Rob Lowe’s Son Praises Dad For Being A “Complete Idiot In The Best Way”

If you can grow up to have a loving, respectful, and fun relationship with your parents as an adult, it is a huge blessing. If you grow up and decide to go into business with them, it can be an equally incredible blessing that also comes with stress and sometimes frustration. John Owen Lowe, 29, knows all about having a great dad who he not only loves but also gets to work with. He will also tell you it’s not easy. John Owen’s dad is Rob Lowe, 60, whose successful career and decades-long marriage to his mom, Sheryl Berkoff, have proven to be an inspiration. View this post on Instagram A post shared by John Owen Lowe (@johnnylowe) John Owen And Rob Work Together The pair currently star on the Netflix show Unstable, and John Owen said the experience has been great. “Professionally, I would say we found a groove, so we understood how to navigate each other’s behavior on set, which was not something we had ever experienced before,” he told Fox News. The two are learning to work together, which has had challenges. “So, I think there was less frustration in that regard. I won’t speak for him, but I will say for me, and I think that with that sort of additional respect for each other professionally came some personal respect, just a modicum, just a tiny bit, but it is very fun working with him. My dad, he is a complete idiot in the best way.”  But don’t get it twisted. They are still a father and son, and sometimes, Rob just bugs him. “This is the least articulate I’ll be, but he’s just annoying. He’s really annoying. He comments on my hair and my clothes and how puffy my eyes are and why there are bags under my eyes in the morning and wants to know why I was up late and what I was doing. He’s nosy, and he wants to know about my personal life and who I’m dating and blah blah blah. He’s annoying.” This story’s featured image is by Charley Gallay/Getty Images for Netflix. Golden Retriever Explores Life With His Trusted Stuffie & Takes Adorable Pics At Every Stop, Look

Prepare to meet the cutest duo on the internet. Gumbo and Shrimp are quickly becoming internet superstars. The golden retriever has a best friend, a small stuffed golden retriever that looks just like him. Gumbo doesn’t just love Shrimp the Stuffie; he brings him everywhere! Golden Retriever And His Stuffie PEOPLE told the story of how Gumbo and his owner met. Hana Brickman was in nursing school and volunteered to train service dogs. She was matched with Gumbo, but this loveable pup failed the program. She said, “He was not serious enough.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Hana • Gumbo • Maple • Pulse (@mycaninelife) Rather than part with the adorable golden retriever, Hana decided to adopt him herself. The pair have been inseparable ever since—almost as inseparable as him and his stuffie. The true irony of the dynamic golden retriever duo is that the stuffie was not meant for Gumbo. Hana mentioned, “It wasn’t actually for him. It was meant to be for me.” However, after Hana saw how attached Gumbo became to the stuffed animal, she let him keep it. Gumbo And Shrimp Go Everywhere Together Whether it is relaxing in their own backyard or going for an exotic hike, this golden retriever and his stuffie are always together. The infatuation started shortly after Hana purchased the stuffed animal. She mentioned how, although it was meant for her, once Gumbo claimed it by drooling on it she let him have it. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gumbo (@gumbowithshrimp) He began showing it off to guests when they came over for visits. Next, the stuffed animal joined them on all of their outdoor adventures. Gumbo still shares his stuffie with everyone he encounters on his hikes. The pair got so popular that Hana let Gumbo’s Instagram followers name the stuffie. She held a contest for the name, and Shrimp was the winning name. Alas, @gumbowithshrimp was born. Now, people can watch this pair of golden retrievers go on all sorts of adventures together. The duo even went to Disney together! While Shrimp may need the occasional surgery and may have gotten lost a time or two, the pair always ends up back together. If you are looking for your daily dose of cuteness, be sure to check them out. After all, nothing is better than a dog with his look-alike stuffie exploring the world together. FDA Approves Drug That Targets Brain Cancer Gene Mutation That Could Delay Need for Radiation and Chemotherapy

A new drug for a type of brain cancer, called IDH-mutant low-grade glioma, was approved this month by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration—a promising treatment that stemmed from a genetic discovery made at the Johns Hopkins Cancer Center 16 years ago. The drug, called vorasidenib, is a targeted cancer therapy that works by inhibiting […] The post FDA Approves Drug That Targets Brain Cancer Gene Mutation That Could Delay Need for Radiation and Chemotherapy appeared first on Good News Network.

House Committee Slams EU For X Censorship Threats

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. The House Judiciary Committee has issued a stern critique of the European Union’s actions, which they perceive as an attempt to “silence great Americans like Elon Musk,” and is considering launching an investigation into what they deem an “infringement on free speech.” Committee Chair Jim Jordan escalated tensions on Thursday by dispatching a strongly worded letter to EU Commissioner Thierry Breton, accusing him of employing legal measures to target Musk. The contention arises shortly after Breton, in a public post, cautioned Musk against allowing “hateful content” to proliferate on X, especially in the lead-up to a scheduled discussion with former President Trump. This admonition was tied to EU regulations enacted in 2022, which hold social media platforms like X, Facebook, and TikTok accountable, with potential multibillion-dollar fines for spreading content that promotes hatred or violence in the EU.   In his correspondence, Jordan specifically criticized Breton for purportedly aiming these regulations at conservatives like Musk and Trump to dissuade them. Jordan’s letter firmly requested that Breton cease any efforts to intimidate those participating in US political discourse: “In light of your recent threats of reprisal toward X Corp… for facilitating political discourse in the US, we write to demand that you stop any attempt to intimidate individuals or entities engaged in political speech in the United States,” he articulated. He added a reminder that such coercive tactics against free speech are not permissible under US governance. The European Commission’s response to Breton’s actions was swift, as it quickly clarified that it had not sanctioned his authoritarian letter. The Trump campaign also voiced disapproval, accusing the EU of attempting to influence US political dynamics, with Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung stating, “The European Union should mind their own business instead of trying to meddle in the US Presidential election,” and emphasizing, “Let us be very clear — the European Union is an enemy of free speech and has no authority of any kind to dictate how we campaign.” In a broader move, Jordan has also targeted US leadership, issuing subpoenas to the State Department to uncover any communications with the EU regarding this issue. These actions by Jordan are part of a wider congressional push against censorship, underscored by investigations led by the Judiciary and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government into potential executive branch collusion with intermediaries to censor legal speech. The Subcommittee has also been reviewing the efforts of other governments, including the EU, to censor online speech. TIME Glorifies Kamala as Media Rallies

