Newsom responds to Oakland's crime surge by sending more attorneys after DA's leftist policies prompted prosecutors to quit

California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom's office announced Thursday that it plans to tackle Oakland's crime surge by sending more attorneys to assist Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price.A press release from the governor's office stated that Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta "launch[ed] a new partnership" with Price "to increase the capacity to prosecute suspects involved in violent crimes‚ serious drug-related crimes‚ and property crimes — including retail theft and auto burglary — in Oakland and the East Bay.""The partnership will result in the deployment of deputy attorneys general from the California Department of Justice and attorneys from the California National Guard — adding capacity to prosecute suspects arrested for serious and complex crimes in Alameda County‚" the press release added.Newsom's office claimed that the new partnership will "boost law enforcement capacity in Oakland and the East Bay‚" an area recently plagued by rampant criminal activity. The additional attorneys will focus their attention on investigating and prosecuting individuals suspected of committing violent‚ property‚ and drug-related offenses."An arrest isn't enough. Justice demands that suspects are appropriately prosecuted. Whether it's 'bipping' or carjacking‚ attempted murder or fentanyl trafficking‚ individuals must be held accountable for their crimes using the full and appropriate weight of the law‚" Newsom stated. The term "bipping" refers to a method used by car burglars to break into vehicles quietly.Price welcomed Newsom's decision to send additional attorneys to help combat "organized retail crime and the scourge of fentanyl in our community.""I am assigning Alameda County career prosecutor Assistant DA Michael Nieto to represent my office in this collaborative effort‚" Price said. The leftist DA is currently facing a recall effort over her soft-on-crime policies that have prompted several prosecutors to resign. According to a recent report from the Oaklandside‚ the recall campaign has spent $2.2 million since its launch and is backed mainly by financiers and real estate interests. Price's critics must obtain at least 73‚195 signatures by mid-March to get the recall on the ballot.Price has been blasted by local residents and Oakland's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for her "progressive policies and failed leadership." Despite the criticism‚ Price continues to tout her "restorative justice" policies‚ which she claims have closed the gap on racial disparities in the criminal justice system.During a July interview with KPIX-TV‚ the controversial DA responded to her critics by stating that her position "has really no impact on crime." Yet despite Price's baffling statement‚ Newsom now claims his administration is combatting crime by sending the DA additional attorneys. On Tuesday‚ the governor announced that he would send 120 California Highway Patrol officers to Oakland and East Bay "to crack down" on the "alarming and unacceptable" crime wave‚ Blaze News previously reported. State officers will work with local law enforcement agencies to curb violent crime‚ auto theft‚ cargo theft‚ and retail theft. The additional units will also allow for "high-visibility traffic enforcement."In 2023‚ the city's violent crime increased by 21%‚ robberies by 38%‚ and vehicle thefts by 45%.Several businesses‚ including Denny's‚ In-N-Out‚ Black Bear Diner‚ Subway‚ and Starbucks have decided to close up shop due to the area's crime surge. Other large companies‚ including Clorox Company‚ Blue Shield of California‚ and Kaiser Permanente‚ that are opting to stay have beefed up their security to protect employees.Like Blaze News? Trump likely won the 2020 election after all

