Trump Prosecutor Jack Smith Resigns From DOJ

U.S. Special Counsel and Trump prosecutor Jack Smith resigned from the Department of Justice on Friday, according to Politico. Smith’s resignation comes as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House at the end of January, leading Smith to drop both of the criminal cases after they hit significant roadblocks from Trump-appointed judges. Most significant was the Supreme Court ruling in Trump’s favor against Smith, granting former presidents significant immunity from prosecution for official acts, according to Politico. Despite dropping the cases, Smith defended the charges on their merits, only saying that Trump’s re-election made them “untenable” due to DOJ policy against prosecuting sitting presidents, per Reuters. Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November 2022 to lead the DOJ’s investigations into Trump allegedly attempting to overturn the 2020 election and mishandling classified documents. Trump denied all wrongdoing, calling the prosecutions politically motivated retribution from the Biden administration, and raised millions in campaign contributions off the back of the cases against him. Many of Trump’s supporters saw the prosecutions from Smith and others as clear attempts from the political establishment to silence Trump with the law, a powerful narrative Trump exploited until election day. JOIN THE MOVEMENT IN ’25 WITH 25% OFF DAILYWIRE+ ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS WITH CODE DW25 Smith was on a short timetable, with many experts concurring that if Trump won the election before Smith’s cases could come to a conclusion, the prosecutions would be shut down, with Smith’s first public appearance since his appointment in November 2022 occurring in August of 2023. “The attack on our nation’s Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy. As described in the indictment, it was fueled by lies – lies by the defendant, targeted at obstructing the bedrock function of the U.S. government,” Smith accused in a press conference in August of 2023, with Trump being indicted shortly after. This left a little over a year for Smith to overcome the delays Trump’s legal team was putting on the cases, with both cases locked in legal gridlock, with Trump-appointed Justice Aileen Cannon flat-out dismissing the classified documents case, and going as far as temporarily blocking the public release of Smith’s January 6 report for weeks. Smith’s resignation marks the end of Trump’s prosecutorial woes federally, with no former president ever being prosecuted prior to Smith’s appointment.

GRANDPA PARKER & the 'HAIRY MAN'

"His father suddenly started to whistle in a long sustained tone. They sat quietly on the boulder for a few minutes, until his father once again let out a long whistle."A reader, John Parker, submitted the following narrative for publication:"I've been reading so many theories about Bigfoot, to me, it's somewhat comical. I believe that certain people are allowed to witness these creatures, in particular those people who have traditionally lived among them. I'm not sure what other people are seeing. My family has lived in Jackson County, NC for as long as anyone can remember - We are Cherokee. There are stories of 'Stone Man' or hairy savages seen by our people historically throughout the Qualla Boundary. I have a story told to me by my Grandfather when I was a boy.Grandpa Parker talked about the large garden and cornfields his parents maintained. They would grow heirloom bean and tomato varieties that came from hundreds of years in Cherokee culture. They kept a few field animals, but at that time, they didn't raise livestock. After a while, his parents decided that they would try raising chickens. He helped his father build a large chicken house and another small barn that would be used as a workshop. Everything went well, and after a few years, their flock of egg-laying hens was prospering. His father was also a very good handyman and fixed equipment for other farmers in the area. One day, just before the harvest season, Grandpa Parker and his father went hunting in the woods west of the farm. Their main quarry was squirrel that day. As they reached their regular spot along a ridge thick with hickory trees, his father looked worried. They rarely talked or made any noise while in the woods, but his father suddenly started to whistle in a long sustained tone. They sat quietly on the boulder for a few minutes, until his father once again let out a long whistle."We need to move" his father abruptly said. They got up and started to briskly walk on the trail towards the farm. When they reached the end of the woods, they heard a loud whistle coming from the direction where they came. They cut through the cornfield and quickly reached the workshop. Grandpa Parker was becoming worried. His father didn't say anything, just directing him to stay with him.His mother was in the garden working when his father shouted out to her to go to the house. They all met at the door by the kitchen and went inside. He and his father sat at the table while his mother cooked coffee. "Why did we leave the woods?"His father looked at him and asked if he had ever heard anyone talk about 'the Hairy Man?" Grandpa Parker told him that he had not. He was scared now.My Grandfather said that the Hairy Man was a tall hairy human-like creature that would migrate to different locations along the mountains following food sources. When they were in the woods, he noticed that there were no birds or other natural sounds as they approached the ridge. He said that he noticed something large in the hollow, much larger than a black bear and walking like a man. He whistled hoping it would move on, but he didn't notice it move or make any sound. From his experience, that was an indication that it was time to leave because the Bear Man was staying put. The return whistle they heard was a warning to stay out of the woods. When my great-grandfather was younger, a woman and her young boy went missing in a woodland in nearby Swain County, NC. People had seen a Hairy Man in the area and suspected that it was responsible for the disappearance. There had been other disappearances previous to that. No remains were ever found. The next day, his father decided to start harvesting corn. This year, a large patch of cornfield nearest to the woods was left unharvested. His mother also left several baskets of potatoes at the edge of the woods that winter. They didn't want any problems from the Hairy Man, especially since he was known to raid chicken houses. One evening, while he and his father were working in the shop, they heard a long whistle coming from the woods. His father smiled and said "don't mind that - Hairy Man is saying 'thank you.'"The next spring, they once again went into the woods to hunt. The Hairy Man had moved on." John Parker**********RISSA MILLER - LEGEND OF 'HELL HOUSE' - LON STRICKLER - Live Chat - Q&A - (CREEPY MARYLAND HISTORY)PHANTOMS & MONSTERS VIDEO LIBRARYPOLL: WHAT DO YOU THINK? A Deep Sleep Clears the Mind at Night Like a Dishwasher Cleaning–But Beware of Sleeping Pills

