy's version... I don't know if she has more she hasn't shared yet, even a full song, or if she just wrote this verse, but either way, I love it: "This is 'Springsteen,' but I wrote it back from the girl’s perspective." The Trump White House on Wednesday rescinded an order that had paused all federal grants and loans. That order, issued Monday in a memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), had directed federal agencies to temporarily freeze financial assistance for “foreign aid, nongovernmental organizations, DEI, woke gender ideology, and the green new deal.”  The reversal comes a day after a federal judge halted the order’s implementation until Feb. 3.
