Def Leppard releases new song featuring Tom Morello

Def Leppard released a new song called "Just Like 73" which also has the Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello. As the title of the single suggests, their inspiration came from the early 70s music, but especially Glam Rock. Leppard is currently preparing for a North American tour alongside Journey. Besides Joe Elliott and Phil Collen, who were credited as the lyricists of the song alongside the composer Dave Bassett, the band has been the same since the early 90s. Also featuring Rick Allen, Rick Savage and Vivian Campbell. Hear the new Def Leppard song "Just Like 73", featuring Tom Morello: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUTI7Ck8VaQ In an official statement, the guitarist Tom Morello talked about the track, saying: “I played ‘Rock of Ages’ in my college cover band nearly 40 years ago,” he shared in a press release. The Rage Against the Machine guitarist takes the lead on the guitar solo, using his distinctive whammy bar to further enhance the vintage vibes of “Just Like ‘73,” Tom Morello said. Leppard's guitarist Phil Collen, who is one of the lyricists of the song, also talked about the track, saying: “When I saw David Bowie on TV between 1972 and 1973, everything I thought I knew about music went from black and white to vivid Technicolor. Just Like ‘73’ represents that awakening.” Next Def Leppard tour dates July 6 – Busch Stadium, St Louis, MO 10 – Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL 13 – Truist Park, Atlanta, GA 15 – Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL 18 – Comerica Park, Detroit, MI 20 – Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN 23 – Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA 25 – Hersheypark Stadium, Hershey, PA 27 – PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA 30 – Progressive Field, Cleveland, OH August 2 – Rogers Centre, Toronto, Canada 5 – Fenway Park, Boston, MA 7 – Citi Field, Queens, NY 9 – Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, FL 12 – Globe Life Field, Arlington, TX 14 – Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX 16 – Alamodome, San Antonio, TX 19 – Target Field, Minneapolis, MN 23 – Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ 25 – SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, CA 28 – Oracle Park, San Francisco, CA 30 – Petco Park, San Diego, CA September 4 – T-Mobile Park, Seattle, WA 6 – Spokane Arena, Spokane, WA 8 – Coors Field, Denver, CO 10 – USANA Amphitheatre, West Valley City, UT The post Def Leppard releases new song featuring Tom Morello appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Michael Anthony says he liked the first David Lee Roth solo album

The classic Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony recalled in an interview with Ultimate Guitar that when David Lee Roth released his first album "Eat 'Em and Smile", he felt like he was trying to put a band together to "kick" Van Halen's ass. Because he had put together some of the greatest players in the business: Gregg Bissonette (Drums), Steve Vai (Guitar) and Billy Sheehan (Bass). Anthony also said that although he doesn't recall if he heard the entire album at some point in his life, he said that it was a great one and that he like it. Michael Anthony says he liked the first David Lee Roth solo album "Yeah. I mean, I haven't heard it in a long time. And I actually don't even know if I've heard the whole album ever in its entirety. That's a great album. I mean, I'm friends with Billy (Sheehan). And Steve (Vai). Obviously, they're both great frickin' players. It was great." "At first, my thoughts were, 'Is Dave just trying to put together a band to try to kick our ass? To try to put together the best players that he could get?' Because obviously, between Greg (Bissonette) and Steve and Billy, shit right there, you got some great musicianship." He continued: "But I thought it was good. The playing was great on that album. Those guys are all great. And on top of that, it was just Dave being Dave," Michael Anthony said. Since the early 00s, Michael Anthony has been playing with the ex-Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar on his solo career and other projects, like the supergroup Chickenfoot. David Lee Roth is not touring but he keeps releasing songs. He was the vocalist of Van Halen from 1974 to 1985, returning in 1996 and from 2007 to 2020 when the band officially came to an end with Eddie Van Halen's passing at the age of 65. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmCU_QtSzWI&pp=ygUZZ29pbiBjcmF6eSBkYXZpZCBsZWUgcm90aA%3D%3DThe post Michael Anthony says he liked the first David Lee Roth solo album appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Geezer Butler recalls being shocked seeing Kiss for the first time

Back in 1975, Black Sabbath already was one of the most influential bands in the world and were touring all around the world, but especially in the United States, which was the big market, where you could sell more records. That year, they had a new band opening for them on selected dates and that group was Kiss. In an interview with Rock Cellar, Sabbath's bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler recalled being shocked when he saw Kiss for the first time. It wasn't for the way the looked or for the music, but for their stage production. Butler said that it was really hard to follow their act and that Sabbath made sure that Kiss was never their opening act again. Geezer Butler recalls being shocked seeing Kiss for the first time "Kiss opened a few shows for us in the mid ’70s. Kiss was the first band that ever used stage production. Up until Kiss came, bands like Black Sabbath used to just go on and plug in and play. Kisswas the first one to use pyro. You’ve never seen that. I mean, the shock of that. And they were supporting us, so they weren’t even headlining. I went out and watched them. There were all these flames coming out the stage and everything. It was like, “Oh, my God, what’s going on here?” "It was a completely new direction for people. People had to start thinking about stage production after Kiss. It was tough to follow them. We went on just as an ordinary band, no effects or anything, and everybody else still had their mouths wide open from seeing Kiss. We were like, 'What the hell just happened?'" He continued: "It was impossible to follow Kiss after the production. When I watched them play, I didn’t even listen to the music. I was just astounded by the stage production. We made sure that we never had Kiss supporting us again," Geezer Butler said. By 1975, Kiss had only three albums out: "Kiss" (1974), "Hotter Than Hell" (1974) and "Dressed To Kill" (1975). In the following years they would become one of the most influential and successful American bands of all time. And of course, they would no longer be the opening act of other bands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVxrXiFeeCI&pp=ygUOa2lzcyBlYXJseSA3MHM%3DThe post Geezer Butler recalls being shocked seeing Kiss for the first time appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Geezer Butler reveals which is one of his favorite Sabbath songs

