Group Of Republican Senators Seek To Block Democrat Legislation And Nominations Following Trump Verdict

A group of eight Republican senators vowed to block Democrat initiatives and nominations following the Trump guilty verdict. The group includes: Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) “Strongly worded statements are not enough. Those who turned our judicial system into a political cudgel must be held accountable. We are no longer cooperating with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations, and we invite all concerned Senators to join our stand,” Mike Lee said. Nearly every Republican member of Congress has criticized the verdict, and Trump’s allies have been livid — and plotting retaliation. It also comes as Trump’s backers already have been urging Republicans to delay this year’s government funding fight to 2025. “Only 8 signatures? And moreover, this is something Johnson should sign onto because he is the one with the real power,” The Blaze Senior Editor Daniel Horowitz commented. Only 8 signatures? The move could further bring legislative activity in the upper chamber to a slog. Specifically, the GOP lawmakers said they would oppose any increases to non-security related funding, Biden judicial and political nominations and “expedited consideration and passage” of Democratic legislation. “We are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart,” the senators wrote. Signatories of the letter include Lee and fellow Republicans J.D. Vance (Ohio), Tommy Tuberville (Ala.), Eric Schmitt (Mo.), Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), Rick Scott (Fla.), Roger Marshall (Kan.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.). Both Vance and Rubio are thought to be on Trump’s running mate short-list.
