Unluckily Woke: Anti-Trump US Figure Skater Finishes 13th at Olympics

Amber Glenn, a United States figure skater in the Winter Olympics who proclaimed herself a “woke bitch,” finished 13th place in the short program.  Sports Illustrated reported, “With a score of 67.39 … Glenn finished in 13th place in Tuesday’s competition.”  SI added, “Her mistake cost her seven technical points from her score. It’ll be extremely difficult for her to medal on Thursday following the free skate.” The poor finish follows a gold-winning performance on Sunday, after which Glenn showed off her medal with teammate Alysa Liu in a a TikTok post that read: “They hate to see two woke bitches winning.”  The post continued, “If ‘Woke’ means people who use their platforms to advocate for marginalized communities in the country that they are actively representing …… Then yeah sure?” Glenn describes herself as a “pansexual” and “bisexual,” Breitbart reported. Glenn has repeatedly criticized President Donald Trump while at the Olympic games in Milan Cortina, the Huffington Post and other outlets reported. She previously said, “It’s been a hard time for the [LGBTQ+] community overall in this administration.” Another olympian, U.S. freestyle skier Hunter Hess, professed “mixed feelings” about representing the U.S., because of the Trump administration. This led to Trump calling her a “real loser.” The post Unluckily Woke: Anti-Trump US Figure Skater Finishes 13th at Olympics appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Macron Calls Online Free Speech Argument “Pure Bullshit”

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. European governments framing social media bans for minors as child protection are quiet about what those bans actually require: identity checks for everyone. Every adult who wants to use Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube in France, Spain, or Germany would need to verify their real-world identity to access the platform. Anonymity, one of the oldest protections for dissenting speech, goes with it. That’s the context Emmanuel Macron left out when he called free speech online “pure bullshit” in New Delhi on Wednesday. https://video.reclaimthenet.org/articles/macron-bshit.mp4 The French president was addressing companies and their American backers as European governments push social media restrictions, as well as curbs on “hate speech,” a move the Trump administration has criticized as censorship. Macron’s counterargument is based on algorithmic opacity. “Having no clue about how their algorithm is made, how it’s tested, trained, and where it will guide you, the democratic consequences of this bias could be huge,” he said. “Free speech is pure bullshit if nobody knows how you are guided to this so-called free speech, especially when it is guided from one hate speech to another.” Recommendation systems do shape what people see, and the companies running them don’t publish the details. But Macron isn’t actually proposing algorithmic transparency. He’s defending a regulatory agenda that mandates age verification, which means ID verification, which means governments and platforms knowing exactly who is speaking before they’re allowed to speak. Anonymous speech has a history worth defending. Whistleblowers, dissidents, journalists protecting sources, abuse survivors, political minorities in hostile regions: these are the people who depend on the ability to speak without attaching their name to it. Age verification systems don’t carve out exceptions for them. They require a real identity for everyone, or the system doesn’t work. The EU’s Digital Services Act goes further. Beyond the ID checks, it requires platforms to police content flagged as harmful under definitions that include “hate speech,” a category European regulators get to define, redefine, and apply at their discretion. The US has already imposed visa bans on a former European official and activists involved in enforcing these standards, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio calling the effort pushback against the global censorship-industrial complex. The chilling effect of social media digital ID checks is the point. When people know their real name is attached to their account and that “harmful” speech (defined by the government) can get that account deleted, they say less. They avoid the contentious, the political, the inconvenient. In unprecedented moves, France has previously arrested Telegram CEO Pavel Durov and has raided the offices of X. Macron is in New Delhi promoting a vision of regulated, multilingual AI as a third path between the US market model and China’s state-led approach. He frames European governance as the responsible alternative. What it looks like from the speech side is a system where governments decide who can speak anonymously (no one), what content platforms can host (whatever regulators don’t call harmful), and which companies can operate (those willing to build the ID infrastructure the bans require). Elon Musk's one-liner about Jesus takes social media by storm

The world's richest man shared a candid moment in his religious journey this week on social media, much to the surprise and excitement of many Christian commentators. On Tuesday afternoon, Elon Musk made a surprise admission under a post about "evangelizing" the multibillionaire.'I agree with the teachings of Jesus.'"Someone needs to evangelize Elon Musk," the original post said. "Who will lead him to Christ?"Musk's reply generated more than twice the engagement as the first post, climbing close to four million views by Wednesday morning.RELATED: Large mural in memory of Iryna Zarutska painted in downtown Las Vegas — and paid for by Elon Musk Photographer: Krisztian Bocsi/Bloomberg via Getty Images"I agree with the teachings of Jesus," Musk commented. This prompted responses from many Christian politicians and political commentators, many of whom encouraged him to take the next step in his journey. BlazeTV's "Fearless" host, Jason Whitlock, wrote: "Thanks for saying this. It's a start."Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire wrote, "Always a good thing to do! But if one of Jesus' teachings — and a teaching he repeats — is that he is God, what does that imply for our own lives and actions?"One prominent account backed up Knowles' point, adding, "This is the leap of faith that most people agreeing with Jesus's teaching won't take. It's a metaphysical commitment."Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) offered his encouragement to Musk: "He lives. He loves. He redeems.""We are all sons and daughters of the King," Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) added. "Agreement is a short step away from belief, and then faith will follow," Frontier magazine contributor and poet Joseph Massey said. The original poster, the Art of Purpose, left a comment under Musk's reply that summed up many of the responses well: "Brother you are so close. I'm rooting for you."While Musk's most recent comment made waves on social media, this is not the first time Musk has suggested that he at least accepts the teachings of Christ. Musk told Jordan Peterson in a July 2024 interview that he was a "cultural Christian" and that "the teachings of Jesus are good and wise," according to UnHerd. Like Blaze News? Tricia McLaughlin leaving DHS after Good, Pretti shootings, prompting cheers from smug Democrats

