Remember When: Fan Saves The Life Of NHL Staff Member Through One-In-A-Million Interaction

Nadia Popovici was not expecting to save anyone’s life when she attended a hockey game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Seattle Kraken in 2022. However, when the NHL fan spotted a suspicious-looking mole on the back of a staff member’s neck, she knew she needed to speak up. Thinking fast, she typed a message on her phone and held it up so that Brian Hamilton, the assistant equipment manager for the Canucks, could see it. Luckily, her words got his attention. “The mole on the back of your neck is possibly cancerous,” the woman had written, according to The Guardian. “Please go see a doctor!” Thankfully, Brian decided to follow the NHL fan’s advice about his mole. He consulted a doctor and had the mark removed. When the tests came back, he found out that the mole was cancerous after all! However, since he took care of it early enough, he’d be just fine. Screengrab from YouTube You might be wondering how Nadia Popovici was able to identify the malignant growth. As this NHL fan explained to the Seattle Times, she’d done some volunteer work at hospitals. There, she’d seen plenty of cancerous moles. As soon as she caught sight of the back of Brian’s neck, she knew something wasn’t right. This NHL staff member really wanted to tell Nadia how grateful he was to her for pointing out his mole, but he had no idea how to find her. So, he took to X (then Twitter) to get the internet’s help. #HockeyTwitter, we need your help! Please RT to spread the word and help us connect Red with the woman he considers his hero. pic.twitter.com/HlZybgOnjf— Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) January 1, 2022 It didn’t take long for Brian’s message to get around to Nadia, The Guardian tells us. At the next Canucks vs Kraken game, the assistant equipment manager actually got to meet the young woman who had saved his life. Not only did he thank her, but so did the two sports teams! Since she was headed for medical school, they announced that she would be receiving a $10,000 scholarship. How incredible is that? Here’s one more amazing fact about the young woman who saved the life of a Canucks staff member. She was actually a Kraken fan! You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. DEI Jew Hatred When They’re Not Demonizing White Europeans

DEI policies justify and encourage antisemitism. The wokes are pro-radical Islam and spout the doctrines of terrorist propaganda from BDS to genocide by Jews. At a recent diversity, equity, and justice conference of prestigious woke private schools, Jew-hatred was on the agenda. This is all very un-American. Imagine a world in which a vaccine is a cream you rub onto your skin instead of a needle a health sector worker pushes into one of your muscles. Send it in here! Help! My Cat Loves Sitting on My Laptop! “ Why does my cat always sit on my laptop the second I open it? She could be asleep across the room but she hears it open, and she will wake up to lay on the keys. I feel bad moving her but I’d get no work done if I just let her win. What should I do? ” – Gia (Sunny’s Mom) Dear Gia, Sunny’s love for your laptop seems to be a mix of comfort, curiosity and learned behavior. Cats naturally seek warmth, and the laptop offers a cozy heated spot that Sunny might find irresistible. It is very likely that the sound of the laptop opening has become a cue or signal for her. Sunny learned that if she goes and sits on your laptop she will be able to grab your attention, immediately reinforcing her desire to do it. When you focus on the laptop, Sunny might see it as competition (for your attention) and to ensure she becomes your priority, she has found a way to take center stage. This behavior also reflects her territorial instincts, as she may be marking the laptop with her scent to claim it—and you—as hers. You can try to redirect her focus, by placing a warm, inviting bed or blanket near your workspace, or a cat bed like the Hepper Nest that sits nicely anywhere (especially on desks!)—just make sure you reward her when she uses it. Interactive toys can also keep her engaged while you work. And remember, Sunny is just expressing her affection and connection with you, and since she likely got what she wanted, you will need to think about what she gets. Operant conditioning based on positive reinforcement can help her develop new habits. And, you should not feel bad about moving her, as long as you do it gently it is perfectly ok. Just do not let this become a battle. If she insists, you might need to proceed to make it physically impossible for her to get there by closing a door. Over time, she will learn that jumping on the laptop does not get her what she wants. But, please do offer her more desirable alternatives. Best wishes! Dr. Paola Image Credit: Chan Deshpong, Shutterstock Help! My Cat is a Drama Queen! “Every time I walk in the front door, my cat Teega greets me with dramatic meows like I’ve been gone for years—even if I was only at the mailbox. Is she really that needy, or could something else be going on?” – Sara Hi Sara, Did you know that cats only meow to their mothers when they are kittens? As adults, they stop meowing at other cats and reserve this behavior exclusively for humans. Cats learn as kittens that meowing gets them attention, food, warmth, and other comforts from their mothers. When they grow up, they transfer this behavior to their humans to fulfill similar needs—attention, food, playtime, or cuddles. As dramatic as it might seem, Teega’s meowing when you come home is her way of greeting you with a “Welcome home!” and signaling that she’s ready to engage. Teega is likely hoping for the usual attention, cuddles, or maybe even food that you provide. If this was a case of separation anxiety you would notice other signs, so it is important to be familiar with them. If Teggas behavior has suddenly changed, this could also be an indication that something is going on. But if this meowing is only a greeting it can easily be addressed: you can train Teega to stop by ignoring her every time she does it. Simply walk by without reacting and only give her attention once she stops meowing. Be patient—this will take time and consistency. If there are other people in the household, they need to follow the same approach to ensure success. Consistency is key when trying to modify behavior. Sincerely, Dr. Paola Image Credit: Melissa Sue, Shutterstock Help! My Cat is Scratching All of My Furniture! “My cat has a habit of scratching at the carpet and furniture, even though I’ve provided him with scratching posts. Is he marking his territory, or does he just think my couch looks more fun than his scratching post?” – Boots’ Dad, Levi Hey Levi, you are not alone, cats are territorial and love to mark everything as theirs. You have done the right thing by providing a scratching post but now you will need to make your furniture undesirable too: aluminum foil, stick tape, and deterrent sprays are some options to try. Since you mention Boots also scratches the carpet, you will need to provide a horizontal scratching surface as well, the same thing you will need to make it undesirable for him by trying a few tricks. We really like the Hepper Hi Lo Scratcher because it provides 3 heights and orientations for scratching, changed with ease, depending on the mood a cat is in. Another clue point here is that Boots might have learned that by scratching certain stuff instead of others he gets attention, so these remote correction tricks should do their magic. The other part of the equation is to make the designated scratching areas more desirable: if Boots likes catnip, you can sprinkle some in there, and you should also be reinforcing Boots with a treat, cuddles, or the opportunity to play with a favorite toy every time he chooses the right places to scratch. It will take time, consistency, and repetition, but it is definitely possible. Shelter Dog Who Has ‘Feud’ With His Doggy Door Receives Over 100 Adoption Application

