NORTHWOOD (Reuters) — France and Britain on Thursday agreed to reinforce cooperation over their respective nuclear arsenals as the two European powerhouses seek to respond to growing threats to the continent and uncertainty over their U.S. ally. The announcement came after French President Emmanuel Macron concluded a three-day state visit to Britain, where the two allies sought to turn the page on years of turbulence following Britain’s decision to withdraw from the European Union. “This morning, we signed the Northward declaration, confirming for the first time that we are coordinating our independent nuclear deterrence,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told a news conference alongside Macron. “From today, our adversaries will know that any extreme threat to this continent would prompt a response from our two nations. There is no greater demonstration of the importance of this relationship.” U.S. President Donald Trump’s questioning of burden-sharing in NATO and his overtures to Russia have led to existential questions in Europe about the trans-Atlantic relationship and Washington’s commitment to helping defend its European allies. Europe’s primary nuclear deterrence comes from the United States and is a decades-old symbol of trans-Atlantic solidarity. Macron said the two countries had created an oversight committee to coordinate their cooperation, a task he said was vital. “The decision is that we don’t exclude the coordination of our respective deterrents. It’s a message that our partners and adversaries must hear,” Macron said. The closer cooperation had nothing to do with their efforts to create a coalition of the willing to support Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire with Russia, he added. While both sides will keep their own decision-making processes and strategic ambiguity, the move does suggest further protection for the continent at a time when the United States’ commitment to Europe is under scrutiny. Macron has previously said he will launch a strategic dialogue on extending the protection offered by France’s nuclear arsenal to its European partners. The U.S. has nuclear arms in Europe and tens of thousands of troops deployed in bases across the continent with military capabilities that Europe cannot match. France spends about 5.6 billion euros ($6.04 billion) annually on maintaining its stockpile of 290 submarine- and air-launched nuclear weapons, the world’s fourth largest. Britain describes its nuclear programme as “operationally independent,” but sources missile technology from the U.S. and depends on the U.S. for acquisition and maintenance support. “On the nuclear agreement that we’ve reached today … it is truly historic,” Starmer said. As Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents face increasing threats of violence, a Massachusetts lawmaker wants to make them more easily identifiable. Massachusetts State Representative James Hawkins on Monday introduced a bill that would require ICE agents to remove face coverings while performing their public duties — making him the latest Democrat pushing to expose immigration officials. On Tuesday, Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced a bill that would prohibit federal agents from concealing their identities with masks while also requiring them to “display their name or badge number and the agency they represent.” In New York City, lawmakers — including Comptroller Brad Lander, who was arrested by ICE for interfering with a deportation — introduced a similar bill, with Lander saying ICE agents wear masks “for the purpose of striking fear into asylum seekers and immigrants in the hope that they will be terrorized by masked gangs who seek to grab and abduct them.” But according to White House Border Czar Tom Homan, ICE agents are simply masking up to protect themselves. “Some of you here say, ‘Why are they wearing masks?'” Homan said during a May press conference. “They’re trying to protect themselves and their families! … They’re being doxxed! … Assaults are up, and it won’t be tolerated!” There has been a 500% increase in assaults on ICE agents in recent months, according to the Department of Homeland Security. As The Daily Wire reported, an app called ICEBlock allows users to alert one another to the presence of ICE agents, something the White House says puts agents in imminent danger. Just yesterday, Border Patrol agents arrested four people in Los Angeles who are suspected of planting tire spikes in front of vehicles used by federal immigration enforcement agents. President Donald Trump also underscored why border patrol and ICE agents may need to wear masks. “They’re great patriots,” Trump said. “If you expose them because of, you know, statements like have been made by Democrats and others on the left, usually mostly, I think, probably exclusively, you put them in great danger, tremendous danger.” Still, Democrats insist that ICE agents need to be unmasked. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) recently pledged  that “every single” ICE agent would “be identified,” “no matter what it takes.” The Daily Wire reached out to Hawkins’s office but did not receive an immediate response.

