Trial Begins For Man Accused Of Brutally Beating Elderly Pro-Lifers Outside Planned Parenthood

The trial for a man accused of brutally beating two Catholic pro-life sidewalk counselors outside of a Baltimore Planned Parenthood is set to begin Wednesday. Jury selection begins at 9:00 a.m. local time at Baltimore City Court for the trial of 27-year-old Patrick Brice, who is charged over the beating of then 80-year-old Dick Schaefer and 73-year-old Mark Crosby on May 26, 2023. The two men were outside a Planned Parenthood in Baltimore when they were left bloodied after they were violently attacked.  Brice has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and two counts of reckless endangerment.  No arrests were made until over a year after the attack on July 1, 2024, when law enforcement identified Brice as the man behind the attack. The entire incident was caught on camera, and surveillance footage shows a man tackling Schaefer into a large potted plant. Crosby then ran over to help Schaefer before he was forced to the ground. The man in the video punches Crosby in the face and kicks him in the head.  Recounting the incident on Tuesday, Crosby told The Daily Wire that incident started after the attacker started an argument with Schaefer about abortion while outside of Planned Parenthood. He said he then saw the attacker “get in a football rushing position” before running Schaefer into a concrete planter and against the wall. When Crosby ran over to help, he said that Brice “hit me a couple times” before forcing him to the ground. He then said that Brice “reared back” and “kicked me as hard as he could.” The attack left Crosby seriously injured and hospitalized. After the incident, he was treated for a fractured bone in his face, blindness in one eye, head and neck pain, two fractured fingers, and bruising on his arms and legs.  Mark Crosby (Courtesy: Jay Walton) Despite the attack and future hostile encounters with Planned Parenthood employees, Crosby said both men have frequently returned to the Planned Parenthood. He said Schaefer still stood outside five days a week and that he would “back in action” after the trial ended.  Crosby said he wished that local Catholic leadership had been more outspoken in supporting them, noting that the Planned Parenthood where the attack took place is only a five minute walk away from the Baltimore Basilica, the first Catholic church built in the United States after it declared independence. Crosby told The Daily Wire that he was being represented by the Thomas More Society, while Schaefer had the counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice.

Horse Reunites With Her Foal 3 Years Later & Her Reaction Is Beautiful

Once a human baby is born, it’s the parents’ responsibility to help them grow into a happy, healthy adult. But the same can’t be said about all animals. Take, for example, horses. They can start becoming independent in mere months to a year or two. And for those who live under the care of humans, that can be sooner, should the foal be weaned at a younger age. Fuller Sport Horses is quite familiar with weaning a horse from her foal. They have a mama horse named Faye. She’s had four foals in total. And, according to a social media post, Faye hadn’t seen her first foal in years. This left them wondering: Would Faye even recognize her own offspring if they were reintroduced? Find out for yourself in the video below. @fullersporthorse That squeal was so dramatic, she was like “you’re my baby, but remember I’m still in charge even though you’re big now!”#foalsoftiktok #horselife #babyhorse #maresoftiktok #broodmares ♬ Metamorphosis – Danilo Stankovic Although Faye’s reaction was (mainly) subtle, these horse owners are certain she remembered Fern. Part of the reason why they were so confident has to do with the way Faye was persistently sniffing her foal. Normally, this isn’t something Faye would do. And as far as that squeal at the end of the video goes, well, Faye’s owners have a “theory.” “That squeal was so dramatic,” the caption of this heartwarming video reads. “She was like ‘You’re my baby, but remember I’m still in charge even though you’re big now!'” After Several Years Apart, This Mama Horse Still Recognizes Her Very First Foal As I’m sure you’ve noticed, Fern has grown quite a lot in not a lot of time. That’s because horses are known for growing rapidly. In fact, much of their growth takes place in their first year of life. That makes them nearly 90% full grown by the time they are a year old! “The squeal was her remembering her labor & delivery pains,” someone jokes in the comment section of the video, with another adding, “I saw a video of a lady that sold her heart horse when she was an early teen. Bought her back 20 yrs later. I think took her a moment but that horse nuzzled her as soon as she realized.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here! Prisons Across the World Are Shaving Days Off Sentences for Every Book Read by Their Inmates

For 13 years, the Brazilian government has offered its incarcerated citizens a simple deal: read a book, serve less time. This “Remission for Reading” program is now serving as a template to other nations, and prison populations are enjoying similar deals in countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. With a recidivism rate of more than […] The post Prisons Across the World Are Shaving Days Off Sentences for Every Book Read by Their Inmates appeared first on Good News Network.