Tricia McLaughlin, an unflappable 31-year-old defender of the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration, announced on Tuesday that she is stepping down as Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary. One DHS official told the New York Times that McLaughlin — a former top communications aide to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) and ABC News contributor — had made plans to leave the agency in December but, feeling duty-bound, stuck it out for several more months to lend her support amid backlash over the fatal shootings of anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement radicals Alex Pretti and Renee Good.'Your boos mean nothing.'McLaughlin told the Cincinnati Enquirer last month that she wanted to return to Cincinnati with her husband, Republican political strategist Benjamin Yoho, to start their family. Yoho and McLaughlin tied the knot in August. She noted further that with regard to running for office or getting involved in local politics, she "wouldn't rule anything out."In a statement on Tuesday, McLaughlin expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, and the American people, claiming that it has been an "honor and privilege to serve this great nation."RELATED: LA thug who hurled concrete chunks at federal agents learns the hard way that actions have consequences Tom Williams/CQ-Roll Call Inc. via Getty Image"I am immensely proud of the team we built and the historic accomplishments achieved by this Administration and the Department of Homeland Security," added McLaughlin.McLaughlin noted further that Lauren Bis, who has been working as deputy assistant secretary for media relations, will take over as assistant secretary for public affairs and that Katie Zacharia — a commentator on Fox News and Newsmax — will step into the role of both DHS spokeswoman and deputy assistant secretary.Noem said that McLaughlin "has served with exceptional dedication, tenacity, and professionalism" and "played an instrumental role in advancing our mission to secure the homeland and keep Americans safe." Noem added that she was "sad to see her leave."White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt similarly expressed sorrow to see McLaughlin leave and lauded the young woman for being "a strong and fearless voice on behalf of President Trump and the brave men and women of federal law enforcement."Republicans and others happy with the work the DHS has done in making good on Trump's promises to the American people thanked McLaughlin for her service. Democrats, however, attacked her.New Jersey Rep. Rob Menendez (D), for instance, wrote, "Hope you have time to reflect on all the harm & damage you caused, all the bs [sic] spin that came directly from you, & all the reputations you tarnished including the memories of dead Americans."Menendez — the son of disgraced former Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez (N.J.) and a champion of illegal aliens who has supported legislation that would repeal the Alien Enemies Act, limit immigration enforcement actions, and defund U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement — noted further that he hopes McLaughlin's work for the DHS "haunts" her for the remainder of her career.House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries branded McLaughlin "another MAGA extremist" and suggested she had been "forced out of DHS."McLaughlin didn't let such remarks get to her in the past.On Jan. 1, McLaughlin shared a "Rick and Morty" meme captioned, "Your boos mean nothing[.] I've seen what makes you cheer."A DHS official told the Times that the young woman demonized by Democrats — including Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Rep. Dan Goldman (N.Y.) — has, along with her family, been deluged with threats.Like Blaze News? Inside The Brutal Murder Of Theo Van Gogh, The Dutch Filmmaker Killed By A Radical Islamist