A Texas pediatrician apologized after being fired for a Facebook comment saying Texas flood victims who supported President Donald Trump got “what they voted for.” Christina B. Propst, who had been employed by Blue Fish Pediatrics, said in a statement to KPRC that her “regrettable comment was in no way a response to the tragic loss of human life.” “Unfortunately, my online comment is now being shared with the false impression that I made it after the devastating loss of life was known,” Propst said. “I did not.” Propst said she deleted the comment after she learned of the fatalities, which include dozens of children. Although it’s unclear when Propst posted her comment, the earliest news on July 4 reported fatalities, including children attending a girls’ Christian camp. The Daily Wire reported early that morning that “multiple people [were] reportedly dead.” The Associated Press published a July 4 story detailing the known fatalities, reporting that multiple children were dead or missing. In the now-deleted comment, Propst said she hoped non-MAGA voters remained safe during the flooding. “May all visitors, children, non-MAGA voters, and pets be safe and dry,” she said under the Facebook user name, Chris Tina. “Kerr County MAGA voted to gut FEMA. Multiple Democrats have repeated the claim that funding cuts and staff shortages at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) contributed to the death toll. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) took shots at the Trump administration on X. “Accurate weather forecasting helps avoid fatal disasters,” Murphy said in a post. “There are consequences to Trump’s brainless attacks on public workers, like meteorologists.” Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) echoed Murphy’s claims in a letter, calling for an investigation into whether staff shortages hindered response times. But experts say the reductions did not directly affect response times. “There is little evidence that any of the recent cuts to NOAA/NWS negatively impacted services for this event, regardless of what may be being said on social media,” said Alan Gerard, a former director of the Analysis and Understanding Branch in the National Severe Storms Laboratory at NOAA. Jason Runyen, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office, said the local weather service had additional staff on hand to prepare for potential flooding. “There were extra people in here that night, and that’s typical in every weather service office — you staff up for an event and bring people in on overtime and hold people over,” Runyen said. President Donald Trump said he plans to travel to Texas on Friday to meet with flood victims. The flash floods have killed at least 110 people, and more than 170 people are still missing.

Anti-Israel activism has turned into criminal acts on college campuses all across America– including mine. Since the massacre of Israeli citizens by Hamas on October 7, 2023, my campus has been the victim of at least three incidents of antisemitic vandalism, with only the most recent garnering any strong public condemnation from the University. In a follow-up letter sent to President Armstrong less than two months after his testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce in a hearing titled Beyond the Ivy Leagues: Stopping the Spread of Antisemitism on American Campuses, the committee specifically highlighted a recent June 4 vandalism incident during which “pro-Palestinian activists vandalized a Cal Poly building with slogans including ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘Cal Poly Divest.'” I was present on May 7 in the Rayburn House Office on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. when President Armstrong gave that testimony. The hearing was meant to spotlight antisemitism on campuses like mine. During his remarks, President Armstrong asserted that Cal Poly is committed to fostering an environment free from discrimination and religious intolerance. However, this claim is contradicted by the university’s own actions — including its sponsorship of a Cal Poly Students for Justice in Palestine (CPSJP) event titled “All Day for Palestine” on May 31. Just four days before the group of anti-Israel activists carried out the vandalism attack on a Cal Poly building, two university-run departments — the Multicultural Center (MCC) and Student Diversity and Belonging — co-sponsored the event. The caption promoting the event on the MCC’s Instagram account read: “Don’t miss out on this opportunity to commune with like-minded people and honor the culture of Palestinian resilience… and as always, Free Palestine!!!” This was not a neutral gathering, and the university did not just permit it – it funded and endorsed it, allowing for antisemitic messaging to be amplified with institutional support. The event, hosted at the heart of campus in the University Union, spanned six hours and featured students wearing keffiyehs hoisting Palestinian flags and distributing antisemitic materials. Fliers featured slogans such as “From the river to the sea,” a phrase calling for the elimination of Israel, while another pamphlet promoted the Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS) movement, which framed Israeli universities, companies, and cultural institutions as targets for protest and isolation. These messages are not just hateful in theory — they appear to have inspired the June 4 vandalism, which echoed their rhetoric. Given this context, it is no surprise that a group felt emboldened to carry out the criminal act just days later. To make matters worse, only hours after the vandalism incident, CPSJP posted a Venmo link titled “SLO Bail Fund” on their Instagram story, soliciting donations for the individuals arrested for committing the act. The post claimed the activists had been arrested for “protesting for a free Palestine” — effectively justifying and even celebrating their actions. As a Jewish student leader of multiple clubs, I am familiar with the extensive process of requesting and hosting on-campus events, let alone gaining co-sponsorship from a university division. It requires multiple faculty members and administrators signing off and many other logistical hurdles. It is clear that the “All Day for Palestine” event was not an oversight, but a coordinated, institutionally-endorsed initiative which platformed materials and rhetoric that alienated and endangered Jewish students. This danger is not