“One is None” on a Homestead and a Budget

We’ve all heard the prepper mantra, “Two is one, and one is none.” Apparently, this originated with the Navy Seals, for whom I have a great deal of respect. However, I’m not a Navy Seal, and (being totally honest here) I’m pretty broke these days. So, how does one be all prepared when your budget, is well….in the scale of mini or micro?  As inflation sucked the margin of comfort out of my budget over the past few years, I’ve tightened my belt again and again. I do need to eat, and I do need a roof over my head, and (despite how challenging it has become) I do want a car because I live in a rural area where it would be an enormous hardship to live without one.  I know I’m not alone! So, in this article, I wanted to share the hard realities of what prepping and “one is none” looks like in my own life. As always, I look forward to your comments on how all of you are managing in this increasingly difficult financial climate. What I Don’t Have There are lots of things I don’t have and, quite simply, can’t afford to buy now. As I went to write this, I had to chuckle, as the list is pretty staggering. I don’t have a freeze-dryer. Heck, I don’t even have a dehydrator. Having lived off the grid for years, I prefer off-grid food preservation methods. If you want to learn more about what I do, check out this recent article. Heck, I still have months’ worth of vegetables down a hole in the ground. More on that in a future article… I don’t have solar power and a battery set up for the entire cabin. There are several reasons why I don’t. If the grid goes down, I’m just going with candles and lamps for the long term. I’ve lived with these solar battery systems and know they break down. Realistically, I know that I’m not able to maintain, fix, and replace parts on a system like that in a real SHTF.  I don’t have a working generator. I have one. I know how to tune it up. It has an oil leak somewhere. I have other priorities. I may sell it. All aspects of my cabin function without electricity, including my septic, except the fridges. In winter, that’s no prob. In summer, I would be in trouble (see wish list below). In a real SHTF, where would you get the fuel? And the sound of the generator would be bound to bring trouble in my rural area. What I Have One of I have one compound hunting bow. At one time, before my back injury, I could split my own arrows in a group from 50 yards. After I hurt my back, I haven’t been shooting it. As my back heals, I am wondering if I can get back to it one day in the future. I have one admittedly crappy fishing rod I bought from a thrift shop. I have one solar lantern that charges phones. I have one pair of high-quality hiking boots.  Why do I have just one of these items? Mainly because carrying a second of any of these in a real bug-out situation doesn’t seem realistic to me. In terms of fishing, what I do have in my BOB is some line and multiple hooks. My lack of funds means that I will need to make do with what I have in a long-term bug situation. So, given that I’m often choosing what foods I can and can’t afford to eat EACH WEEK, I have left my supplies of these at one is none. What I Have Multiples Of I know in the list above that boots are pretty important. I have a backup pair of boots that are not the same quality, but would be liveable. I keep my eye out in the local thrift shops to upgrade my second pair in the future. When I have backups of things, it’s because it would affect my immediate survival. Take water, for instance. I have so many portable water filters around that I probably forget how many I own. A couple of these are the filters on the drinking bottle type that is particularly good for being on the run. Another is a more bug-in type that can do thousands of gallons of water. So, no, I won’t be drinking funky water, SHTF come what may.  Low-cost multiples make sense to me: lighters, fire-starting methods, and fuel for a small portable stove in my BOB. Another item I have multiples of is knives and super high-quality axes. Can you ever have enough knives, I wonder? Perhaps not in this lifetime. I also have multiple sharpeners. How much real SHTF can you do without a decent knife? That is one question, my prepper friends, that I hope I never have the answer to. My Wishlist There are items that I would love to have, one of which I don’t. While I do not need a full solar array, I would be willing to take my chances with a small setup that could power my off-grid fridge. You see, this compact fridge has a special plug that allows it to be powered directly by DC current straight from a battery. Still, a ballpark estimate on two decent-sized deep cycle batteries and a panel and charge controller is going to run me around a grand. That’s money I just don’t have.  In my neck of the tick-infested woods, I would love to have a set of light tick-repellent clothing in my BOB. I don’t think I want to do SHTF with Lyme disease, either. I wish I had a high-quality winter-rated sleeping bag. I don’t. I hope I never have to bug out in the middle of winter. Yikes! One is None on a Budget It’s not easy making choices on what to spend your hard-earned money on these days. How about you? What are the things you make you have two or more of? What are the things you live with one of and hope it’s not none one day? Please tell us in the comments section. Biden Admin Filled Terrorist Coffers With Over $1.3 Billion Before Trump Took Wrecking Ball to Foreign Aid