Trump likely won the 2020 election after all

According to the legacy news networks‚ social media platforms‚ various deep state actors‚ and other corrupt institutions‚ the 2020 election was the safest and most secure in history and anyone who questioned Joe Biden’s victory was a wacky “election denier.” That has been the dominant narrative for the past three years‚ which has produced a chilling effect and caused many to forgo conducting a deep dive concerning whether the 2020 election really was as safe and secure as we have been told it was. It is incumbent upon the 50 states to ensure that their voting systems are as safe and secure as possible. We still have time to make necessary changes. In reality‚ the 2020 election was most likely marred by widespread mail-in voting fraud. And even worse‚ the extensive mail-in voter fraud almost certainly tipped the election in favor of Joe Biden. In other words‚ had rampant mail-in voter fraud been prevented in the 2020 election‚ Donald Trump would have won the Electoral College and been re-elected to a second term. At this point‚ you may be wondering how I can be so sure that the 2020 election was tainted by mail-in voter fraud. The answer is simple: The voters have told us so. In late 2023‚ the Heartland Institute and Rasmussen Reports conducted a simple survey to gauge the degree of voter fraud in the 2020 election. We asked 1‚085 voters who participated in the 2020 election about their voting behaviors three years prior. To our surprise‚ the results showed that at least one in five mail-in voters admitted to committing ballot fraud in the 2020 election. Our findings caused quite a stir in the media‚ especially among those who suspected the 2020 election was not completely secure due to the dubious changes to voting rules state officials unconstitutionally imposed under the cover of COVID-19. Shortly after the poll was released‚ former President Trump called it “the most important poll released in the last 20 years” and “the biggest story of the year.” Eventually‚ we began to wonder if we could apply the poll results to publicly available election data to determine whether mail-in voter fraud impacted the outcome of the election. This was no easy task. After extensive analysis using the raw survey data provided by Rasmussen coupled with state-based and other reputable sources documenting mail-in vote totals‚ we concluded that mail-in voter fraud almost certainly changed the 2020 election outcome in all six of the crucial swing states. This is all laid out in great detail in the Heartland Institute’s latest policy study‚ aptly titled “Who Really Won the 2020 Election?” (Spoiler alert: not Joe Biden.) Here are just a few of the main takeaways: Upon further analysis of the Rasmussen survey data‚ we found that more than one in four mail-in voters (28.2%‚ to be precise) admitted to committing at least one kind of election fraud in the 2020 election. Under multiple scenarios‚ with differing rates of mail-in voter fraud taken into account‚ our results indicate that Trump would have won the Electoral College in the 2020 election had fraudulent mail-in ballots not been counted. Even if the level of fraud detected in the Heartland/Rasmussen survey substantially overstated mail-in voter fraud by multiple orders of magnitude‚ Trump would likely still have won the 2020 election. According to the official 2020 election results‚ Biden defeated Trump in the Electoral College 306 to 232. The national vote tally was similarly lopsided‚ with Biden receiving approximately 81 million votes to Trump’s 74 million votes. In almost all the hypothetical scenarios we lay out‚ Trump would have won enough Electoral College votes to defeat Biden soundly. But the 2020 election‚ like most recent national elections‚ was ultimately decided in the swing states. In 2020‚ Biden won each of the six swing states by fewer than 20‚000 votes‚ a tiny margin in the context of the overall vote. But here’s the rub: When we extrapolated for mail-in voter fraud in the six crucial swing states‚ using state-specific mail-in voter data and accounting for a variety of fraud rates (from the 28% level all the way down to the 1% level)‚ the Electoral College vote changed considerably. In almost all the hypothetical scenarios we lay out‚ Trump would have won enough Electoral College votes to defeat Biden soundly. In other words‚ Biden’s Electoral College victory‚ although seemingly large‚ was predicated on razor-thin margins in all six of the swing states. We know for a fact that each of the six swing states changed its election rules in the months leading up to the 2020 election to allow for mass mail-in voting based on inaccurate state voter registration rolls. We also know that several of these states made it easy for mail-in voting fraud to be committed by eliminating common-sense guardrails like signature verification and permitting shady election practices to take place like ballot harvesting. So it stands to reason that these unprecedented last-minute changes to voting procedures likely resulted in a flood of fraudulent ballots being counted. It also stands to reason that widespread mail-in voter fraud in the 2020 election disproportionately benefitted Joe Biden‚ seeing that he received more than twice as many mail-in votes as Trump. When considering all these factors‚ it seems obvious that Biden’s 2020 victory was aided and abetted by rampant mail-in voter fraud. But as they say‚ what’s done is done. It does no good to cry over spilled milk or shady elections. With less than nine months before the 2024 presidential election‚ however‚ we must ensure that this does not happen again. It is incumbent upon the 50 states to ensure that their voting systems are as safe and secure as possible. We still have time to make necessary changes. Going forward‚ will enough states do the right thing? Or‚ like so many other things in today’s upside-down world‚ is the quaint American tradition of free and fair elections a vestige of the past?

Denver shelters reach capacity — start evicting 800 migrant families: 'Humanitarian and fiscal crises'