A good night’s sleep clears your mind, suggests new research, like turning on a dishwasher before you go to bed and waking up with a clean brain. The international team of scientists describes the process as washing away waste that builds up in the brain during waking hours. Their findings also offer insights into how […] The post A Deep Sleep Clears the Mind at Night Like a Dishwasher Cleaning–But Beware of Sleeping Pills appeared first on Good News Network.

Eyes everywhere: The AI surveillance state looms

Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence have produced extraordinary innovation, but they also raise significant concerns. Powerful AI systems may already be shaping our culture, identities, and reality. As technology continues to advance, we risk losing control over how these systems influence us. We must urgently consider AI’s growing role in manipulating society and recognize that we may already be vulnerable. At a recent event at Princeton University, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt warned that society is unprepared for the profound changes AI will bring. Discussing his recent book, “Genesis: Artificial Intelligence, Hope, and the Human Spirit,” Schmidt said AI could reshape how individuals form their identities, threatening culture, autonomy, and democracy. He emphasized that “most people are not ready” for AI’s widespread impact and noted that governments and societal systems lack preparation for these challenges. In countries already compromising privacy, AI’s proliferation could usher in an omnipotent state where freedoms become severely restricted.Schmidt wasn’t just talking about potential military applications; he was talking about individuals’ incorporation of AI into their daily lives. He suggested that future generations could be influenced by AI systems acting as their closest companions.“What if your best friend isn’t human?” Schmidt asked, highlighting how AI-driven entities could replace human relationships, especially for children. He warned that this interaction wouldn’t be passive but could actively shape a child’s worldview — potentially with a cultural or political bias. If these AI entities become embedded in daily life as educational tools, digital companions, or social media curators, they could wield unprecedented power to shape individual identity. This idea echoes remarks made by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in 2023, when he speculated about the potential for AI systems to control or manipulate content on platforms like Twitter (now X).“How would we know if, like, on Twitter we were mostly having LLMs direct the … whatever’s flowing through that hive mind?” Altman asked, suggesting it might be impossible for users to detect whether the content they see — whether trending topics or newsfeed items — was curated by an AI system with an agenda. He called this a “real danger,” underscoring AI’s capacity to subtly — and without detection — manipulate public discourse, choosing which stories and events gain attention and which remain buried.Reshaping thought, amplifying outrageThe influence of AI is not limited to identity alone; it can also extend to the shaping of political and cultural landscapes. In its 2019 edition of the Global Risks Report, the World Economic Forum emphasizes how mass data collection, advanced algorithms, and AI pose serious risks to individual autonomy. A section of the report warns how AI and algorithms can be used effectively to monitor and shape our behaviors, often without our knowledge or consent. The report highlights that AI has the potential to create “new forms of conformity and micro-targeted persuasion,” pushing individuals toward specific political or cultural ideologies. As AI becomes more integrated into our daily lives, it could make individuals more susceptible to radicalization. Algorithms can identify emotionally vulnerable people, feeding them content tailored to manipulate their emotions and sway their opinions, potentially fueling division and extremism. We have already seen the devastating impact of similar tactics in the realm of social media. In many cases, these platforms use AI to curate content that amplifies outrage, stoking polarization and undermining democratic processes. The potential for AI to further this trend — whether in influencing elections, radicalizing individuals, or suppressing dissent — represents a grave threat to the social fabric of modern democratic societies. In more authoritarian settings, governments could use AI to tighten control by monitoring citizens’ every move. By tracking, analyzing, and predicting human actions, AI fosters an environment ripe for totalitarian regimes to grow.In countries already compromising privacy, AI’s proliferation could usher in an omnipotent surveillance state where freedoms become severely restricted.Navigating the AI frontierAs AI continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, we must remain vigilant. Society needs to address the growing potential for AI to influence culture, identity, and politics, ensuring that these technologies are not used for manipulation or control. Governments, tech companies, and civil society must work together to create strong ethical frameworks for AI development and deployment that are devoid of political agendas and instead embrace individual liberty and autonomy. The challenges are complex, but the stakes are high. Schmidt, Altman, and others in the tech industry have raised alarms, and it is crucial that we heed their warnings before AI crosses an irreversible line. We need to establish global norms that safeguard privacy and autonomy, promoting transparency in how AI systems are used and ensuring that individuals retain agency over their own lives and beliefs.