Ya gotta love it. Long after the 2024 campaign enters the dustbin of history, the Time magazine cover story on Kamala Harris will shine through as a perfect example of just how the liberal “mainstream” media rallies when one of their own is newly front and center. The current Time cover is a drawing/painting picturing the Democrat nominee as a cross somewhere between Miss America and a religious icon. Understanding a challenge when he sees one, opponent Donald Trump quickly said the following when asked for comment. He replied, according to USA Today, as follows:   Trump complimented Harris’ cover image during an Aug. 12 interview with Elon Musk broadcast on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.  He described her as a "beautiful woman," comparing her to his wife, former first lady Melania Trump.  "She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live," Trump said. "It was a drawing, and actually, she looked very much like a great first lady, Melania."  “She didn’t look like Kamala, but of course, she’s a beautiful woman, so we’ll leave it at that,” Trump continued. Question: Can you, dear reader, imagine how a Time cover would depict a conservative and Republican woman were one to be nominated for president or vice president? No need to wonder. Back there in the stone age of September 2008, here is the Time cover of newly minted GOP vice presidential nominee and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.  Not a painting or drawing glorifying her attractiveness, the cover is instead a serious photo close up of the new nominee, glasses in place and no glorification. Recall the Time headline for Kamala: “Her Moment.”  As in…hurrah! Three cheers! Our female savior is here!” For Governor Palin, on the other hand, the caption condescends:  The Education of Sarah Palin. As if the GOP had reached out to some female yahoo who was in serious need of basic education. This, in short, is how the liberal media plays the game. You’re a conservative, a Republican? Woman or man you will find yourself portrayed ever so slightly (or worse!) in negative fashion. But if you’re a liberal? There can be no glorification that is enough to display your brilliance and attractiveness to the American public. History records that this media double standard has been around for decades. Recall that when he ran for president -- and was elected four times -- the crippled-from-polio Franklin D. Roosevelt had a quiet agreement with the media of the day. Obviously getting in and out of a wheelchair is a physical difficulty, with FDR understandably needing help from others to accomplish getting in or out of his wheel chair going to or coming from some other place. In fact, history records that in the day, if the Secret Service caught a photographer taking pictures of FDR with any indication of being assisted, their cameras were, in fact, summarily confiscated. We’re a long way from the 1930’s and 1940’s. But, it seems, the liberal media desire to project a favorable if not quasi-religious image of Democrat leaders in the most favorable of images has gone nowhere - perhaps increasing. When Obama defeated McCain-Palin in 2008, Time's cover glorified him as....the New FDR.

Weekend Read: At war with Drunkspeare

In many ways, Steven Pressfield means us to take the title of his invaluable book “The War of Art” literally. The process of artistic creation, as he sees it, involves persistent battle with a tireless and devious enemy: resistance. Resistance is what we face whenever we find ourselves entertaining yet another reason not to follow our primal urge to sit down and write. For Newlove, to drink was to take refuge in delusion, a destructive yet comforting haze inimical to true artistic creation. One of resistance's primary weapons is fear, which Pressfield makes a point of addressing with blunt honesty: “The artist committing himself to his calling has volunteered for hell, whether he knows it or not. He will be dining for the duration on a diet of isolation, rejection, self-doubt, despair, ridicule, contempt, and humiliation.” A successful novelist and screenwriter in his own right, Pressfield has dedicated much of his life to arming his fellow scribes with the tools and the courage they need to face this challenge head on.Writing books isn't exactly digging ditches, as many a novelist as observed in a moment of faux-humility. True enough. But an undug ditch rarely inflicts the kind of psychological and emotional distress that the blank page does.Like many writers, Donald Newlove (who died in 2021 at 93) attempted to ease the pain of creation by drinking. His prodigious efforts earned him a few unpublishable manuscripts (the work of his rarely-sober alter ego “Drunkspeare”) and years of crippling alcoholism. When he finally did quit in his late thirties, Newlove found he had a lot to say about the effect of alcohol on his work and on the work of other writers. In 1981 he published “Those Drinking Days: Myself and Other Writers," re-released in 2022 by Tough Poets Press. “Those Drinking Days” empathetically yet unsparingly dismantles persistent, romantic notions linking artistic inspiration and addiction. For Newlove, to drink was to take refuge in delusion, a destructive yet comforting haze inimical to true artistic creation. Newlove diagnoses the same problem in many of his heroes, in a passage which any sad, young, literary man biding his time in a bar may find soberingly familiar: “[T]hese writers toweringly resist and consistently fail to recognize home truths about themselves ... False allegiances abound: to culture and place of birth, to so-called social graces, to male bonding in war or sports or hunting, to ‘literature’ and the fellowship of dead drunks, and to living companions at their manly self-sacrifice to Old Ego-giant."