theoretical. The call for a “Free Palestine” is precisely the same language which has been most recently used in two terror attacks against Jews in Washington D.C. and in Boulder, Colorado. The fact that it has also inspired criminal conduct on our campus demands education and leadership about the harm of misinformation and the vilification of Zionism, or the belief in the Jewish right to self determination in their ancestral homeland, which most Jews around the world agree is central to their Jewish identity. Cal Poly Students for Justice in Palestine has made its goals unmistakably clear. In an Instagram post celebrating the “All Day for Palestine” event, the group advertised an upcoming meeting to “further define the role of the student intifada for a free Palestine.” The term intifada is historically associated with violence targeting Jews, and its promotion on a college campus by a university-sanctioned group should raise alarms. It is time for Cal Poly to make a choice: Will the university continue to bolster antisemitic activity under the guise of social justice — such as sponsoring events like “All Day for Palestine” — or will it take meaningful action to protect its Jewish students before the climate worsens? Will it be proactive or reactive? WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security has arrested two MS-13 gang leaders wanted in El Salvador for violent crimes that include murder, drug trafficking, and gang conspiracy. One of these gang leaders, The Daily Wire can exclusively report, is Rene Escobar-Ochoa, arrested on July 9 during a coordinated enforcement operation in Omaha, Nebraska. Though U.S. Border Patrol encountered him as far back as 2023, he was allowed to remain in the country under President Joe Biden’s administration, DHS shared. The second gang member, who is a Salvadoran national, is not named by ICE but is on El Salvador’s 100 Most Wanted Fugitives list, according to DHS. Fox News first reported his arrest on Thursday afternoon. He is wanted for five counts of murder, and U.S. authorities had previously convicted him for illegally crossing the border. Photo courtesy of DHS. “The Biden Administration allowed two ringleaders of MS-13, one of the most violent gangs in the world, straight into our country,” DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said on Thursday. “One of these depraved aliens is on El Salvador’s 100 Most Wanted Fugitives list and is wanted for five counts of murder. The other has an INTERPOL notice for drug trafficking.” “These are the kinds of scum-bags sanctuary politicians are protecting and letting walk free on America’s streets,” McLaughlin added. Both arrests were led by HSI Omaha with support from federal and international law enforcement partners, and ICE is holding both gang members in custody as ICE coordinates with El Salvadoran authorities to send them back to their home country to “face justice.” DHS emphasizes that the MS-13 gang members’ ability to get into the United States only highlights the danger that open border policies present to American citizens, as well as President Donald Trump’s administration’s efforts to stem the border crisis. In the first 100 days of the second Trump administration, ICE arrested 66,463 illegal aliens and removed 65,682 aliens, “including criminals who threaten public safety and national security.” Three in four of the arrests were criminal illegal aliens, the agency said. Criminal records of the aliens arrested include 9,639 assaults, 6,398 DWIs or DUIs, and 1,479 weapon offenses. “We removed over 65,000 illegal aliens to countries across the world,” ICE acting Director Todd M. Lyons said in June when ICE released the first 100 days numbers. “We’re just 100 days into this administration and thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is using every tool at its disposal to enforce our country’s immigration laws and protect our communities.”

On Thursday, the Washington Post published an op-ed titled “Donald Trump is not a clown. I should know.” In the piece, Tim Cunningham — a professional clown and board president of Clowns Without Borders — castigates Trump critics who refer to the president as a “clown” or his administration as a “clown show.” He cites several examples, including the “Kick Out the Clowns” organized last June by critics of Trump’s parade celebrating the army’s 250th, who saw it as “tacky” and “inspired by dictators.” “Clown demands years, if not a lifetime, of study,” Cunningham wrote, inexplicably using his title as some kind of proper noun. Cunningham even considers clowning sacred, noting that “several ancient Indigenous cultures revere a sacred clown figure.” “For example, the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Sioux) people celebrate the heyoka, an honorable community member who uses humor to shed light on societal problems.” “Real clowns,” he claims, unite people in “laughter, levity, and creativity.” Nothing on the president’s record “qualifies Trump for such a title,” Cunningham writes, noting that “all Clown shares the common values of healing, empathy and reflection.” In February, Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos announced an overhaul of the paper’s opinion section. The Amazon CEO wrote that going forward, the Post was “going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets.” This “significant shift,” as Bezos called it, led editorial page editor David Shipley to quit. It’s unclear how Cunningham’s op-ed relates to the “pillars” Bezos claimed to build the Post’s editorial section around. The paper — which infamously changed its motto to “Democracy Dies In Darkness” in response to President Donald Trump’s first election — has recently offered employees buyouts as it downsizes and restructures its newsroom. Cunningham — who works for a “humanitarian clowning” nonprofit called Clowns Without Borders — did not limit his criticisms to Trump critics. “Every election season, the word ‘clown’ resurfaces to compare tumultuous Washington politics to a circus,” he wrote. “Political commentators and social media users are not the only ones who wrongfully sling this jibe. ‘Clown’ is used by almost everyone to belittle those seen as foolish or incompetent.” Ultimately, though, his piece is yet another criticism of Trump. He ends by urging readers to “find a better metaphor to despise and depose fascism.” As an alternative, Cunningham suggests the word “buffoon,” which Merriam-Webster defines as “clown.”