Migrant shelters in the sanctuary city of Denver‚ Colorado‚ have reached capacity and started kicking out families‚ Fox News Digital reported this week.According to the news outlet‚ approximately 800 migrant families that are currently residing in Denver's shelters will be forced to leave as new arrivals continue to pour into the city. On Monday‚ 140 of the families were ejected from the shelters‚ city officials reported. Over the next few weeks‚ the remaining families will be forced to find other accommodations. Newsweek reported that the forced evictions could impact more than 3‚000 individuals.Denver has begun enforcing stay limits since its shelters have reached capacity with roughly 3‚813 people. According to the city‚ it has supported 38‚380 migrants to the tune of $42 million‚ as of February 5. Due to the increased financial burden‚ the city estimates it could be forced to "cut as much as $180 million from its annual budget."Democratic Mayor Mike Johnston stated last week‚ "We have filled every single hotel room that we have available in the city and county of Denver.""Now we have the terrible decision that if we don't start exiting folks‚ we will have 250 folks that will arrive today or the day after who don't have anywhere to go at night‚" he added.Johnston's press secretary‚ Jordan Fuja‚ told Newsweek that Denver is "out of shelter space.""We are out of staff. And we are facing a budget deficit of up to $180 million to cover sheltering costs‚" Fuja said. "If the federal government does not succeed in passing common-sense support for cities‚ it will mean significant budget cuts for cities like Denver and significantly scaling back sheltering services for migrants.""Denver is facing humanitarian and fiscal crises with the influx of arrivals to our city and limited resources‚" Fuja added.Laura Swartz‚ a Denver Department of Finance spokesperson‚ noted that the city is already pulling funds out of its contingency reserves to help cover the costs of supporting the migrant crisis. Those funds are expected to run out around April. The city's hospitals are also feeling the weight. Fox News Digital reported that Denver Health had served 8‚000 illegal migrants‚ recording about 20‚000 visits last year. The migrants received services including emergency room treatments‚ primary care‚ dental care‚ and childbirth‚ the news outlet stated. As a result‚ the Denver Health system is facing a financial shortfall of $22 million.KUSA reported earlier this week that other Colorado cities are not stepping up to help Denver. Ryan Trujillo‚ deputy chief of staff for operations for the mayor of Colorado Springs‚ stated that his city "definitely do[es] not want to welcome this crisis to our community.""We recognize that Denver is in crisis mode‚ though we do not have the resources to house an influx of migrant population‚" Trujillo remarked.Meanwhile‚ residents in Lakewood are concerned that city officials have plans to convert their community into another sanctuary city.Karen Morgan‚ a Lakewood resident‚ told KDVR that officials have not used the word "sanctuary" but have used terms such as "good neighbor‚ welcoming‚ inclusive‚ supporting‚ sheltering."City officials pushed back on the rumors‚ stating‚ "Lakewood City Council is not considering designating Lakewood as a 'sanctuary city.'"The city's mayor‚ Wendi Strom‚ said‚ "I would like to make it very clear that City Council has never‚ in my time sitting on council‚ has never had a conversation around becoming a sanctuary city.""I have met with my city manager … and there was not a request for Lakewood to house migrants at all‚" Strom continued. "This has created a lot of frustration and anger in our community that is not necessary. We are not making these big‚ sweeping changes. And these would be changes that we would bring to the public if that was something that we were going to do. But that's not happening."Like Blaze News? Alabama thieves steal 200-foot radio tower without anyone noticing‚ knocking AM station off the air

A landscaper in Jasper‚ Alabama‚ was doing a property cleanup when the crew discovered that a 200-foot radio tower was missing.Brett Elmore‚ general manager of WJLX‚ said that every piece of equipment at the radio tower's site had been stolen and the wires cut out."This is going to get out eventually‚ so I might as well make it public before it does‚" Elmore wrote on Facebook. "I have heard of thieves in this area stealing anything‚ but this one takes the cake. This morning‚ my bush hog crew went down to a tower site we have ... when [they] arrived‚ he called and notified me that not only was my building vandalized‚ but my TWO HUNDRED FOOT TOWER WAS GONE!" the radio manager wrote."They stole every piece of equipment out of the building‚ cut the guy wires to the tower and SOMEHOW managed to down a 200' tower and take it from the property‚" Elmore added. The radio tower is about 70 years old‚ and its absence has completely knocked the AM radio station off the airwaves. In addition to that‚ the local FM radio station has been pulled down also. The FCC even denied Elmore's request to make an exception to its rule that says FM translators are prohibited from operating if the AM primary station is off the air as well."Even given the unfortunate circumstances you describe. W268BM must cease operation while WJLX remains off the air‚" a response from the FCC read‚ according to CNN.The radio station has since switched to online-only since it cannot afford the costs to restore the 1240 AM frequency."We shut down our transmitter and our programming will be streamed via internet and our apps only until we can restore our 1240 AM frequency‚" the station's website read."We did not have insurance on this facility. We have been given estimates of $60‚000+ to build back and get our station on the air."The station has started a GoFundMe campaign‚ hoping to raise the $60‚000 required for new equipment. The station manager told reporters that it is a "federal offense" to tamper with a broadcast facility and that he will be "satisfied" when the thieves are caught."We will build back bigger and stronger — and will be back on the air soon!!"Like Blaze News? New roguelike deckbuilder is suddenly one of Steam’s most played games

You take Slay The Spire’s robust‚ imaginative deckbuilding systems‚ Dead Cells' often brutal roguelike difficulty curve‚ and‚ erm‚ poker‚ and you get what seems on paper to be an extremely unusual twist on traditional card games. But somehow‚ it works - and works exceptionally well. Despite a delightful deluge of games at Steam Next Fest‚ one perhaps unlikely candidate has managed to play its way into the most popular list. We’ve seen horrors‚ RPGs‚ FPS games‚ and survival sims‚ but a variation on poker where four of a kind is a lousy hand and you can draw three different jokers is a new one on us. Nevertheless‚ if you want to try what is suddenly one of Steam’s most popular games‚ it’s available right this second.