For a lot of dogs, doggy doors are fun and gives them the freedom to go in and out of their homes whenever they want. However, for one shelter dog at the Michigan Animal Rescue League, the doggy door is NOT fun – like AT ALL. The shelter dog from the Michigan Animal Rescue League, named Arnold, is totally bamboozled over his doggy door – and the internet loves him for it! Arnold is described as “goofy, affectionate, curious and bold” by content coordinator at Michigan Animal Rescue League Tommy Sanfilippo in an interview with The Dodo. He is an English Bulldog/Pit Bull Terrier Mix and was found as a stray, so he had a rough start in life. But that doesn’t stop him from having a zest for life! His profile reads, “Arnold is playful, friendly, and always ready for his next adventure, whether it’s a game of fetch, a long walk, or simply soaking up affection from his favorite humans.” His profile also reveals that his warm and outgoing personality is sure to steal hearts, which he’s already proven now that the internet is in love with him! @mi_animalrescueleague ♬ original sound – Michigan Animal Rescue League You see, Arnold was moved to a new kennel recently, and it had a clear plastic doggy door that lets him freely move in and out anytime he wants. However, Arnold is not like the other dogs – what other dogs see as the door of freedom, Arnolds sees as his nemesis.  Sanfilippo said, “Arnold was pretty stumped by his doggy door.” “We tried putting treats on the other side to entice him through, and even had a staff member squeeze through to show him that it’s okay, but he remained pretty wary of it,” he added. In a TikTok video posted by the animal shelter, a staff member reveals, “Arnold just moved into a new kennel.” The video then pans to Arnold, looking at the doggy door with a puzzled look, while the staff says, “He is not yet sure how to get through the dog door. He might need some pointers. Can anyone help my boy out?” Now, Arnold is no longer afraid of the doggy door. So, to him, the next course of action was to pick a fight with the door. In a follow up video, Arnold can be seen biting the plastic dog door with all his might and the staff saying, “you’re an interesting man, Arnold.” While we mourn the demise of the plastic dog door as Arnold continues to antagonize it, the Internet is falling head over heels for the doggy door destroyer! “Does Arnold know he’s a star?” one TikTok user wrote. “Way to overcome your fears, Arnold! We’re so proud of you,” another wrote. Another user wrote, “There is a very special family out there waiting for this small man and his enthusiastic views about life.” Sanfilippo reveals that Arnold’s “feud” with the doggy door has resulted in 120 adoption applications so far. “Obviously he can only go to one home, but it’s cool to see interest in our shelter that could lead to some of our other animals getting adopted as well,” Sanfilippo said. With the amount of applications for Arnold, we’re sure he’s going to meet his forever family soon, say goodbye to his shelter nemesis, and find a new enemy to fight with to fill all his doggy days!