Wikimedia Commons Theo van Gogh, pictured in 1984. The great-grandnephew of painter Vincent van Gogh, Theo van Gogh made a name for himself in the Netherlands as a provocative filmmaker. Although Theo didn’t cut off an ear and then portray the injury in art, he did have a penchant for insulting people in the name of free speech. Unfortunately for Theo van Gogh, his actions would eventually lead to his untimely — and brutal — death at the age of just 47. On Nov. 2, 2004, a Moroccan Dutchman named Mohammed Bouyeri shot van Gogh twice before slitting his throat in Amsterdam. Horrified witnesses later said that van Gogh’s throat was “cut like a tire.” The provocateur’s voice was symbolically and violently silenced with the flash of an assassin’s knife. Before leaving the scene, the 26-year-old Bouyeri pinned a letter to van Gogh’s body with a knife. The letter said that Bouyeri’s gripes were actually with Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee turned Dutch politician. Hirsi Ali had famously worked alongside van Gogh on a short television film called Submission, which criticized the treatment of women in Islam. Since Hirsi Ali was under police protection at the time, Bouyeri couldn’t kill her. But sadly for van Gogh, he was still an open target. The Controversies Leading Up To Theo Van Gogh’s Shocking Murder Theo van Gogh, born on July 23, 1957, in The Hague in the Netherlands, had already made a name for himself as a provocateur by the time he decided to release the film Submission. He had publicly criticized Islam as well as Christianity and Judaism, and portrayed himself as a “village idiot” who was able to get away with saying things others could not. He believed that his status and his passionate defense of free speech would be enough to protect him from harm and danger, at one point even saying, “No one kills the village idiot.” But in September 2004, when van Gogh and Hirsi Ali released a 10-minute, made-for-TV film on women in Islam, van Gogh was wholly unprepared for the backlash that would come. The film, titled Submission, Part I, focused on women praying to Allah to free them from their horrible lives, which included physical and sexual abuse at the hands of men. Controversially, the film also featured verses of the Quran written on the bodies of naked women, in protest of the abuse they had suffered. According to van Gogh’s interpretation of the Quran, a truly Islamic marriage required women to be fully submissive to their husbands, giving the men the right to essentially enslave their wives for all intents and purposes. Wikimedia Commons Theo van Gogh, pictured in his later years. The film was also partly inspired by Hirsi Ali’s own life before she arrived in the Netherlands. She fled Somalia after realizing she wanted to escape an arranged marriage, and also left her Muslim faith behind. By the time she had written the script for the film, Hirsi Ali had become a member of the Dutch Parliament. Van Gogh, who had a lot to say about Islam, seemed like the obvious choice to direct the movie. As expected, Submission, Part I was not well received in the conservative Muslim community at the time of its release. Some other critics argued that the film fed into larger anti-Muslim sentiment that had emerged following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. When asked why he made the film, van Gogh said that he “intended to provoke discussion on the position of enslaved Muslim women.” He also insisted, “It’s directed at the fanatics, the fundamentalists.” The fundamentalists heard van Gogh loud and clear. The Aftermath Of Theo Van Gogh’s Sudden Death Unbeknownst to Theo van Gogh, his film had attracted the attention of Mohammed Bouyeri, a man who held both Dutch and Moroccan citizenship. Though Bouyeri had been born and raised in the Netherlands in a seemingly normal and “quiet” household, he started becoming involved in radical Islam after his mother died of cancer when he was 18 years old. The movie Submission sent Bouyeri into a rage. Though he was mostly angry with Hirsi Ali, who he viewed as a traitor, Hirsi Ali was under heavy police protection following death threats she received for the film and other public criticisms she made against Islam. Ultimately, the police protection made it difficult for Bouyeri to target her directly with violence. So he decided to target Theo van Gogh instead, since he had refused police protection, even though he had received death threats as well. Shortly after van Gogh’s brutal murder on Nov. 2, 2004, Bouyeri was arrested. He not only admitted to killing van Gogh, but also vowed to kill again if the police released him, claiming that the murder was him defending the name of Allah. By 2005, he had been sentenced to life in prison. Meanwhile, Hirsi Ali responded to her colleague’s sudden demise: “I am sad because Holland has lost its innocence. Theo’s naiveté wasn’t that [murder] couldn’t happen here, but that it couldn’t happen to him. He said: ‘I am the village idiot, they won’t hurt me.'” Hirsi Ali also lamented that van Gogh hadn’t wanted any police protection leading up to his death, recalling, “He often insisted on the need to preserve our freedom of speech. He said he would only report the threats to the police.” Both van Gogh’s admirers and critics were stunned by the loss, and it wouldn’t be long before his death changed the Netherlands forever. Wikimedia Commons A demonstration in Amsterdam following Theo van Gogh’s death in 2004. Though the Netherlands has a long history of liberalism — and still carries that reputation today — van Gogh’s murder brought to light a different kind of discussion that was happening in the country. Some politicians started talking about limiting immigration, rather than focusing on the long-held tolerance of different types of cultures. One politician claimed that Muslims, who made up just five percent of the Netherlands’ population in 2004, showed a higher percentage of criminal behavior when compared to other groups of people. All the while, some politicians began to receive more death threats than they had before. Sadly, some innocent Muslim men in the country also started to be viewed as suspects, even if they had never been charged with a crime. One teenage boy named Samir, who was brought up Muslim in the Netherlands but no longer attended any mosque, said: “We are hated now. Whatever we do will be wrong, everything we say will be wrong, everywhere we go will be wrong.” As the years went on, however, many prominent people in the country stopped talking about the assassination altogether, for fear of angering both right-wing and left-wing movements. Some were concerned about accidentally inciting more hatred against Muslims, while others worried that any criticism of van Gogh’s work would be seen as supporting his murderer. Journalist Theodor Holman, who was one of van Gogh’s closest friends, has strongly criticized the silence around the murder and the fears of causing offense in the country: “Tolerance has been transformed into cowardice.” Next, discover 11 things you didn’t know about Vincent van Gogh. Then, take a look back at the Charlie Hebdo attack that horrified France.