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—More than $1.3 billion in taxpayer funds from the Biden administration ended up helping groups that sponsored or committed terrorism. Federal watchdog reports and other documents show former President Joe Biden’s aid programs funneled the money toward a network of terrorism in the Muslim world—largely by reversing Trump-era policies. National security experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation the new Trump administration must take the trend more seriously. “We should not be putting money into any country or areas where a terrorist group remains in control,” Bill Roggio, senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said. Roggio said that “aid, like money, is fungible.” “It winds up propping up these groups,” the counterterrorism analyst told the DCNF. “It allows them to use … whatever money they have to invest into their terrorist activities.” The State Department told the DCNF last week that “national security is and will remain a top priority” after President Donald Trump announced he is reevaluating foreign aid programs. “The review period is a measure put in place for us to align our ongoing work with the America First agenda,” the department said. “The results of the in-depth review will be communicated transparently.” Trump also placed dozens of senior officials on leave from the United States Agency for International Development, one of the entities responsible for funding to Afghanistan that the Taliban stole on Biden’s watch. The Trump administration closed down USAID’s headquarters Monday and may try to dissolve the agency altogether. The largest share of Biden-era dollars linked to terrorism went to Palestinian organizations, Congressional Research Service records show. The Biden administration gave $1,053,400,000 in taxpayer money to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which claims to help war-afflicted Palestinian civilians but is tied to terrorists fighting Israel, according to U.S. and Israeli intelligence. Biden reversed a Trump-era ban on UNRWA funding in 2021 but brought back the ban last year after Israel accused UNWRA workers of participating in Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attacks. Intelligence officials later revealed that more than 1,000 UNRWA employees, or around 10%, were linked to the groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, according to documents found on the bodies of dead terrorists and other evidence. A dozen took part in the Oct. 7 massacre, including a Hamas commander who was teaching in elementary school for UNRWA and led a siege against an Israeli kibbutz that killed almost 100 people. UNWRA’s schools have long used curriculum for Palestinian children that glorifies terrorists and martyrdom, a March 2023 report from UN Watch found. The curriculum comes from the Palestinian Authority, a governing body in the West Bank that the Biden administration considered more friendly to American interests than Hamas. The Palestinian Authority also made a profit from Biden’s presidency despite its program that pays Palestinians and their families as a reward for acts of terror against Jews. Trump and Congress passed a law in 2018 blocking economic support funds for the Palestinian Authority due to its program. Trump later paused all remaining funding for the Palestinian Authority before Biden took office and resumed it. The Biden administration in part revived the economic support fund that Trump’s law restricts. The State Department claimed in documents from 2021 that “most” of the money did not “directly benefit the PA [Palestinian Authority]” in violation of the law. However, officials sent $265 million straight to the Palestinian Authority for its “security forces and justice sector institutions” throughout Biden’s presidency, according to the Congressional Research Service. Under Biden, the Palestinian Authority agreed to pay more than $97 million to reward the perpetrators of the Oct. 7 attacks, the Washington Free Beacon reported. “The Palestinian Authority does not honor its commitments to provide security in the West Bank,” Roggio told the DCNF. “Until it’s willing to do that, I wouldn’t fund them.” A conservative group sued Biden and former Secretary of State Antony Blinken in 2022 on behalf of terror victims, alleging they broke Trump’s 2018 law by funding the PA. The case is ongoing. The rest of the Biden-era funds that boosted terrorism fell into the hands of the Taliban after it reclaimed Afghanistan in August 2021. The U.S. government’s Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) exposed mounting security issues as Biden continued funding humanitarian efforts for Afghans under the brutal Islamic regime. The government’s programs were designed to help Afghan women’s rights, economic conditions, and other causes. “It’s terrible. We want to help Afghan women,” Roggio said. “As well-meaning and well-intentioned as providing aid is,” he said, it can end up “extending these problems.” SIGAR reported in 2022 and again in 2023 that the Taliban “likely gained access to approximately $57.6 million” meant for the former Afghan government when it seized the government’s financial accounts. Last May, SIGAR found that U.S.-backed humanitarian groups had also paid “at least $10.9 million of U.S. taxpayer money” in taxes and other fees to the Taliban. SIGAR acknowledged that this was “likely only a fraction” of the total amount due to lack of documentation. In total, the recorded amount that UNRWA, the Palestinian Authority and the Taliban raked in under Biden is an estimated $1,386,900,000. One legislator on the House Foreign Affairs Committee has tried to stop the U.S. from enriching the Taliban for years. “They take our money and we give it to them, ’cause we’re gutless,” Republican Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee told the DCNF. He said the U.S. has effectively been “on both sides” of wars in Afghanistan and the Middle East due to the vulnerabilities of aid programs. For a solution, Burchett pointed to legislation he has repeatedly filed that would require the State Department to form stricter procedures and oversight of its Afghanistan funds. The latest version of the bill now sits in the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “Here is my proposal: Make those disbursing U.S. funds liable for their decisions,” American Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow Michael Rubin told the DCNF. “If the money goes to terror proxies, then they should face penalties for negligence or even prosecution for terror finance.” “If they are not responsible enough to tell the difference [between] legitimate recipients and terrorists, then they should pay the price,” said Rubin, a former Pentagon official who has traveled across the Middle East. “If they have skin in the game, these scandals might not be so commonplace.” The DCNF’s analysis does not account for reported examples of Hamas fighters stealing humanitarian aid shipments that Americans may have paid for. Republican lawmakers have repeatedly said they got no answers on the issue from Biden’s USAID, now under threat of closure. “They secretly poured literally uncountable hundreds of millions of dollars toward Hamas, including tens of millions of cash they could never account for,” Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said about USAID officials. “The American people deserve to know where their hard-earned dollars are going and spending must be aligned with what is best for our country.” “It’s clear that certain functions of the agency are important and those must continue, but with oversight and accountability,” Cruz told the DCNF. Burchett and other Republicans sent a letter to USAID in October 2023, asking for documents and warning of the risks of aiding Hamas. Burchett told the DCNF that the agency has not fulfilled the request. “I never expected to get anything back on it,” he said. Adam Pack contributed to this reporting.
