Attorneys for the 29-year-old man accused of killing four University of Idaho students in 2022 have asked for his trial to be held away from the county where the murders occurred. Attorney Anne Taylor filed a two-page petition this week arguing that a “fair and impartial jury cannot be found” in Latah County‚ Idaho‚ where the murders of Ethan Chapin‚ 20; Kaylee Goncalves‚ 21; Xana Kernodle‚ 20; and Madison Mogen‚ 21‚ took place on November 13‚ 2022. For more than a year‚ Taylor argued‚ residents of the area have been subjected to regular news coverage about the murders. “A fair and impartial jury cannot be found in Latah County owing to the extensive‚ inflammatory pretrial publicity‚ allegations made about [the suspect] to the public by media that will be inadmissible at his trial‚ the small size of the community‚ the salacious nature of the alleged crimes‚ and the severity of the charges [the suspect] faces‚” Taylor wrote. “Enlarging the jury pool will not do anything to overcome that pervasive prejudicial publicity because Latah County does not have a large enough population center to avoid the bias in the community. Further‚ the size of the community and the interconnectedness of its citizenry is problematic and will prevent a fair and impartial pool of potential jurors.” Taylor requested a hearing be held to discuss a potential change in venue by the end of April 2024. Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said during a pretrial hearing on Friday that a change of venue wouldn’t help the defendant. “It’s not Moscow. It’s not Latah County. It’s everywhere. So‚ I don’t think that a change of venue is going to solve any of these problems‚” Thompson said‚ according to ABC News. “I have people‚ friends in this community who have traveled to Mexico. And they say‚ ‘You’re from Moscow?’ And immediately‚ they want to talk about this case.” The suspect‚ who is not being named by The Daily Wire due to a policy on accused mass killers‚ received a win last month in court when District Court Judge John Judge ordered prosecutors to turn over some of the genetic genealogy evidence used to link the man to the crimes. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Prosecutors have argued that they didn’t need to turn over detailed information about how genetic genealogy was used to link the suspect to the crimes since a DNA sample provided by the suspect directly matched DNA found on a knife sheath found at the crime scene. The genetic genealogy wouldn’t be used at trial‚ prosecutors argued. Once police had their suspect‚ they tracked him to his parents’ house in Pennsylvania and collected garbage from the trash cans outside. They obtained DNA that partially matched the DNA collected from the knife sheath‚ indicating they had the DNA of the suspect’s father. Collecting DNA from the suspect later directly linked him to the sheath. The sheath was found on a bed next to Goncalves and Mogen’s bodies‚ partially under one of them. The type of knife the sheath held would have been consistent with the knife used to murder the four victims.

United States Capitol Police (USCP) said Thursday that they will not charge anyone in the case of a Democratic staffer allegedly filming himself having gay sex in the Hart Senate Office Building. Explicit leaked video obtained by The Daily Caller in December appears to show two men filming a pornographic video inside the Senate Judiciary Room. “USCP says they will not charge anyone in the sex video incident in the Senate hearing room‚” reporter Jake Sherman said Thursday‚ captioning a screenshot of a statement from USCP. The statement noted that the staffer‚ who has since resigned‚ “exercised his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent and refused to talk” to authorities. Additionally‚ USCP did not close the door on revamping the investigation if new evidence emerges. “For now‚ we are closing the investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding a sex video that was recorded inside the Hart Senate Office Building on the morning of Wednesday‚ December 13‚” the statement said. “After consulting with federal and local prosecutors‚ as well as doing a comprehensive investigation and review of possible charges‚ it was determined that — despite a likely violation of Congressional policy — there is currently no evidence that a crime was committed‚” USCP continued. Ben Cardin (MD). The majority of voters support state laws banning sex change surgeries on children and trust parents more than teachers on issues of gender and sexuality‚ according to a poll exclusively shared with The Daily Wire.  The poll‚ conducted by CRC Research for the 85 Fund‚ found that 67% of voters supported laws that prohibit minors from being put on cross-sex hormones and undergoing sex change surgeries. The poll surveyed 1‚600 registered voters across the country from January 3 to 7 and was composed of 30% Republicans‚ 34% independents‚ and 35% Democrats.  Every demographic surveyed from Republican (73%) to independent (71%) to Democrat (61%) expressed some support for state laws shielding children from transgender procedures. Over 20 states have passed laws protecting kids from transgender procedures‚ with courts upholding some of the laws and blocking others.  The survey also found that voters overwhelmingly opposed the creation of independent health centers in schools that promote cross-sex hormone therapy and other transgender procedures.  “This poll confirms that gender ideology is a unifying issue across party lines and a vast majority of Americans support parental rights and restricting irreversible medical transition interventions for minors. Americans also oppose our government pushing community school health clinics that will further threaten parental rights‚” January Littlejohn‚ a parental advocate with Do No Harm‚ a group that seeks to end the politicization of medicine‚ told The Daily Wire in response to the poll’s findings.  Eighty-one percent of those surveyed expressed support for parents to be informed about discussions of gender dysphoria and related topics‚ while 10% disagreed with the sentiment.  Another question asked about a case in Michigan where school officials are alleged to have treated an 11-year-old girl as a boy without parental knowledge or consent. These numbers are consistent with previous polls conducted by PDE‚ the Becket Fund‚ and others — which is why it’s absolutely mind-boggling that education officials seem to consider it their sacred duty to spend finite taxpayer resources encouraging students to keep secrets from their loved ones‚ undermining the parent-child relationship in the process‚” Parents Defending Education President Nicole Neily said.  The poll also contained bad news for President Joe Biden‚ with just 41% approving of his performance and 56% disapproving. Nearly two-thirds of those polled also said the country was moving in the wrong direction‚ while 32% said it was going in the right direction.