The legendary Black Sabbath co-founder, main lyricist and bassist Geezer Butler is currently promoting his autobiography "Into The Void" and he revealed in an interview with Rock Cellar which is one of his favorite deep cuts from the band. The track chosen was "A National Acrobat". "I think maybe 'A National Acrobat' from the 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' album. The lyrics were a bit extreme, to say the least. I wrote the riff for the first part, and I loved the way Tony carried on from what I’d done. He took a totally different direction. I really love that song," Geezer Butler said. As the musician explained, the track was featured on their classic fifth studio album "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", released in 1973. Although it is one of the best songs from that album, it was overshadowed by tracks like "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and "Sabbra Cadabra". That album performed well on the charts, peaking at number 4 on the United Kingdom Albums chart and number 11 on the United States Billboard 200. Hear "A National Acrobat" and read the lyrics below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcLRrG0W9hE&pp=ygUSYSBuYXRpb25hbCBhY3JvYmF0 "I am the world that hides the universal secret of all time Destruction of the empty spaces is my one and only crime I've lived a thousand times I found out what it means to be believed The thoughts and images The unborn child who never was conceived When little worlds collide I'm trapped inside my embryonic cell And flashing memories Are cast into the never ending well The name that scorns the face The child that never sees the cause of man The deathly darkness that Belies the face of those who never ran You got believe it, I'm talking to you Well, I know it's hard for you to know the reason why And I know you'll understand when it's time to die Don't believe the life you have will be the only one You have to let your body sleep to let your soul live on I want you to listen, I'm trying to get through Love has given life to you and now it's your concern Unseen eye of inner life will make your soul return Still, I look but not to touch The seeds of life are sown Curtain of the future falls The secret stays unknown Just remember love is life And hate is living death Treat your life for what its worth And live for every breath Looking back I've lived and learned But now I'm wondering Here, I wait and only guess What this next life will bring"The post Geezer Butler reveals which is one of his favorite Sabbath songs appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The John Lennon song that David Bowie loved

The John Lennon song that David Bowie loved

David Bowie was born in 1947, seven years after The Beatles guitarist, songwriter and singer John Lennon. So he was just a teenager when the Fab Four started and changed the world completely in the early 60s. But Bowie was able to start his solo career in 1967, when he released his debut solo album. In the early 70s, when The Beatles had already dissolved, Bowie became a superstar with the release of many classic albums that were a big part of the Glam Rock movement in England. So he not only sold millions of albums worldwide during that era, but he also had the chance to meet many of his heroes. One of them was John Lennon and they became really good friends. Back in 1979, at the age of 32, Bowie was interviewed on the radio and revealed which were some of his favorite songs. One of the tracks chosen was from John Lennon's solo career. The John Lennon song that David Bowie loved The John Lennon track that Bowie chose in the radio interview (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage) was "Remember", from the self-titled debut album of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. “I think this is a really despondent track, he left his band and he was doing his first solo album and I found it rivetingly depressing. So I really enjoyed playing it to myself. Very good piano, I think it’s Billy Preston, actually. Growing Up and being angry that’s what this one was all about,” David Bowie said. That record was released in 1970, being co-produced by Lennon, Yoko Ono and Phil Spector. Although "Remember" is a fan favorite, it was overshadowed by bigger hits like "Mother", "Working Class Hero" and "Isolation". Besides Billy Preston, who was mentioned by Bowie, that record also had Ringo Starr on drums and Klaus Voorman on bass. It performed really well, peaking at number 8 on the UK Albums chart and number 6 on the US Billboard Top LPs chart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnRDBp3JPA&pp=ygUUcmVtZW1iZXIgam9obiBsZW5ub24%3D Bowie and Lennon worked together By the time Bowie gave this radio interview praising Lennon's track "Remember", they had already worked together. Lennon co-wrote the track "Fame" with Bowie and the guitarist Carlos Alomar. The Beatle also played the acoustic guitar and provided the backing vocals to the song. That track was featured on Bowie's 1975 album “Young Americans”.  In an interview back in 1995 with MTV (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage), Bowie recalled how he met John. “It’s really hard to remember when I actually met John. It must have been sort somewhere in middle 1974, my guess.” “We kind started knocking around with each other, and he had his eye, I thought at the time gave which I thought was one of the better Lennon quotes I’ve said a number of times. But when I asked him what he thought (about) what I was doing, ‘Glam Rock’, he said ‘Yes, great sir. But it’s just Rock and Roll with lipstick on’.” He continued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ypgq0qdgVZA&pp=ygURZmFtZSBkYXZpZCAgYm93aWU%3D “And I was impressed as I was virtually everything he said. He was probably one of the brightest, quickest, witted, earnestly socialist men I’ve ever met in my life. Socialist in true definition, not in a fabricated political sense. But a real humanist and a really spiteful sense of humor, which of course being English I adored. I just thought we’d be buddies forever and get on better and better and all that. So I know the Beatle that I always liked (laughs), everybody had their favorite Beatle.” “I never really realized that, well I always knew that, but I wouldn’t have declared it in the early 70’s because that would have been the most uncool to actually say that you actually like The Beatles in any way, shape or form. But they’ve made such a great impact. They gave the British the illusion that they meant something again. We love hearing that, oh boy,” David Bowie said.
